Leafbare
The trees have become bare, and the days have grown short. The air is cold and crisp, and the sky is cloudy. It won't be long 'till the snow begins to fall now and prey has become scarce as they are tucked inside a nice warm den of their own. Predators and stray cats are also less likely as well as they try to brace the season themselves.

number of cats: fourteen [ eight toms | six mollies ]

kylo had made a graceful entrance, the complete opposite, it seemed, of quailstep, who quite literally fell into the camp. kylo, rather, had, for lack of better term, sauntered into the camp, declared that "he would be staying here for a bit," and picked a nest in the warrior's den. it was a bit disconcerting, actually, how nobody seemed to care much. he refused to change his name, something that struck slatestar as odd, though he shrugged it off, welcoming any new warrior. in other, clearer, easier-to-decipher news, claystream had had her kits. the three bundles of fur, now one moon old, tumbled 'round the camp, jumping over one another and pouncing on any unsuspecting tails ( though they, too, avoided kylo - what an odd tom ).

"i am the king of this rock," magpiekit declared now, wobbling atop a large, flat stone near the nursery, forcing his voice to be much deeper than usual. "warblerkit, you are my second in command! canarykit, you can be..." he racked his brain for a moment as to what his smallest sibling could be. "you can be my loyal, fierce warrior, leader of my battalion!" canarykit pouted briefly. "why can't i be second in command?" he huffed, his tiny ears pinned back. warblerkit cuffed him over the ear, chiding. "because there can only be one second in command, silly."

as the kits tumbled over one another in mock battles and pretend wars with invisible opponents, claystream purred contentedly, stretched out in the sunlight that peeked from between two clouds, melting some of the snow that clumped near the edge of the camp. the cats had mostly swept it aside, making it easier to maneuver between the dens. quailtuft had been up all morning, at least since the kits had awoken to play, and her paws were extended as she lounged on her tummy, purring with amusement as she watched the kits.

mothstep padded closer, her ringing voice washing over quailstep, who looked up from where she was trying to pin a blade of grass to meet the other molly's eyes. "do you mind going to patrol the wisteriaclan border? toadsplash and kylo have gone to patrol the other ones, but since they started late, they might not get to make it all the way 'round." mothstep explained the issue with a chuff of laughter, her eyes bright. "oh, yes, of course," quailtuft purred, leaping to her paws, her endless enthusiasm rather infectious. "i'll be back by midday!" she announced confidently, her plumed tail swishing as she bounded out of camp. mothstep's whiskers twitched with amusement - that molly had the energy of a kit, but she didn't have a dishonest bone in her body. mothstep, herself, called out to shrikepaw, and the apprentice came running, her eyes bright with the thought of another training session. they, too, departed, tails swishing.

slatestar, too, had departed on a hunting patrol, along with kestrelflight and redhawk. though they had plenty of prey, having been rather lucky with all of the snow on the ground, but he figured that it didn't hurt to be prepared. redhawk was rather grumpy at having to trudge through the snow, her height - or lack thereof - being rather irritating, in her opinion. she had to take two leaps for every one of slatestar and her brother's, and she let out a constant stream of grumbles, sure to scare away any prey. oh, well.

palesun bounded out of camp, having to leap over large snowdrifts in a rather feeble attempt to look for herbs. he was sure to find nothing, or close to it, what with all of the cold snow that layered the ground. nonetheless, he figured that he'd check, especially with kits being in the camp now. he wanted to make sure that, if any illness befell them, he would be prepared to care for the small cats.

toadsplash and kylo had left the camp, too, before quailtuft but not near early enough to patrol all of the borders. toadsplash attempted to make conversation, but kylo was rather closed off and tended to avoid speaking with the exuberant new father. toadsplash was content with just describing exactly how amazing his kits were, even if kylo wasn't responding. no matter - toadsplash could make conversation with a tree, if need be.

