COMMUNITY POLL: Rare Monthly Pets

I can see the argument, for and against. More rares means greater chances for newer users to obtain rare pets. However, it will make it that much more difficult for folks that trade for a complete monthly set.

I think the pros out weigh the cons, personally, however, I would be most inclined to vote in favor of more rare pets, if they WERE like the Zebras. That way, there is ALWAYS a chance to get a rare pet each month, but the pet, itself, isn't limited to just THAT month, making it more accessible to folks looking to collect them, but also not interfering with monthly batch collection.

I like the second option best. I think that rare outcomes in the monthly litters are a really fun way to shake things up every now and then, but it's not something I would want to see every single month; it would lose its novelty rather quickly.

When I think of incorporating this feature, I think back to litters like the February 2010 null litter with the null PPS, March 2010 lava lamp litter and the lava lamp PPS, August 2010 with the PeaPS, and September 2010 with the stained glass PPS. Those were really fun!

Fun fact about your examples QuQ I absolutely hated the era of the PeaPS, the Stained glass PPS etc. There was a period in 2010 when I felt like I was being punished LOL. I did not get lucky with a single one of those pps pups being pulled through adoption. I was a relatively "new" user so I did not have the trade fodder to compete with those throwing 08 rares (I laugh now because those are list pets bahaha) at the PeaPs and stained glass PPS. Every pps advertised in the swap thread was taken instantly on the rare chance they popped up. I have a vivid memory of me and my friend clicking random users online trying to find someone who had an extra they didn't lock out from trading. I must have sent dozens of trades to try and get them. I did eventually get them all, but the experience was terrible 0/10. I had a stream of cancelled trades even offering the rarest pets I had at the time TnT I felt so small. With each month where a litter had a pps outcome everyone coveted I got more and more defeated. I would dread a pps outcome. I am sure for the lucky ones who pulled the pps pups in their monthly adopts they had a great time, but for me, who did not get lucky it was a nightmare to trade for them. Also I overpaid on them and I won't be showing the trades :lol:

I would say the hype would be like if they released a rare lion pps cub for 3 months in a row OuO everyone just picture that for a moment.

And this will be the experience for most new players if they decide to do this against us.

People just assume they will adopt the rare outcome but most of us won't, including newbies. Countless newbies will keep missing out on the rare outcomes, most likely getting more and more frustrated and feeling defeated.

And let's just say we'll get a rare outcome every 3 months, that's four rare monthlies per year. And like I keep saying, most newbies will miss out on the rare outcome, like the rest of us. So maybe they get lucky and adopt one of those four rares one year, so now they gained one rare and added 3 rares to their wishlist that year.

The math doesn't add up. It's going to harm newbies and annoy oldies.

This is a clear case of "the popular opinion is not always the right opinion".
People just hear "we get more rares" and assume we all get one. That's not how rares work.

No, I don't want more rares. There are already enough. Uncommons will eventually become rare over time, and store pets plus event pets usually have some rares. As much as rares in normal litters sound fun- I would not want it to be a regular thing. I don't think that would work well. Featuring a rare during special months could be nice though! One for pride month and one for disabilities awareness month perhaps?

Unfortunately, the more I think on this the less sold I am on it benefitting new players. As others have mentioned, if a new players wants of these rares, and doesn’t get it, they certainly won’t have the fodder to pay what people will inevitably be asking for it, and they likely won’t be involved enough in the trade scene to constantly checking swap threads.

On the objectively lower chance that they do get it, there are three outcomes.
- If they keep it, they have one objectively rarer pet. This is cool but doesn’t ultimately give them that much of a leg up in the trading economy, and is a pretty small impact on the issue of the many other pets they won’t be able to trade for and other rare monthlies they’ll likely miss if they’re not super lucky.
-If they receive an unfair trade for it and don’t know better/they get “ninja’d”, they lose their one rare pet, there is no benefit to them.
The third and probably best option is that they’re aware of the value of what they have, and get a good trade fo a pet they really want. I think this is cool, but it’s not going to be the majority of cases so it seems like a poor solution to a bigger problem.

I’m not sure I’m necessarily opposed to these rarer monthly releases, and I think they could be fun- but the more I think on the “it will help newbies get a leg up” angle the less sold I am on that one specifically.

I agree, I don’t think this would be the wonderful thing a lot of people are envisioning. The use of the August Lion PPS as an example of what this would be is what really turned me off the idea. I have no problem with rares and under in normal litters but not higher than that and not when those rares are pets that would be high demand regardless of rarity. PPS, Lions, Dragons and edited pets have high demand just by exiting, please don’t make them rares in normal litters.

I do love the idea of releasing existing URs throughout the year in normal litters and possibly also having new special releases that wouldn’t count in monthly outcomes.

And a couple of those pets I still don't have/unable to obtain and I was active during that time. Im not sure if I want it that dramatic, but a rare in a mix of omg/ very commons once or twice a year, like the rat litter was kind of neat. They weren't impossible to obtain, but did take some effort to obtain.

As for monthly rare pets, I see that being exhausting.

I support this idea, but I don't assume we'll all get a rare. I just think that trading for them would be fun, and if you are lucky enough to get one in a litter it would be exciting. A lot of people nowadays log on only for events, and nothing else. The site is pretty dead for the rest of the time. Something like this could bring people to log on more often.

I also support the other idea mentioned on this thread to release URs in the same way that Zebras are released, I think that could also help boost activity on the site.

I personally feel okay with that though. I love the idea of the possible excitement if I were to adopt the rare, if I don’t, it’s fine, maybe I’ll get lucky next month? I also like the idea of having reason to log on more to try and trade for them. I feel like CS gets monotonous outside of events - which, I understand some people prefer not feeling like they have to log on all the time - but I am personally interested in finding more reasons to log on and engage, rather than getting bored with the same expectation I always have for each monthly litter.

{ absolutely agree! I usually don't get great RNG so I wouldn't expect to end up with a rare-- but, since I fully support adding rares [only rares though, no VR / ER outcomes please] as special outcomes, I think it would spice up the trade scene in a helpful way. right now I really only trade for rats. it would be a nice "something different" to log on and actually try to trade for. plus, like with the Golden Gacha, I actually did get one and didn't care for it so I just auctioned it off for rats. I'm sure that would happen again. win for everyone c: ♡
{ I do totally love the idea of throwing all URs into the pool like zebras, though! I've never gotten a zebra but knowing that chance exists still keeps things interesting ♡
