Deerstar glanced worriedly over at Amberlight. "Stay in the clearing kits," she meowed to Amberlight's and her kits. "I'll keep an eye on the kits for you," she meowed to the queen, her tail flicking.

Amberlight nodded, knowing it might be for the best. "Hopefully it's not to bad," she meowed.

Powderbreeze watched and frowned. "Please be careful when you patrol or hunt, " she meowed to the clan. "It's slippery with ice out there," she cautioned, glancing down at the apprentices as she warned them, before dismissing the clan.

As night drew on, Weaselstorm and Magpiewhisker grew disheartened as their desperate search for chervil kept turning up with nothing. Leaf-bare, in all its cruelty, had taken away the herb when they needed it most. And now Fawnfur would have to make do with what they had. 'Provided she lives through the night.' Weaselstorm thought, praying to StarClan that they needn't take away another cat so close to Magpiewhisker. Ever since the death of his father, the black-and-white tom had changed, and Weaselstorm didn't want another loss to break his spirit even further.

"Weaselstorm, we're going to keep looking, aren't we?" Magpiewhisker asked; the medicine cat's heart dropped as he stared at the vulnerable tom before him, his black fur stood at all edges, ears pinned to the back of his head, and his eyes were wide with fear. Weaselstorm didn't want to tell him that their chances were grim, but he had to. He didn't want to dangle hope in front of Magpiewhisker when there was hardly any to hold onto. Shaking his head, he swallowed the bile in his throat before addressing the younger tom. "I'm sorry, Magpiewhisker. I don't think there's any chervil left."

Magpiewhisker was quiet, tearing his gaze away from Weaselstorm to look at the snow-covered ground at his paws. In the blink of his eye, Weaselstorm stepped back in surprise as the warrior unsheathed his claws and scored marks in the earth, yowling in frustration. He stared back at him then, eyes glossy with the threat of falling tears. "I won't give up! My ears and paws can freeze for all I care, but I'm not going to go back empty-pawed. Fawnfur needs me." He proclaimed, voice trembling with emotion as he brought up his mate. Weaselstorm sighed, struggling to find his words, but he wasn't able to before two yowls in the distance grabbed both their attention.

Aspenheart and Rosefur were running towards them, sending sprays of snow in their midst. It didn't take one to notice that their movements were frantic, and Weaselstorm felt a dreadful inkling of what their news might be. Magpiewhisker met them halfway with him in tow. Aspenheart couldn't meet his disheveled brother's gaze, and Rosefur's voice was thick with sympathy as she spoke. "You need to come home - it's Fawnfur."

Magpiewhisker stumbled on his paws as if the thought of his mate in pain harmed him too. Aspenheart went up to his side, allowing his brother to lean against him on their long trek home, where undoubtedly the body of Fawnfur laid - no longer would anyone in PineClan hear her sweet voice or see her and Magpiewhisker together, basking in the unbreakable bond between them. Weaselstorm felt defeated, thinking back to Shrikeface's dying wish. 'I promised you I'd protect them, and now look.' He thought bitterly, tail lashing in frustration.

He tore his eyes away from the three younger cats, only to find something else that caught his attention: two cats staring right at him, stars in their fur and sadness in their gaze. Shrikeface and Fawnfur, far healthier now than how they were when they left the living world. Where one would feel awed to be in the presence of StarClan, Weaselstorm felt defeated - two cats he could've saved, yet was too late to do anything. "Take care." He whispered, quickening his pace to catch up to the others.

'We will.' He heard Shrikeface reply; Fawnfur's followed after, her voice still quiet and soft. 'Tell Magpiewhisker I'll wait for him, and to let Acornclaw know I'm so proud of her.'

The moon was hanging high over their heads by the time the rest of the Clan had paid their respects towards the young brown molly. Fawnfur lay in the middle of the clearing now, purple wildflowers covered her wounds and the moon's light cast a gentle glow on her fur - had it not been for the faint scent of blood in the air, Aspenheart could say that the sight was almost serene. He watched from the edge of the clearing as his aunt, mother, brother, sisters, and niece laid down at her side. Another member of the family gone, Aspenheart ruminated. He wondered how his father felt at her passing.

