Number of Cats: 67

Juniperleap
Juniperleap lay watching her young play just outside the nursery, the only molly of the litter getting beat up by her brothers relentlessly. Juniperleap didn't do anything to stop this but rather watched with a smile on her face. "You'll show them one day you're something to be feared..." Juniperleap whispered to herself. Her eyes drifted into the shade of the nursery where all the other queens spoke together, cooed over each other's kits, whatever other disgusting things queens do for staying 'positive'. They needed to be stronger and Juniperleap knew how... she just needed to play her cards just right. In that moment, an overjoyed father came trotting into the nursery with his tail held high and face beaming. He smiled to his young before going to Juniperleap and grooming her. She sighed deeply. "We need to get this plan through still. We don't have time for smiling and sharing tongues." she scowled before Snaketail could even ask how she was doing or complimenting her for the thousandth time. His face drooped and he looked to the ground in submission. "I understand, what do you need this time my love?" he mewed with a sad sigh. She hissed at his response but then spoke softer to his ear, eyes searching for anyone eavesdropping.
Saltwind
Saltwind emerged from the warrior den with a smile on his face just as the sun was peaking over the horizon, the streaks of light shining bright between the branches of trees and sky painted as a perfect gradient from midnight to fire. He looked back into the den, seeing the sleeping body of a certain she-cat he had been in love with since he came to the clan but never could find courage to ask her paw... despite having the confidence to be deputy of the clan. He sighed a happy sigh and turned back to the beauty of the forest, taking a moment before traveling into the center of the clan with his thoughts clear and bright. He was affected by all the recent deaths like any other cat in the clan, but he was glad knowing they were in the safe arms of Starclan and he would meet them many moons later. He padded across to Timberstar's den and mewed softly to request entry. "You can come in, Satlwind, you don't need to ask for permission." Timberstar said, sitting up as the deputy came in and sat beside his leader. "I just wanted to check on you. You have tired yourself out much and I wanted to offer my paw to help if you'll let me..." he said cautiously, the darkness of the den resembling the thoughts and state of the leader. "Starclan gave me an omen many moons ago and I haven't solved it yet, which is very evident in the deaths across clan." he sighed deeply before continuing, Saltwind sitting patiently. "One scale, one herb. The bramble hides the fear. Secrets roam, death comes. Trust old, fend new."

