Mod Notes: I’ll usually specify if I don’t want them to mate so you’re fine ^^. I love this game so much. I guess I never realized how much I like these animals! Also, since there’s no food system, I’m changing foragers to ‘guards’. They stay behind in camp to protect it, but don’t actually fight any battles unless absolutely necessary. I hope that’s alright!

Isaac trotted down the path that his patrol took place on. He was alone, but he didn’t mind it. He was a fairly large buck, so predators would have a hard time taking him down without a fight. A large boulder came into his view and he sighed. It reminded him of the boulder he used to play around with his siblings. Oh, his dear siblings. His older brother and younger sister were his life. But then the storm happened. And he got separated. An idea sprung into the deer’s head. Isaac would speak to Abraham about trying to track them down. Maybe not today, are next moon. But eventually. He would make it his mission to find his family. And nothing could stop him.

"What should we name her?" Oak asked softly. The new parents were settled into their nests, their daughter, a tiny brown foal with a white stripe running along her muzzle, was between them, lying with her eyes shut. Nests in the cave were rarely used, with exception to the nursery area, as most of the ungulate was horses, who preferred to sleep standing. But with a new foal, well, until she got used to running or walking or...standing, she and her parents would be sleeping in their nests.

It hurt to have to drag Oak away. Rowan had been delaying as much as he could, but they'd have to go and investigate the coyote sounds soon, if they wanted to keep the young one safe. "I was thinking Amaranth." Wysteria replied, running her muzzle through the young filly's short mane. "Immortality." Yellow Chrysanthemum said, lifting her head in their direction. The Thoroughbred had been messing with her herbs all moon, but apparently the naming of the foal she'd helped deliver was one way to get her attention. "Amaranth is the symbol of longevity, the flower that never fades."

Wysteria smiled "I like that, I believe it will fit her. She'll be much safer here than if we still lived on our own, without a herd." Rowan nodded "And speaking of safety, Oak, it's time." the fallow deer spoke sadly, but Oak nodded, getting to his hooves quickly "Of course. Keeping the ungulate safe is part of a guard's job after all."

weather. the sun shines at a nearly constant rate, heating the pelts of the animals that graze. water is still abundant, especially in rivers and lakes, though streams are beginning to shrink, threatening to dry up soon if the heat persists. grass is beginning to dry out, though is still enough to provide nourishment for the ungulates. rogue groups, humans, and predators are more abundant, so watch out !!

[ rowan and oak are attacked by the coyotes and forced to fight; luckily, there were only two emaciated coyotes and the members of the ungulate were able to successfully chase them off. oak has received a scar on his shoulder from the coyotes, and rowan's ear was torn slightly, though the pair otherwise made it out of the battle unscathed. ]
[ balsamine and thistle come across a rather odd llama while patrolling; the llama claims that this is their land! what does the patrol do? ]
[ thistle has learned the tracking skill ]
[ chrysanthemum's guard was uneventful ]
[ chrysanthemum finds x1 stick and x1 chervil. the forest must appreciate the help, for in the undergrowth, chrysanthemum finds a skinny horse foal, not yet weaned. upon further inspection, chrysanthemum finds traces of blood on the ground nearby, and evidence of a scuffle. it seems as if the foal's mother was killed. does chrysanthemum take the foal back to the ungulate, where, perhaps, wysteria might choose to care for it, or does chrysanthemum leave the foal? ]

Aaron walked down the sandy beach of the island. He was patrolling along side Heath, the General and his new ungulatemate. The two didn’t speak. Heath was a bulky, muscular, proud-looking creature. He walked with his head and tail high and chest out, with a straight back and antlers clawing at the sky. His pelt was also the bearer of a good amount of scars. Aaron gave a small smile. No wonder he was the general. He had obviously been the victor of many fights. But one stood out, a claw mark on his neck. It looked as if a predator had clamped its jaws around the deer’s neck. ‘Interesting’ Aaron thought, pulling his gaze from the buck and continuing walking. Suddenly, they approached what seemed like a hunk of metal. The two males looked at eachother and investigated, walking further along the shoreline. The rounded a corner and were met by an enormous ship, with a hole blown into the side of it and metal containers spilling out. The containers had gleaming white bars that made up the container. The door hung open on several of them, the other ones, empty as well. Aaron moved closer and Heath went into the ship, trying to find something inside. Probably a stupid idea, but courageous nonetheless. Aaron sniffed the containers, trying to identify what had been kept there. The scent he picked up was familiar, yet foreign. It smelled like the ungulate, smelled like Heath, and Isaac ,and Nika, and Abraham. But it was different. It seemed to be missing the fresh, wild scent that went along with it. It was much more dull, almost like the animals hadn’t come from the wild. A thought flickered into the antelope’s head. Abraham had spoken of non-wild, deer-like animals, but without antlers and with bigger bodies and longer hair. Horses! That’s what it was! Horses were being transported on the ship, and were now most likely roaming their island. Worry and excitement grew inside him. “Heath!” He called. The buck’s red head poked through the side of the ship. “What is it? Is there trouble?” He asked quickly. “Not here, but there might be.” Aaron responded out, gesturing at the crates “Horses. On the island. They have no idea how to survive in this environment. We should go help them.” Heath shook his head. “We shouldn’t bring weak animals into our group. It could hurt us.” He pointed out. “But what if,” Aaron rebutted “they horses form their own group. And they become stronger and stronger until they come and try to take over our land. Wouldn’t it be better to take them as our own?” Heath paused for a moment, clearly thinking. After several heartbeats, he nodded. “Ok. But if they’re cowards, we’re leaving them to fend for themselves.”

