Abysmal frontier is mostly shorthair and mediumhair, with many, many orientals. They tend to be leaner and quicker than most clans due to their need to leap from rocky spires and race across the terrain. The most common colors are silver, gray, brown, cinnamon, black and ‘blue’ as well as lilac. Points and tabbies and bicolors are common, smokes and points are uncommon, and solids and dilutes are very rare.

how on earth am i gonna explain my 10 month unofficial hiatus in-story

The Captain stood poised on one of the spires of rock, jutting out from the field, gazing out across the pale golden landscape, her chest swelling with pride. The whole world seemed to have adopted a golden to red color. Autumn was here, and with it, Winter would follow suit. it was a strange time, a mirage of bliss, the calm before the storm. Sarnai basked in it.

In the span of a single moon, her great land had swelled with cats, some passing through, a few staying, the loners and rogues undeterred by the territory's lack of any real scent markers. she had feared the unwanted attention at first, after a few scraps. her ear still stung from the nick it now wore, as proof. However, it soon turned to genius when a few of them turned out to be friendly, and stayed with her!

The first two was a strange tom named Mister Waffles. He traveled with his only son, Sapling. Waffles was a strange one, he never spoke of their past or of Sapling's mother. Sarnai decided it was best left at that, not wanting to upset them.
The two often fought, Sapling wanting to get away from his father, run at his own pace. It was rather strange to watch. Sarnai wondered if it was normal, or simply the stress of change.

The two toms weren't the only new faces however. After their entrance, a few other cats had taken and interest. A large grey she-cat, named Helfyr had turned up during on of their patrols. She had with her a small nurseling, Iteyamus, a fluffy golden tom, Goldenrod, a young white cat, named Birch and trailing along behind them was a shy little she-cat known as Holly, for the sprig of it caught in the fur on top of her head. When Sarnai had pointed it out, Holly merely giggled and insisted it was a choice.

They fit in just fine with the ragtag group, give or take a few tussles and Helfyr general prickliness. Birch in particular fit slotted himself in perfectly with Sapling, the two seeming to bond quickly over their shared annoyance for their parental figure's worrying. Holly wasn't Birch's real mother, but she certainly never missed a chance to dote of him, or smooth down a stray tuft of fur.

Not all was well though. A young white she-cat with scraggly fur and sharp pointed teeth had been spotted as well as scented multiple times and had only ever shown them hostility or wariness. She smelled heavily of herbs and perhaps a bit of carrion. Like a crow that had rolled around in sage.

Itey had been the first to spot her, pointing out the lykoi, as she froze, foxlengths away, jaws stuffed full of marigold and various other plants. She had hurried off shortly after Sarnai and Goldenrod came running, leaving them to only glimpse her white tail-tip.

Itey had been heavily chastised for wandering away from camp after that. Nurselings now were never left unsupervised.

Another loner had made residence too, although they had yet to be spotted. Only their reoccurring scent of smoke ever told them they had been their. Frighteningly close to camp too. A guard was now posted each night.

The final, and, in Sarnai's opinion, Best new arrival had been that of a small, yet sturdy she-cat named Weylyn. She was levelheaded, proud and quite beautiful.

When Weylyn was found by patrol, she held her ground and refused to be chased off, but never unsheathed her claws either. Her bravery was quite admirable and she quickly earned the clan's respect, if not begrudgingly from a few. Mainly Holly who insisted that the newcomer smelled familiar, but couldn't pinpoint were from, as well as Helfyr, who strongly believed Sarnai had made a mistake in trusting her so willingly. Helfyr had voiced her opinion that Weylyn's insistence to join them was suspicious, but Helfyr also thought that the white lykoi was some sort of bad omen. So it was best to take the sour she-cat with a bit of skeptism.

Things were going well, for now. Sarnai could only hold her breath and pray it stayed that way, at least for now.

