Something was wrong. And it wasn't just with the camp that Shiningclan had called home for so long - Starclan was uneasy, and Timberleaf was jumpy. Scorchstar was very confused, wondering what had the young medicine cat so anxious, though he wasn't able to get much out of him after he delivered the prophecy to Scorchstar. Perhaps it was the unknown aspect of what Starclan had given, or maybe it was just the thought that preparations were being made to leave this abandoned Twoleg den and find somewhere else to call home. Since Scorchstar had lost a life to his den collapsing, he made the decision that he didn't want to take risks. He was meeting with his 'small council' soon - waiting to ask their opinions on leaving. It wasn't even a matter of 'if' they should leave, but 'when.' Really, just wanted to hear the other's opinions.

That was why Scorchstar had Cricketheart, Timberleaf, Firesong, Birchstorm, and Appleclaw in his den, waiting to discuss wha they should do. His most trusted cats. He thought about including Slatefang, but she had just given birth to her own family of cats; she was in the nursery with her two kits she named Swiftkit and Shrikekit, though she refused to tell anyone who the father was. Scorchstar felt bad that she seemed to be so alone with no mate to support her, but he was trying to understand and respect her decision to not tell anyone. He trusted Maplecloud and Turtlegaze to give her a good support system, should she need it, or need a break from her kits as they get more rambunctious. They were quite cute, Scorchstar thought - some of the cutest kits the clan had ever seen. He might be biased, but he didn't really mind. Slatefang herself had been a cute kit, he recalled, though thinking about his kids as kits sent a pang of sadness through his heart as he thought about Sparkstorm, gone too soon. Perhaps that was what made him more protective over Slatefang, Swiftkit, and Shrikekit, but he had never said it out loud.

The small gathering of cats were mumbling quietly to each other, each waiting for Scorchstar to begin and not sure if they should start a real conversation. The gray leader gave all the cats a quick nod, signalling the start of the meeting, before he began. "Alright, I'm pretty sure you all know why we are here." He said, looking around for confirmation from each cat. All but Timberleaf nodded, but the medicine cat seemed to be thinking of something else. "We need to figure out how and when to move our clan somewhere else. Somewhere safer; both internally safer than this Twoleg nest that seems to be falling apart, and territorially safer - we all know that Twolegs and their dogs have been coming closer, which can be a big problem." Again, each cat nodded, though no conversation broke out. Good. "Any ideas?" He finished, looking expectantly around the circle.

Cricketheart was the first to speak, getting to his feet and glancing around at the other cats. "We should stay in a forest area. I don't think the clan will be able to handle a different terrain for hunting or battling." Scorchstar nodded, thinking the same thing earlier, and looked around for another cat to pitch in a thought.
"We should wait until all of the kits are grown enough to be strong for the trip." It was Timberleaf, to Scorchstar's surprise, that suggested it. "They don't necessarily have to be apprentices, but they need a couple of moons to be able to move freely and not weight their mothers down. Hopefully we don't get any new kits between then, but waiting a couple moons would be in our best interest."
More murmurs of agreement around the circle of cats. "Yes. I suppose we will postpone talk of movement for a couple of moons; I will give Dustkit, Swiftkit, and Shrikekit more time to mature before we think about moving. In the meantime, I would like border patrols to be assigned to searching a bit outside the territory; but only the strongest and most level headed will be trusted on these patrols at all. That is all I had thought - you are all dismissed."
As the cats filed out, Scorchstar remained in his new den, taking a look around at the foreign sleeping area he had moved to. He could only hope that the walls of this dilapidated camp remained stable for another two moons while they waited for every cat to be strong.