"I told you to be careful!" Stormfang huffed as he watched Emberwhisker as she hovered over the edge of the icy river. "I'll be fine." She mumbled as she stared into the water. Stormfang frowned a little and shook his head. "It's quite icy, the edges of the river have ice around them and ice landings. It is all too easy to slip or for the ice to break." Emberwhisker smirked as her paw slapped against the water and a fish came flying out. The fish were quite slow due to the cold, she was surprised she even got that one. "See no harm no-" Before she could speak much more the ice underneath her made a loud crack. The tortoiseshell warrior let out a startled yowl before she went under. Stormfang hissed at Ivypaw, who had a look of terror on his face, "Don't just stand there! Get help!" The terrified apprentice snapped out of his stupefied daze at the words. The brown-and-white tom bolted, spraying snow all around him as his paws flew over the snow-covered terrain. The last thing he heard was a loud splash as he assumed Stormfang had gone after Emberwhisker.

By the time Ivypaw got back to the scene, with Brightstream and Whiterose, who had been nearby with two other cats he hadn't glimpsed due to his urgency, Stormfang and Emberwhisker were out of the water. The brown-and-white apprentice raced to his mentor and asked, eyes wide with worry, "Are you all right?" The young tortoiseshell she-cat nodded, shaking water out of her fur, "Yes! But brrr, that water is cold!" She sneezed as Stormfang huffed beside her, "What did I tell you?" Not looking apologetic at all, Emberwhisker replied, "Sorry Stormfang." Whiterose asked, "And you Stormfang?" The gray tom shook his head, "I'm fine, nothing's wrong with me." Brightstream nodded and mewed, "All right, let's get back to camp." Turning to Whiterose, the deputy mewed, "If you would do the honors of giving Ivypaw the news, that would be great." The white she:cat nodded and indicated for Ivypaw to stay with her.

Ivypaw turned to Whiterose, confused, as the white she-cat called, "All right, Thea, Daisy, you guys can come out now." The apprentice's eyes widened with shock as he realized, "Mama! Sister!" The chocolate tabby she-cat that stepped out from the bushes nearby looked immensely relieved as she allowed the young tom to bury his nose into hers. She murmured, "My dear darling..." as Ivypaw sobbed in happiness at her side. The younger she-cat next to her had a relieved look about her as well as she waited patiently for her brother to turn his attention to her. Sometime after, the young tom turned his attention to Daisy; the tom asked, frowning, "Mama, Daisy, where's Lily?" The two she-cats exchanged sorrowful looks before Thea began, "Ivy..." The apprentice blinked, sensing the change come in his family, "Huh...?" Daisy meowed, tears in her light amber eyes, "Lily... She... Oh Ivy..." She let out a thin wail as Whiterose comforted the young she-cat; Thea finished her daughter's sentence heavily, "The river that almost took your friend away... took Lily. She drowned when the ice under her broke..." The family of three huddled beside the frozen river as all three cats mourned the loss of their loved one, with Whiterose sitting nearby in silence, not knowing how to comfort the cats. After what seemed like ages had passed, Ivypaw sniffed as he turned to the white warrior, "Whiterose, let's go to camp. My mama and sister need to be warm after spending so much out here in the cold." The white she-cat nodded and wordlessly started the trek back, indicating for the three cats to follow her.

Back at camp, Honeytuft huffed as he nosed some tansy toward Emberwhisker, "You should have listened to Stormfang. You could have drowned!" Emberwhisker only shrugged her shoulders as she lapped up the herbs, only to grimace as she complained, "Honeytuft, did you just poison me?" The SeaClan medicine cat let out a dramatic sigh as he replied, "No, Emberwhisker. That was tansy for your coughs. It should help ease them soon, and it's good to prevent greencough." Turning to Stormfang, the honey-colored tom dipped his head, "I'm sure if you hadn't been there to think quickly, she could have drowned." As the gray tom looked away in embarrassment at the praise, they were interrupted by Leafstar's yowl from the main chamber: "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey meet here, around the Meeting Ledge, for a Clan meeting!" Honeytuft nudged Brightstream and Stormfang out, meowing, "Go on, you two. Emberwhisker and I will be watching from this corner of the camp." As the SeaClan deputy and Stormfang left the medicine cat's den, Emberwhisker asked incredulously, "Wait what?"