He blinked as he noticed Wasptail, Ramhorn, and their children approach the other mourners. Because Aspenheart hadn't known Fawnfur well he had nearly forgotten that she was Wasptail's kin too - her niece, to be exact. The loss must've hit her hard, as her sister and niblings had been mauled by foxes so many seasons ago. Fawnfur had been the sole survivor then. 'And now she got killed by dogs, what a way to go.' Aspenheart huffed, claws digging into the earth. He began to stand, ready to turn away from camp and get away from PineClan until Rosefur came up to his side. "Can we," She hesitated, clearing her throat before continuing. "can we talk?"

The two cats stared at each other for several heartbeats until Aspenheart nodded, Rosefur smiled back at him comfortingly as she led him away, taking him to a sheltered little area where the trees provided coverage from the snow. The ginger cat sat underneath, wrapping her thick tail neatly over her paws. Aspenheart copied her actions, a curious look in his eye. Rosefur took a deep breath, gaining composure before she spoke. "I've seen... many losses in my life. I lost SageClan, TumbleClan, Graynose, and Foxtail who was killed by my brother, no less. Only the stars know where he is now."

"We're never guaranteed a single day, are we?" She mewed, choking up on her words. "I realize now that we should always keep our loved ones close; we'll never know when we'll lose them." Rosefur stared at Aspenheart, blue eyes brimming with more warmth and tenderness than he ever deserved. Aspenheart felt his spirit plummet, now understanding where this conversation headed. After all this time, Rosefur still loved him. "R-Rosefur-"

"I'm not finished." Rosefur cut him off, dedicated to finishing her confession. She moved closer to him, to where their noses nearly touched. "Aspenheart, I love you." She said, voice full of passion. "I always will, and I want to know if you still feel the same." As she awaited his answer, Aspenheart felt the world close in on him. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, he relied on instinct to give her his answer. With a deep breath, Aspenheart mewed the words that send him down yet another rabbit hole.

"I love you too."

Only a week had passed since the death of her mother, but to Acornclaw, the pain was still as raw as the night she said her last goodbye. It was hard without Fawnfur; every day she'd look behind her, thinking she'd see her mother's smiling face wishing her a successful hunt or patrol, and then she remembered. Her father was dealing with it worse, and it broke Acornclaw's heart to see him cradle the feathers she lined her nest with, his eyes blank with grief. The other warriors gave him space, which she was grateful for, and they were very understanding of how she was taking it as well.

The most unexpected reaction had been from Juniperpelt, Orchidnose, and Egrettail, who she found paying their respects at Fawnfur's grave not a day after her burial. They laid down small bouquets of wildflowers, Juniperpelt's eyes were misty and sad. "She was our mother too." He told her, reminding Acornclaw of how quickly Juniperpelt and his siblings were taken in by Fawnfur and Magpiewhisker. Since the encounter, their bond fortified, and the four young cats always had each other's backs when they noticed any of them wasn't coping well.

Acornclaw decided to go on a solo hunt that dawn; if only to have time to herself and to ensure her senses were sharp enough to oversee Lightpaw's assessment that night. The loss of her mother stung, but she would try her best to keep up with her responsibility to Lightpaw as his mentor. She got into a hunting crouch, snow hardly crunching underneath her paws as she stalked towards a thin mouse a little ways' ahead of her. Wiggling her rump, Acornclaw prepared herself to pounce until a flash of dark brown fur hurled themselves out of the bushes and onto her target.

Acornclaw's heartbeat fastened in surprise, and it only quickened once she realized who it was that took her prey; Snakeshade. Ignoring the fact that he was trespassing on her territory and that she should be on the defensive, Acornclaw called out to him curiously, making the tom's back fur spike up before he recognized her voice. "What are you doing here?" She asked incredulously, stepping out from her hiding place to pad closer to him. She felt herself grow flushed as Snakeshade's eyes softened when he looked at her, oh, trespasser be damned. Acornclaw missed him.