The cats not in the meeting with Scorchstar were hanging out, or getting ready to disperse on patrols. The hunters talked amiably, starting to set out one patrol at a time. All cats but one seemed to be excited about the prospect of a new life that Scorchstar had told them about, even though they were sad to leave this life they had known behind. And that last cat seemed to have something up their sleeve... and one cat seemed to be unable to return from the hunting patrol they had so eagerly set out on, unbeknownst to the rest of the cats on the patrols... A new investigation was soon going to be starting in Shiningclan - the attempt to figure out the star of the prophecy Starclan warned about; the wolf in cat's clothing that was living among them and starting to pick off warriors of the clan.

Greenleaf- Two young warriors excitedly dart ahead of their patrol, eager to find any new sights before the older warriors. To their shock, they noticed that Twolegs were sitting out in groups in areas just past the Clan's territory. Even though the Twolegs aren't on the Clan's territory, it would still be a good idea to keep out for them and their dogs. The sun is beating down heavily so the Twolegs and their dogs might not stay out all day, but that will also mean the Clan cats won't stay out long either.

Wheezing in the sun, Lionpaw stared anxiously at Lotuspaw; He'd made the ill-timed choice to laugh at the ginger tabby when he came tumbling down the statue, and he was paying for it in full. ''I said sorry.'' Lionpaw mewed nasally. ''Could you stop staring at me?'' Lionpaw blinked slowly, shame prickling through his fur. ''...S-sorry.'' The Persian mumbled. He could never get anything right, could he? He had been wrong since birth and wrong he'd remain until the very end of time.

Maybe then Lionpaw would forgive himself.

''Shut up, Flatface.'' Lotuspaw grumbled, humiliation burning in the tips of his ears; He had fallen so far and so hard, and now he was going to be falling behind his den-mates. Even Camelpaw would be catching up soon, and Lotuspaw was uncertain if he could bear to see Camelpaw's smug face after this. Tail twitching, Lotuspaw looked away from Lionpaw and sighed miserably. What would his mother say? Lotuspaw didn't know. It was hard to say whether she'd be proud of him or look down on him. And yet more than ever, Lotuspaw wanted to truthfully know what kind of son he had been. Had he made her last few moons bliss? Or a curse? Lotuspaw was heartbroken to say that he would never know. ''...Hey, Flatface?''

Lionpaw looked up, blinking in surprise. ''Y-yeah?'' The pale-ginger tom mumbled, tilting his head.

Steeling himself, the ginger tabby dipped his head respectfully. ''Sorry for bullying you.'' Lotuspaw coughed, ears twitching. ''Your name is Lionpaw, not Flatface.'' A rather unfitting name, Lotuspaw believed, for such a timid and bug-eyed tomcat but nevertheless it was the same that Lionpaw's mother had given him, and if she had passed much like his own mother, then he'd respect her wishes. ''...Who's your mentor?'' Lotuspaw quirked his brow, not recalling an apprenticeship ceremony.

Smiling gratefully, Lionpaw let out a rumble of joy - Like thunder across a dark sky. ''Thank you.'' Lionpaw whispered, tail coiling around his paws as he quietly dug his paws into the golden sand; It was instinctive thing, Lionpaw mused, for him to try and bury himself in the sand whenever someone spared him the littlest scrap of kindness. It was also instinctive for him to forgive the other immediately, like a starving dog setting upon an old bone. ''And it's Jackalflower, but she's out now...looking for a lark?'' Lionpaw murmured, squinting as he tried to recall. ''Must be an important lark if the leader and deputy are looking for it.''

''...Are you an idiot?'' Lotuspaw remarked after a few moments of silence. ''They're probably looking for Larkpaw, she goes missing all the time.'' The ginger tabby rolled his eyes, picking the sand from between his toes. ''Drove mom crazy, but don't worry, she always comes back.'' Lotuspaw promised, with an easy-going smile. ''Probably got lost in the temple again.''

''Or got eaten.'' Acaciathorn chimed in, prickly tail coiling in fear. ''I wouldn't put it past Larkpaw to encounter something dangerous.'' The brown tabby swallowed, choking on her brother's name. ''You two better watch out, there's things out there.'' And not all of them looked scary, or obvious. After-all? Who would suspect their lovely, cheerful clan-mate?

