“The water exercises should help you strengthen your leg without straining the muscles too much,” Cloudpool advised, looking from Burrwhisker to Sedgetail calmly. “Make sure you two don’t go too far from camp and come back when Sedgetail starts getting tired.” Cloudpool instructed. “We will, don’t worry about us. Besides Shadedleaf and Lev will be out here too. If we need anything, we’ll call for someone.” Sedgetail assured him. Cloudpool nodded, dismissing them. As soon as they left the medicine den, he could hear Sedgetail’s voice lift with excitement. It was the first time the silver molly would leave camp since her leg had been broken. With Burrwhisker’s help, the pair would go to a quiet, calm area of the river to work on strengthening her leg. It was healing well and Sedgetail had been insisting for so long that she get out of camp.
With Sedgetail and Burrwhisker gone, the den was empty except for him. Shadedleaf and Lev had already gone searching for herbs and none of the warriors injured from the badger attack needed more herbs. Hawkfeather was blind in his left eye and Dappleleaf had lost more than half her tail but even their injuries no longer needed attention. They simply needed time to adjust.
As he was thinking about them, the calico molly slipped into the den, uncertainty flickering in her eyes. Dappleleaf blinked at the grey and white medicine cat, recalling the terror she’d felt when he’d been in danger. She’d thought about that for a long time, wrestling with her feelings for the tom. She was a warrior and he, a medicine cat. Theirs wouldn’t be a relationship blessed by Starclan. But yet, neither could help what they felt. It was all so frustrating but here was a cat who she treasured over all the other cats in the clan.
“Are you okay Dappleleaf?” Cloudpool asked, after a moment or two of silence. She started slightly but nodded. “I’m fine, I-I’ve just been thinking. Alot. About what you told me before. About you liking me.” Nerves made her voice a bit higher pitched. “I didn’t quite realize before but now I do. When that badger was confronting you, I thought you were going to die.” Dappleleaf comfessed, her voice cracking. “I couldn’t take that pain. That’s why I saved you. Losing you would’ve been like losing a part of my heart.” The calico molly looked at her paws and then up at the medicine cat. “I love you Cloudpool.” The medicine cat had to blink a few times, to reassure himself that this was real and not a dream. Hesitantly, he let his tail rest gently on her back. “I love you too, Dappleleaf.”

solarclan's tradition:
when an apprentice becomes a warrior, they are presented with a gemstone that either correlates with their eye color, pelt color, or personality. for example, a fiery, energetic tom may receive a red jasper stone. kits are taught to anticipate the day when they receive a gemstone, and to keep it safely tucked away within their nests. the leader watches the training sessions and goes on hunting and border patrols frequently to determine what stone the new warrior shall receive. when a warrior dies, their gemstone is placed on top of their grave, to forever be a testament to them. it is said that their spirit is tethered to that gem, and if it's lost, then their spirit is lost. if an apprentice or kit dies, then the leader will choose a gem based on what might've been.

~A Quarter-Moon Ago~

"What's this?" Emberblaze's eyes were fixed on a squirrel and a mouse that had washed up and were on the banks of the river. he sniffed. they smelled of a clan far away. His eyes darted towards his companions. "What is it?" Asked Goldheart, his voice slightly muffled by the fresh-kill he was carrying. Soaringstep's sneaky eyes narrowed. Emberblaze turned around, and saw Dewthorn come forward to pick them up. "Let's just take them back to camp." She purred, fur bristling shyly. Emberblaze nodded, but bent down to sniff them first. "They seem fresh." he explained. The patrol then made their way back to camp, each thinking about the found prey.