Snakeshade set down his mouse, licking his muzzle clean before he mewed - "Finding you, of course." - Acornclaw emitted a questioning chirp, and he chuckled softly before continuing. "I've been... thinking, about my place in EchoClan, and I realized I don't think I belong there. Not anymore." Snakeshade rubbed his nose against her cheek then, Acornclaw shivered at the intimate gesture. "I think my place is with you if you and PineClan will take me."

Acornclaw let out a shuddering sigh, burying her face into his neck fur. She wondered if perhaps this was StarClan being kind - allowing such a great, amazing, and wondrous tom like Snakeshade into her life during such a low point in it. She sniffled, pulling away from him with unshed tears in her eyes. "Of course I'll have you! And I'll fight my Clan if they say otherwise." She laughed, for the first time this week, as Snakeshade licked the top of her forehead before they got up to their paws - Acornclaw twined their tails together as she led the way to camp. There'd be so much to fill Snakeshade in on; how PineClan was, how she was, but she wanted to relish the feeling of being beside him for now.

As they walked away a ghost-like molly appeared behind them; pale brown fur bedazzled in stars. Fawnfur smiled at the young couple, now comforted that her kit would be okay.

After the death of so many cats, it became harder for the clan to go about duties. But they still needed to move forward, remembering the past and looking forward to the future. Since the clan lost their deputy and leader, along with the head medicine cat, they needed to vote on a new leader to pull them forward. The elders gathered the whole clan... warriors, apprentices, even kits. "Since the death of Timberstar, and Stonebark, we have had our time to mourn and now we need to gain a new leader. One stronger, one that will keep the clan growing." Sunsplash said, her heart heavy knowing that Lunarglow should have been here to lead this meeting. "And, through speaking together," Honeygaze began, "we have decided to ask Birchfur to lead the clan."
"We came to this through evaluating the warriors and finding the best solution, one that knows the foundations of the clan best and can lead us well." Sunsplash said. The clan looked at Birchfur, who was surrounded by her young. "I'm grateful for the offer... but the loss of my mate Timberstar is too heavy in my mind for me to lead a clan properly. You must find someone else to lead Fireclan..." she mewed sadly. Her kits cuddled her in comfort to prevent her tears along with their own. That's when Shadowstride took a deep breath and spoke. "I know how hard this will be... but I want Greyface to become the new leader. He was strong in the eyes of his sister who had just murdered his own mother before us all, knowing she also killed his only brother, and composed himself in a manner I pray all good leaders have."
The clan fell silent as a night in the forest, thinking hard on the words of the broken queen caring for so many kits that were orphaned. "I agree with Shadowstride." Littleheart meowed to break the silence. She padded over to Greyface and smiled to him. "I've known this young warrior since he was a kit and can say confidently he has always been the most composed and quickest thinking of all his siblings." Greyface smiled at Littleheart. More meows of confirmation filled the air, slowly, until the elders silenced the clan. "I believe the clan has spoken. Meows of mournful joy filled the air as Greyface padded to the front of the clan and stood beside the elders. "Thank you all for looking past my sister and trusting me. I promise I'll live up to Timberstar's legacy and help this clan continue growing quickly so we don't get so damaged by unknown forces." He said, eyes scanning each cat's eyes. "If you all agree, I'd like to appoint Forgottennose as deputy for his resilience and strong mentoring of Shadowpaw." No one rejected his suggestion and, after waiting a moment for any words against his choice, he continued. "There have been quite a few apprentices left mentorless because of the deaths of cats we all care about. Will those apprentices please step forward and receive your new mentors." Pinepaw, Paperpaw, Aspenpaw, and Coalpaw all stepped forward. They looked up at Greyface as they sat. "Pinepaw, you have lost your mentor Hollypelt and will therefore continue your medicine cat training with Valleyglow; the only remaining medicine cat." he said, watching Pinepaw pad sadly over to Valleyglow who sat with Blazepaw. "Paperpaw, you have lost your mentor Bramblestrike and will therefore continue your warrior training with Yewfeather." He said, letting time for Paperpaw to pad over to Yewfeather. "Aspenpaw, you have lost your mentor Snaketail and will therefore continue your warrior training with Lavendernose." He said. Lavendernose's eyes widened with shock, knowing she had just left the medicine den as a forever cripple, but nodded as Aspenpaw came over to her. "Finally, Coalpaw, you have lost your mentor Stonebark and will therefore continue your warrior training with Burnettface." He concluded as Coalpaw padded sadly over to his new mentor. All clan cats silently prayed he would have better luck training under Burnettface's guidance. "I will make the trip to see Starclan and receive my nine lives. Please listen to Forgottennose as he runs the clan in my absence. I will be back very soon." he said, dispersing the clan meeting. He padded up to Valleyglow. "I'm sorry about Hollypelt... but I need you to take over as head medicine cat." he said. Valleyglow's eyes shimmered with tears but she nodded. "Of course. I will do anything you need from me..." she mewed sadly, then padded off with her two apprentices.

