tigerpaw grumbled quietly as he sat at the edge of rainpaw's nest, clearsight drawing her tongue over the young she-apprentice's ears to wash her. rainpaw purred softly as she did so, fairly relaxed, though tigerpaw suspected the cold weather was making her wounds ache. "you can do it, tigerpaw. i know you can." the young she-cat mewed, and tigerpaw's tail twitched as he gave a huff once more.

"but what if i fail again? i've tried twice now, and i failed both times. i feel like i'm never going to be a warrior at this rate."

rainpaw gave a soft role of her eyes, and he felt the skin of his face grow hot some, his ears flicking. he knew the implications of what he'd said were hurtful. "sorry, i didn't mean--"

"it's okay, tigerpaw. you're just nervous. you need to relax. leopardflank is probably just as nervous as you--she lost riverpaw. she doesn't want to lose you. she's just trying to make sure you're as ready as you can be."

tigerpaw's eyes widened faintly at the sentiment. it was true that leopardflank had an unfortunate history with apprentices. he thought back to the way she looked at him during training, how hard she pushed him but how slow she took things. maybe she really was just trying to keep him from being hurt.

clearsight stopped her ministrations, turning her head in tigerpaw's direction. "i think rainpaw is right, dear. i know its a bit rough, but the easier your nerves when you tackle your assessment, the easier it'll be. a lot of us fail the first time or two. that's normal."

there was a soft yowl calling tigerpaw from outside the den, and the striped tom huffed, standing and shaking out his coat.

"tigerpaw."

"yes, clearsight?" he looked back, blinking once.

"just remember that if she didn't think you were ready, she wouldn't be testing you again so soon."

the apprentice's eyes widened a fraction, and he nodded, before darting out into the clearing.

rainpaw gave a soft mrrow of laughter.

"he'll do just fine."

as leopardflank headed towards the fresh kill pile, flinteyes ran to her side. "leopardflank!" he mewed, and she paused, slowing, her eye narrowed with concern.

"flinteyes. is something wrong? does tempeststar need me?" she asked, her tail flicking once as the tom stopped to catch his breath.

"no, no, hah... nothing like that. i just got back from patrol, and i wanted to catch you before you sat down to eat." the gray tom glanced up at her, and she blinked at him, obviously confused. "do you want to share prey? i. i need to talk to you about something."

leopardflank looked puzzled, but nodded slowly, and flinteyes brightened immediately. he stood, straightening, and snatched a fish from the fresh kill pile before heading over to their favorite spot, leopardflank following. the older warrior sat down, and rested the fish on the clearing floor as leopardflank did the same, still watching him, clearly perplexed.

"what's going on?" she finally asked.

flinteyes glanced up, and swallowed, before glancing away.

"...i know we haven't always gotten along, but in the past few moons i've felt a lot closer to you. we sleep next to each other in the warrior den, we go hunting together with tigerpaw, we... i mean, we even share meals together now. sometimes you're really stubborn and kind of cold--"

leopardflank narrowed her eyes.

"but you're not really! i just. i think you're really absorbed with your work, and you forget to rest and open up. a lot of cats in the clan depend on you, including our leader." he glanced down, and the she-cat's eyes softened.

"...flinteyes, wh--"

"but you need someone to depend on, too." flinteyes raised his head, meeting her gaze, and she blinked with surprise. "leopardflank, i want to give you my shoulder to lean on. i want to be the one thing you don't have to worry about impressing." his face and voice showed conviction, but his yellow eyes were tinged with longing, and leopardflank felt a pang of something in her heart.

"i want to be here for you whenever you need anything, whenever you want anything. i want to be your anchor. i want to be your mate."

the tip of his tail curled around leopardflank's, and her gaze fell onto it. he looked stuck, unsure, before she gave a soft laugh.

"...you're an idiot, but you're an idiot i care about."

she entwined her spotted tail with his own, and his eyes grew wide.

"are you sure you can handle it?"

"i've handled you since the beginning. i'm not going anywhere."

"...then i'd like that."

