indentHis body aching with pain, the young tomcat Dmitri, awoke, his brows furrowed as he grimaced, shifting his weight to rise to his feet. He blinked away his sleep, remembering the hazy memories of when he was last awake. He could remember a storm and feeling particularly sleep-deprived... He remembered travelling alone in the dark of night, across a large crop of mountainous territory, before suddenly losing his footing and losing consciousness. It appeared, as he scanned the damp surroundings he had awoken in, that he fell in a pit-like cave of some kind. His blue eyes scanning his surroundings, he tried to find an exit to the large cavern, finding only a thin streak of light that opened at the top of the cave- no way to reach it.

indentHe gave his body a brief shake, his medium-length fur rustled and dirty. He noted a particular sharp pain above his right shoulder blade, which he assumed he had likely hit the stone cave floor with when he fell. He tried to shake off his worried feeling, though alone in these caverns, he felt like he would succumb to the darkness before he could find a way out.

indentDmitri began to walk through the unfamiliar territory, noting the cave seemed to lack to emptiness that he had seen in others he had come across. He saw clover growing over mounds of dirt, and small blackberry bushes growing along
a crop of boulders.

indentAs he continued to walk, he began to grow frustrated by the depth of the trail he was taking. Surely he would have found an exit by now? He released an angry huff.

indent"Are you lost, stranger?" A voice called out.

indentDmitri unsheathed his claws, bracing his body in case he needed to attack. "I mean no harm." He said cooly, trying to avoid a scuffle if he could.

indent"I figured as much. I've been watching you, you see." The voice replied.

indentDmitri bristled, unnerved by the voice, searching for the cat who had spoken, still avoiding his view. A figure then slowly came into view. It was an ancient-looking cat with hairless skin and strange scars across their body. They were a hazy figure, Dmitri could swear he could see right through their faintly-glowing figure... "Who... What are you?"

indent"Who am I doesn't matter. What I am, however, is a cat just like you. I just happen not to share the blood that flows through your veins, only the spirit that carried me through life, and now, death."

indentDmitri tried to hide his fearful expression, his claws raking across the ground. "So, you're a ghost..." He said, his tone speculative.

indent"I prefer the word spirit, but yes, essentially." The spirit said, before hastily continuing. "But that isn't important. You must follow me."

indentScoffing, Dmitri replied, "I don't have to, actually."

indent"Well, of course, you don't, but I've watched you since you fell into these caves. You could choose to come with me, or risk it alone."

indent"I'm scared."

indent"And yet, your heart beats the same hymn." The wispy figure replied, their voice like a whisper of the wind. The ancient glowing feline began to quicken their pace, small-wrinkled paws silent against the limestone cave floor till they reached a sprint, looking so effortlessly agile despite their ancient, elderly body. Dmitri followed the figure of light, trying not to become distracted by the luminescent plants that grew down these seemingly uninhabited caverns. His feet carried him through twisting tunnels within this cave system, and the male began to wonder just how large these caves stretched on. At this point, he feared he would likely die in these caves before finding a way out, due to the secretive and strange nature of the caves, which could more accurately be described as underground worlds.

indentThe fear of being completely alone in these caves pushed the tom to run ever further, his lungs practically on fire as they continued to sprint through the brush, leaping across streams and passing massive crypts filled with sparkling gemstones and plant life. And yet, he had no plan on stopping. Even if his paw pads bled off, he wouldn't. He couldn't.

indentThe sound of rushing water began to be heard, and Dmitri wondered what they were approaching. The large, almost dome-like cave they had been running through began to reach a massive wall, covered in jagged crystals that climbed the rocky wall. If they were to keep running at this pace, they would be impaled or at least seriously harmed by the giant pieces of quartz and celestite.

indent"I don't think this is a smart idea-" Dmitri began to say, before crashing to a halt as they neared the wall. He tried to hide his obvious shock as the ghost-cat continued to sprint, almost running into the cave wall before dropping their body into a low crouch and slipping through a small mouth of a hole that led into a tunnel. Giving the crystals a cautionary stare, the tom slowly weaved his way into the hole, which began to open up after a few hare-steps. As he continued after the spirit-cat, he winced at the now deafening sound of rushing water. He pushed forwards, and he could notice at the end of the tunnel there was another huge cave.