The two spoke together about the omen for some time, all the way to most of the clan moving about and waking up. "Well one thing is clear, it's about three cats specifically and I would start with Bramblestrike because he is the only one sharing his name with the omen. I hope I helped you figure something out..." Saltwind concluded as he stood and padded out of the den with a smile replacing what was a serious one. His eyes instantly landed on the brightest thing in the forest he could imagine - Fernheart. His heart jumped and he took in a deep breath before moving over to her. "Fernheart?" he croaked nervously with a bashful smile. "Yes, Saltwind?"
"I was wondering if after your training we could go for a walk...?"
"Well of course, I'm leaving right now so I should be back soon."
"Okay, I'll see you when you get back then."
Saltwind leapt with joy once Fernheart turned away from him and hurried off to assign hunting and boarder patrols before Fernheart came back. As he did so...
Snaketail
Snaketail left Juniperleap the opposite than that he came to her with - a tail drooping and ears turned back. Still, he longed for her love and took a deep breath before shaking his emotions away and padding over to Saltwind. "Ah, Snaketail, you came just in time for me to-"
"Sorry Saltwind, but I wanted to request a boarder patrol for just the two of us? I would like to chat..." Snaketail muttered, avoiding eye contact with his deputy as he cuts him off. "Oh... why of course. We will take an evening patrol then." Saltwind beamed, trying his absolute best to give off the warmest smile to ease the worry biting at Snaketail. The father smiled weakly at the response from Saltwind and tried his best to fake a smile and remove the gut feeling stabbing him. "Great, I'll see you when we start then." he mewed then drug himself away to the nursery, slumping next to his "mate" quietly. "Did you get it done?" Juniperleap inquired with a demanding tone. With another sad sigh, Snaketail responded his new hated word. "Yes."
Shadowstride
The depressed queen lay watching Valleyglow's kits play with a heavy heart knowing she can't have kits of her own. She got up and padded over to Twoeyes. "Twoeyes, I'm sorry to ask this of you but I need some time outside the camp... could you watch over m..." she paused as she thought of who's kits these really were. "-My kits while I step out for some time?" she finally meowed to her new friend. Twoeyes only smiled and nodded. "Go take as much time as you need. I'll watch over those two angels while you're out." Shadowstride smiled in thanks and licked Twoeyes before she left to walk about the forest on her own and think things through.
Smokewhisker
Smokewhisker sighed deeply as he thought of what cat he needed to talk to next and try to help "heal". He looked at the apprentice's den... empty. Warrior's den? ...empty. This clan really pushed cat's relentlessly even with heartache. At that moment, he thought of the perfect cat. He rushed to the nursery in search of the eldest queen and... gone. He hissed with frustration before whipping around and stalking off to the medicine den. If any cat was staying in the camp for a session it was going to bethe sick aaaannd... empty. Of all the moons cats have been sick how was this not one of them?! He stormed to the middle of the clan in a huff and plopped down on the ground. Then, he heard a warrior telling their apprentice there would be no training this moon. He turned, interested, to see Cloudpaw now sulking as his mentor turned to leave on a patrol. This was the perfect moment - he knew Cloudpaw was having issues in training lately! Wiping away his frustration he rushed over before Cloudpaw left camp to talk to the older apprentice.
Saltwind
Saltwind watched as Fernheart came back to camp from training Ashpaw in expert hunting and beamed at the sight of her beautiful fur against the late noon sun. "Ready to head out Fernheart?" he said nervously with a shy smile. Fernheart eyed him but agreed, wonder in her eyes as to why Saltwind was acting this way. They traveled into the woods in silence for some time before Saltwind stopped and opened his mouth to speak. Fernheart paused and looked at him with confusion. "Saltwind?"
"Fernheart, I've known you since I joined Fireclan. You are tough to get close to but you're beautiful and gentle and I can't help but fall for you so... will you be my mate...?" Saltwind said, his fur shaking nervously and front paw fiddling with some grass. Fernheart stared at him for some time, Saltwind's heart racing and mind only on rejection, until Fernheart uttered Saltwind's new favorite word. "Yes."

Saltwind and Fernheart returned to camp purring to one another to find Snaketail sitting patiently by the camp entrance with his eyes downcast. Saltwind padded over to Snaketail and nudged his shoulder. "Ready to go?" Saltwind meowed warmly. Snaketail looked up at the calico tom and smiled weakly once more. "Yeah, let's head out." he said, heaving himself to his paws and following Saltwind out of camp.
The pair made it to the boarder without any issues and in near complete silence. "So why did you ask for a patrol with just the two of us?" Saltwind asked in a more serious tone, Timberstar's omen echoing in his mind. "O-oh, uh, I just thought a more relaxed and personal patrol would be good with all the deaths lately..."
"I wasn't aware you were this affected, we can get you to Smokewhisker is you nee-"
"No! That isn't necessary. Uhh... I thought you'd want a more relaxed patrol...?"
Saltwind eyed Snaketail then stopped in his tracks as they reached a river bank. He looked around and before he had the chance to comment, his eyes settled on something shining. "What is that...?" he asked, padding closer to it. Snaketail followed behind with his tail dragging. "A twoleg trap! Snaketail we have to-"
Before Saltwind could finish his words, Snaketail lunged into Saltwind and pushed him into the trap. He howled with pain, the red of blood instantly painting the trap and grass. Saltwind's ribs were locked into the metal teeth as he squirmed helplessly and tried fruitlessly to attack Snaketail. "Why! W-why must you do this!!" he groaned, standing but falling over immediately to his other side. "It's time for new leadership in the clan and you're in the way..." Snaketail's voice quivered as tears ran down his face. "I'm so sorry..." he croaked as he lunged for Saltwind's neck, clawing his sides as he fought against Snaketail. Eventually Saltwind's struggles resulted in Snaketail's eye getting gouged. Snaketail recoiled with pain and Saltwind took the opportunity to push himself to his feet. Wobbling and gasping for breath as he coughed blood, he limped away from Snaketail as fast as he could. Snaketail whipped his head up to see Saltwind's efforts to escape and launched at him again, knocking the injured deputy over and clawing him again. Saltwind howled in more pain as he lay helpless. Snaketail, sensing the weakness of Saltwind, grabbed him by the scruff and drug him to the riverside. He let go and looked into Saltwind's eyes with pain in his own as Saltwind gasped for breaths. "I truly am sorry..." he mewed as he shoved Saltwind into the river. Saltwind fell to the freezing water with only one thing on his mind - Fernheart. Her beautiful white and brown fur against the morning sun. He closed his eyes softly, letting the river thrash him into rocks until he opened his eyes again in Starclan.
Snaketail watched Saltwind get taken by the river before turning to return to camp, thinking what he would say that killed Saltwind and why he didn't bring his body back.