One Moon Ago ~

The air was cold, and the rain that slipped through the needles of the colossal conifers was piercing. Each hurried step landed her paws in another frigid puddle of water, the splash doing little to add to her already drenched coat. After she’d walked away from the clan, the rain had seized for one brief moment, but it returned with a rage soon after. The forest had taken on a pitch black filter as the night continued and the rain seemed to be out to blind her. The grey molly was forced to rely on her ears for the most part, gratefully catching glimpses of the scenery around her whenever she could duck beneath the brush.
Suddenly, something yowled out into the night. The sound was drowned out as soon as it arose, and Pebblevine’s dashing strides slowed to a stop, ears perked forward. She could hear the river. The heavy torrent was bursting, snatching away loose bits of earth as it tried to expand over the edges of its banks. The molly was almost convinced she hadn’t heard anything when a bundle of white burst up from the current with a ragged gasp.
Without a thought, without even realizing how close she’d come to being swallowed up by the river herself, the grey warrior was dashing to the water’s edge, stretching out her claws to try and catch the young cat in her grasp. She could feel her paws slipping, the pull of the current almost eager in its attempts to unbalance her and drag her into its bulging depths. But at last, the snow white fur came into contact with the molly’s outstretched claws and Pebblevine made to wrench her paw back. She hadn’t expected such a heavy weight to come with the slight creature.
It was sudden: the swirling abyss, the choking waves, the swallowing sensation as the river swept her up. Her ears were clogged up, but she could swear someone was screaming. Someone was shouting, yelling, and then a louder splash echoed just beside her. Desperate claws clasped around her stomach and both of them were being dragged further into the inky current. Pebblevine’s paws scrambled and panic began to fog up her mind. Oh Starclan, she was going to drown.

Coyotestar had to admit. His swimming skills were terribly rusty, but after having managed to drag both mollies out of the surging river, he couldn’t help but feel a little bit proud of himself. And then his mind battered him with reminders that he had turned right back around on his way to camp just to seek out Pebblevine like some desperate, pining…
The ruddy tom heaved a sigh, knocking his head against the grey molly’s own. She probably wasn’t even aware of it, but her throat was thrumming with scared, warbled purrs. He offered his own deep rumble in an attempt to help calm her down, knowing full well that she wouldn’t appreciate it later. His eyes glanced past her to land on the other molly, pure white with a set of black ears and a black tail. Her belly was swollen and her neck was marked with a twoleg’s ownership over her. The collar was hard to see in the darkness, but he could catch glimpses of light coming off of the dented, broken bell as the moonlight peeked through gaps in the clouds. The rain was just a drizzle now and as much as Coyotestar wanted to be pleased with that, it was still adding to the threatening wash of water behind the trio.
Coyotestar pulled himself up to his feet, shaking out his drenched pelt with a groan. Pebblevine startled beside him, and after a glance back at the surging river, her desperate eyes sought him out. “Let’s go back to camp for now,” He suggested, nudging his nose into the other molly’s fur until she stirred. Pebblevine’s response was a curt nod, and if Coyotestar noticed that the grey molly was essentially pressing herself into the tom as they walked, he didn’t say anything to indicate it.

Owlstorm was rightfully concerned about the safety and well-being of those from the Clan he once lead, so it wasn't a surprise in the slightest that he offered to join Rainsong in the search for his remaining Clanmates who were lost in the cold, snowy landscape. Rainsong took the lead with Owlstorm just behind, fiery determination in every paw step the brown tom took. "This is where we last camped." Rainsong pointed out, nodding his head towards a group of torn and now dead bushes, a barely visible piece of rotting prey could be seen in the snow.

Owlstorm wore a thin grimace, whatever scents were here had faded away now, only the slightest stench of fox drifted in the air. "And you're sure this is the place, Rainsong?" Owlstorm inquired, staring at the gray tom inquisitively. "Absolutely, Owlstar." He mewed affirmatively, his head tilted in confusion as Owlstorm's grimace grew. "That life is behind me, Rainsong. I'm Owlstorm now," He corrected, padding further ahead of the warrior once he got a nod in reply.

