Whisper was coming out of her shell more. It has only been a few weeks since she was found by the border patrol. She claims that she had lost her mother and that she had been looking around for days. Whisper was intimidated by all of the adult dogs in the kennel and the lack of tenderpaws and puppies. Clover had tried talking to her but she was too scared of her size and hid behind Keesha. Keesha comforted her and assured her that she was safe here. The patrol led her to the kennel and searched for Whisper's mother, but to no avail. That night, Whisper slept right next to Keesha. Keesha woke the next morning with the pup's head and front paws on her back. Duke laughed at her because the young dog was almost the size of the shiba inu. Since Whisper wouldn't even approach anyone besides Keesha and Stitches, Keesha was made her mentor.
Now, Whisper was playing with Keesha while they were supposed to be training. The puppy was bouncing back and forth trying to get Keesha to chase her. Keesha refused to play this game. "Come now Whisper. You are supposed to be paying attention to what I'm saying. As a scout, you need to be stealthy. You need to be able to freeze in any position and hide wherever you can. The placement of your paws is the most important part. Don't place them- Whisper!"
The puppy was busy digging a hole. "I'm practicing building a nest so when I get bigger I can be next to you and Stitches. It's like we're a family."
"No. You need to learn how to move stealthily! Now pay attention!" Keesha growled in frustration.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Whisper dropped her ears and shone her puppy eyes at Keesha.
She smiled. "It's fine. But you need to look at me. Me and Stitches can teach you how to build a nest later, ok?"
Whisper yipped. "Yeah, yeah!"

The weather is still warm from the heat of the summer. The leaves haven't turned colors yet, but will in the coming weeks. Fall is when packs of boars may be present in the kennels territories. Prey are starting to prepare for winter, so send out the hunting parties to stock up. Predators will also be moving into the territories looking for food.

Quincey determinedly led his patrol to find the dog. Every once in a while he would stop and sniff a tree or some leaves. As they closed in on the scent, Tania spots a husky marking on their territory. "There they are!" Before any dog could react Basil rushed ahead to confront the dog. "Hey, what are you doing on our territory?!" The brazen husky replied "Me? I'm just taking a break here." Quincey and the rest of the patrol catch up to Basil. "You are a bold dog to be standing up to my patrol. Follow us to our alpha." The dog nodded and the party went back to Rexx. The husky paused before following.

"They're dead." Pepper's words escaped her mouth, which stop the constant wave of questions that come from each side, making Pepper feel trapped. Pepper had limped back into camp after the incident with the bear, and she collapsed, unable to move from the slash in her side. Amour had hurried her into his den, and treated her wounds. "Dead." Lily echoed in disbelief. Boom shared the mental pain that ached at their hearts. "Who killed them?" Boom asked, Lily mourning the loss of two of her pups. "A bear." Pepper mumbled in reply, still bewildered at the saddening event. Maybe they were alive when Pepper staggered away, but she left the bear to completely finish them off. Twinges of guilt and fear sparked in her mind, even with the numerous times she attempted to dismiss the thought. Boom murmured something into Lily's ear, and they left, Lily's head hanging low. "Goodbye, Beetle. Goodbye, Valentine." Pepper choked out, her usual chipper, high spirited voice disappearing. "In some way or another, I'll avenge your deaths, not matter the cost."

Today was a mix of both joy and sorrow. Valentine and Beetle perished, and Pepper escaped but with a nasty wound on her side. But Viola was about to become a Tenderpaw, a new dog joined the pack and Bullet heard from Amour that Gabriel would be due any in any moment. Although it was Bullet's duty to ask the question of whether Viola was a worthy Tenderpaw, Bullet would hate to miss the burst of new life in the pack, especially from his own mate. But he had to do what had to be done. Slipping into the nursery, he spotted Gabriel, Reena and her four pups asleep. But Viola spotted Bullet, and bounded towards him. "You ready?" Bullet asked with a warm smile. "Yeah!" Viola chirped, already bounding off. Bullet chuckled and followed the to-be Tenderpaw.

"It's my fault that they died. If I hadn't told them there were foxes into the forest, they'd never had ventured off." Aurelius aggressively spat at himself, shaking his head. "I'm such an idiot." "I'm sure you're not." A tranquil voice came from behind, and Aurelius spun around, and was face to face with the beautiful female known as Melody. "I... hello Melody." Aurelius greeted, swiftly feeling flustered. Melody sat down in silence beside Aurelius, nodding. After a few moments of the simple sounds or buzzing within the pack, Aurelius spoke. "I'm the reason two innocent Tenderpaws are dead." Aurelius grumbled. Melody sighed. "Nothing is your fault, Aurelius." She spoke with a gentle tone. "It was their idea to go search for them." Aurelius returned her sigh. "I guess..." he started. "I guess that's true."