~Meanwhile~

Skystar was just sitting in camp when he noticed an apprentice walking towards him. Their eyes were darting around and cautious. "I'm Wind..." The apprentice stammered. Then he took a deep breath and his eyes went blank for a moment. "I was sent by StarClan." he explained, growing in confidence. Then Emberblaze bounded into camp, his eyes bright. "We caught-" he began. "I was told I was going to be a medicine cat apprentice." he paused. "Will I become Windpaw?" The apprentice's green eyes stared up imploringly. At that moment, Cloudyspots walked in, two herbs in her mouth. "Y-yes." The eerie apprentice's eyes lit up. "Who's that?" Cloudyspots asked."I'm Windpaw..." The apprentice stammered again, reminding Skystar of a few moments ago when he had spoke exactly like that. His fur bristled. Then the border patrol came in, leaving the hunting patrol to push their way into the camp entrance as even more warriors jostled past. Boarpaw gawped at the new apprentice, and Firepaw stuck his head out of the apprentice den and gaped. Windpaw ignored the two other apprentices, and batted at a leaf soaring in the wind.

Cloudyspots edged her way forward, dropping the herbs. Windpaw ran over to her. She could smell the scent of herbs on his pelt. A medicine cat apprentice! "I guess you are going to be my apprentice?" She enquired. Skystar's eyes widened and she purred with amusement. Dreamingwing, who was sitting by the queen's den, caught her eye and both of them started to chuckle. Windpaw looked at her oddly. Boarpaw walked up to her. "We found a kit!" He gave her a look too, and somehow Cloudyspots calmed herself. She took a few deep breaths, and noticed her new apprentice was doing the same. "Lets go collect herbs!" She yowled, eyes wild with excitement. "But the kit..."

~A few days later~

Mintkit looked around. He was surrounded by she-kits. Smallkit had his hackles raised, growling at all of them, before walking over to a kit found on the border, Shadowkit. Mintkit cocked his head in surprise. Smallkit had claimed that all of the she-kits were enemies, but now he supposed he was changing his mind. Mintkit shrugged. If Smallkit wanted to join the enemy's side, that was fine. He shook his head drowsily.
Mintkit closed his eyes, just before hearing a voice nearby.
"Shadowkit, meet Saddlekit!"
A light rain nibbled at the clan, ready to engulf them. The ice-like claws rug into their pelts, warning them to stay away. Soon there would be more shadows stretching over the truth.

Weather:

The air has a slight nip to it in the mornings and at night, easily finding its way inside dens, so make sure to repair your dens and patch any cracks. The two-legs and their dogs won't come into the clan territories as often as they did in green-leaf, but you will still see them from time to time. Predators are now more commonly found, so be careful. Some of the prey has started to hide away for hibernation but there is still plenty for your cats to catch before the cold season. Kittings will start to become harder during this time and the chance of kits and queens dying is common. Be careful with apprentices and kits being outside to much, being exposed to the cold can make them sick.

It was rare to assign a parent to their own kit as mentor and apprentice but Sorrelstar knew that Thundercry would do well in training his daughter. Besides, it was the least she could do after Dewkit's loss. Thundercry has enjoyed being with his daughter. She was learning well and quite quickly. So far he hadn't had to be too harsh but just mildly. It would be soon that she would be a warrior. Shardpaw and Puddlepaw were just about ready. His little princess was growing up fast. "Is that it for today dad?" The she cat asked after catching her first fish. "I think so. Come along then, let's head black to camp." Thundercry purred as the four cats started to pad back. As they did, Hickorypaw saw a leaf fall in front of her. It looked... yellow? "Why is this leaf yellow?" She asked with an ear flick. "That Hickorypaw means that leaf-fare is here. Leaf-bare is when the temperature cools down a bit and the leaves fall off the trees." Boarfang explained. The two apprentices gasped in awe before they leaped around trying to catch the leaves. The older toms chuckled before eventually reaching camp. As they walked in, things were quite busy. Cats were all around fixing up dens making sure things were ready for leafbare. Cats were also seen bringing more moss into camp and then storing it in a hole. "What's going on?" Puddlepaw asked. "We are preparing for leafbare, the season after this. Up here in the mountains, it gets very cold during leafbare. It also snows a lot. There is still sun though but it won't do much." Boarfang again explained.

