Brairstar was hunting, as it was a fairly nice day. For leaf-bare. Stars it was freezing. But at least the wind wasn’t as bad. She was now walking out of the caves, into the forest. The birds had quieted down, and of course, prey was scarce. But it was a necessity, so, here she was, looking for prey. Her paws left prints in the snow. She felt like letting herself sink into it. It looked so soft, but Brairstar reminded herself that snow was also dangerous, and, very cold.

CascadeClan shelters in a small, lush, fertile river-valley centered around a pond. The weather is mostly warm, moist, and humid. A farm can be found on the hill northwest of Cascade known as the Ryefields. Wheat is grown there and it makes the perfect hunting ground. To the east of Cascade is a jungle filled with exotic creatures known as the Wildcries. It's rumored that another Clan lives deep in the tropics, but no cat of Cascade has ever met one of theirs. The jungle is the second hunting ground, but only skilled cats can go in there, as the Wildcries are a very dangerous place. Cats of Cascade also fish in the pond. However, it will easily flood during the rain. Cascade cats' dens are out in the open. They sleep in nests made of lush grass. All cats sleep in the same area regardless of rank. However, sick cats sometimes stay at the farm. Cascade cats can be found in all colors, but white is surprisingly rare. Sandy-colored cats that blend in with the wheat are common, as are grey and black-furred felines.

It would happen when Loststar wasn’t here to vouch for me, that stubborn molly claiming she was protecting her clan. I was in that clan! Can’t even get into camp. I chose to wait near the crossing since I knew Loststar would be this way, I knew he was around because of his scent.

As usual I saw him before I heard him and got up from my spot, just as I was about to give him an earful I saw a new pelt and went over to say hello.

“Back already?” Loststar asked me, that had done it. His amusement set me off, even if it was just slight amusement.

“I was just about to be civil and wait to give you an earful, but I changed my mind! What do you mean back already? You, Loststar, told me to stay a night in the ruins, that scary and lonely place.” I hissed and shivered at the same time. “And then when I come back to camp, I'm not allowed to step foot because some molly would not let me. Said she was protecting her clan. Inside Stormclan camp? Last I checked I was still part of the clan.” I could have gone even more, but I stopped to catch my breath and give him a chance to talk.

“First, Peachpaw, I said a night, not a moon. You always have to go the extra step though to prove yourself.” Loststar started.

“You know why I do…” I growled.

Loststar’s ears flicked and his amusement went to annoyance, “You do not have to prove yourself in the stead of your mother, what she did was her own.” He told me sternly. I couldn’t help but look away. I knew he constantly told me I did not have to atone for what my mother did, but I wanted to prove to him that I am better, stronger even than that. “Now is not the time to talk about this Peachpaw, since you've been gone some things have changed. This is Featherpool, she was sent by Starclan by my request to aid the cats in camp.” I waited to see if there was more, but as usual it looks like I would have to pry more answers from him.

“Whatever, I just want to go home…” I meowed with defeat.

“Shocked you didn’t fight your way in to see if someone would stick up for you.” Loststar teased as he led the way.

“Not a very good impression that would be if these are new clan mates, now is it?” I snickered. “So are you going to tell me who they are or what?”

“You can find out, they showed up after the big storm shortly after you left.” Loststar told me.

“Are they staying?” I asked.

Loststar shrugged, “Some don’t have a choice right now, it explains why I asked Starclan for some help.”

That's when I remembered the stranger following us, “Thank you for helping us.” Featherpool stayed quiet and looked ahead. “How did Starclan send you?” I asked.

More silence from the molly, Loststar though flicked me with his tail, “That is not very polite Peachpaw. A thank you is all that is needed and an offer to stay does not hurt.”

I quickly muttered a thank you to Featherpool, but the molly’s silence made me skeptical.

It was a typical night as I laid down. A cat had brought me a rabbit in exchange of helping their mate recover from kitting and that is what I ate before finding more mint to line my nest with. The lavender had already dried in my nest but I would have to wait for a new leaf to line it with more of the flowers. I preferred it this way, cats can seek me out if they need it and exchange my knowledge for prey and protection.

Just as I fell asleep the scent of mint and lavender left my senses and I could smell ash and dirt surrounding me. “Hello mother..” I said in my dream.

“Hello Featherpool, how has life been for you?” She of course didn’t show herself, why would she?

“Don’t pretend to care, what do you want?” I grumbled, I just wanted to sleep peacefully.

I could feel the hurt around me and regretted my words a bit but didn’t say anything. I knew she was still there and I waited for her to continue. “I have a request for you, from the leaders of Starclan.”

“No thanks.” I muttered. Starclan can go find another puppet to play with.

“They are allowing me to give you what you want…” This was interesting.

“And how do they know what I want?” I listened.

“It is what you think you lost in the fire…” More riddles, always with the guessing game. I dislike Starclan.

“And that is?” I am going to make them say it.

“Your sister.” My mother meowed simply. A new scent of sea salt and pine filled my mind.

“She is alive?”

“Yes, and she is very lost. Not lost like you may think, but conflicted with her path. She thinks you are dead though.” My mother explained.

“And what about father?” I asked.

“He has never been in your life, why would he start now?”

