for as long as any cat can remember, the dune range marauders have laid claim to their home of dune range, an open expanse of grasslands that merge with sandy dunes at the outskirts. known for being bulky, strictly trained and difficult to bargain with, most cats steer clear of the marauders' territory, lest they come face to face with a challenge they know they won't win.
they might be willing to make a trade if the circumstances please them, but to even propose one you'd have to find them first- something they pride themselves in avoiding. some cats even claim the marauders can be in two places at once, and that once you enter their territory, you are always being watched.
the marauders don't abide by a specific religion, so each member tends to believe in different things, but there is a universal agreement that the land and nature should be praised for providing the blessings that allow them to survive. therefore, it is common for them to simply pray to nature with any requests or reassurance they may need.
the marauders are never ones to back down from a battle, and are more than willing to fight to the death for their clanmates. they have few friends and several enemies due to their tendency to raid other clans and rogue groups for supplies. if you manage to convince them to form a truce, though, you will have gained an terrifyingly powerful and exceptionally loyal ally.
the wild west is a lawless land, and that's exactly how the dune range marauders like it.

the leader has no official title, but will sometimes be affectionately referred to as the "point runner," a term used for cowboys who rode at the front of the cattle herd. the point runner appoints one "deputy" who will take over their position if they die, and the clan's medicine cat is simply known as the "medic." there are two groups of warriors known as "rangers," who typically take care of border patrols, and "dune runners," who are the clan's main hunters. any warrior-rank cat may do either job, but they will be most often assigned to their specialty, and the two groups sleep in different dens. each group has one "captain" who is assigned by the point runner. they oversee the training of all "trainees," and are always the judge of the final assessments for their respective group's trainees. the clan's queens are called "mothers" and kittens may be referred to in many ways, but they will most often be called "rascals." Elders are known as "seniors."

the marauders inhabit a portion of land similar to the grasslands of the great plains, with sparse foliage except for grasses and cacti. their camp is made for the purpose of moving at any time, but usually exists on the shadowed side of a rocky slope facing away from where the grasslands meet the dunes. here they make their dens under rocky outcroppings, with mothers and their kits usually getting the largest or deepest set dens to protect them from predators and weather. there is only one known water source, a small spring that sits closer to where the grassland merges with a forest, so they must remain wary of droughts. the main prey that the marauders hunt include mice, gophers, prairie dogs, birds, ferrets, and ground squirrels. the most commonly spotted predators include coyotes, foxes, wolves, and snakes.