Leafstar meowed, sweeping his leaf-green gaze across the camp, "We have two important pieces of information to share today. One: Cats are forbidden to go near the river unless for border patrols. Do not go onto the ice. Emberwhisker was almost lost due to falling into the river when she stepped onto thin ice today. Thanks to Stormfang' s quick thinking and Ivypaw's timely warning, she is safe, albeit in the medicine cat's den for some time for recovering from her exposure to the cold water. Two," the tom continued, glancing at where Thea and Daisy were sitting below, "I am happy to announce that Whiterose and Brightstream found Thea, Ivypaw's mother, and Daisy, his sister. Unfortunately," he added heavily, lowering his eyes in sorrow, "Lily, his other sister, is not here with us today, as she drowned in the very river that nearly took Emberwhisker from us today." Brightstream assured the assembled cats, "But SeaClan will honor Lily as one of our own. She will be safe in StarClan, and she will look over us from up there." Leafstar nodded at his deputy's words and meowed, "Yes. Now," turning to Thea and Daisy once more, we will hold a warrior ceremony for Thea, and an apprentice ceremony for Daisy."

Leafstar began, looking up into the sky, "I, Leafstar, leader of SeaClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this cat. She seeks to learn and understand the ways of your noble code and join us as a member, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn." He faced Thea and asked, "Do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?" The chocolate tabby she-cat shivered at the question, but nodded, "Yes." The brown tabby tom continued, "Then, by the power of StarClan I give you your warrior name. From this day forth you will be known as Dustflower. StarClan recognizes your willingness to learn and patience, and we welcome you as a full warrior of SeaClan." The Clan erupted into happy chants of "Dustflower!" as Leafstar leapt down to rest his muzzle on the new warrior, who licked his shoulder in return. Leafstar jumped up to the Meeting Ledge and continued, once the shouts died down, "Daisy, until you have earned your warrior name you will be known as Daisypaw." Turning to Brightstream, he mewed, "Brightstream, you have proved yourself as a loyal warrior and deputy of our Clan for the past moon. You will mentor Daisypaw. Please teach her everything you know," he added as the ginger-and-white she-cat went to touch noses with her. With that, the brown tabby leader jumped down from the ledge and came to Stormfang, who had a slight frown on his face. The gray warrior dipped his head to his leader as Leafstar asked, "Can you take Ivypaw while Emberwhisker is recovering?" After a few moments of uncomfortable silence Stormfang nodded, "Sure, Leafstar. I'll train him." "Thank you," the SeaClan leader replied, and he was gone.

Stormfang growled softly as he muttered to himself, "Daisypaw should have been given to me! I had more experience in Clan life than that Brightstream! Just because she's deputy-" he stopped abruptly as he saw Ivypaw came trotting over to him. Stormfang forced a neutral mask to come to his face before he mewed pleasantly, "Let's go to the Pine Grove, I'm going to teach you some tracking skills." The brown-and-white tom flinched under the solid gray tom's gaze, but he nodded and followed Stormfang toward the entrance of the forest.

A moon had passed, and Honeytuft had confirmed Emberwhisker had caught a cough, though it wasn't as serious as whitecough or greencough. He had made sure that the warrior get plenty of rest, which she resented greatly; Emberwhisker complained to a visiting Ivypaw, "I swear to StarClan, Ivypaw, Honeytuft is trying to kill me, not letting me go out of his den!" Her apprentice soothed her, "At least you will be fine once you rest! He's helping you, not killing you." He then sat down heavily, recounting miserably, "But I do wish you could mentor me again! All Stormfang does is make me work! You let me play with Ripplepaw once in a while!" The tortoiseshell's whiskers twitched with indignation as she huffed, "The nerve of him! Just because he's older than me, he thinks it's okay to boss around my apprentice!" Emberwhisker promised, resting her tailtip on the brown-and-white tom's head, "I'll have a mouthful to say to him when I'm back!" Stormfang's loud meow was enough to make Ivypaw jump to his paws fearfully, "Ivypaw!" Glancing back to his actual mentor, Ivypaw mumbled, "I'll come back soon!" and raced out to meet the gray tom.