Lotuspaw shook his head adamantly, noticing that Lionpaw was starting to get nervous. “Nah, I know Larkpaw will be okay...” The ginger tabby nodded, certain that whatever powers there may be, he would be able to keep his little family alive. He had failed his mother once, but he wasn’t going to fail his sisters too. “She’s not that frail.” The ginger tabby glared pointedly at Acaciathorn. ''Stop being so gloomy all the time, geez, why'd Cannastar ever let you join?'' Aside from the fact that she was a skillful hunter and a good head on her shoulders, there was little to be desired from such a sour cat.

Before the warrior could reply, the soft sigh of sand announced the patrol's miserable return. Their silence was damning, paws shuffling to the center of camp before they sank low to the earth - Clearly, they bore no good news. ''Cannastar?'' Oryxthroat's voice was so soft, so scared. ''How did she die?'' The queen knew Larkpaw would die eventually, they all did - She just didn't think she'd have to be the one to bury her when it should've been the other way round. ''Spare no detail.'' She did not want his pity.

''She was eaten, we could not return her body.'' Cannastar murmured, his voice soft and low. ''I think a jackal got to her.'' The ginger tabby frowned, tail whipping back and forth - He had felt off about Larkpaw's death, like there was something he was missing. ''We're not sure, Oryxthroat, but I can assure you it was a painless death.'' Squeezing his eyes shut, Cannastar sighed and rested his head against the grey queen's shoulder. ''She wouldn't have suffered, Oryxthroat, she's with Stonekit and Pebblekit now.''

Nodding, Oryxthroat leaned quietly against Cannastar and stared into the bright blue - Larkpaw was somewhere where she would no longer have to suffer, with her other siblings to play with. As much as her heart ached, Orxythroat knew better than to deny it had happened, nodding quietly. ''I'll break the news to Lotuspaw and Shrikepaw.'' The grey queen bowed her head respectfully, her pale eyes sweeping slowly over the desert. Her kits were waiting for her, watching nervously as Oryxthroat bore no smile to see them alive and well. ''...Come here.'' Her voice was soft, following them into the shadow of the ruined temple.

''Let me tell you about a story.''

Nobody spoke, hiding from the sun's yellow glare. The two newest warriors, Papyruspath and Scorpionstep, hovered restlessly at the camp's fringes - They understood nothing of what had been spoken, whispering in low-tones to each other. They were as quiet as mice and as strange as ghosts, huddled close together. ''Are you sure this is a safe place to be?'' Murmured Scorpionstep, glancing nervously at the GoldClan warriors, her yellow eyes flickering furtively around. ''An apprentice died!'' The dark molly hissed under her breath, the fur on her neck bristling. Something felt off about this place, Scorpionstep sensed. And it wasn't the voices in her head this time.

''Yeah, an apprentice died.'' The skinny tom replied, with a cold matter-of-fact tone. ''But we're warriors, we know what we're doing.'' Papyruspath reasoned, slowly lifting up a paw and dragging it over his ears in steady strokes. From what he had known, Larkpaw was a young and inexperienced molly, but they? They were hardened warriors, and they had been through trial by fire plenty of times. ''Cheer up, Scorpionstep, we're safe now.'' Papyruspath sighed, nuzzling up against Scorpionstep. ''Take a deep breath.''