Thundercry took his daughter in to see his mate who was laying down in her nest purring softly, her stomach was more plump then before. "Hello dear." The queen purred when she saw her mate and daughter. "Dad taught me how to fish today! The fish I caught was huge!" Hickorypaw exclaimed with a laugh. "I'm so proud of you. Come closer, the kits are moving." Weaselhop meowed before the two cats padded over. Hickorypaw placed her paw on her mother's stomach and felt a tiny kick. She gasped a bit weary on what to feel. Thundercry also did the same thing and he too felt a kick. "The kicks are painful but look, they are trying to say hello." The queen purred happily. Hickorypaw smiled and rested her head on her mother's stomach. "Hi baby brothers and sisters! I'm Hickorypaw! I'm your big sister!" She purred speaking out to the unborn kittens who replied with a kick. The parents purred softly seeing their daughter talk to the unborn kits. But hunting was a main priority, "Hickorypaw, we better head out hunting once more. With leaf-fall now here, prey will be a lot harder to get." The two said goodbye to the she cat before trotting off with a few other clanmates.

Reedberry entered camp with marigold and a deathberry. He set the herbs down and organaized them before grabbing the marigold and treated his tail. "There you go! It should be all ready to go now." Leopardheart stood up and purred happily. He knew he should probably wait a bit longer before heading back out. Poor Shardpaw. He didn't think he would become a warrior with his sister because of this injury. As the tom rested, Reedberry snuck away into the nursery. Thankfully Weaselhop was asleep and Pumalight was awake. "Puma. Hello." He purred out softly. The she cat looked up and grinned when seeing the tom. The two nuzzled each other and Pumalight meowed, "Reedberry look, feel my stomach." The tom placed a paw and felt a few kicks. Those were the kits. He gasped in awe and couldn't stop placing his paws down trying to feel more kicks. Pumalight giggled softly at the excited tom's reaction. "That's right little ones. This is your father." Pumalight purred softly. After a few minutes, Reedberry headed back into the medicine cat's den smiling about his little kits. Though... it will be hard when they are born and then Boarfang will be looking after them.

from the moment maplestar woke up, she knew something was off. something just didn't feel right to her. the auburn colored cat looked down at her kits, cuddled up sleeping silently against her. she smiled softly and looked around, seeing that rowanclaw had already gotten up. it was nice being the only queen in the nursery at the time, rowanclaw was able to spend a lot of time with them. she wanted to speak to rowanclaw about her concerns, but she didn't want to wake the kits. maplestar cautiously began to get up, successfully not waking the kits, and made her way towards the entrance of the nursery. she peeked her head out and saw that just a few other members were awake. rowanclaw sat talking with their newest member, acornnose, mudslide was sorting his herbs as usual and dawnwing was basking in the sun with snowshoe. maplestar approached her mate and acornnose, waving her tail in greeting. "good morning you two.. I hope you both had a good nights rest." she purred, giving rowanclaw a quick nuzzle. rowanclaw purred back in response and nodded. acornnose gave her a bright smile, "oh yes. I slept great, it's easier to sleep when you know where your sleeping is safe." the young tom responded. maplestar smiled, "I'm glad you feel safe here acornnose." maplestar responded. "now that you're awake, I was thinking that maybe reedsong, acornnose, toadstool and I could patrol the south border.. this time of the season sometimes the foxes get too close on that side. we could go check and make sure everything is calm." rowanclaw suggested, giving maplestar an uncomfortable feeling. she was quiet a moment before slowly nodding, "alright.. how about after a hunting patrol though? I'll send out pearlstone, dawnwing and snowshoe for that, and please.. be careful." maplestar agreed, waving her tail at pearlstone who just emerged from the warriors den. "sounds good to me, I'll go check up on the kits while you speak to pearlstone then." rowanclaw ended, nodding goodbye to acornnose and nuzzling maplestar before making his way to the nursery. maplestar smiled at acornnose before padding over to greet pearlstone and discuss patrols with her. "I feel a little uneasy today.. so be careful when you're out hunting." maplestar ended, looking towards dawnwing and snowshoe. pearlstone smiled and set her tail gently on maplestar's shoulder, "when am I not careful dear maplestar." the deputy purred before padding over to the two warriors and leaving camp.