Leafstar meowed, "Stormfang, I want you to take Ivypaw and Dustflower to the pine forest beyond our territory. There must be more prey out there, and if we can, we could further our territory." Stormfang narrowed his eyes in thought as he asked, "You mean the vast treeline beyond our grove?" Ivypaw added, "Us?" Leafstar nodded, "Stormfang is a calm, levelheaded warrior who was named for his fighting skills. If you are challenged he will hold his own." Turning to Dustflower, he added, "But sometimes, the softness of a mother cat is needed more than tooth and claw if there is a group of cats. Dustflower, I trust you to act as an emissary for our Clan." The chocolate tabby she-cat stared at the sandy brown tom in shock, lost for words. After some time she meowed softly, "I will do my best." Nodding, Leafstar meowed, turning to Ivypaw, "and perhaps with a young cat as yourself they will hesitate to attack without reason. And besides," the SeaClan leader added gently, as Ivypaw blinked at him, bewildered, "you are the fastest in our Clan. When there is trouble you can come running to tell us." Stormfang nodded, "I will go then, Leafstar. We will report back what we have found." Honeytuft appeared from the tunnel to the nursery, meowing, "Leafstar, Wh-" He heard the last words of Stormfang and he came over and mewed firmly, "Go with StarClan's blessing." The three cats dipped their heads at his words, then they were gone, hurrying into the path to the clifftop.

Honeytuft turned to Leafstar and meowed, "Whiterose is settling down well. Her kits are safe and sound in her belly. She still has a moon," the medicine cat added, as Leafstar's eyes shone in delight at the mention of his kits, "but be careful near her." The SeaClan leader gave a nod and ducked into the tunnel path to the nursery.

Whiterose asked from the dim recesses of the cavernous chamber, "Leafstar? Is that you?" The sandy brown tabby tom made his way to his mate's side in an instant. He purred as his tail gently swept over the pregnant she-cat's swollen belly. He meowed, "Who thought I'd be a father, Whiterose?" The white she-cat purred, replying, "These kits will be the future of our Clan, Leafstar. You and our legacy," she murmured, burying her nose into her mate's side.

LAVENDERPAW

The sky was leaden in heavy, bloated clouds; flurries of snowflakes streamed to the ground below, blanketing the earth in a broad expanse of white. Eight young felines struggled to get their foothold in the dense snow, still unused to the sensation of cold paws due to six moons spent in the warmth of their dens in the nursery. Lavenderpaw, in particular, suffered the bite of Leaf-bare more than the rest of her denmates as she trailed behind the rest. She recalled that her mother repeatedly advised her not to take the frigid season lightly, but she supposed she vastly underestimated just precisely how cold it could be.

"Don't worry, Lavenderpaw! The cold never killed anyone!" Her littermate called out from ahead of her. Lavenderpaw merely scoffed, biting back a remark about how Asterpaw was just as cold as everyone else given how she greedily pressed herself against Marigoldpaw's side, and the ginger tom didn't seem to have any issue being so close to her sister either much to Lavenderpaw's chagrin. "Hypothermia would beg to differ!" Sorrelpaw retorted as she slowed his trot to match Lavenderpaw's speed, he shot the molly a worried glance as he took in the sight of her occasional shivering. "You doing alright? I've never seen you like this."

"I'm fine," Lavenderpaw mewed coldly, catching Sorrelpaw flinch at her response. In any alternative scenario, she would have apologized, but she was getting slightly anxious - just how far was the training hollow now? "Trust me, I'll be alright, but thanks for checking in." She mewed, staring at the ground to let Sorrelpaw know she wasn't in the talking mood. Her ear flicked when she heard him shuffle away, catching Patchpaw murmur a 'good luck next time' towards his brother and managed to look at them just in time to see Sorrelpaw swat his tail across the other tom's ginger-splashed nose.

Mintstar spoke up from the head of the crowd, Rowanpelt at her side. "We're getting close everyone, sorry about the wait; the training hollow always seems farther during Leaf-bare." She mewed. Lavenderpaw's ears perked up in interest,thankful that they were finally getting close to their destination. It was the russet-furred deputy spoke up next, "We're going to ask everyone here, mentors and apprentices alike, to be careful. With all these rogues afoot, we have to be as safe as we possibly can." Rowanpelt said, a spike of worry shot down Lavenderpaw's neck at the mention of rogues. She remembered what her mother had taught her about them, that they were lawless, selfish cats who often scorned the Clans for their beliefs and held no respect for the warrior code. They sounded dangerous and Lavenderpaw hoped to have nothing to do with them, after all, what kind of cat living without some sort of code was a good one?