Birchwhisker followed an ecstatic Honeypaw back into camp. Her news of him passing his warrior assessment sent him barreling back to the cabin…probably to tell Maplepaw first, Birchwhisker smiled to herself. She could tell the two were starting to grow fond of each other. She closed her eyes in relief when the camp entrance came into view; she thought she was back in shape after training an apprentice for six moons, but a full-out sprint proved she still had room for improvement. Honeypaw had stopped in his tracks, causing Birchwhisker to ram into him pushing back the overgrown ferns. She grunted in surprise and pushed him forward sending him sprawling. “Sorry,” She pulled him up by his scruff. “Wasn’t expecting to run into a distracted furball.”
“No, I-I’m sorry.” Honeypaw scurried to the side. Now her path was cleared, Birchwhisker could see a smaller light gray form laying on the ground surrounded by Spottednose, Galalight, and a group of concerned warriors. She took a few steps forward.
“Cloudpaw?” She whispered.
Sunchaser heard her and turned from his position crouching by the apprentice. “She collapsed while training. She’s still alive but…” He softly trailed off. Birchwhisker shook her head. First Stormstrike, now Cloudpaw…which one of my loved ones will be taken from me next.

“Honeypaw, do you promise to uphold TwistedClan’s traditions and to protect the Clan with your life?” Morningstar called from the Ceremony Tree.
“I do.” Honeypaw said.
“Then, I give you your warrior name, Honeytail. Remember that not everything can be solved by friendly chats.” Morningstar rested her muzzle on Honeypaw’s forehead while TwistedClan yelled his new warrior name. “Good job, Honeytail.” Morningstar whispered. Honeytail lashed his tail with his chest puffed out. He could get used to cats cheering his name. Perhaps in time.

Mallardwing was the one to surprise the two toms this time. “We’re going to have kits!” She snagged Valleyrunner’s tail, and he jumped.
“Let’s not start a trend in scaring each other.” Valleyrunner grumbled.
“Yeah, trends end. We can make it a tradition.” Crowtalon suggested. Mallardwing swished her tail happily as she received an unamused glare from Valleyrunner.

“Stop, they’re going to be fine.” Sunchaser tried his best to sound soothing.
“I just want to peek at them quick to see how they’re doing.” Rainsong pleaded. “It’ll only be a second.”
“They’re old enough,” Sunchaser placed his tail on her shoulders. “How about we stretch our legs a bit?” Rainsong perked up. “Away from your kits.” Sunchaser added.
“Fine, fine.” Rainsong relented. “I’m not trying to be an overprotective parent…”
“You are.” Sunchaser pointed out. They ducked under the ferns and stepped into the forest.
“I’m leaving it alone now!” Rainsong chuckled. “But I’ll always worry about our kits.”
Sunchaser choked. “Our kits?”
She missed his initial smile. “Right, sorry…I didn’t mean…”
“No, no, no! I love that.” Sunchaser stopped to nuzzle her. “I know they’re not mine, but they are starting to feel like it. They’re wonderful kits.”
“They’re wonderful because you’ve stuck with me.” Rainsong said softly. “I’m very happy you did.”
“I’m just glad I got past my ego and talked through it with you.” Sunchaser said. He paused. “Wait, do you smell that?”
“Is it another fox?” Rainsong quickly sniffed the air. “No, more…cats?”
“To the north.” Sunchaser muttered. Sure enough, there was a trio of cats traipsing through the underbrush. There were two toms and one she-cat who all seemed to be rather lost. The two TwistedClan cats moved forward with caution.
“Hello!” Rainsong called, causing the new cats to freeze. “Can we help you?”
“Passing through.” The silvery tan tom said smoothly. “Unless you have a problem?”
“It’s just you’re in our territory.” Sunchaser narrowed his eyes. He wasn’t about to be challenged on his own land, even if they were outnumbered.
“I don’t see the harm of walking.” The orange and white tabby tom said loudly.
“We’ll get out of your hair.” The gray she-cat tried to sooth her companions.
“We can show you to the edge of TwistedClan’s borders.” Rainsong offered.
“TwistedClan?” The loud cat asked. “What kind of Clan is that?”
Sunchaser opened his mouth, ready to launch into a vicious retort. He didn’t enjoy the tone the toms were speaking in, but now Rainsong was the one to rest her tail on his shoulders. “Easy.” She muttered. “Our Clan sits among the twisted trees of this forest. When the trees stop growing gnarled, you’ve gone far enough to get out of our hair.”
“You live with other cats?” The gray cat asked.
“Lots more.” Rainsong said.
“Could I check it out?” She asked. Her two companions shared a confused look.
“Gray, what’re you doing?” One of them said.
“You don’t have to come.” Gray shrugged. “I want to try something new.”
“I’ll at least make sure you aren’t ambushed.” The lighter tom said.
“I can take care of myself, Minnow.” Gray rolled her eyes.
“Come if you want,” Sunchaser said. “No ambushes, promise.” They quickly learned the loud cat was named Wind on the way to the camp. “Right through here,” Sunchaser held branches back for the group. “is TwistedClan.”
Morningstar and Ruststripe looked up curiously, their three kits running around. The new cats glanced around, staying close together in their group. Uncomfortable grunts drifted from the medicine cat den; Silverstem must have finally gone into labor. Sagefeather and Wolfclaw were sharing a vole with Wolfclaw looking worriedly towards the sound of his mate. Marsh looked like he was in the middle of a story, hopefully soothing the nerves of the five apprentices about to take their warrior assessments. Mallardwing was laying by Valleyrunner, Nightpelt, and Flameleap, tail curled around her belly. Camp was bustling with life.
“Are you planning on joining us?” Morningstar approached them.
“No.” Wind quickly said.
“Maybe.” Minnow shrugged.
“I think so.” Gray said.
Wind took in the sight of the camp once more and sighed. “Fine.”
“Sunchaser, are they joining us?” Morningstar raised a brow.
“A trial period perhaps.” Sunchaser shifted his weight. Morningstar thought for a second and nodded. “I’ll show them around, then.”