The world has stopped holding its breath, releasing upon the world the fluffiest snowfall any cat can recall. It is just the right ratio of wet to dry to build up soft snowbanks with just the right amount of give to them. With the forest coated in a thin layer of winter wonder but the air only just cold enough to see your breath, the world looks like something out a kits' tale- magical and inviting.

On the outskirts of a large city is a neighborhood that is always evolving. Sometimes it feels as if the changes are meant to harm the community, but in the end things adapt and make the changes benefit in some way.

Territory: A large chunk of the city that has buildings, skyscrapers, alleys, parks and houses.

Dangers: Upwalkers are the main threat to the cats in the neighborhood. They are constantly trying to catch strays, either to take them home and make them as kittypets or take them to the pound to eventually become a kittypet or worse. They are also always changing the neighborhood, adding or removing their nests, anything they can do to create change. Cars, the second biggest threat to the neighborhood cats, though it is learned at an early how to navigate and watch the horrid things. Dogs, not just the ones owned by the upwalkers but strays that roam just as the cats do. Hawks and owls that make their nests at the top of skyscrapers or in the tall trees of parks often hunt the younger and smaller cats as well as the same prey the cats do.

Prey: The neighborhood cats hunt mice (1), finches (1), pigeons (3), sparrows (3), small fish (2). With upwalkers around there are bound to be a few good ones that often leave out kibble (2) for the cats, though it isn’t the most desirable it is food.

Ranks: There is no true ranks in the neighborhood. There is a cat that controls the neighborhood and is almost always on the move, protecting all that reside in their domain. There are alleycats, loners, rogues and even kittypets that roam around. Some cats come and go while others are to scared to leave the plot of an upwalker nest they call home. There can be young cats that become lost or separated from their mothers as they travel and the leader often takes care of them. The leader knows how to use herbs and can heal the cats that need it, though herbs can be hard to come by in the city.

Traditions: There are currently no traditions in the neighborhood.

With the cold of leaf-bare setting in the clan cats of the swamps have been having trouble finding as much prey as they did in new-leaf or even leaf-fall. The cold leader and stone Frostfoot being worse than any cold front that has ever come through hasn't helped the clan either. When the clan started getting more medicine cats it helped, though, because of their up attitudes and generosity. Oakface and Windheart's games help too.

The two prankster brothers lay together in the clan clearing smiling and laughing together, whispering about something mischievous to do next. When Oakface hopped up and began play fighting with his brother Frostfoot came over with a hiss. "You two should stop acting like kittypets and get to work, you don't get to eat the clan's food if you don't work for it." At the sound of Frostfoot's ice, the two stopped and untangled to stand up and confront her. "Keep in mind without letting loose, there won't be a clan to get food." Windheart snapped. The two stared down for a few tail flicks before Frostfoot turned with a huff and left them to their games. "Don't forget to do your patrols." she growled as she walked off. Almost on command, a group of apprentices came bounding over to the two brothers with bright glows in their eyes. "How did you even survive a conflict with Frostfoot?!" Sunpaw asked in disbelief at the confidence of Windheart and Oakface. The two looked at one another and took on the infectious smiles the apprentices bore. "Well when you're big strong warriors like us-" Oakheart started.
"Then it's quite easy to tell off someone colder than the coming snow!" Windheart finished with a wink. The apprentices questioned them further and they sat down to tell of their confidence in dangers like Shadowstar and Frostfoot until their mentors came to gather them up.
Camberpool and Chervilpatch made their way through the forest, Chervilpatch moving slower so that Camberpool has a chance to keep up with his paralyzed hind legs. "So how did you even make it to the clans?" Chervilpatch inquired curiously. "Well I came from Garrisonclan and when the clan got disbanded I figured a cripple like myself would be better of with another clan, so through traveling I found you guys." Camberpool responded happily, not showing an ounce of sadness that he had left his old clan. His bliss for finding Mistclan seemed to outweigh the bad. "How about yourself? How did you come to Mistclan?"
"Oh, I was just found as I was getting ready to give kit. Shadowstar just kind of let me follow him back to the clan and in the seven moons I spent here with no medicine cat ever coming, I decided to take on the job as my little ones went on to be warriors and change the clan for the better." she said, looking off like she could see the past in front of her. "Well I'm glad you became a medicine cat, I'd be so lonely and slow without you!" Camberpool joked to get Chervilpatch back to him. She smiled and nodded to his joke. "I'm glad to deal with you, you dirty hunk of mud."
"Hey, at least I'd have a better chance sneaking up to prey!" he laughed.