"Lavenderpaw? Are you feeling alright?" The smooth meow of Vervaincloud, her mentor, asked. The gray molly blinked owlishly, unaware that she looked as nervous as she felt until now before clearing her throat and staring at her mentor calmly. Lavenderpaw pretended not to notice the way Vervaincloud's body shook from time to time due to the exposure of the cold, it was clear that he was trying to prevent looking disadvantaged due to how thin his coat was compared to everyone else. "Yes. I'm fine if you are, sir." She replied, narrowing her eyes as Vervaincloud gave her an unconvinced look.

"Very well," He mewed airily. "Let's begin your training."

LARKCLAW

The large brown tabby's coat was dusted with snowflakes as he sat rigidly outside of PineClan's camp, a contemptuous frown on his maw. Larkclaw didn't want to be on guarding duty, what he wanted was to investigate more about these lurking rogues. He looked around for any other cats who were awake and willing to guard in his stead before noticing Asphodelface lazily chewing a thin bone underneath the Great Oak. Perfect, Larkclaw thought with a sly grin as he mewed loud enough for the seal point to hear him. Asphodelface's ears twitched at the noise, scrambling to his paws as he trotted over to Larkclaw.

"Let me guess, you're bored and want me to cover for you." He mewed sarcastically once he was at Larkclaw's side, rolling his eyes when he saw the tabby's big grin. "Precisely that, pal," Larkclaw replied, letting out a loud yawn as he heaved himself to his feet, shaking out his coat and chuckling when Asphodelface made a noise of surprise as the snow splashed his own cream-colored fur. "Welp, see ya. If anyone asks just say I'm making dirt or something along the lines." He said nonchalantly as he headed off.

"Don't get killed!"
"No promises!"

Once Asphodelface was out of view his casual grin quickly turned into a serious frown, relying on his nose as he followed the faint scent of rogue that seemed to be creeping closer in PineClan territory by the day. Larkclaw was quite suspicious, he was born a rogue cat, he knew how they operated, and he knew most of them wouldn't be caught dead anywhere near a Clan if they could help it. They were either here because they were desperate or were cocky enough to believe they could give an established group like a Clan a run for it's fresh-kill.

As he headed closer to the border where their scent was strongest, a new and familiar one took its place. Daisystorm? That made no sense, what would she be doing out this late? Larkclaw had seen the patrols go out tonight, he would've spotted the pretty molly's soft ginger fur anywhere. The rogues can wait. Larkclaw thought, heading towards the warrior's scent path instead. It wasn't like he was concerned for Daisystorm's safety or anything, no, the molly had a moon's worth of street smarts on her back and could handle herself almost as well as Larkclaw could.

The thought of catching his Clanmate in some sort of drama was enticing, is all. Nothing more, nothing less. At least that's what Larkclaw told himself. He managed to sight Daisystorm just ahead of him, staying quiet until she caught wind of his presence nearby, which didn't take too long as the molly whirled her head behind her and widened her eyes as she noticed him. "Larkclaw?" She stammered, turning to turn her whole body to face him as he padded closer to her. "The one and only." He replied.

"What're you doing out here? You're supposed to be on guard duty tonight," She spluttered, Larkclaw grew confused when he saw the split second of guilt her eye. "I'm pretty sure everyone knows I don't follow orders, and besides, I'm curious about what you're doing." grinned Larkclaw in spite of his confusion regarding the molly wandering out so late. Daisystorm faltered, chuckling nervously at herself before clearing her throat. "It's a nice night for a walk, isn't it?" She gulped, Larkclaw stared agape at the sudden change in subject.

"...Daisystorm, what's going on?" He asked hesitatingly, suspicions being planted in his mind. Was she apart of these rogue cats, simply biding her time and gathering information for them? Or was there something deeper going on with the molly. Daisystorm sighed in reluctance, casting a shameful glance at the ground. "I've been meeting someone, that's all I'm gonna say." She mewed glumly; Larkclaw surprised to feel envious that he wasn't the one she was sneaking around to meet. "Oh? For how long?" He asked, not surprised to see Daisystorm grow defensive as her ears flattened ever so slightly. "None of your business, that's how long!" She barked.