Brightpaw followed Firestripe out of camp to continue her training. She was doing well with training and it always got her mind off of the deaths around camp, but she missed her brother Beechpaw. She had learned when they became apprentices that Valleyglow was their mother and that their father in Amberclan, Jasper, would be taking in Beechpaw since Fireclan couldn't hold too many more apprentices. She vowed she would train hard so next time she met him she would be a warrior, maybe even meet her father, but more to make her real mother proud just like Shadowstride who nursed her from a kit. "You coming?" Firestripe called behind his shoulder, noticing Brightpaw lagging behind a bit. "Yeah!" she called out, jumping forward to catch up. "You are usually pushing me forward and saying I'm slow!" he joked to his apprentice. Brightpaw smiled wide at his words. "I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt."
"Doubt of what?"
"That you're not really that old!" Brightpaw said as she bolted away, trying to escape her mentor who would obviously want to make her pay for it. "Oh training will be so hard today!" he said as he chased after her.

Fuzzypaw padded out of camp with his siblings and their mentors, the energy heavy with Birchfur's mourning over Timberstar. No one dared speak and break the heavy silence that was held, even Lionheart who always liked messing with Fuzzypaw's playfulness with his sister and brother. Training went on silent.

Barkstar made it clear to his new clan mates that if they expected to stay in Deathclan they would have to work extra hard, and that this life wouldn't be easy. "Tigerfang, we need herbs to keep the clan growing. Fireclan is out south-west. It shouldn't be hard for you to take something." Barkstar commanded. Tigerfang was more than happy to steal from the bigger clan, show his worth to Foxstar who challenged him to something... important. He nodded and ran off, then Barkstar turned to Tawnypelt. "I don't care that you're a queen, you will be working on building dens to protect us from the cold while I am out patrolling. If you don't work hard enough your kits won't have a mother to keep them warm..." he threatened. Tawnypelt stared down the bitter leader but nodded. "If you hurt me or my kits you will pay..." she hissed as she turned to work on dens. Barkstar huffed as he turned and left the camp to make sure no Fireclan cats were going to find his camp. He needed to grow as fast as possible to take down that terrible clan...

Clan Name: Desertclan

Territory: Desertclan lives in a desert that is filled to the brim with predators such as coyotes or rattlesnakes.

Camp: Desertclan has been using basic ways to stay cool in the heart of the desert, one way they've done this is by making their camp in an underground tunnel system, there is one main entrance and many much smaller entrances, they've built their dens around an underground lake, though the cats despise water.

Cats: Desertclan cats have fine but still fluffy fur to protect themselves from the sun, they have hard, burned almost pads from how much they walk and run on the sand. They quite often seem narcissistic from how much they think they are being stared at, though in reality, they are just timid. Desertclan cats are not built big and instead are tiny and can be seen running through the desert after their prey and to not burn their paws off

Other desert-dwelling animals: Desertclan cats mostly eat rabbits, mice, and the occasional lizard. They are usually hunted by coyotes, and wolves and sometimes a rattlesnake bite will occur.