"Sorry about that, Owlsta- storm," Rainsong stuttered, trotting a few paces to catch up with the fast moving deputy. "It's just still hard to adjust to this... new Clan." He admitted, Owlstorm tempted to mew agreement, but decided to stay silent. "At least you aren't the only one who came from GaleClan, I suppose that makes things a little easier?" He mewed, a surprised trill left his throat as Rainsong shook his head. "Quite the opposite, there's days where I wake up and think I'm in GaleClan again." Rainsong mewed somberly, sadly chuckling.

"I should get used to it eventually, Hazestar's a good leader and HazeClan is a great home. And like you said, that life is behind us now." He mewed, a forced grin on his face as he stared at Owlstorm before his direction was caught by a smell coming their way. Owlstorm caught it, nose twitching as the ever faint, but still recognizable, scent of GaleClan drifted in the wind. "They're this way, come on!" Owlstorm shouted, pelting through the snow with Rainsong at his side.

The two toms headed towards a copse of dead and fallen trees, in the distance a faint blank shape was seen sitting atop a fallen log, likely keeping watch over their stretch of land before it turned to stare towards the two warriors quickly making their way over and leaped off their lookout to cautiously approached the pair. However all caution was thrown to the wind when the black molly instantly recognized the pelts of her old Clanmates from GaleClan. "Owlstar, Rainsong!" Shadowripple shouted excitedly, running towards the pair and butting her head with theirs in greeting.

"Thank StarClan you're both safe." She mewed, Rainsong wincing at the use of 'StarClan' while Owlstorm flinched at the mention of his old name. "And what's happened to Twigstorm? Is he safe? How did you escape the foxes?" Rainsong mewed, interrogating the molly about how she and the ginger tom managed since they were last together. Owlstorm tuned them both out, watching quietly as Shadowripple told her tale while the orange head of Twigstorm peeked out nearby from the safety of a hollowed out log.

He was disappointed knowing that he offered them shelter in GaleClan after they lost IvyClan, and now they would have to join another Clan yet again. Owlstorm quickly barked the order for all of them to return home; the sooner the better.

He wouldn't fail anyone this time.

Lynxstar looked over proudly at Ashen, the long stoat hanging from his jaws a good sign for their days to come in Glacierclan. He was a great hunter, and the leader found herself asking him how he did many things. As a cat whose fur color wasn't white, it must have been hard to hunt when you couldn't blend in. Ashen had chuckled at her, explaining how to use the snow to your advantage in situations like this. If the stoat could hunt down prey with its brown coating so could he and any other cats with darker fur colors.