"Fine, fine, don't tell me!" Larkclaw snapped, though he knew Daisystorm didn't mean any harm. "I won't tell Mintstar if that's what you're worried about. I'm no snitch." He mewed, hoping that little reassurance was enough to calm her down. Daisystorm relaxed slightly before another sigh left her, "Good, good. That makes me feel a little better." she mumbled to herself. "You'll let me go then? I'm already running a little late." She mewed, casting a gaze at the moon high overhead which Larkclaw followed. He was hesitant as there so many questions to ask; who was she meeting? Did Firestream know? Was she happy with them?

"Go ahead." Larkclaw said dismissively, hardly paying attention as Daisystorm chirped a 'thank you!' before she bounded out of sight. He was silent for a moment, the sound of the wind lightly blowing through his coat was the only thing that disrupted the silence. The tom didn't know how to feel, this night certainly took a turn. But he supposed that's what he got when he wished for drama. Larkclaw shook his head before turning back towards the direction of camp, there was a chance he'd get to look for rogues again the next night anyway. He just wanted to get this night over with.

WEASELSTORM

Weaselstorm didn't like leaf-bare for many reasons. He disliked the uncomfortable, wet feeling of snow on his paw pads. Nor how every conceivable herb out there was brown and lifeless until newleaf started up again. Given all the dead herbs they had come across already, he and Shadeleaf counted themselves lucky that they were able to find the ones that they carried home now. The scraggly medicine cat stopped at the sound of Shadeleaf's trill coming from behind him and he turned to face her directly, waiting for her to speak.

"I'm going to see if there's anything else I can find over there," She stated, gesturing to a small cluster of bushes with her tail. Weaselstorm nodded his approval, Shadeleaf thanking him with a smile just before she padded away, "and don't wait up for me! I know how much you hate leaf-bare." she mewed. The brown tom rolled his eyes fondly, turning from the molly and towards the direction of PineClan by himself. He was confident in his apprentice's ability to take care of herself, she would be back safe and sound without a doubt in his mind.

But that still didn't stop his heart from skipping a beat when he heard her shout his name shortly after they split up. Weaselstorm tried to make sure he didn't look so perturbed as he quickly trotted towards her voice. If only to reassure Shadeleaf that she didn't manage to scare him. Placing his herbs on the ground beside him as he caught up, he was now able to speak up. "What's the matter? Did you find anything?" He inquired, a quizzical frown on his maw when she shook her head.

"No, but this something worth more than herbs anyway." She replied. Weaselstorm was about to ask what on earth she meant by that until the sound of an unmistakable kit mew came from the bushes just in front of them. "Is it safe, lady? Can we come out now?" They mewed impatiently, only needing a hum of approval from Shadeleaf until two young tabby kits pushed their way out of their hiding place. The one that had spoken up wore a sour expression, his companion had seemingly just woken up from a nap if his sleepy face was any clear indicator.

"Who're you supposed to be?" The sleepy one asked meekly towards Weaselstorm, Shadeleaf replying in his place. "That's Weaselstorm, he's a medicine cat along with me." She explained to the pair, the sour-faced kit stared at them for an uncomfortable amount of time before mewing something himself. "So, are you the medicine cat and he's the apprentice?" He asked, Weaselstorm letting out an indignant hiss at his presumption. "I'm the medicine cat, you scrap of fur!" He barked, the kitten was unperturbed by his response, but rather confused instead. "You are?! But you're apprenticed-size!" He exclaimed incredulously.

Shadeleaf quickly stepped in before Weaselstorm had a chance to give them a piece of his mind, understanding her mentor's temper was not one to be taken lightly. "Never mind that! Why don't you tell us about how you got here?" She suggested, nearly sighing in relief when the kit agreed. He sat back on his haunches, licking his white forepaw thoughtfully before he introduced himself. "I'm Tigerkit," He mewed, flicking his tail on the other kit's ear who was dozing off despite the brief, fiery moment between his friend and Weaselstorm earlier.

