TumbleClan
"All will fall in it's place..."
Number of Cats: 27 | Males: 11 | Females: 16 [/b]
"Is everyone here?"Sagestar yowled, addressing the cats before him. It was time to leave his home, his Clan's home, the place that they had thrived in for moons. But they had no choice, Russetleaf was their top priority. With a long sigh, the tired leader turned to Swanfoot. "Swanfoot, could you go check the dens and dirtplace? We can't leave anyone behind," he asked. Swanfoot eyes flashed with annoyance at being assigned the task, but she quickly covered it up with a nod of understanding. "Why of course, dear," she meowed silkily, before gracefully trotting away. I'm so lucky to have a mate as supportive as Swanfoot he thought, hope building inside of him. But as Sagestar gazed out upon his ragged, tired, defeated Clan, the leader realized that this journey would be the hardest thing he had ever asked of TumbleClan. He had his doubts that they would survive. "The dens are all clear, Sagestar," Swanfoot mewed, returning from her quick check around the camp. Sagestar couldn't bring himself to reply, his thoughts too muddled to even speak. "Sagestar?" the deputy cooed, her voice filled with false concern. Snap out of it, you mouse-brain! Sagestar thought to himself, before facing his mate. "Swanfoot, what if we don't find her?" he asked, his voice hollow and empty. "Don't say that, Sagestar," she replied, resting her tail on his back comfortingly. Sagestar took a breath, forcing himself to stand tall and proud. "Cats of TumbleClan. It is time for our quest to find Russetleaf. For without her, we have no cats with medicine experience," the leader's voice shook as he announced it, but he ignored it. "That's idiotic! You're risking all our lives for one cat. Why can't you just go to the moonpool and ask for a medicine cat!" Bleakpelt shouted. There were a few cheers after his words, from Rosefur and Burrwhisker. "Don't be such a fox-heart! Russetleaf is our clanmate, and we are warriors. We must do everything we can to find her, and bring her back!" shouted Foxtail. The majority of the cats yowled their agreement. "Have you all got bees in your brain? This is the most ridiculous thing Sagestar has ever done! We'll all be killed!" Burrwhisker exclaimed. "SHUT UP! ALL OF YOU!" Swanfoot demanded, her powerful voice silencing the Clan. "If you don't want to come with us, then you can leave the Clan," she stated bluntly. Sagestar shot her a sideways glance. That's not for her to decide... but then again, she is the deputy. The three rebellious cats remained silent, though their eyes were filled with sadness and fury. "That's what I thought," Swanfoot snapped. She turned to look at Sagestar, her blue and green eyes blazing. "You ready?" she asked. He nodded. "Cats of TumbleCla-" he began, but he was cut off by Stonestorm who had stepped forward from the mass of cats. "I'm staying here with Brightwhisker," he said. Silence fell over the assembled cats, everyone too shocked to form words. "Y-your staying?" Sagestar's voice was laced with disbelief. Brightwhisker nodded. "We're ancient, Sagestar. We'd just slow everyone down," she explained, her eyes gleaming with sadness. "That's not true!" Sagestar shouted, but Swanfoot interjected. "They are our elders, Sagestar. If this is what they want, there is no use in arguing," she meowed. Sighing, the leader nodded in defeat. His stomach clenched with worry at the idea of the elders trying to survive on their own, but if that is what they desired then he would not fight it. "Well then, it is time to go," Sagestar announced. He rose to his paws, leading the Clan to the camp entrance. He stopped to look out on the camp one last time. The camp where his Clan has grown from one cat to dozens. The leader forced himself to tear his gaze away, and he left the camp, each pawstep weighed with uncertainty and fear, but also hope.
Sagestar was exhausted. He thought he had been exhausted before, during trips to the moonpool and after battles and such, but this was an exhaustion that he had never felt before. His paws felt like they were made of boulders. His entire body ached, all he wanted to do was collapse to the ground and sleep. Glancing behind him, he saw that the rest of the Clan looked as he felt. "Sagestar, I think it's time to stop for the night," Swanfoot forced out between pants. Sagestar looked over to his pregnant mate, and felt a rush of horror. Great StarClan! She's probably exhausted, what with carrying kits during this. I'm so selfish! "Of course, of course. We'll stop here for the night," Sagestar announced to the Clan. The cats were all relieved as they settled down under bushes and trees, not bothering to build comfortable nests to sleep in. After a while, Sagestar was pretty sure he was the only one left awake. He was too anxious to sleep, despite what his body was telling him. He was also wary of the Banished Lands. They were on an open field with little shelter, but there were a few trees and bushes scattered around. A large stream babbled several fox-lengths away, the sound of water soothing. Eventually, Sagestar finally managed to fall asleep.
Swanfoot stood over her sleeping mate, ambition coursing through her. She wanted to rip away the soft-hearted leader's seven remaining lives right then and there, but she managed to stop herself. I need some accomplices. Some strong cats who can help me with some plans. Glancing around the sleeping cats, her gaze rested on Ashstripe. The young cat certainly seemed to trust her, and he could certainly be manipulated into helping her. But that would all come later. For now, it was time to manipulate the entire Clan. The pregnant she-cat knew what sage looked and smelled like, and it didn't take her long to find it growing at the base of a large, grassy hill. She grabbed a bundle of the green leaves in her jaws and brought them back to the temporary camp. Then, she unsheathed her claws and before she could convince herself not to, sliced a gash in her left forepaw. She winced as the pain hit her, but didn't make a sound. The deputy then shook her blood over the sage, smiling through the throbbing in her paw. Once she was satisfied with her doings, she washed her paws in the river and limped back to her spot next to Sagestar to sleep.
Swanfoot woke up after most of the other cats due to her midnight excursion, but she had the pregnancy excuse on her side so no-cat seemed to care. She felt a rush of pleasure to see the majority of the Clan crowded around her little setup. "It's a sign from StarClan," some cat meowed. "It has to be." Swanfoot padded over, feigning surprise. "What is going on here?" she asked innocently. She gasped when the crowd parted to allow the deputy to see the bloodied sage leaves. "Great StarClan! It reeks of my blood!" she looked down at the gash on her paw, suppressing a shudder at the memory of cutting herself. "I woke up with this, I'm not sure where it came from," Swanfoot lied, rejoicing in the concerned glances she received from her clanmates. "Let me look at it," Volepaw meowed shyly, stepping forward. Swanfoot held out her paw for the cat to inspect. "There's sage between your claws," the apprentice said softly, looking up at her after a while. The deputy wasn't sure how to respond to this, she had been certain that the river would have washed away any trace of sage. "You did this, didn't you!" Volepaw exclaimed, his eyes widening with fear and shock. "Everyone thinks Sagestar is going to do something terrible to you, but it's all fake!" the apprentice suddenly looked terrified with himself for speaking out against the deputy, and he shrunk back in his fur. Swanfoot growled. "If you tell a soul, I will dump your dead body in the river," she spat menacingly. Without another word, she sped back to the crowd. "Sagestar, are you going to... hurt me?" Swanfoot asked, making her eyes wide and fearful as she gazed at her mate. Sagestar's eyes widened in desperation. "No! Of course not! I would never-" but Swanfoot held up her tail to cut him off. "I believe you. Maybe it's a sign for the dark forest, sent just to mess with us," she said. But she said it quietly, into Sagestar's ear so the rest of the Clan wouldn't hear. She wanted Sagestar to trust her, but she didn't want the rest of the Clan to trust him.