Petalpaw followed Starlingsky out to a quiet place of the forest. The new mentors had decided to split up to have one-on-one sessions. She was excited to be Starlingsky’s apprentice since she was on the younger side and seemed enthusiastic enough. “Sunchaser already showed us how to properly crouch!” Petalpaw swished her tail and slunk into a pretty good hunting crouch.
“Try to move quieter.” Starlingsky suggested. “Stepping on twigs and leaves will alert the prey, and we’ll go hungry.”
“What if there’s too many leaves?”
“Check if the leaves you’re about to step on are flat or not. If you have to crunch it down, you’ll make more noise than stepping on an already flattened leaf.” Starlingsky gathered up some leaf piles. “Let’s practice on these.”

Wolfclaw nuzzled Silverstem and warmly gazed at their newborn kits. “They’re beautiful just like you.” He murmured in her ear.
“They really are.” Silverstem curled up around the suckling kits tightly. “I love you.” Her eyes met his and became concerned. “Is something wrong?”
“Just a bellyache.” Wolfclaw stretched uncomfortably.
“I can call Spottednose back in here.” Silverstem offered.
“Don’t bother him now,” Wolfclaw hurriedly said. “I’ll talk to him tomorrow if it continues.”

Briarwhisper gave up licking Stonefrost’s ears and instead rubbed them with her paw. “Hey.” Stonefrost ducked, protesting this rough cleaning.
“How did you get your ears muddy?” Briarwhisper pulled his head closer to her. “It’s gross.”
“I’ve been working hard.” Stonefrost shook his head and bits of dried mud fell to the ground. He gently pushed her away. “It’s fine.” Briarwhisper rolled her eyes but gave up cleaning. “What do you think of the new cats?” Stonefrost brought her attention to the three newcomers all sharing a thrush.
“They’re alright.” Briarwhisper said. “You can tell Wind still needs time to adjust, but they’re good hunters.”
Nightpelt slowly rolled over to face the couple. “Hopefully if he stays, he’ll learn to lower his voice.” He grumpily said. Mallardwing and Flameleap murmured in agreement.
“Will all available cats join me underneath the Ceremony Tree?” Morningstar called. The TwistedClan cats not currently on patrols turned their attention to the front of the camp where the leader was standing with her kits to the side.
“Are we going to be made apprentices now?” Cinderkit tried to whisper but was still very loud.
“Not yet.” Morningstar nudged her towards Ruststripe as the Clan chuckled. She turned to the three cats on her other side: Minnow, Gray, and Wind. “Have you made your decisions?” They all nodded. “Good. We shall have an informal warrior ceremony now. Minnow, are you prepared to defend TwistedClan with your life?”
“I am.” Minnow said.
“Then you shall be known as Minnowflash.” Morningstar said. “Gray, are you prepared to defend TwistedClan with your life?”
“I am.” Gray said.
“Then you shall be known as Graybelly.” Morningstar said. “Wind, are you prepared to defend TwistedClan with your life?”
“I am.” Wind said after slightly hesitating.
“Then you shall be known as Windcall.” Morningstar said. “Welcome to TwistedClan.”