Reputation: Desertclan is thought to be snobs they really aren't, they have always known the life of kill or be killed and trust no cat from enemy or allied clans

The Season of Winter. During leafbare, the chances of catching greencough is higher. If you send the same cat out multiple times in the same post, they are more likely to catch a cold, which is lead to whitecough and greencough so be careful. After your cat catches a cold, don't send them out for 2 posts or their cold will progress to whitecough or greencough. The sun will start to go down early and it will get colder once the sun starts to go down. You will also catch less prey and are less likely to find new cats.

starting post

Number of Cats: one

Finally, after what felt like moons, Copper stopped running. A large lake loomed in front of him, shining golden in the sun. Looking around him, he realized he was in a forest with large, looming trees. The air was thick with humidity, like a clingy kit stuck to your pelt, and Copper realized it rained here often. Panting, he came over to sip from the cool water.

After taking some time to explore, he decided this little clearing would be a nice place to settle down. He chose a tall, thick tree that had branches drooling over the lake would be his home. He'd discovered each tree was hollow and roomy, perfect for dens if nests were made inside. The kits could learn to swim in the lake and use the vines to learn to climb the slippery trees. As he was trying to figure all of this out in his head, he discovered an odd tree.

It was smaller than the other trees, and was not hollow. The branches led to the top of the canopy, where the sky could be clearly seen. It was here a starry figure came before him. "Nectarjaw!" He exclaimed, eyes widening with surprise at seeing the previous ThunderClan warrior. He was the only tom from StarClan that kept in touch with Copper, as it was the StarClan queens who taught him the warrior code and were his true mothers. They were better mothers than Cascade, anyway.

"Welcome to your new home, Copper." Nectarjaw purred, his silver pelt twinkling clearer than the sky that night. "Is it to your liking?"

"It's perfect!" Copper meowed with excitement. Eight StarClan cats appeared behind Nectarjaw, some of them the StarClan queens who raised Copper.

"Here, you will begin what will be known to all as JungleClan." Nectarjaw announced with pride. "We're here to give you your nine lives. From this moment on, you will be known as Aspenstar."

Leafbare- Though the worst of the blizzard has passed, snow stills falls on the Clan territories. Wind, however, is nearly nonexistent, with the world itself almost seeming to hold its breath during the rough season. No one knows how long the respite from the storm will last, they can only hope for enough time to recover from the last storm before the next.

Rabbitspark squinted up at the platform Viperstar had just spoken from. Apparently, Ravencloud was carrying his kits. What a happy family that would be. If he was trying to get the Clan to sympathize with him, Slatestar's death would not be forgotten that quickly. The calico partially blamed herself. She tried to persuade the leader to compose himself. She had failed. But she couldn't dwell on that. There was a much more important event happening in the next few days. Ashpaw was going to take his final assesment! Time flew by so quickly. So much had happened in the previous thirteen moons and yet, it seemed like she had given birth yesterday. The feeling was still fresh in her heart; the feeling of joy, pride, and excitement. The look on Cindertail's face was priceless. Her mate was totally freaked out and ecstatic at the same time. Her smile faltered as she thought about him. His death still festered withing Rabbitspark. The she-cat had tried to look forward but at Cindertail was still the first and last thing she thought about everyday. She missed having the comfort of a solid figure sleeping beside her and warming her short fur. Now, air and brisk wind was all that kept her company at night. Of course, Weaselfur had moved his nest closer to hers but it wasn't the same. Even in ElmClan Weaselfur had been there for her; sort of a brother figure. She was so grateful to have him. He had been by her side through thick and thin and she couldn't imagine life without him. The tom was a great role model for Ashpaw even outside of being his mentor. Rabbitspark remembered how overjoyed she had been when her son was apprenticed to the old tom. She was worrying about how Ashpaw would adapt to training, but her fears and concerns melted away like snow once Weaselfur and Ashpaw touched noses.

