The forest had began to flicker with life as an early morning sunrise awoke it. Gingerstar had awoken from her slumber and rose her head outside of the den in pride. The rays of light that glimmered through the trees had managed to get caught into the young leader's eyes and she snapped her lids shut. Only yesterday she had rescued some survivors from the fall of Badgerclan. It had been said a simple storm had wiped out most of the clan, yet the few survivors she had found decided to stay with her. She emerged from the den and cast a glance at the Medicine Cat Den. Wolfmoon and Hollypaw had laid there, the only warrior left had been Pepperfrost. For sure they needed more warriors, she had heard Wolfmoon talk of the Place Of Shine. A lake hidden inside of
a cave filled with crystals, crystals that two-legs had used to make themselves shine. Maybe she'd get lucky and find a warrior, as she got lost in thought she had heard paws behind her. She quickly turned around to find the small calico she-cat, Hollypaw. "Um.. Good Morning, Hollypaw" Gingerstar spoke, beginning to settle down.. "Good Morning.. Gingerstar." the she-cat simply said, standing in a neat position. "I'll be heading off to The Place Of Shine. Please tell Pepperfrost to go on a hunt when she wakes up, the clan needs more food" Gingerstar simply said. Hollypaw had given a nod and off went the leader into the wood.

Anhingstar listed to Shellclaw's story, before granting the Oceanclan's warrior permission to live with them. Showing the way back to camp, he quickly explained what was going on and now that Shellclaw was a warrior of Platjaclan. "Even if he is from a different clan, please treat him with respect as we all came from different situations," he meowed, nodding at the older tom. "'While Bramblemist is hunting for herbs, we need to stock up on fresh-kill," he meowed, meaning they'd all hunt together for the day.

heatstar was marching back to camp, the small apprentice trailing behind him like a lost puppy. he almost snarled in anger, but remembered the 'paw didn't know where the camp was. he was hoping to put him in his place soon. He didn't want to train the apprentice but because they had no soldiers, he would have to do. he stopped at the entrance of his camp, there were so many new faces! "What in starclan's name is going on!"

A stunning she-cat slithered forward, "I know how to build a clan, that's what's going on..."

"Who in the blazes are you?" He snarled, his dark pelt rippling in anger.

She snapped right back at him, "One of your allies, Heatstar. Starclan sent me. I'm Kindlestar, and I already have my lives so don't even try to kill me, pea-brain."

"Fine. Fine. Fine. I asked for starclan to send you anyways, but who are all those cats! There were only four of us like three days ago?" He asked, trying to diffuse the tension. He could have a hatred for yarrowscar, but Kindlestar would be his ally, and she would need to be able to tolerate him.

"Igor and Krampus, the ones with the weird stuff on their heads, are some soldiers for you, came in a couple hours after me. And those two she-cats I recruited for my hunters. That apprentice standing behind you like some mouse-brain is all yours."

Heatstar gnashed his teeth, he did not like that the camp had expanded so quickly. "Fine, what are the two she-cats names?"

"Hickorypelt and Foxglovejaw."

"What a mouthful! Starclan didn't give you any naming ability huh?"

"Fine. Give your apprentice a name, better than mine."

Heatstar lashed his tail, "He already has a name. It's Deathpaw."

"Deathpaw! What an aweful name! And you said I was bad! Geeze. Poor kid."

With so many kittens in the clan the fluffy white tom let out a small sad sigh, his eyes resting on the entrance of the nursery. Many tiny meows coming from the well protected den. Ghost although content with his life in HazeClan, felt as if he was missing something, that something being kits. Haunt and himself had always talked about having kits back when they lived in MintClan, then their lives turned upside down when MintClan disbanded. Letting out another sigh, this time heavier then before Ghost turned away from the nursery unable to look at it any more.

Haunt returned from his patrol his bright yellow eyes landing on the fluffy white pelt of his mate. Smiling, the black tom trotted over to Ghost and nuzzled the white tom affectionately. "Hello there love. How was your day?" he purred, sitting next to the tom and wrapping his tail around him. Ghost gave a small shrug,although upset his eyes seemed to continue to gaze upon the nursery. Sensing something was wrong, Haunt frowned a bit. "Talk to me Ghost... I can't fix it unless you tell me what's wrong." he meowed softly.

Knowing he wouldn't be able to hide if from Haunt much longer, Ghost looked his mate in the eyes. "I miss our old home. I know we can never return and I am grateful for Hazestar taking us in and giving us a new home. He even allowed us to keep our old names. I just miss it, because back there we had cats who where willing to help us start a family. Now... Now how are we gonna start out family? It was our dream Haunt..." Ghost explained, his voice cracking a bit.