"Snaketail, what happened to you?! Why are you bleeding so much?!" Littleheart asked, her mouth agape and ears pinned in shock.
"Oh, well-"
"Where's Saltwind..." Fernheart asked in a weak and shaking tone, her tail low and ears disappearing into her fur.
"U-Uhm, w-well..."
"Give him some space! Snaketail, can you come with me? Hollypelt too." Timberstar interjected, his eyes a fogged sternness.
Snaketail swallowed nervously and padded into Timberstar's den, Hollypelt close behind with cobwebs in her mouth. Timberstar looked around the clearing at all the shocked cats before breaking contact and turning into his den. "Stonebark set patrols." he said as he padded off.
In the darkness and seclusion of Timberstar's den, he sat opposite of Snaketail and Hollypelt. "What happened on your patrol with Saltwind? Where is he?" Timberstar demanded in an icy tone that was unlike anything he ever fashioned. Snaketail sighed and looked down to avoid Timberstar's gaze only to have his head nudged back up by Hollypelt trying to dress his scratches, mostly his eye. "W-Well we were going on a patrol, just the two of us to unwind from the craziness in camp lately, and then a, uh..." he trailed off, eyes searching everywhere as he racked his mind for some kind of excuse. "A, uh, rabid... fox came out and attacked us..."
"A rabid fox? Where is it?" Timberstar said urgently, getting to his feet. "O-Oh! It's, uh, dead by now!" Snaketail quickly said, standing as well to stop the worried leader only for Hollypelt to step on his tail to make him sit again. He turned and frowned at her only to see her flash him a terrifying smile. "Please keep still while I work, lest you want to do it yourself~" she said as her amber eyes seemed to glow like fire. Snaketail shivered and complied. "You both killed it? So what of Saltwind?" Timberstar said cautiously as he sat down. "He, uhm... he got badly hurt and I couldn't find him when I finished off the fox. You see I, uh... think he fell in the river...?"
"Then we should send a search party to find his body."
"U-Uh y-yeah, let's do that..."
"You'll lead the patrol, I will wait at camp in case he makes his way back here." Timberstar said, standing and making his way out of the den to set up the search party. Hollypelt finished applying the cobwebs as Timberstar left and stood. "If I find out it was you that hurt Saltwind and he is anything but half a cobweb from healing, I won't hesitate to meet you in the dark forest..." she hissed. Snaketail stood up, heart racing, and exited the den with his head held lower as Hollypelt's eyes bore into his soul.