As if they had heard her, the pair shuffled into the clearing from the surrounding forest. They carried the scent of the wind with them and as soon as they glimpsed her grey and ginger spots, they started trotting towards her. The she-cat sat up, curling her tail neatly over her paws. "Hello!" She greeted with a purr "How did training go?" Weaselfur smiled at his apprentice and looked at Rabbitspark. "It went great! We just reviewed the basics. He should do fine on his assessment tomorrow." The tom reported. Ashpaw grumbled. Rabbitspark tilted her head and flicked her son gently with her tail. "What's wrong sweetie? Aren't you excited to become a warrior? Oh, I can't wait to hear your new name!" She chirped. Ashpaw's tail drooped. "I'm a bit nervous but I'm not upset about that." He murmured. Weaselfur sighed, returning his gaze to Rabbitspark. "The apprentices are staying up late to watch the sunset but I told Ashpaw he needs a good night's rest for tomorrow, even if he really wanted to go." He revealed. Rabbitspark frowned and Ashpaw hung his head. She lifted his chin up with her paw. "Hey," She smiled, looking into his green eyes. Just like Cindertail's. "Think of it this way: once you're a warrior, you can stay up as long as you want!" Ashpaw murmured his agreement. "C'mon." Weaselfur meowed "It's starting to get dark. You should go to bed." Ashpaw nodded reluctantly and nuzzled his mother goodnight before shuffling off in the direction of the apprentices' den. Rabbbitspark had her eyes trained on him until he disappeared into the crack of the cliff face. A brown tabby she-cat followed behind him with a smile on her face. "Hey, Ashpaw," Hawkpaw greeted loud enough for the pair to hear "I'll stay with you. Sunsets aren't that special. They happen every night!" Rabbitspark smiled. "She's a good cat." She purred. The small she-cat definitely took after her mother. Adderbreeze was always a considerate cat, never leaving someone alone. "Do you think she likes him?" She gasped "Oh that would be so cute!" She let out a little squeal of excitement as Weaselfur chuckled and sat beside her. "I think they still have many moons ahead of them to figure it out." He sighed. The tom's eyes scanned the camp. "You've done well for yourself, Rabbitspark." He purred "Far from the skittish apprentice I met all those moons ago. I'm proud of you." Rabbitspark dipped her head to hide the blush heating up her face. "I couldn't have done it without you, Weaselfur. You're the one who convinced me to leave ElmClan. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if we stayed. I think we all do. I'm sure Cougarleap and Batfur miss their other brothers and Rainwing no doubt misses her brother. I wonder where the other cats went, if they're still alive, if they have families of their own, if they ever think of us. Part of me wants to go back and visit, but the other part knows I won't find them." Weaselfur scooted over and wrapped his tail around her, letting her head rest on his shoulder. "I think about our old home all the time too." He murmured, looking straight ahead at the group of apprentices laughing in the middle of camp "The question I find myself asking the most is if we should've returned to bring them to BearClan. We promised we would, but we never did." Rabbitspark inhaled his scent and closed her eyes. "I think we made the right choice. Not many of them would appreciate Viperstar and the direction the Clan is headed." Sleep tugged at her mind but she forced herself to stay awake and talk with her friend. "You know, I'm not supposed to know this, but I think Campionfang and Turtlegaze are going to leave. I'm almost positive other cats are going with them. You could join them if you want." She shook her head, nuzzling deeper into Weaselfur's chest. "I can't just leave. The good memories far out way the bad. Surely Viperstar won't stay in power for long." She yawned "There are plenty of cats who don't support him. He may have his band of loyals, but the rest of the Clan is furious. Soon, they'll have enough." Weaselfur flicked an ear. He knew that she was right. He knew he had to do something. Viperstar was going to get them all killed eventually. The bear wasn't keen on negotiating and the cats had omitted going up for several moons now. He wouldn't be surprised if the beast came down and slaughtered every single one of them. The soft sighs coming from Rabbitspark made him look down. He smiled at the she-cat. She was like a sister to him. He would do anything to protect her and her family. "Come on, sleepy head." He whispered in her ear "Let's get you into your nest." He gently guided her up and over to the warriors den, settling her down for the night. Once she was comfortably sleeping, he took the few steps needed to reach his nest. The warrior curled up and blinked at the calico. His eyes closed and he drifted into the abyss of sleep, all the anxieties and fears of the day melting into fuzzy blackness.