indentAs he made his way out the other side of the tunnel, he felt a spray of mist brush his face, dampening his soft dark brown fur. His mouth gaped as he took in his surroundings. It was almost like a giant sinkhole, an almost perfectly circular cave that had a huge mouth many meters above him, with the moon staring down at the giant pit that spanned even further downwards. There were only a few meters of ledge that separated him from the waters deep below, which he noted glowed a strange blue. He began to walk up to the cat he had been following, who sat on the edge of the rock mantle that kept them from plummeting to their death.

indent"Some fear this place, that we call the pit of spirits." The cat uttered, their voice barely inaudible. "Do you, Dmitri?"

indentDmitri looked over the ledge and down the pit, which spaned many miles beneath and above him. The glowing waters that laid at the bottom were strangely comforting to him. "I don't..." He replied quietly, sounding almost surprised in himself. "The waters.... it feels like they call me."

indentThe spirit cat looked at him, their eyes glowing with an intensity that he had not seen. "He is one of us... he must be the one..." they whispered, seemingly to themselves as they looked away. They turned their head back to Dmitri, staring at him intently. "Dmitri. I have not told you who I am, for I must keep the secrecy of my identity to anyone from the outside.
Only a few cats have entered these caves after our death, all the same story as yours. I believed them to be apart of my divination, though none were as you." Their tone began to become hurried. "You must trust me. I can lead you out of these caves, or I can help you in a way you could never imagine yet. I can't explain it now, but if you trust me, you will gain knowledge and power unlike any other."

indentDmitri hesitated. That was what he wanted, right? To get out of these damn tunnels and return to life as a wandering loner. Right? He felt like that was the easy answer, and yet, it seemed his entire soul was desperately trying to destroy that idea. He released a long breath, lowering his head and closing his eyes. "I trust you." He looked them, his blue eyes blazing with certainty.

indentA smile formed on the spirit's lips. "Then welcome the waters below you, and I vow to you, greatness will follow." With that, the spirit began to disappear into the air, no longer the glowing ghost-like figure it was moments before.

indentDmitri knew it was insane. And yet, he welcomed it. He gave the water a final glance before turning around, backing up to the mouth of the tunnel leading back to the other cave, before running to the ledge, his powerful legs pushing him off the stone. For just a few seconds, he felt like he was flying. And then darkness overtook him.

indentThe tom awoke with a heavy ringing within his ear, and his body felt numb. His squinted, his eyes fluttering open, the brightness nearly blinding him. He was surrounded in blue, and as he attempted to gain an understanding of his surroundings, he realized he was in the water. And yet he felt nothing except warmth. Panicking, he tried to swim, but he was unable to move his body in such a way. He felt like he was floating, yet he stood still.

indent"Calm, Dmitri. You are a spirit now." Said the familiar spirit, their body pushing his to the surface of the water.

indent"I'm dead?" He shouted out, a mixture of both anger, fear, and utter confusion. "

indent"Not for long. Your body needs to heal first, you see. But when you wake up, you will have the lives of eight, not one."

indent"I don't understand..." He said, still shaken.

indent"Oh, but you will." The spirit replied, their voice soft.

indentDmitri tried to open his mouth to respond, but another wave of warmth travelled through his body, and his vision once again began to dot out into darkness.

indentThe tom awoke hazily, as though a fog clouded his brain. His blue eyes squinted as the familiar spray of the waterfall sprinkled his face, and as he slowly peered his eyes open, he saw the large pool of water before him, the same one he had saw at the bottom of the pit. His paws sunk into the grainy sand beneath him, and his claws flexed as he began to recount exactly what happened. Him awakening in a cave, the spirit, the giant land that was hidden in the caves below the ground, the waterfall, him dying. And yet, those were not the only memories he had begun to remember, it was much more, things he knew weren't his own memories. Memories of a clan, of great leaders who worshipped spirits, of caves he had not been through, cats he had never met... the spirit.. he remembered them now, too... the first leader... of Runeclan. Ortrun, that was their name. Yes, Ortrun, that was them... He thought. And yet, these memories that he gained, they were not his own.. it was like someone else had given him their memories.

indent"Your body needs to heal first, you see. But when you wake up, you will have the lives of eight, not one..." Ortrun's words ran through his mind, as though they were once again next to him; whispering to him.

indentAnd suddenly, it all came to him. The reason he survived, was because he was given eight extra lives, each with memories of a different leader of Runeclan. He wasn't just given those lives because the spirit Ortrun trusted him, it was because they believed he would become the next seer of Runeclan. Her divination, her prophecy... it was for a new cat to find the spirits that lay dormant in these caves, and to ignite the flame of Runeclan once again.

