Jaconbintail wiggled his haunches, lashing his tail as he prepared to pounce. His muscles were taut and his eyes were slits, focused on the small but chunky mouse nibbling in front of him. He raised a paw and the mouse looked straight at him. He tensed up, trying to blend with the tall brown grass around him. It was no use, the mouse scuttled off, and Jacobintail heard approaching footsteps. A familiar calico pelt was shifting the blades of arching grass around the place. The tom stifled a grumble, remembering why he was even out here in the first place.
“Jacobintail.” Moorpelt gasped “What are you doing out here.”
“Well, I was hunting.” he grumbled, looking at the spot where the prey disappeared. Moorpelt connected the dots and her eyes widened.
“Oh, gosh, I’m sorry!” She meowed “I should learn to be quieter when I walk around the forest.” Jacobintail bit back a retort.
“It’s alright.” He sighed “I was only hunting for- well, for…”
“What for?” Moorpelt asked, ears at attention.
“For you.” He said quietly “I wanted...I wanted something as a buffer. Like a gift. I had something I had to ask you, and I thought that would start things off on a good note.”
“Well, we’re already on good terms.” The she-cat giggled “So just ask me!”
“Okay.” He cleared his throat “I want you as my mate. You’re pretty and you’re nice to me, unlike anyone else in the Clan. I know Thistlewing has probably filled your head with garbage about me, but I’m not all that bad.”
“I know.” She said, smiling gently “I don’t make my judgements on people based on others’ opinions. I love Thistlewing, but she never spends any time around you. I do. I know you’re kind behind that barrier of thorns. And as your mate, it’ll be my job to make the rest of the clan see that.” Jacobintail did a double take.
“S-So are you...accepting?” He asked hesitantly.
“Of course.” Moorpelt laughed.
“See when you laugh like that, I feel like you’re not being serious.”
“Yes, I’m serious.” Moorpelt stated with an exaggerated frown. This caused Jacobintail to crack a small smile for a moment before falling back to his usual half-frown.
“Lovely.” He meowed, not purring. He never purred, not even when he was secretly bursting with gratitude as he was now. “Would you care to join me on a hunt, Moorpelt? We can track down that mouse.”
“Sounds like a perfect first activity as a couple.” She nodded, and the two proceeded through the ferns together, pelts occasionally brushing.

Beaverpaw was slightly angry. He watched through narrow eyes as Sharppaw and Sagepaw left happily to take their assessment. He lashed his tail, wincing as it slightly aggravated the broken bone. He wanted to be taking his assessment with them, but he had gotten injured so many times he was still stuck in the apprentice’s den. Now Beaverpaw’s foster siblings were growing up and leaving him behind. His frustration gave way to sadness and exhaustion. He wished he could have learned his skills as fast as the other apprentices. He heard stories of a Darkmask who had failed his assessment several times, but it didn't make him feel any better. He felt rather dumb, laying in the damp dim light of the medicine den with nothing to do other than listen to Pumpkinseed mutter to himself. By now, Beaverpaw knew exactly how to chew up herbs and apply them to wounds. He was a good assistant, even if he was reluctant. He knew Pumpkinseed needed help, but he would become a warrior even if he died trying. He didn’t want to watch more of his friends leave him behind. As soon as he got this blasted leg healed, he would be free.

Ryetail re-weaved her nest. She had added several feathers and tufts of cottonwood to her mossy bed. She and Owlshade were trying for kits, and she really felt sure that it would happen, so she decided to secure a spot in the slowly filling nursery. It seemed like every few seasons, the nursery would have an influx of new mothers. She would watch the new she-cats come and go with their kits, deep down hoping someday she would join them. And now she would.

She wasn’t the only one surveillancing the nursery. Down in a deep, dark, rather damp place, a pair of troubled green eyes were set on the swollen belly of a grey queen.

Ah, it's fine fam. I'm here for the story, so go right ahead and give me a writing prompt! And, i'm not sure whether I like Pine x Hoot or Pine x Cocoa more, lol. I'll let fate and the story decide.

\\ Hootstar crouched there, still. A fox-length in front of him, the unwary rabbit stood, downwind. He shook his tail, lifting it above the thin, slowly growing layer of snow. He was right there, all he needed to do was pounce. He took a sharp breath, and... The wind changed direction, causing his scent to come to the rabbit, who ran immediately. Cursing his luck, Hootstar got up and looked around, knowing that the rabbit was long gone, and blinking out a sudden bit of snow in his eye. The hills were barely distinguishable now, being so bland and white. He sighed, and headed back to camp after his unsuccessful attempt.
As he arrived, almost on cue, the border patrol returned with nobody else. "I didn't expect anyone to be out in this cold, anyway." He told them, but they were still perky. "Actually," Pinefang responded, "We found traces of Cocoaface's sister!
" Pinefang and Cocoaface lifted their tails up, Cocoa's eyes shining. "Though, it does seem a little out of the territory. We were hoping to ask of one of us could go a little farther to see if we could trace her anywhere?" Hootfang looked between the 2 of them, sighing. "Alright, but one cat has to stay and hunt, instead." Cocoaface bounced up with an "I'll go!" With Pinefang shrugging, "Alright then, it's settled."
Cherrydusk slipped into the medicine den, laying down the cobweb and tiny bit of chervil she found at the dip. Sighing, she swept a bit of snow from the outside off of the outmost boulders, laying her tiny herb stock on the rocks. As she went back out one last time for any non-blackened herbs, she looked over at the other cats. "Oh, Hootstar. You're our savior, but why did I have to come during leaf-bare?" //

Hunting Patrols: Hootstar and Pinefang are hunting. Hopefully, once they have more cats, the stress on them will be reduced...