- An unnamed feline padded through a bush, crushing the dead leaves accidentally. Their collar moved around their neck as they looked back.
"Hey, is this where we're supposed to be going?" they asked another three cats. A silver mackerel tabby replied calmly.
"Of course. Whoever Fang was probably wouldn't lie,"
They nodded. "Course! C'mon, guys, let's keep going. We need to find that gray cat!"
"Remember they have nine incisor teeth around their neck!" called another cat, white paws wrecking the ground as they padded up to the first.
"And that they have blue eyes," said another tabby.
"Nobody could forget that!"

The cat that met the description was found surprisingly easily. His blue eyes gleamed in the light, and his ears flicked with a bit of interest. "Eh?"
The first cat's collar swung around, its blue obvious against its own light fur. "Heyy! You're...Pyrrhus, right?"
The tom nodded his head calmly, "Yes," he glanced at the other three, curious, "That'll be me. How'd you know?"
"We had a message from someone named Fang," the silver tabby replied smoothly, butting the first cat out of the way, "Said to join your...colony of cats, per se,"
Pyrrhus nodded. "I see. Names?"
"I'll introduce us!" the collared cat shoved the silver roughly, but in a playful way.
"I'm Animus. This, is Vulpes," the feline flicked their tail at the white pawed cat, "and this is Imbe," they flicked their tail at a black classic short hair, "and this rude cat is Arno."
"Pyrrhus," introduced the tom. "Come along."
Arno's eyes narrowed. "One, I'm not rude, Animus. Secondly.." he looked to Pyrrhus. "Come along, where, exactly?"
Pyrrhus chuckled. "Too my camp. You came to join my colony, hm?"
Arno nodded firmly and followed the tom, with the other cats following him. Imbe, quite sunset-colored, followed at the back with a slightly amused look.

Pyrrhus's eyes soon looked upon the group of cats. "Figured it out yet?" he asked impatiently, to get a growl from Arno.
"Actually, yes, yes we have," he stated firmly. "I'll be a..Canine."
"Canine of what?" mused Pyrrhus. He found it quite amusing how Arno spoke of it spitefully. Was he thinking it meant dog or something?
"The Molars." finished Arno. Imbes ears raised next, and the blue-eyed Incisor looked to them. "Yes?"
"I'd like to be the Premolar. Those are the herb-collecters, right? And the healers?"
Pyrrhus nodded, then looked to Vulpes expectantly. Vulpes quickly stated, "the Canine of the Hares!"
Pyrrhus soon turned to Animus. "So, you want to be the Canine of the Foxes, then?"
Surprisingly, Animus shook their head no. "Then..what?"
"Just a fox, please," answered Animus, before smiling up at Pyrrhus thankfully.
Pyrrhus huffed in amusement, but nodded and indicated to the forest. "Go do your jobs. You'll get your teeth-vines, like mine, later."
Animus shuddered. "But what about my collar?"
Pyrrhus growled softly, in annoyance. "You'll keep it, I guess. We can stick the teeth to it."
Animus's tongue stuck out, but they dashed off anyway. -

The Ukoo wa Fisi clan, directly translating to “hyena clan” in Swahili, has an aristocratic way of life that has enabled peaceful living and rare moments of fighting for the role of a “leader”. The clan is named as a hyena family for their matriarchal system, where the mollies commonly hold higher ranks and have more of a say than toms. This isn’t to say the group is mostly she-cats though, they’re equal in everything except the option to join the leading council. Whilst upholding their aristocracy belief the group does in fact have a leading council, made up of the more knowledgeable and experienced mollies, working together to make important choices for the group and ensure that life goes by smoothly. The elders of the Ukoo are also able to take part in council meetings due to their experiences and long lives; even the elderly toms are given respect.

common appearance
The appearances of these wandering felines vary quite often, they are likely to have a broader than lithe frame however due to their constant travelling. As far as coat colours, they can range from darker easier to hide pelts, to lighter sun-dappled coats. Their length of fur is more commonly medium to long haired, few will live comfortably with short pelts.

territory
The group is known for often wandering through different territories, setting small camps in various spots all over their current territory. The camps could often be split by types of dens, to ones better suited for rainy days and one for the sunnier & clearer days. Each season the group migrates to a new territory where new camps will be scouted out.