Number of Cats: 10 | Next Rainbow Bridge Visit: Now | Pebbles: 45 | Mod: Hazilnut | Mod Notes: No deaths yet please! And instead of death rolls, when the time comes, roll for things like "owners move away" and "became an indoor only cat" please. Cats marked with a "✪" will be immune to leaving rolls. Cats marked with a "Ø" have been spayed/neutered.

Winter was coming to an end, and the sun poured down through a cloudless sky. All of SuburbClan were hanging around camp, sunbathing or sharing tongues.

Angelstar stopped grooming Spookythorn when they heard cats plodding through the woods, approaching camp. The other Clan members heard it too. Most of them stood around uneasily, not knowing what to make of the intruders but not particularly scared, as SuburbClan had no enemies. Squirrelcall, Liontuft, and Bloomwhisker, however, had their hackles raised, low growls escaping from their throats.

Angelstar swished their tail. "Calm down you three, and let me handle it. I'm sure the intruders are just lost or something, we don't need to be hostile."

"Unless they start something," Spookythorn added.

"Unless they start something," Angelstar agreed. The three former LaurelClan cats nodded, and let their fur lie flat, though they glanced around anxiously.

As the two intruders grew closer to camp, Angelstar could hear their conversation.

"Tux, let's turn back. There's so many of them, what if they're violent?"

"We won't get too close, I just want to see. They won't see us at all!"

Angelstar rolled their eyes. They weren't even trying to be stealthy, if SuburbClan was some violent gang these two would be fresh-kill already.

"Let's bring a patrol to meet them. Spookythorn, come with me." Angelstar trotted out of camp with their deputy. It wasn't long before they were face-to-face with the two strangers - a black and white tom and a cream tabby and white molly. The two jumped backwards in surprise.

"Biscuit run! I'll hold them off!" yowled the tom, who must have been Tux.

"I'm not leaving you behind!" replied Biscuit sorrowfully.

"There's no need for all that, we're friendly. Just came over to introduce our Clan," Spookythorn mewed snarkily. "I mean you can leave if you want, but we won't chase you or anything."

The two calmed down some. Tux stepped forward curiously. "Clan?"

Without warning, Angelstar jumped into their monologue about what a Clan is and what SuburbClan is all about. Biscuit and Tux couldn't get a word in, not for lack of trying.

Finally finished, Angelstar ended with, "So what brings you two to SuburbClan territory?"

"Tux and I have been seeing your group of cats coming and going from the woods a lot. We got curious, and wanted to know what was going on," Biscuit replied.

Tux turned to Biscuit. "So now we know. Do you want to go back home now?"

Biscuit shifted her paws awkwardly. "Actually, I'd like to join SuburbClan. I think it sounds like a lot of fun. But only if you join me, Tux."

Tux let out a mock sigh. "Oh dear sister, I'm afraid I can't do that," he mewed sarcastically, then started laughing hysterically. "I was going to ask you the same thing, actually!"

"We'd love to have you!" Angelstar said. "What will your Clan names be?"

"I'll be Tuxleap, because I'm really good at jumping!"

"I want to be Biscuitstripe. I, um, just think my stripes are really pretty."

Angelstar gestured for the two siblings to follow. "Camp is this way! Let's introduce you to everyone!"

"Now, keep your eyes on the finch. Featherpaw?" Squirrelcall followed her apprentice's gaze to a butterfly fluttering nearby. "Pay attention Featherpaw!" she whispered harshly. But it was too late. The finch had finished its business on the ground and flew up into the trees.

"Sorry Squirrelcall. But its not that big a deal, right? Our housefolk has food for us waiting at home," Featherpaw mewed flippantly.

Squirrelcall scowled. "That's not the point. You need to learn to hunt like your ancestors did." In the past moon training her nephew, she'd made no progress at all. Perhaps becoming a kittypet had made him too soft.

Featherpaw sat down and tucked his paws beneath his tail. "Can we stop for today? I'm tired."

"Fine," Squirrelcall sighed. "Let's head back to camp." The two cats padded in silence, thoughts flooding Squirrelcall's head. Featherpaw was an apprentice now, and Bloomwhisker was a warrior. Her nephew and daughter were growing up so fast. She thought back to when she'd first adopted Bloomkit - life seemed so much simpler back then. Now her life had been turned upside down, and her own nephew seemed like a stranger at times.

When the two arrived at camp, Featherpaw ran off to chat with Tigerstrike, and Squirrelcall headed to the leader's den.