the end of the battle against the rogues had very different effects on everyone. heathertuft mourned and deeply missed her mother, but found solace in acornheart, who was always there to comfort her and find the right words to relieve the molly of her pain. cloverpatch struggled to erase the horrible memories of the fight in his mind, but the arrival of a new and handsome tom in the clan seemed to help him take a step forward. lionfrost and cindertooth had grown closer through the hardships that they had faced. other cats had started to bet on who would confess their feelings first. while magpiefeather did lose an eye, he however did not lose his love for his mate and kits, and cherished them even more than before. as for the deputy and the leader, they had completely different reactions in the aftermath of the battle. briarleap learned the true meaning of leading her clan, full of cats that she held close to her heart, into battle. she faced the challenge head on, gained a newfound confidence and maturity, while still maintaining her cheeky and easygoing personality. foxstar, however… it had started out gradually, with small things such as declining an invitation to join a hunting party, or a patrol. his usual cheerful remarks and jokes sounded dull and fake to everyone’s ears, including his own. he grew distant with briarleap, often breaking away from conversations with a feeble excuse and then retreating into his den, where he would spend hours lost in thought, often mumbling under his breath. he would barely sleep, and when he did, it was a nightmare... quite literally. foxstar was haunted by visions of littlestep, howl, and the other rogues. briarleap slept for a few nights at his side, hoping that would solve the matter, but instead was constantly awoken by his whimpers and cries of terror. frostnose eventually solved the issue by giving foxstar a few sleeping herbs, but the ginger tom was still fearful. The leader was now always alert, saw threats everywhere and jumped at every sound. he now spent most of his days tucked away in the deepest corner of his den, his eyes locked on it’s entrance. the clan had started to worry about their leader’s state, and briarleap had finally decided to take action.

after sending off the dawn patrols, the mottled molly stepped in the den, and was greeted with a small meow. foxstar looked horrible. his pelt was no longer shiny and well-kept; it was tangled and wild, just like his eyes. smiling sadly at her mate, briarleap padded over to his dark corner and settled down in front of him. curiosity and fear lingered in his gaze. he felt something was off.
“they’re worried about you, you know.” the tom looked down at his paws at her words, nodding slowly.
“i’m worried,” briarleap whispered, sorrow and pain laced in her voice. his gaze snapped back up, guilt slowly seeping into it. he opened his mouth to reply, but she interrupted him.
“frostnose says you’re sick,” she continued, trying to speak through the lump that was forming in her throat. “he says that the loss of some of your lives sent you into shock; and that’s why you… why you’re not the same.” tears started to tumble down her cheek, onto the cold earth, but she didn’t stop them. “is that true? Is that why you barely talk to me anymore?”
“briar i-”
“is that why you’re not yourself? why you won’t even look at our kits in the eye, why you jump at every sound, why you see invisible threats?,” her voice had gone up in volume, and nearby cats had started to throw concerned glances towards the leader’s den. they were fortunately herded away by magpiefeather. “is that why you don’t love me anymore?,” her voice had cracked into a sob at the end of her sentence, which caused foxstar to finally look up into her teary eyes.
“no. no, i’ll never stop loving you. or our kits.” his words were barely a whisper, partially muffled by briarleap’s now heaving sobs.
“then prove it to me,” the molly sniffed, returning his stare with a determined glare of her own, “prove it to me by stepping out of this damned den and acting like the leader that you are. because you are the leader of this clan, and it’s about time you assume that role.” foxstar broke down even further at her words, his mind and heart divided. briarleap scowled down at her mate fearlessly, her tears drying as foxstar’s had started to wet his coat.
“i can’t,” the tom finally dropped, lowering his gaze once more.
“why?,” briarleap struggled not to scream, her tail lashing in annoyance and frustration. it felt like she had already asked that question a thousand times.
“because i’m scared. because I can’t look at anyone in the eye without seeing their scars, without feeling their pain, seeing their fear and- and… it’s all too much briar. i don’t want to lead anymore cats to their doom.” briarleap stayed silent for what seemed forever, and when he heard her voice, dread filled his heart.
“you didn’t lead them into death’s jaws, fox. littlestep’s group of rogues did,” her tone was low, but the simple mention of the pale-eyed cat made the tom jump. “war and battles almost certainly end in death, that’s true. but standing still and not defending yourself is worse. you’re not going to help your clan by hiding every time there’s a slightest chance of a threat. you have to face it head-on, give it your all and defend your loved ones. that’s what being a leader really is, and that’s what you once were.” foxstar lifted his gaze to meet hard, stone cold eyes. he had never seen her like this. “i fell in love with a tom who would give up his life to protect his family and his clan. not with a scardy-cat who puts his own safety above the life of his clan-mates and fails to complete his duties.” briarleap slammed her paw down on the soil, making foxstar flinch so hard that he fell backwards, crashing into the den’s walls. “we are no longer mates,” the molly stood at her tallest, dominating in size and caliber the shivering and frail form before her. “and you are no longer leader, fox. i will take that responsibility, and i will lead this clan to safety and glory with or without your approval.” turning her back to a cat that she had once trusted, briarstar left the den without looking back, but yet without tears rapidly forming in her eyes.