No deaths for now please, other than stillborn kits! i have a plot i'll be setting in motion soon, and i assure all of you bloodthirsty people out there, there will be enough deaths as it is!

Oatkit grinned, Looking up at the tall ledge where Featherstar stood, Fur gleaming in the late evening light. She hardly grumbled As her mother, Talonstep, Brusquely smoothed down a few stray tufts of fur. She was too busy waiting in anticipation to bother waiting for her siblings as their names were called and they strode up to take their place in the growing shadow of the ledge.
“Oatkit, Stormkit, Silverkit, from this day forwards, until you receive your warrior names, you shall Be known as Oatpaw, Stormpaw and Silverpaw. May you serve your clan under Starclan’s watch with honor, wisdom and courage until the very last heartbeat has stilled and your paws touch silverpelt.” Featherstar spoke clearly, her voice echoing throughout the camp. “Your mentors shall be Silverfish, Shrikepounce and Cedarbranch.”
Silverfish approached and she streatched her neck to touch noses with him as the two other new mentors did the same.
Every cat raised their voices, echoing their new names throughout the clearing and Oatpaw smiled broadly. When the voices died down Featherstar dismissed the clan and leaped down.
“Come with me.” Silverfish instructed. “It’s about time you left camp and explored the territory.” With that the two cats walked out of camp for the first time as mentor and apprentice.

When they returned the sun was dipping low on the horizon and Oatpaw’s legs ached. She was about to go into the nursery when she remembered that she was supposed to go to the apprentice’s den now. Taking a deep breath she pushed her way through the vines and walked into the den. Silverpaw and Stormpaw were already tussling with a twig whilst the other apprentices told eachother stories of their training sessions and days. A large black she-cat called her name and Oatpaw could only marvel at how massive she was. “Oatpaw right?” She said, indicating the empty nest in the corner with her nose. “You’re nest is over there.”
Oatpaw nodded and settled down. It felt strange sleeping in a nest all alone without her mother or siblings. She recognized a few of the younger apprentices but the rest were strangers she’d only seen around occasionally.
“I’m Monellopaw by the way.” The large black she-cat mewed. “Over there is my brother, Marepaw, Raven and Crow are the black cats with the long muzzles, Firepaw’s the moody ginger, Brookpaw, Birdpaw, Flypaw and Hazelpaw are over there. Then there’s Hootpaw and Needlepaw, who you’ve probably met, Ploverpaw and Locustpaw are already asleep, and then the last two there are Baypaw and Hawkpaw.” Monellpaw listed the cats off one by one.
Oatpaw nodded, even though she’s already forgotten half the names. “You’re a lot bigger than your brother.” She remarked. Monellopaw nodded.
The other apprentices were settling down too and Oatpaw closed her eyes and drifted off.

Mothflutter curled her body around her six kits, purring deeply. Asterflight and Ridgepelt were there too. Her mate smiled warmly and touched her nose to one of the kits’ forehead.
“Have you thought of names yet?” Asterflight mewed.
Mothflutter nodded. “Two. Veerykit for this little she-kit and Snailkit for this tom.”
“What about Chickkit for this tom and Shellkit for the other tom?”
Mothflutter nodded. “I like those names. I think Splinterkit for her.”
“How about Figkit for the last one?” Asterflight suggested.
Figkit coughed. Ridgepelt narrowed her eyes, studying each kit closely. Suddenly she shoved past Asterflight and grabbed Shellkit.
“What the—!” Asterflight exclaimed and Mothflutter gasped.
“He’s not breathing!” The gray and white medicine cat said, licking him roughly. Asterflight and Mothflutter watched in horrible silence as Ridgepelt straightened up. Mothflutter drew her remaining five kits closer.
“Is he dead?” Asterflight croaked finally.
Ridgepelt nodded, heaving a sigh. Greywing, the only queen in the nursery as the others were elsewhere, cleared her throat.
“I think something’s wrong with that little she-kit.” She pointed out anxiously. Ridgepelt whipped around as Figkit, twitching slightly, let out a low, drawn-out squeal. Then she lay still. Absolutely still.
“No!” Mothflutter snarled. “Foxdung starclan why must you take them! Why.”
Asterflight nuzzled closer to her mate, sighing.

Sugarcane pricked her ears. Somewhere in the distance a sound had reached her ears. A sound she had not heard in many, many moons. She pulled herself up off the rock where she lay, and and landed weightlessly on the grassy forest floor. Following the sound of it she pushed through the mist as it thickened around her until the world was a white blurr. Then it cleared. She was standing in a place she knew all to well. The nursery. It was mostly the same as every other time she had visited since her death, but there were two. Two other glittering forms, lying on the ground. Mewling.
hello. she said. One of them blinked open their eyes which were piercing green. who are you? she mewed. Beside her Graywing stiffened and stared right at her, silently.
The other kit opened his eyes. what are you doing here? he asked.
there will be time for me to answer all of your questions later. For now, it is time for us to go. Figkit hesitated.
what about them? Sugarcane turned and looked at the two sobbing mothers. Despite their sadness they held their remaining kits close.
we cannot help them. Sugarcane responded. they have each other. That is how they will survive.
can we say goodbye? Shellkit asked. Hesitantly, She nodded.
the world is full of goodbyes. It is so saddening isn’t it? Sugarcane murmured as the kits touched noses with the parents they’d never know.
where are we going? Figkit asked as they walked towards the mist.
on. Sugarcane responded as they disappeared.