"Angelstar? Can we talk?"

"Of course!" The white cat shifted over to make room for the ginger one. "What do you need?"

"I think Featherpaw needs a new mentor," she blurted out. "I've tried pushing him so hard, he won't listen to me."

Angelstar nodded. "He actually came to me a few days ago asking for a new mentor. I told him to give it some more time, but if you feel the same way I can arrange a switch immediately." They paused and thought it over for a bit. "I think Spookythorn would be a better fit. I think Featherpaw needs to work at his own pace, and Spookythorn is very laid back. I'll make it official when everyone gathers back here in the evening."

Squirrelcall left the den, and saw her brother Liontuft sitting along watching the sky. She padded over to him and told him the situation.

"I'm glad you had the self-awareness to know when to ask for a change. Don't beat yourself up about it, okay?"

Squirrelcall nodded. "Everything's so different now, I guess we're all having difficulty adjusting." She paused. "Will we see any of our old Clanmates at the Gathering? I wonder how they're doing."

"I'm glad Angelstar agreed to bring the four of us, so we could look for other survivors of the fire. I can't believe the Gathering is tomorrow already."

Tickstripe paced nervously around the clearing.
“It’ll be okay.” Runningwind assured his father. “Pipersnap knows how to take care of herself. She’ll be back soon.”
“I just can’t believe they got lost.” He hissed, ears flat against his head “I knew sending Jacobintail as the head of the patrol was a bad idea. Some cats just shouldn’t be put in leadership positions.”
“It’s not his fault.” Runningwind objected “It was a sheet of snow out there. It’s a miracle everyone else came back unscathed.” Tickstripe sighed and plopped down on his haunches. He looked to the sky, where a few flakes of snow drifted lazily down from deep grey clouds.
“I just pray to StarClan that she’s safe.” He mused “Pipersnap means everything to me. She has to come back…”

Pipersnap shivered and pressed herself closer to the longfurred toms in the cave beside her. Cougarpounce’s thick pelt was bushed out, enveloping the smaller she-cat in warmth. Cottonfluff’s fur wasn’t exactly as dense as his clanmate’s, but he was tufted and had some volume on his body. The two toms had agreed to surround Pipersnap as best they could, seeing as her fur was short and coarse.
“It’s so cold.” She huffed, teeth chattering. The coldness of the stone was seeping into her joints. She thought back to when she was younger, and she would actively trudge through the snow and see how long she could go before her toes were numb. But now she would give anything to go back to the warmth of camp, huddled up against her mate.
“I hope everyone in camp is alright.” Cottonfluff meowed. His mind traveled to Saskatoonskip. He hoped she was worried about him. He shook his head slightly. No, he hoped she was okay. He didn’t want her to be in pain, but he desperately wanted her to acknowledge him and show that his feelings might be reciprocated. Saskatoonskip was a quiet cat, no doubt, but she always seemed to perk up while around Cottonfluff. He hoped that this meant she felt something towards him. He hoped it meant he wasn’t wasting his time on being totally head over paws in love with her.

Thistlewing stretched out a leg, trying to get rid of a knot that clumped around her thigh. Her belly was swollen and sometimes she just felt like lying on her side with her head flopped on the ground.
“My neck hurts.” She whined, causing Ashtail to laugh.
“Yes, that happens.” He advised his daughter “Your mother would demand that I rub her shoulders whenever you and your brother got too rowdy in there.” He paused for a moment, then continued. “I can’t believe I’m going to become a grandfather.” He laughed “It seems like just last moon you and your brother were taking your first steps.” Thistlewing smiled. She knew her father was blind, but she didn’t allow herself to show just how much she was missing Fallenwing. She knew he was bad, she did. But she still felt a gaping hole in her heart. Her brother should be here. Fallenwing should have been able to see his nieces and nephews. But he was in the dark forest forever, now. And she was alone. Thistlewing shook her head gently. No. She wasn’t alone. She had her father and Falconfeather. Her mate had done so much to console her in the moons after the battle. She was finally stable thanks to him, and just in time. Every morning, she could feel the kits in her belly becoming more and more restless.
“When did Pumpkinseed say you were due, again?” Ashtail meowed.
“Any day now.” The queen sighed, pushing herself up onto her elbows. Her belly was rippling with light pain. She didn’t know what that meant, but it wasn’t horrible. Maplechirp and Ratwhisker told her there was nothing to worry about; it just meant she was getting close. And she didn’t know how true that was. By moon-high that night, Thistlewing was getting ready to welcome her children into the world.