[Aaron and Heath patrol. They find open crates with hoofprints leading out of them. The two follow the trail hoping to find the horses that came from the crates.]

It had been quite surprising to find the Llama on their patrol. Balsamine had quickly sent Thistle racing back towards camp, to fetch Rowan, while she distracted the brown creature. The Fallow Deer had come running, and within a few words convinced the Llama, Amaryllis, to join the Forestkeepers, at least for a few moons. Since sharing territory would end up more rewarding than hoarding it. Amaryllis, a rather prideful creature, had bought it.

They led her back into the cave, Rowan muttering about expansions the whole way, only to find Wysteria, Oak, and Yellow Chrysanthemum whispering over a sleeping filly that was most definitely not Amaranth, for the foal born last moon was blinking at the newcomer with wide brown eyes.

"Who is this?" Rowan asked, looking quite concerned. Yellow Chrysanthemum looked up at him sadly "I found her in the forest while tending to it, there was coyote-scent all around, and the blood..." she shook her head and was silent for a heart-beat before continuing. "I believe her mother was killed by the coyotes Rowan and Oak chased off."

Rowan lowered his head slightly, and then said "Then we shall care for her. Does she have a name?" Yellow Chrysanthemum smiled slightly "I've been calling her Sweetpea. The name means Gratitude. I believe her mother would be quite grateful for us keeping her child safe."

Sweetpea had been slowly recovering from the state she'd been found in. She and Amaranth now raced around the now quite-cramped cave, and found mischief in getting into Yellow Chrysanthemum's herb stores.

Rowan led Oak and Amaryllis outside of the camp, and showed them his plans for expanding the cave. "We'll need to work on it soon, if we get any more members the camp will be too full for us all to live in." his current expansion plan was to take advantage of the fallen trees, and push them around the opening to the cave. The stone part could be the new nursery and medicine den, and the guards and scouts could sleep in the wooden area, protecting the more valuable members .

Wysteria and Thistle don't do any heavy lifting, but they clear out the space for the new expansion. The others move fallen logs in order to make a large tent-like structure around the cave opening.

[ the trail of hoofprints leads aaron and heath to a pair of horses, a stallion and a mare. the mare is rather haughty and well-groomed, claiming that she had been on her way to a dressage competition, whatever that means, when the ship crashed. the stallion seems rather hostile, choosing to protect the mare, though after he finds that aaron and heath are no threat, he calms down. he explains that they are willing to join the lost souls, but that there is a third horse who went ahead to scout; do aaron and heath trust the stallion and look for the third horse? ]
[ isaac and abraham hear sounds of a struggle from the brush; upon further investigation, they find a lanky zebra foal, struggling to rise onto unsteady legs. there is no sign of a mother. the foal seems to be about two moons old; do they take the foal in, and perhaps see if flicker will care for the orphan, or do they leave it there, in case the mother returns? ]

[ after a moon or so, amaryllis had settled into the ungulate quite well, if she dared say so herself. though she still claimed that "she was only staying because of the food," she had seemed to take a liking to the members of the ungulate. ]
[ balsamine and thistle discover a piebald white-tailed deer doe, whose foreleg is caught in a snarl of thorns; do balsamine and thistle choose to help her? if so, she may choose to repay them by joining the ungulate. ]

[ salto de venado finds two male okapis; however, they seem to be arguing fiercely. at the sight of the patrol from the ungulate, though, they pause, seeming wary of the new arrivals. perhaps if the ungulate offered them something, they might consider joining? and, perhaps, they'll stop bickering. ]

Ram nodded to Stream, heading to where he announced the happenings in the Ungulate. "Everyone, I have a few announcements. Peach is expecting, so don't make her job harder on her. Also, Stream has told me that they are Non-Binary, so respect their pronouns please." Ram bellowed. Trout nudged his Ayudante affectionately, and Rock laughed. Alder nudged Peach humorously, and Sunny danced around Stream happily. Peach giggled, and did a little hug-move with Alder. "Congrats Stream." She whispered, and Stream nodded. "Congrats to you too, Peach."

Greenleaf: the sun blazes brightly in the sky with little cloud cover. The larger bodies of water continue to remain full, however streams, brooks, and smaller rivers threaten to shrink into nonexistence. The heat drives predators towards shade, so forest ungulates beware. Ungulates that live with little shade are at risk of catching a fever if they leave during the midday heat.

The horse's raven hooves were starting to drag on the ground by the time they reached someplace that felt safe. There were no doors on the old two-leg building to keep them from entering, and they did so slowly. Letting out a low whinny to be sure it was empty, the only echo that returned to them was that of their own cry.

All but collapsing onto the stone ground, the brown and white horse lay there, gasping for breath. They'd been traveling for moons, or...had it been seasons? It was easy to lose track of time by ones self. The horse lifted their head upwards, and peered more closely at their surroundings. It was definitely an old twoleg building, but...why was it so empty?

A while later, the horse got to their feet. The whole reason they had been traveling, their entire purpose, had been to find someplace safe to settle down and form an Ungulate. Perhaps...just perhaps, this could be that place.

ixxx▬jaeger's nostrils flared as he dipped his head low, tugging up loose grass from where it sprouted between the floorboards of the remnants of the church. there was a warmth in the air, and the dust swirling up from where his hooves brushed the wood was glowing with the sunlight that filtered between the slats that built the foundation of the chapel.