"And that's Moonkit, he's my brother," Tigerkit explained, Weaselstorm and Shadeleaf exchanged a glance upon hearing the other's powerful name. It may not have been the case for other Clans, but in their own, the moon was considered just as sacred as StarClan was. "Alright, and what Clan did you come from?" Weaselstorm asked; Tigerkit stuck his tongue out at him. A tiny, frustrated growl bubbled in the medicine cat's throat, this kit was more stubborn than Aspenheart had been when he was his age. "...He asked you a question, Tigerkit." Shadeleaf mewed, Tigerkit sighed, giving Weaselstorm the stink-eye before reluctantly answering his question. "We were from IvyClan, and then GorseClan, but they're both gone now."

A tinge of sympathy was felt in Weaselstorm's chest, but he made no comment on it. "Me, Moonkit, my momma Daisy and my sister Taffykit were trying to find another Clan - but a big bad cat took us away when we got here," Tigerkit said, his former stubborn mew breaking into the tiniest of whimpers as he recalled being separated from his family. Shadeleaf wrapped her feathery tail around him, understanding the feeling of losing her family just as well. Weaselstorm on the other paw narrowed his eyes suspiciously, could this have been the work of the rogues that were currently lurking near PineClan's borders? Given how vicious they could be, he wouldn't be surprised.

"He... he also told my momma something strange, right before he took us away." Tigerkit muttered, sniffling sadly and rubbing his paw across his nose. He looked up at Shadeleaf, eyes watering with unshed tears. "He told her he was trying to find 'Auntie's kits', and when momma kept telling him she didn't know what that was, he stole us away!" Tigerkit cried, whatever strong facade he built up now broke away as he sobbed into Shadeleaf's black fur. Shadeleaf rubbed her tail down the crying kit's back, staring at Weaselstorm in confusion over what 'Auntie's kits' could mean.

Auntie's sounded too familiar for Weaselstorm to sweep aside as a rogue's ramblings, and as he racked his mind to try and figure out what where he possibly could've heard it before; a sudden thought made him recognize just why it sounded so familiar:

Shadeleaf was quickly able to figure it out for herself too as she stared at Weaselstorm wide-eyed and anxious. It all made sense, how the rogues came shortly after the queen's death and how they chose to target a mother and her kits. He was convinced they managed to figure out the identity behind their Clan's antagonizers. Tigerkit had stopped crying by now, the brown-and-white tabby was now asleep, nestled in the warmth of Shadeleaf's fur.

heronswoop stared at the twin graves, snow almost covering the gemstones that glittered on top of them. one empty, one full. one blue, one white. he shouldn't have been so harsh to silverpool's accusation of aspenstep. but it wasn't right! a defiant voice rang from inside him, but he pushed it aside. the comforting scent of jasmine wreathed around him and he relaxed, only slightly. " it wasn't your fault. " his mother murmured, sitting beside him. she stared at the graves of dovestep and silverpool, sorrow in her eyes. thrushflight and whispersong soon came after, and sat with them in silence. his parents left after a while, but heronswoop and whispersong stayed. he would find the true killer, and he'd make them pay for killing his sisters. heronswoop turned to whispersong. " we need to find who this is before it's too late for either of us." whispersong merely nodded, and returned to staring at the grave.

solarclan's tradition:
when an apprentice becomes a warrior, they are presented with a gemstone that either correlates with their eye color, pelt color, or personality. for example, a fiery, energetic tom may receive a red jasper stone. kits are taught to anticipate the day when they receive a gemstone, and to keep it safely tucked away within their nests. the leader watches the training sessions and goes on hunting and border patrols frequently to determine what stone the new warrior shall receive. when a warrior dies, their gemstone is placed on top of their grave, to forever be a testament to them. it is said that their spirit is tethered to that gem, and if it's lost, then their spirit is lost. if an apprentice or kit dies, then the leader will choose a gem based on what might've been.

There is now a heavy blanket of snow covering the ground. It is cold, yet there is sun. It is a clear day, however prey is still hard to find and so are herbs. Kittings will be much harder now in leaf-bare and the chance of running into cats on a patrol are lower.