─ Last Moon ─

Jeweleyes felt pride as she took her nest out of the apprentice dens. It was time to pick a den for herself, up higher with the other Hunters and Guardians. She had dreamed of this moment, casually asking Lakedream if she could share his den. She knew that he was sharing his den with his family, so it wouldn't be just them alone. She wasn't sure if she was relived for a bit disappointed that they wouldn't be alone.
Nerves aside, she trotted up to Lakedream with her nest. She set down the ball of moss and smiled. "Good evening, Lakedream." She muttered, gulping.
"Hiya, Jewelpaw- I mean Jeweleyes! It's so great you're a hunter now, huh?" He purred with excitement for his friend.
She nodded slowly. "Yeah, o-of course." She started to feel her shy side take over, wanting to run away from having to tell him how she felt.
"Have you picked out your new den yet? It was easy for me, since I've got my dad and sister insisting on me joining their den." He rambled, chuckling lightly.
'This is my chance to ask!' "Actually, about that... I was wondering if, uh, um..." She could feel Lakedream's curious eyes staring her down as she managed to cough up the words. "Would I be able to share dens with you?" She finally spat out quickly, feeling a bit surprised that the words actually came out.
Lakedream was taken back a bit, but he smiled. "Why of course! You want your nest next to Olivegaze's? She's in the nursery right now with her kits, but I'm sure she'd love to have a nest mate." He offered.
She sighed slowly. 'He doesn't get it...' "I actually want my nest next to... your's." She started, taking a breath and staring him in the eyes. "I really like you, Lakedream. I have for a while. I was wondering if you could... feel the same about me."
Lakedream stayed quiet for a moment, just staring. He looked Jeweleyes in the eyes, smiling slowly. "I'll be honest, Jewel. I care about you a lot, you've always been there for me cheering me on. I've never thought anything about stronger feelings..." He started, but purred. "But thinking about being close to you... Well, that does make me happy." He admitted, taking Jeweleye's nest and placing it next to his own. The two settled into their nests, relaxing in a sweet silence that comforted the both of them.

─ This Moon ─

Faunawisp smiled as she helped her sister groom the curly-coated kits. The squirmed and fought with her, making her giggle a bit. "So, how has it been being a queen? You getting along with the other mothers?" She asked casually.
Florasong frowned a bit. "I really like Garnetfur and Sugarbreeze, but Matchawish seems to not really like me and Olivegaze doesn't talk to anyone." She complained.
She sighed, feeling a bit troubled. "Olivegaze is a bit... reserved. And Matchawish will warm up to you, she's very kind hearted."
The lilac she-cat rolled her eyes. "Yeah, she's nice to you. Everyone always likes you more." She whined.
Faunawisp was done with the subject. "How are the kits? I've noticed Ramkit, Lagoonkit, and Oysterkit get along pretty well." She moved on casually.
"Woolykit and Mammothkit are inseparable! They have to do everything together, wouldn't be a surprise if they both choose the same rank to stay with each other. And Ramkit is like a mini chieftain, he's always leading games with all his friends." She cheered, licking at Mammothkit's tangled curls. She bit out a knot, smoothing it down with her tongue.
Faunawisp smiled wide. She knew her sister had a lot of issues, especially when it came to toms. She was just happy that at least she could tell that Florasong without a doubt loved her kits.
"Momma, can we go play with Foampelt now?" Woolykit asked politely. Mammothkit had a wide smile on his face, excitement seen in his twitching tail.
Florasong nodded slowly. "As long as he isn't busy." She watched the three kits dash off to find the grey tom.
Faunawisp watched as well, curious. "Do they know he's not their father?" She questioned.
"I never told them that he is, he never told them that either. He just is very kind and caring towards them, I'm glad they have him to look up to." She answered.
"Why not take him as your actual mate? You know he has strong feelings for you, and he loves your kits just as much it seems."
Florasong shook her head. "I don't think he could handle me. I'm happy with how things are now, I don't expect anything out of him and he doesn't expect me to love him. It's just a mutual flow of give and take without any labels on it."
The chieftess nodded, understanding a bit. "You know, for a crazy she-cat, that's pretty wise and mature of you." She complimented. At the moment, Fauanwisp felt actually close with her sister despite the drama for the past moons. It almost feels like it hadn't happeend. 'Maybe she's finally getting over her feelings for Jasmine... Or she's accepted that he only loves me.'