The most dangerous season for the Clans. Even if there is no snow on the ground, the cold brings the higher possibility of cats getting sick or dying during kitting. Prey and cats alike wish to do nothing more than hide in their dens to avoid Leafbare, reducing the amount of prey found on patrols, as well as reducing the chance to find new cats on border patrols.

↠ Chervilpatch and Camberpool kept up a pleasant, steady banter on the way to gather herbs. Not even the cold of Leafbare could dampen their spirits. It wasn't too long before they had found a patch of herbs not yet grabbed by the Leafbare frost - and started a light, joking argument over what herb it was. Half-joking, Chervilpatch suggested it was bright-eye, indicating the white petals. Following her lead, Camberpool gave his own suggestion of chamomile, which seemed closer to the truth. Eventually, Chervilpatch gathered the herb in her mouth, mumbling that it was definitely daisy leaf they had found, which was correct. The pair of medicine cats then concentrated, hoping to find some herbs that would really help during the cold of Leafbare - and they were rewarded with raspberry leaves. Only one seemed still usable, and Chervilpatch watched in amusement as Camberpool plucked it away with one of his front claws, trying to throw it to her; and missing horribly. Chervilpatch nearly swallowed the daisy leaf she had in her mouth, not having a chance to put it down before Camberpool pulled his antics, which in turn initiated another laughing fit between the two. Finally, happy with their haul, the two headed in, but again good luck won and the two found tansy right outside of the camp.

↠ The patrol seemed to be buzzing with excitement. It really wasn't the four adults in the group that were that enthused about going out on a patrol in Leafbare, but rather the new apprentices were still excited they had the oppurtunity to see more of the territory outside of the camp. It had been stifling, staying in with Frostfoot and Shadowstar - though admittedly, their leader wasn't as bad when they compared him to Frostfoot. At least he usually left everyone alone, being absent and brooding by himself, but Frostfoot seemed to take it upon herself to chastise any cat doing something that even slightly resembled goofing off. The apprentices especially hated it, though after the small spat between Windheart, Oakface, and Frostfoot, the brothers had become somewhat of heroes for the young cats. It was in hushed voices that Sunpaw and Shadowpaw kept discussing what had happened earlier, much to the amusement of their mentors and Mossfur. Shadowstar stayed away from the conversation, and the patrol went normally until Shadowstar growled and everyone froze. The apprentices let out a simultaneous squeak of breathless fear, but it was just a kind looking cat that came forward, looking startled and sheepish. It apologized for trespassing, glancing over at the other cats on patrol as Shadowstar stalked away, tail lashing. It was Mudpatch who apologized for their leader's behavior, and offered the new cat a place to be warm, and have prey. The apprentices started buzzing again, endless questions for the new cat.

↠ Reedface and the rest of the hunters set out with high spirits, thanks to the gentle jokes of Windheart and Oakface. Only Frostfoot, still angered by the conflict between her and the brothers, stayed far away from the other cats' voices, lashing her tail every so often. As it was, maybe it was a bad idea that the rest of the patrol kept laughing or joking, though Gorsepaw's impression of Frostfoot was pretty spot on, because as the day grew shorter and night threatened along the horizon, the patrol still hadn't found anything. A lone mouse had crossed the paws of the warrior once, but it was too quick, darting underneath the roots of a tree before any cat could wrap their claws around it. Defeated, when it was time to head back no one really noticed that Frostfoot wasn't around anymore until she appeared in front of them, a toad between her jaws. It seemed she was the only one with success, and it dampened the spirits of the other cats for a little while, until Windheart pointed out that the only thing the she-cat had managed to catch the past two hunting trips were toads... causing Oakface to snort the rest of the patrol to break into quiet laughter. Maybe they hadn't caught a lot, but they were still bonding over their camaraderie. Besides, not every patrol could be that successful. They all agreed it was just a bad hunting day, and they'd do better next time for sure.