They will be located in the African wilderness, moving from the wild forests to the savannah & grasslands.

naming system
There is no real naming system within the group, a lot of its members decide their own names. Names could include different kinds of clan names, or simply one-word names they may have been given in a life prior.

beliefs/traditions
- the group don't necessarily hold any beliefs in Starclan, but each member is able to have their own beliefs .
- in order to pass their assessments apprentices will be left to wander off into an unknown section of the territory [chosen by the scouts] and navigate their way to a suitable new camp or return to an existing camp. If lost and ultimately failing their assessment a group of scouts will head out to retrieve them but they likely will either have to give up on any "important" roles within the group, or end up leaving the group.

STORY NOTES
→ Gullthroat goes on a patrol alone, hoping to impress Stormstar by dealing with the rogue group problem. This backfires horribly when the rogue's leader sics a pack of dogs on the intruder. Bramwell stumbles across his badly-injured deputy shortly afterwards, and helps him limp back to the main camp.
→ Stormstar is on the war path, stricken with worry for Gullthroat and rage at the actions of the rogue's leader. Admiralfang and Peaches tend to the deputy and sentence him to two months of bedrest.
→ Clark bumps into Bruce and Robin while exploring, and an emotional argument erupts. Clark is still deeply hurt by their presumed abandonment, but he refuses to let them stay out on the streets while dogs are running loose; instead, he drags them to DriftClan's camp for safety.
→ Tiny sisters Muffin and Teddy are entertained by soon-to-be warrior Alfie. Shorepelt, meanwhile, can only think about how her kittens' stumbling speech sounds just like their father's.

--Copperpaw shifts away from interacting with anyone, spending time alone as the StarClan cats get to him and start to recruit him for their 'revenge' on Raptorstar. Three cats are poisoned, including Cicadastar, and Copperpaw stays in the shadows, no one suspecting an apprentice of all cats.
--Cirruspatch and Stratuscloud are worried that this new clan may not have been the right choice. Cirruspatch vows he will find who is doing this, often leaving his newborn kits with Stratuscloud to help in the investigation, especially as Mockingbirdcry is occupied with traveling to receive his four lives, and the leaders are focused on choosing a new deputy.
--Cyclonespark admits her feelings for Thundercloud during their hunting patrol, whilst the pair are working to catch a piece of prey. Thundercloud is filled with nervous energy, but admits he likes her too. The rest of the patrol smiles, Ratscratch and Koabranch picking on the pair, saying they knew it all along.
--Cascadefreckle seeks solace from her kits and from vows that she will keep the clan safe. For Cicadastar.

would've found time away from her duties to help clean her wound and keep her company. but things have changed now.
- blizzardbird's front right leg was cut deep by the hawk's talons, he'll need +1 blackberry leaves, +1 dandelion, and a moon of rest to ensure no
scarring.
- sugarbite's wounds were deeper than every other cat's as he took the brunt of the damage. it was believed he'd make a quick and full recovery
as he was still a young warrior, but was declared deceased the following morning after the medics discovered he wasn't waking up from his final
slumber...

↪ walnutblaze looked on in horror as jackalprance slipped while crossing the stream and hit his head against a boulder. he didn't hesitate to run
after the young tom and drag him back to land before the river took him, quickly announcing that his patrol's efforts should be focused on bringing
jackalprance back to camp instead once they were safe. once they were home, the medics assembled a nest right beside sugarbite, who was still
clinging to his life as well. jackalprance ended up passing much sooner than sugarbite did - walnutblaze's thoughts during both their funerals were
dismal - why was so much misfortune plaguing his clan?