Sagefeather stumbled to the medicine cat den in the middle of the night. She shook the low branches of the bush to awake on of the medicine cats. Galalight was the one to stick her head out, still blinking away sleep. “Something the matter?” She asked groggily.
“Bellyache.” Sagefeather groaned.
Galalight nodded. “Did you happen to eat anything Wolfclaw did?”
“Shared a vole earlier.”
“I’ll make a nest for you. He’s already in here.”

Spottednose tiptoed out of the den, trying his best not to disturb the ill cats. They had finally settled into an uneasy sleep. “Thanks for getting them settled in.” Spottednose said as Galalight yawned. She tossed him a bite of squirrel.
“Not a problem.” She shrugged. “Glad it’s just a bellyache.”
“Me too,” Spottednose chewed thoughtfully. He didn’t sound too sure.
“What? You think it’s like colic or something?”
“I’m not sure. I’m just on edge with…” Spottednose lowered his voice. “…the prophecy.”
“I won’t deny you’re not on edge.” Galalight muttered.
Spottednose sighed. “We’ll have to keep an eye on them closer this time.” His thoughts trailed back to Cloudpaw, and he felt a pang of guilt. He had cleared her for training and look how that went. “Perhaps we should discuss the prophecy with Wolfclaw when he recovers.”
“Will Morningstar be up for that?”
“I’m not sure.” Spottednose said. “I’m not even sure that’s the best option either, but the deputy deserves to know.”

“I know you’ve been sent to babysit me.” Marsh flicked his bushy tail in slight annoyance. “If I want to go on a hike, I should be able to go on a hike in peace.”
“Then pretend I’m not here.” Neritefang rolled her eyes. “I am just following orders.”
“Why?” Marsh asked. “Wolfclaw has a bellyache. Morningstar is taking care of kits. Why does any cat have a right to tell you what to do and when to do it?”
“She’s our leader, and he is our deputy.” Neritefang said. “I do what is asked to be a good warrior.”
“Why?” Marsh had started to sound like a kit stuck in the “questioning everything” phase.
“Why not?” Neritefang snapped. “TwistedClan has given me a good life, and I’m very grateful for them. No one is forcing you to stay with us.”
Marsh walked silently for a good half mile before he spoke again. “I’ve nev’r a place to call my home.” Neritefang narrowed her eyes, wondering where this was heading. “I’m glad y’all found a safe haven in this twisted forest.”
“I suppose.”
“Do ya have family?”
“Nope. Don’t even remember my mother or any of my littermates.” Neritefang said.
“So TwistedClan is yer family?”
“I guess. More family than GraveClan ever was.”
“I used to have a family myself. They got crushed to death by rocks.”
“Sorry to hear that.”
“Don’t be. You nev’r knew ‘em.” Marsh said. “It’s good to move ‘round, though. A cat wasn’t meant to be stuck in one place or get attached.”
“Hm.”
“Ya don’t think so?”
“I’ve always wanted a little family of my own but just never got the opportunity.”
“Trust me, that’s a blessin’. Relationships only lead to heartbreak.”