↠ Gorsepaw was happy to be back out and training after the semi-unsuccessful hunting patrol. He decided it would be a good idea to focus more, concentrating on every thing Reedface told him - after all, it wasn't going to be easy swimming in the frigid water. Reedface assured his apprentice he would dive in the moment Gorsepaw felt too cold or too tired to swim anymore, and watched like a hawk the moment Gorsepaw waded in. The young tom didn't seem to really mind the cold, venturing as far as his paws could touch and glancing back at his mentor. At Reedface's nod, Gorsepaw allowed himself to be fully in the water, taking a few quick strokes out before turning and coming back, just as Reedface said. He continued this zig-zag pattern for a little while, until Reedface told him he didn't want Gorsepaw catching a cold, but he had done so well with the cold water temperatures Reedface would pass him for his advanced swimming lesson. Reedface made sure the young tom dried off, using some dry moss he had collected for this lesson, and Gorsepaw didn't even seem to be in danger of catching a cold. He was a tough cat, Reedface thought, proud of his young charge.

↠ Sunpaw was focusing seriously on Mudpatch's instructions. The one on one time with her mentor, away from her siblings, seemed to be very good for her mindset. Mudpatch usually only had to explain things once, and Sunpaw was picking it up, demonstrating the combat techniques Mudpatch thought might even be too hard for a new apprentice. The older she-cat was glad she was proven wrong, impressed by just how well Sunpaw picked it up. There was no doubt in either cats' mind that Sunpaw had passed this piece of her apprenticeship, and had passed like she was born for it. It was such a turnaround from last training session's failure, when the young cat wouldn't focus at all, Mudpatch was almost dazed by the time they were to head back in. She praised Sunpaw, hoping that the young she-cat could keep this amount of focus for her next training session.

↠ Over with Blizzardear, Shadowpaw didn't seem to be having as great of a time as Sunpaw. The young tom had complained the whole way to the fishing spot that he had to get his paws wet on a day like today, in Leafbare, despite Blizzardear telling him that they could still catch fish in Leafbare. Blizzardear was nearly ready to call the training session off before they even began, but they saw Reedface and Gorsepaw over by the water, just finishing up from their own session. Shadowpaw paused, mouth hanging open, in the middle of his latest complaint about frozen claws, seeing Gorsepaw shake water from his pelt. "Be glad I'm not making you stick more than a paw in," Blizzardear growled, just loud enough for the apprentice to hear. Shadowpaw did shut up after that, hoping Blizzardear wouldn't make him swim after seeing Gorsepaw swim. But it was only fishing, and by the end Shadowpaw had sworn he felt a minnow, and Blizzardear was about to tell him it was probably just algae when the apprentice flung a minnow out of the water. Surprised, Blizzardear told him it was enough and that he had passed, bringing the fish back in to camp.

↠ Quite the talker, Lightpaw was. Barkpatch didn't mind though, keeping the conversation flow steady as he showed Lightpaw proper stances and moves to hunt well. The tom would get distracted easily, but picked up on the techniques fairly well, even if he wouldn't be able to catch anything without some more practice. When he wasn't talking, and was focusing on his stalking method, the white and ginger tom was actually pretty good. The two stayed out a little longer than necessary, perhaps honing Lightpaw's skills to make sure he really knew how to hunt before his first patrol. Barkpatch hoped that the lesson would pay off, even though it was Leafbare. Lightpaw was confident, however, and maybe that was all he would need...

↠ It was almost like old time's. Since the two had came into the Clan together, it seemed fitting that Skyear was now the mentor of Hickorypaw. The two got along well, and Hickorypaw knew Skyear's training methods already. Though the tom hadn't formally taught Hickorypaw anything, she had spent a lot of time watching what he could do and imitating it. It seemed to be a fortunate thing for Hickorypaw, as she was a little terrified of climbing the large tree she was set against, but as she closed her eyes she remembered Skyear scaling a much bigger tree with ease. She had the mental image of him using his back legs more than anything, and that was what he told her as well, and in her first try Hickorypaw was up the tree. Being a little more cautious and aware of her surroundings than Gorsepaw had been when he first tried climbing, having been told about that one lesson by Gorsepaw himself, Hickorypaw made sure she knew how to get down before she even came up. Nearly without any help at all, and just the tiniest bit of instruction from Skyear, Hickorypaw puffed her chest out in pride that she had managed to climb the tree and get down in one lesson.
