LORE The House of Night was founded by a cat that was blessed by the goddess Nyx, whom this group looks to and reveres. Because of this, this group views females as more important than males. Only a female can lead this group.
TEMPERAMENT This group is very calm and collected, cool-headed about almost everything, not quick to fight and always ready to talk rather than draw blood. However, this does not make this group a bunch of push-overs. They are highly skilled fighters and will do anything to protect their house-mates and their territory.
RELIGION Nyx is the highest goddess that the group reveres, often described as a pitch black cat with white stars dotting her pelt and a glowing white marking in the middle of her forehead. It is with this cat that all other cats descend, and this cat gifts other cats with their magical essence. Nyx is the highest order of law in the group, and she is the final say in everything.
Nyx has set this group up according to the old ways of medieval knights, having seen that the structure would be the best way to govern a group. The House is led by a High Council, one cat from each element is chosen as the representative of that element within the clan, and that council is led by the Spirit Keeper. The Spirit Keeper acts as the ultimate voice of Nyx, as well as the healer of the group. This cat is held to many strict rules and restrictions under this oath, and they are only allowed to act as the tie-breaker in house decisions.
The way a cat joins the high council is by being chosen by Nyx herself. When a High Council cat retires or dies, Nyx will decide which cat will replace them.
Cats of this group look slightly different from other cats. When born, all cat have pure black eyes. When the cats are ready to be apprenticed, their eyes change to one of four colors, gold for the air element, green for the nature element, red for the fire element, and blue for the water element. When the cat becomes a full warrior of the group, it gets a symbol in the middle of it's forehead in the same color as it's given element, but each symbol is unique to the cat in question. When a cat is chosen to join the high council, then it gains "the mark of Nyx" on their chest in the color that corresponds with it's element.
The Cat chosen as leader is marked differently. When the cat gains the blessing of Nyx and ascends to leadership of the clan, then all their markings and eyes turn a vivid purple. There can only ever be one cat with purple markings in the group, if the previous leader is still alive when they step down, then their markings revert to their original elemental color.
if any of the council members or leader are still alive when they are replaced, then they lose the "marking of Nyx" from their chests as it is bestowed onto their replacement.