Rexx stood on the edge of the territory, per the request of his ancestors. He was supposed to be meeting the suitor for Marigold. He wanted her to have a mate so that if anything happened to him, nobody would overrun her & her right to be leader. He feared that in sometime in the future, his leadership could be questioned, but as the newly building pack was increasing, he felt as if it should have a secure future. If Marigold had a mate, then the pack member's wouldn't worry as much about the possibility of him passing, and being overrun.

Marigold wasn't aware of his plan, but the suitor the ancestors presented him wouldn't be a full beta until she accepted him as one of the pack. Marigold was feisty and he was sure she would lay into him at his decision, but she had been recently talking to him about wishing she could have a family, or at least have a mate by her side. The timing couldn't have been perfect. He wondered if the ancestors would send him another suitor for her, just to make it a slight competition. He sighed, he didn't want that, that would be too stressful for the pack.

He was sitting for a couple more minutes, before he saw the outline of a large dog approaching. Rexx stood up, his large bulky frame drowning out the smaller collie. The male didn't look like much, but Rexx hoped that his personality and skills were larger than his appearence. The dog approached closer, nose out, sniffing Rexx, "You must be the alpha. I was sent here by the ancestors because I am a good suitor for your beta. Where is she?"

Rexx snorted, "She is busy patrolling right now. She doesn't know of your arrival. Or you even being a suitor."

The male nodded, "What a way to get a scar. I hope she makes a lasting one on you."

"Me too. I deserve it honestly, but it's vital for our pack to see a good future if I am to pass unexpectedly. And there are males here that could outfight her, so if she was paired off, than she would gain her rank as alpha."

"I would be getting that rank as well?" The collie asked.

Rexx paused, "Marigold would be higher ranked because she was here longer, but you will still gain the alpha title. She is just the final word."

"Good. I don't need every single stress in the world." He paused, "I'm Lindon, by the way."

"Rexx." Rexx paused and turned toward the camp, "If she doesn't accept you as beta, in the worst case possible, would you consider staying in the pack? As a Zeta?"

Lindon paused to consider the thought, "If she didn't accept me, or she found someone else, I would enjoy staying. I haven't been in a pack for a while, and I know I will enjoy the company it will provide."

Rexx nodded, "Good. You seem level headed and I would enjoy having an ally."

Weather Report: The warm days of Summer have fallen cooler and the leaves have slowly begun to change. Fall is in the air. With colder days comes less prey to being caught, but more predators. ~One moon ago~
Caelan waited anxiously at the entrance to the nursery. His mate, Lily, was giving birth and he was worried about her. She had always seemed so strong, but as soon as she found she had pups on the way she crumpled into a nervous wreck. Anxiety had taken its toll on her. She wasn't eating or sleeping well at night and every one was afraid she wouldn't make it because of this. Almond, the shaman, and Rose were helping her. Every once in a while Rose would murmur encouraging words to Lily. Caelan appreciated this because it meant his beloved mate had not passed on. Finally Almond invited Caelan in to see the brindle female and her pups. Caelan, relived rushed into the den, but was stopped by Rose. "You have to be quick. They pups are sleeping and Lily will be also before to long." Caelan nodded his understanding and continued into the den. Four gorgeous pups were gathered around an exhausted Lily. Three males and one female, all sandy colored like himself. Lily lifted her head up as he came in, her tail slightly wagging. "They're perfect. What shall we name them?". Caelan tilted his head at the pups and thought about it. "What about Torra for this one? After my sister I had to leave behind when my kennel died". He asked Lily, lonlyness creeping into his voice. She will be named in rembrance of her. Now what about the others?" Lily gazed fondly down at the squirming pups. "Izzy for the other shorthaired one, Jax for the one with white, and Nakita for the other male."

~The next day~
Dakota sat outside the nursery, waiting for his turn to see the pups. Every one had been fawning over how cute they were. He was glad they were all okay, after all they were his mentors pups. Dakota heard paw steps coming up behind his and he turned to see who it was. It was the golden doig, Gabriel. "Hey, Dakota" he cheerfully called. "Pepper says I'm your mentor now. What do you think of that?" He didn't know what to think, exctided to be the Tenderpaw of such a popular dog, dismayed he wouldn't be able to train with Lily. "I'm glad your my mentor" her finally barked. Gabriel replied, "Well that's sure a relief. What do you say about going training?"

~Now~
"Why do I have to wait? I have learned everything Frost has to teach me, so why should I wait any longer?" Pepper looked down at the little dog with the big personality and said, amused, "For one even full grown you could stand under the smallest Irontooth, and second, you have to be at least twelve moons old to complete the assessment." Maena looked taken aback at this. "I'm not that small, I bet I could take any dog here!" At this Maena stood up on her hind legs and growled, waving her front paws in the air, and try to look intimidating. Unfortunately it was impossible to be intimidated by a little, fluffy dog with huge ears. Pepper just chuckled and walked away, calling behind her "Is one moon that long?" leaving a very annoyed Maena glaring at her back.