"alright everyone, let's head out.. and you heard maplestar, we have to be careful." rowanclaw announced, facing his patrol. the hunting patrol had had a good run, no problems and they felt like everything was calm in the forest, but maplestar was still concerned. rowanclaw waited for everyone to nod in agreement before turning around and leading the way out of camp. the 4 cats made there way through the forest towards the south border, everything seemed to be fine. rowanclaw glanced over at toadstool, who seemed a little nervous, "everything alright toadstool?" the tom asked quietly, not trying to draw any attention towards her. the small cat looked up at him and shrugged, "yeah. I just don't like the idea of foxes. they freak me out." toadstool responded with a dramatic shiver. rowanclaw smiled and let out a small laugh, "I'm sure we'll be fine. we haven't seen a fox around here in a while." toadstool looked forward, seeming to be a little more comfortable. once they reached the border however, rowanclaw felt a little off. he quickly shook the feeling away, it was probably just influenced by toadstool's nervous energy. "alright, let's spread out a little to cover more ground.. but stay within hearing and seeing distance alright?" rowanclaw announced, waiting for the mews of understanding and padding off. he searched for any signs that any other animals had been around. he saw a few deer tracks, about a day old, some raccoon prints that were just a few hours old... but raccoons weren't a big threat at all. rowanclaw froze where he was, staring at the ground, there it was... a fox print. rowanclaw shook his head and brought himself closer to the ground, was he just seeing things? no. that was a fox print.. and it was fresh. the fur on the back of rowanclaw's neck stood up straight and his head shot up, the birds had stopped chirping, he began looking around for everyone else, they had to leave now. they could deal with a fox when they had more numbers, they would come back. to fight one now with only a few cats would to be too much of a risk. rowanclaw made his way over to toadstool quickly, "toadstool, we have to leave now, where's reedsong and aco-" he was cut off by a loud yowl of terror not too far away. he immediately recognized it as acornnose's, rowanclaw exchanged a look of horror with toadstool before they sprinted off in the direction it came from. it was like a nightmare, rowanclaw froze at first, shocked. there it was, the fox, clamped down on acornnose's back right leg as reedsong was on it's back, digging his claws and fangs into it. rowanclaw shook his head as if to wake himself off and hissed at the fox, darting towards it and leaping on, digging his claws into it. it was a young fox, stronger than older ones but could easily be scared off by this many cats. the fight was a blurr, rowanclaw saw reedsong get knocked off right after the fox let go of acornnose. rowanclaw took this opportunity to swipe at the fox's face, catching it's cheek. the fox yipped in pain and bared it's teeth, coming straight for him. before it could reach him, reedsong was back, clinging onto the fox once more. the fox turned quickly, able to grab onto reedsong and flung him again. the two fought with all they had, and within a few more minutes of gnashing teeth and swiping claws, the fox was off... running off the territory. panting, rowanclaw and reedsong stood side be side, watching the fox run. it was then they both seemed to remember acornnose and whipped around to face him. the tabby tom laid on the forest floor, clearly in shock, and bleeding. his head was supported by the deeply concerned toadstool, who looked up at the two other cats desperately. "we have to get him to mudslide as fast as possible." rowanclaw declared, the cats quickly found a good way to carry acornnose and dashed back to the camp. they were greeted by anxious members, all with wide, horrified eyes. mudslide was at their side in an instant, helping them take the new warrior to the medicine cat den and set him down in a nest. it seemed like forever as mudslide treated acornnose, wrapping the tom's leg and giving him some painkillers. when mudslide emerged, he announced to the clan that acornnose would be fine, he just needed some time to heal. the medicine cat ushered the rest of the patrol inside, treating their wounds as well.