As they entered the cozy confines of their camp, Lynxstar noticed that no one else was around. Had Skystem not yet returned? She hoped those cat smells on their border didn't give her any trouble…
“Skystem? Are you here?” her voice echoed off the stone wall and came right back to her.
“Perhaps she's still out.” Ashen suggested, trotting along to sniff along the rock face. Its height could be intimidating for anyone first living in it. Lynxstar assured him however, that inside it was really comfy and warm.
Then her deputy’s head perked up, “I smell cats. They've been here recently..” He followed the scent to the badger den, poking his head in.
Lynxstar was about to chime in before he pulled back smiling, “Ah, I think I know where your medicine cat went.” He pointed inside the nest with a paw.
Lynxstar tilted her head, following his indication and seeing three cats huddled up together. Skystem among them, with two smaller cats she could only assume were the rogues she had gotten wind of.
They were sleeping soundly, and looked mighty thin, The poor things. Skystem stepped inside and stirred Skystem, who blinked up wearily at her.
“Oh…! Lynxstar you're back,” she purred.
“I am! And Starclan has sent me a new cat,” she motioned with her tail towards Ashen. “He's our deputy now.”
Skystem carefully untangled herself from the cats and touched noses with Ahsen. “It's nice to meet you..”
“He doesn't have a proper name yet,” Lynxstar smiled, “But I was thinking maybe you could help me come up with one.”
Ashen straightened up to his full height. “I would like to keep Ashen in my name of that's fine with you Lynxstar. It holds a lot of value to me.”
Both the girls giggled, and Ashen smiled coolly. He had a feeling the three of them would get along just fine.
“Alright Mr.CoolandConfident.” Skystem stepped around him, examining his form and features. Lynxstar laughed some more, she was finding this hilarious.
“Hmm...those piercing eyes of yours. Do you have good sight?”
“I would hope so,” he shook himself, “Although my father always said I could see more than him and my brothers. Things they had to get close enough to see with regular eyes."
Skystem nodded, standing in front to stare into the calm pools. “It would seem my assumption was correct. Lynxstar, Ashen, if it is ok with the both of you...I think you shall be called Ashengaze. After your extraordinary sight capabilities.”
“Ashengaze..” He murmured the name quietly to himself, while Lynxstar nodded her approval.
“I like it, I think it suits me.” Ashengaze purred, taking pride in his new name.
“That's great, we welcome you to Glacierclan with open paws Ashengaze. I know you'll help lead our clan with vigor.” Lynxstar touched noses with him next, before she suddenly remembered.
“Oh, Skystem, who were those cats sleeping with you? Were they who you smelled?”
It seemed her earlier escapade had slipped her mind as well, for Skystem gasped, “Right! Right! Yes they were who I smelled, although they are a lot younger than I first thought.” she slipped back into the medicine den and a few minutes later came back out with the two felines.
“Ashengaze, Lynxstar, this is Cherry and Ferret.” she swept her tail over both cats heads, noticing how Cherry flinched. “They were nearly starving and frozen by the border. Cherry couldn't even walk herself here, so I leant them some of my warmth. They couldn't make the trip up to the apprentices den.”
Ferret looked up with huge eyes towards the newcomers, shrinking and hiding behind Skystem.
“I think you're scaring him,” Ashengaze joked to Lynxstar, who looked at him with an amused look.
“Ah it's not you two, he thought I was going to eat him and his sister. They're just jumpy.” Skystem licked Cherry’s head. She purred in response and slowly and carefully padded over to Lynxstar. Her movements were clumsy and unsure but she made the walk and looked in the leader's eyes with determination.
“Me and Ferret would like to join your clan.” her mew was high pitched and raspy, but she didn't falter or cough.
Lynxstar smiled, she liked Cherry already. “Well Cherry, Ferret, are you sure you can handle the responsibilities and work of a clan cat?”
Ferret jumped from behind Skystem and shouldered beside his sister, his eyes were shining. “Yes! Skystem told us all about everything, we wanna become warriors!”
“Then it appears it is settled,” She touched her nose to both cats. “Later on we can hold a more traditional ceremony, but you shall both be known as Cherrypaw and Ferretpaw until you are old enough to become warriors.”
She led Ferretpaw over to Ashengaze, “Ashengaze shall be your mentor Ferretpaw. And Cherrypaw,” she turned around to grin at her, “I shall be yours.”
The apprentices smiled, and Ferretpaw jumped around in excitement. Lynxstar could already see they would become fine warriors, as they had that fiery passion that would lead them on.

Lynxstar yawned and stretched, walking out of her den and heading for the entrance. The camp was so quiet as she walked, the sounds of nature were her only signs of any life in the area. The others had gone to sleep long ago, and now it was her time to return to the Moonpool.

[Ashengaze and Lynxstar take the apprentices out to train, Skystem goes looking for herbs, and later Lynxstar makes her trip to the Moonpool to ask for a Queen.]

Season:

Leaf-Bare

Weather:

The trees have become bare, and the days have grown short. The air is cold and crisp and the sky is cloudy. It won't be long till the snow begins to fall now, prey has now become scarce as they are tucked inside a nice warm den of their own. Predators and stray cats are also less likely as well as they try to brace the season themselves.

Leaffall
The season of fall. During leaffall, it will start to get colder so the amount of prey you will catch will go down. The sun will start going down earlier and this will continue into leafbare. Kittings will start to get a little bit harder so make sure to stock up on kitting herbs like fennel, chervil, ragwort leaves and raspberry leaves. You will also run into foxes and possibly badgers more.
