Dapplestar padded back to camp followed by the other cat that had followed her home. It weirded her out. She had never seen this cat before.

The cat trailed behind her, as if they had been in the clan their whole life.

“If you don’t mind me asking, who are you?” Dapplestar asked the cat.

“Depends, what do you want to call me?” They had asked.

Dapplestar sat and thought for a while. She kept looking over the cat, looking for a possible name.

“What pronouns do you use?” She asked the cat.

“I use they/them, why?” The cat had asked.

“Well when coming up with a name, I just like knowing what the cat’s gender is. It can kind of help,” She explained.

“Oh okay,” They replied.

She thought for a while longer. This cat was beautiful, covered in spots just like her. Just then she got it. She jumped on the great rock, even if there was nobody else there. “Hey come up here,” She hissed.

The cat jumped up. “But nobody else is here!”

She ignored that. “Leafclan, we have a new cat joining. They will be known as Ladybugfoot. You will become the new Medicine cat. I know a bit about herbs so I will teach you myself. Let Starclan look over you as you become the new medicine cat,” She touched noses and brought him to the den.

“You will stay here,” She said pointing in the den. “There are the herbs. Those are used to heal the cats,” She explained. “The webs help fill cuts,”

“Okay thank you,” Ladybugfoot said rolling their eyes. “I had no idea,”

“I can make you an outcast when ever I want!” Dapplestar said jokingly nudging the cat. Ladybugfoot smiled back.

“Thank you,” They said.

“You’re welcome,”

After that Dapplestar went out to hunt for the two of them.

↠ kyanite keep was an ancient clan, founded before many of today's clans were even thoughts in a cat's mind. while its exact origins are unknown, its first form lived on for several generations of leaders before it was torn apart from within, betrayed by its own cats. because of the horror and suffering that kyanite keep's loyal members had to endure, their ancestors, known as "the greater ones," abandoned the clan entirely, for they too were disgusted at what their former friends and family had done to it.
moons passed, and the greater ones grew restless. although they had indeed been traumatized by the sudden turn of their own cats, they realized that they could not abandon those who were still loyal, those who wished to see kyanite keep reach its former greatness once more. so they approached one cat: a molly who had been true to her clan until the end, and who was deeply troubled by its downfall. they offered her a position as the leader of the new kyanite keep, with the condition of some new systems that would be put into place. the molly, who had only felt misplaced without the support of her clanmates since she lost them, accepted without hesitation. and thus, kyanite keep was reborn.

↠ kyanite keep's camp is sheltered within an abandoned kyanite mine in virginia, with the nests placed deep enough in the tunnels to remove the threat of severe weather. the blue kyanite crystals that grow abundantly within are what originally earned the clan its name, however there are several other types of gems that grow in these caves as well- they are simply too well hidden for humans to have discovered them. the walls of the caves are thus lined with beautiful crystals that often shimmer when struck with any ray of light that may make its way in. despite the dens and nests that are formed inside the tunnels, the cats of kyanite keep spend most of their time aboveground. there is a forest lush with prey that sits atop the mine, and a large clearing right above the camp where the clan's ceremonies are conducted. the types of prey that the cats hunt include shrews, squirrels, frogs, birds, mice, and fish, the last of which are found in a river that runs through the eastern side of the territory. other notable locations include the training cove to the southeast, and the starlit cliffs at the western edge of the territory. common predators include foxes, coyotes, and bobcats.

↠ the cats of kyanite keep are quite dependent on their ancestors, known as "the greater ones," and as such are very religious. this stems partly from the frequent visits that the greater ones make to their camp in order to conduct "bonding ceremonies," which are part of the agreement that they made with kyanite keep's new queen. bonding ceremonies take place between new members of the clan or kits that reach apprentice age. during the ceremony, a greater one will assign two cats to be "soulbound" to one another, and crystals of varying types will be used to connect the two cats together. the cats cannot choose who they are soulbound to, as this would be acting in direct opposition of the greater ones' word. once two cats are soulbound, their lives are tied to one another, meaning that if one of the pair dies, then the other shall pass as well. it is the greater ones' belief that this will force the cats of kyanite keep to stay loyal to one another no matter what. (it should be noted that being soulbound does not require two cats to become mates, or even talk to one another- the bond exists solely to be a connection of their life forces.)
if a cat joins the clan and there is no suitable other for them to bond to, they are considered bad luck and are kept in the camp until a bond can be made, which can only be determined by the greater ones. if a cat should decide to leave the clan, their bonding crystal will be shattered and the other cat will be kept in the camp until a new bond can be made. the leaving cat will then be chased from the territory, and if seen inside the borders again they will be killed for treason.

↠ there are two leaders, known as kings or queens, who will always be bound together. both are given four lives instead of one receiving nine. it is believed that the ninth life flows through all the cats of the clan, providing the energy needed to bind their souls.
there are two deputies who will always be bound together, known as the courtiers, and while they are not specifically assigned, one is usually seen accompanying one leader whereas the other stays with the other leader.
the medicine cat is known as the herbalist, and their trainee is the herbalist's apprentice.
warriors are known as knights and those in training to become knights are known as apprentices.
queens are called nursing-mothers, and kits do not change.
elders are called the venerated.