"you were right." rowanclaw sighed, leaning on maplestar as he watched the kits settle down to go to sleep."you're always right. I should've been more careful.." he continued, hanging his head. maplestar turned to him and set her nose on his shoulder for a moment, attempting to comfort him. "this is not your fault.. we haven't had a fox around in a long time. how were you to know there was going to be one here? today?" she responded softly. rowanclaw was silent, looking down at his paws. he should've just stayed in camp, what if acornnose had died? what if the fox just hadn't let go of reedsong? rowanclaw only looked up once maplestar motioned him to with her tail, "rowanclaw, darling, please don't beat yourself up." she said, looking at him with loving eyes, "you said the fox was young.. it's probably too scared to come back, it sounded like you all fought very well.. and very bravely.. everything will be okay.." rowanclaw nodded and rested his head on her shoulder once more.

snowshoe sat staring at reedsong as he hungrily ate a thrush. how was he so okay? was everything just fine? she looked him up and down, examining the spots the fox had got him. the thought brought tears to her eyes. reedsong did a double take and stopped eating and sat up when he noticed the tears in her eyes. "snow what's wrong? why are you crying?" he asked, concerned. snowshoe sniffed and looked into his eyes, "you're acting like everything's okay. like you didn't just get attacked by a-a fox." she responded in a quiet, shaky voice. reedsong let out a small sigh and offered her a weak smile, "everything is okay. acornnose got hurt but he's alive and mud said he's going to be okay. the fox is gone, it's not coming back, it's all okay." he said, inching closer to her. snowshoe shook her head and looked down, not saying anything. "snow, love, what can I do for you?" reedsong asked desperately, wanting to help her stop crying. "what if I had lost you?" snowshoe whispered, continuing to stare at the ground. "but darling, you didn't.. I'm here, I'm right here." snowshoe looked up, glaring at him, "but what if I did? what if you had died?" she spat, her voice angry but her expression sad. reedsong was quiet, he had no answer for her at the moment. she sat staring at him for another heartbeat before taking a deep breath, "I just.. I love you so much reedsong.. I don't know what I'd do without you. A world without you.. I can't imagine it." she said, quiet again. reedsong moved closer to her and nuzzled her. "I'm sorry I scared you.. but I'm here and I'm alive.. and I'm not going anywhere." he said softly.

Weather:

The air has a slight nip to it in the mornings and at night, easily finding its way inside dens, so make sure to repair your dens and patch any cracks. The two-legs and their dogs won't come into the clan territories as often as they did in green-leaf, but you will still see them from time to time. Predators are now more commonly found, so be careful. Some of the prey has started to hide away for hibernation but there is still plenty for your cats to catch before the cold season. Kittings will start to become harder during this time and the chance of kits and queens dying is common. Be careful with apprentices and kits being outside to much, being exposed to the cold can make them sick.

"Hey Sorrelstar, can we head back out later?" Shardpaw asked the leader. "I'm sorry Shardpaw but no. It's too cold outside. You may catch a cold." The leader meowed. The tom was strucken with a mix of emotions. "But Sorrelstar! I should be becoming an apprentice by now! Puddlepaw will be! What about me?" Sorrelstar shook her head and meowed, "You're going to have to wait. I'm sorry Shardpaw but it's too risky to keep going out. You don't want to be sick and delay your ceremony even more? Don't worry, I am sure you'll be a warrior by the time Hickorypaw is." Shardpaw grunted out before he raced back to camp in tears. Why couldn't he be a warrior? He was ready enough. Right? The cats sighed out a bit guilty of having to tell him no but he wasn't ready yet. Hopefully next time he can go out with his mentor.

The tom reached camp before he glanced over seeing Boarfang instruct Puddlepaw on what she needed to do for her final assignment. The she cat was ready. Shardpaw watched from afar and grunted angerly. Why? He stormed off before the two could see him. Boarfang headed out with Puddlepaw to start the assessment.

They returned and Boarfang looked quite please. He padded over to his leader in which her group had made it back to camp while they were out telling her Puddlepaw's results. "Excellent results I bring you. She is more than ready. Puddlepaw had a great hunters crouch and was very quick and agile when it came to combat. She was excellent. She is ready for her name." The deputy purred happily. "I'm glad to head that. I will set out to Shimmer Pool right now to tell StarClan." Sorrelstar answered before she padded out out camp.