“I wonder why he was never around…” I growled. “I want the rest of my family, not just half.”

A sigh and then an answer, “Please Featherpool, do what Starclan asks and I promise I will lead him to you and your sister.”

“Fine.” I grumbled. My mint and lavender scent filled my senses again and helped me rest easy. I ate a few herbs that would provide strength for this journey before packing a few others.

It was easy to find the way as I followed the scent of ash and sea for a few days that led to a cave. Inside a large tom sat at a pool that had glow worms at the top, welp at least I knew I was in the right spot. The tom looked over and started, “Hello, I am Loststar. Did Starclan send you here?”

“You could say they did. My name is Featherpool and I am a medicine cat.” There was no need to tell Loststar about the deal I had made with Starclan for me to accept this.

“Let me sho-” I cut him off.

“Don’t bother. I dont patrol, I don't get caught up in silly fights, and I don’t hunt. I make cats well and that is all.” I meowed flatly.

Loststar nodded, “I can accept this, let me show you to camp then.” Not like I was going to give him a choice about this, but I didn’t argue. On our way there we ran into a young cat, they did not look so happy with the leader. I chose not to say anything and stay silent, watching their exchange.

Loststar introduced me and it seems like Peachpaw didn’t care for a new cat, I hope this is not a normal thing for this clan. Peachpaw’s question caught me off guard though, they already knew Starclan sent me, but the curiosity of young cats can be somewhat annoying. I had no intentions of answering Peachpaw though, and it was Loststar that scolded her for asking such a question. No worries though, I was eager to get back to the camp, where my sister supposedly is waiting for me.

I woke up to a low chanting in the distance, "Peachblossom! Peachblossom!" When I tried to lift my head to look I found that I couldn't, and instead a low groan escaped me.

"You need to rest a bit more, here eat this first to get your strength back up." A stranger had told me. I ate the berry and found myself falling back asleep shortly after.

The next morning I felt a sharp jab to my shoulder and growled, "Wake up and eat this. You can sleep afterwards." the same stranger ordered me. I opened my eyes and saw a small vole in front of me, along with a berry. I chose to eat the berry first and then tried to eat the vole, I only managed a few nibbles before closing my eyes again.

"You have to eat more Chinchillachill." I heard Umberleap's familiar voice. I cracked my eyes open and tried to talk but couldn't. "If you eat more I'll try sit with you and tell you what happened." Umberleap compromised. I started to nibble on the vole, focusing on not vomiting as I swallowed pieces. Umberleap came and sat next to me and started, "I'm sure you remember the large storm, and we had just moved our camp to the ruins by the water. The storm pushed large waves and we didn't worry because the walls held up, however, a larger wave appeared, and well, that's all I remember from that.

I woke up to Loststar and he told me that he pulled some of us out of the sea when he saw us. He wasn't able to get all of us…" there was sadness in her voice. "Loststar said the current either pulled them back out to sea or down the rushing river where only Starclan saves them. I followed that river down for a few days and there was no chance any cat would survive those currents and rocks. So I came back here, to Stormclan, and told Loststar I would join his clan. He allowed me to and said he would let everyone of us choose to go or stay, but if we go he won't accept us back." I felt the tears well up in my eyes, I couldn't eat another bite after that.

"I'm sorry, I know you were close to some of them. Besides us two the other survivors are; Mossmoon, Penguinfur, and Warblerpaw." Umberleap finished telling me. I let the tears run after that. My friends, Foxbite, and Skipperwing, and her siblings, I'll never see them again. I closed my eyes and let the darkness surround me again.

I woke up to another jab to the shoulder and I growled, "Stop that!"

"Time to eat more, you need to get that strength up and get out of my den." I heard the stranger grumble.

"What's the point? All my friends are gone, why did Starclan leave me?" I whispered. The stranger didn't answer and I didn't bother eating.

I heard Umberleap come into the den and great the stranger, "Hello Featherpool." I thought I heard a purr from one of the mollies, but it was faint.

"Umberleap, get that one to eat or try to move. She needs to get out of my den." Featherpool grumbled. I heard Umberleap's chuckle as she moved closer to me.

"Go away Umberleap." I growled.

"At least eat a little bit. You're awake now and it's time to get stronger."

"Why?"

"For yourself."

"I want to be alone."

"You're never alone in a medicine cat's den. So eat and get stronger and then you can move."

"Go away."

"I don't think I will." I heard a plop next to me, and the tickling fur against me. I flinched and tried to move but couldn't.

"Eat the berry." Featherpool ordered. "It gives strength. I can find some stuff for your nerves later, but you need to get moving."

"I'm trying…" I growled.

"Try harder." Featherpool ordered again. I was starting to really dislike this cat. Ordering me around like she knew me.

"Featherpool, I don’t think that's helping. She just lost a lot and found out not too long ago…"

"So what? Many cats go through a lot of loss, it's no excuse to stop going forward. Would the cats you lost want you to just give up?" I stayed silent, it seemed like we all knew that answer. "Didn't think so. So eat the herbs I give you, eat your food, and move around like a kit if you have too, but get out of my den." Featherpool finished.

I closed my eyes and ignored them. Why should I bother listening to them? What did they know?
