I was a college student at the time, with little food in the house and even less motivation (or ability!) to go out and restock. However, there were a few assorted staples I had access to. So, I figured, I may as well see if I can assemble them into some semblance of a meal.
The thoughts in my head at the time were, as far as I can tell, as follows:
- Grilled cheese sandwiches are easy to make.
- Pad thai has a fun combination of flavors, combining peanuts with spice in a way not often seen in American cuisine.
- Despite the fact that they are not usually thought of as compatible, I have in the past combined peanut butter and certain kinds of cheese with unexpected success.
So, of course, I made the Disturbingly Bootleg Pad Thai Pannini by adding sriracha and peanut butter to an otherwise perfectly normal grilled cheese sandwich.
Honestly, it wasn't half bad. Usually, whenever I tell this story (this has happened in a number of discord chats), someone decides to try it for themself and later responds that it was surprisingly good. Nevertheless, its origin and its offputting ingredients list solidly cements it as
dubious at best.