Puddlepaw dashed over to a Shardpaw excitedly. "Shardpaw! I think I passed! Boarfang and Soreelstar seemed happy and Sorrelstar just headed out of camp! What about you? Did you pass?" She asked oblivious to the fact he was still two sessions behind. "Puddlepaw... go away. I'm not in the mood." He grunted with a huff. Puddlepaw's spirits fell down from seeing her brother upset. "Shardpaw? What's wrong? You can te-" she started before being pinned down. "I am two sessions behind! I would have been a warrior today if it weren't for that fox! If it weren't for leafbare! Maybe if it wasn't for you!" He shouted before running away from the she cat into the empty elder's den and laid down and cried. Puddlepaw got up before she sighed softly. Her brother was angry. She didn't know what to do.

Weaselhop was grooming herself up before the she cat yowled out in pain. Her kits were coming. She cried out for Reedberry who dashed on in a few seconds later. Though the tom panicked more when Pumalight also was starting to have kits. "Okay ladies, take some deep breaths. It's going to be alright." Reedberry meowed hoping that these kittings would be successful.

Having come back from from their hunting patrol with a bird, they were satisfied with it. Goldenstar had hoped they’d catch a bit more, but the clan only had two mouths to feed at the moment so it was fine. She set the bird down at the center of their encampment and sat down. Smoketail came to stand beside her. “You hunt well, Smoketail!” Goldenstar complimented with a broad smile. Smoketail’s tail twitched in embarrassment.
“Whatever... it was a lucky catch.” The she-cat shook her head.
“You know that’s not true. I didn’t catch anything!” It actually surprised her that she hadn’t caught a single thing. In her old territory, she had been one of the best hunters they had! She smiled fondly at the memory. The days when she was always just fighting to survive. Everyday was a constant struggle, but she, Leaf, and Flint were not phased by any of it. They were young, bold, and seemingly unstoppable. Those were good times. They felt like they could do anything as long as they had each other, but then a flood ripped through their home. Goldenstar had been carried off with the debris and never saw her two friends again... of course she had been found by the clan called Desertclan, but she later realized she wanted to try and start her own clan. She never stopped hoping that one day she’d see her former friends again... but many moons have passed and the odds grow more and more unlikely...

Goldenstar pushed the bird towards Smoketail. “You caught it, you can have the first bite.” She said with a fond smile. She and Smoketail had a very close relationship, a strong bond of friendship. They treated each other like kin and were more like brother and sister, than leader and deputy. The dark furred tom looked at his leader for a moment, almost surprised that she’d offer him the first bite, but made no complaint as he bit into the bird. His former clan leader would have never offered him the first bite. He would get slashed just at the mention of eating before the leader. It’d be considered mutiny and possible punishable by death.
After his first few bites he couldn’t help but smile with pleasure. It was a plump juicy bird and tasted delicious. Goldenstar was happy to see him so pleased and took a few bites herself. They passed it back and forth until they had their fill and there was still a bit left over. They covered it and saved it for later. Then the pair laid down for a nap in the sun.

Goldenstar knew how painfully small the clan was and realized that they really needed a medicine cat. Neither she, nor Smoketail knew anything about herbs. She turned towards her deputy and stood to her paws stretching. “I’m going to the moonpool tonight. I should be back by around sun-high tomorrow.” She said. The tom looked at her and nodded. “Stay safe. I’ll hunt again while you’re away.” He stated. Goldenstar gave him an approving dip of her head and then set off. The light-furred tabby walked through her territory by the beaches. There was a slight chill in the air which signaled that Greenleaf was coming to an end. She took a deep breath and scented the saltiness of the ocean water below and followed the river towards a crack in the rocks. She squeezed inside and laid down by the glowing water. Her eyes closed as her nose touched the water, and just like that she was in Starclan speaking to her ancestors. She asked them to send her a medicine cat. The answer they gave was unclear. They seemed to also be warning her about something, but it faded away too quickly. Only garbled words reached her ears. “What are you saying? I can’t understand you!” Goldenstar exclaimed, desperately trying to hear them. She felt like she was walking through mud as she tried to get closer to them. Suddenly her vision grew dark and she jolted awake in a panic.

What had happened? Goldenstar was confused and troubled by the abrupt ending and the words she couldn’t understand. She shook her head and headed back to her territory. Once inside her borders, she decided to check some of them and remark the borders to take her mind off it. She walked along the north and south borders, searching for any signs of other cats or predators.