Haunt frowned a bit, his ears flattening against his head for a brief moment before remembering some information about a few of the she-cats in camp. "Maybe we still can. I remember hearing that Turtledove, Bearclaw, Aspencreek, and Dappledwillow talking about being surrogates for cats in need. I mean look at Turtledove! She's the mother of Dandelionkit, Dovekit, Finchkit, and Cricketkit and yet she's giving them to their father Falconflight in QuickClan so he and his mate Cyanslash can have a family. I mean those three are close so it's not like she won't ever seem them again. If she wasn't already helping others out I'm sure she'd help us." Haunt explained, a smile on his face.

Ghost's mood quickly did a turn around, his sad mood flying away and a large smile forming on the tom's face. "You know I totally forgot those she-cats said that. It's perfect! Plus I already know who to ask." the white tom purred. This caused Haunt to tilt his head a bit, his smile still remaining on his face. "Oh yeah? Who then?" he chuckled. "Dappledwillow and Aspencreek. I would have said Bearclaw, but she lost two of her kits back in the heat wave... I wouldn't want her being heartbroken to have to give up kits for us." Ghost explained.

The two toms talked it out for a bit before each giving one another a small nod and rising to their paws. Haunt lead the way over to the fresh-kill pile where Aspencreek and Dappledwillow sat, the two she-cats talking among themselves about how their patrols went. "Excuse me. Ladies?" Haunt meowed, causing the two she-cats to look to him and Ghost. "Oh Haunt it's you. How are you darling?" Dappledwillow purred. Smiling, Haunt gave the she-cat a small head bow before speaking. "Just fine thank you. We have come to discuss an important matter with the both of you if that's alright." he stated. Aspencreek gave a small nod, flicking her tail to the spot next to her. "Of course. Have a seat you two." she meowed.

Once the two had settled in next to the two she-cats Ghost was the one to speak next. "So Haunt and I where talking and remembered that the two of you would accept being surrogates for those in need... It's been rough for all of us and with us, myself mostly being homesick we have decided to start our dream of having a family. We wanted to know if..." Ghost meowed, his nerves getting the better of him towards the end. "If you would be okay with carrying a litter for each of us. We also know it's a lot of ask, but would greatly appreciate it" Haunt piped in, finishing his mate's sentence. Exchanging looks between them, both Aspencreek and Dappledwillow gave one another a small nod and smiled. "We'd love to help get your family started." Dappledwillow purred. Aspencreek gave another nod to the tom's a smile on her face as she did so.

sweetfeather and arch, or a surprising lack of sibling rivalry.
there was a gross squishing sound as sweetfeather walked through the alleyways, melting snow mixed with twoleg rubbish underpaw. at the beginning of his journey the stub legged tom had been disgusted by the pathway, but as he let his mind wander he stopped thinking about what he was walking on.
he had left at dawn, slipping out through the warrior's den, he left the main gathering area, passed the hunter's green and reached the sourthernmost border, and crossed.
as soon as sweetfeather was over the border, he noticed the turn of the thunderpath back into the city, the building and twoleg dens consumed by tall oak trees. leaves replaced rubbush in the snow concoction, and the unappealing squish shifted into a pleasing crunch.
as he headed firther into the woods, he began to pick up the scent of other cats, the same scent from when he first met with the forest rouges moons ago. swallowing his fear, sweetfeather continued to push through the trees and underbrush, all the while thinking about how happy he was that he lived in the city instead of having to deal with the constant presence of thorns, and the possibility that they'll stick themselves in his paws and coat.
the woods became more familiar as he got closer to their meeting spot. he recognized the eerie darkness and lack of noise, the silence more creepy than calming. up ahead he could spot the clearing that he was to be at, and the scent of the rouges got stronger as well. when he thought of the rouges before meeting them for the first time, he thought they would have matted pelts, clawed ears, and a bad scent, but they were surprisingly strong and smelled strongly of the forest and undergrowth.
the moon hit just the right spot through the canopy of trees and a beam of light shot down into the forest, illuminating the sleek figure of arch. sweetfeather's ears twitched when his eyes landed on his sister, and the anxiety he had forced down earlier began to come back. the short tom begged himself not to show any sign of weakness, or these rouges might not take him seriously. shaking out his pelt, sweetfeather stepped through the bracken and emerged into the clearing, where arch and her rouges waited. they looked at him, gazes harsh, and sweetfeather felt himself become stiffer.
arch stood up from where she was sitting, and approached her brother. when she caught his scent her nose turned up. "you stink of crowfood," she hissed, and the other rouges visiualized their disgust.
sweetfeather had nothing to say back in the moment, so he paused for a second before gathering enough wit to reply, "sometimes we have to get by in laurelclan." after he said it he realized he shouldn't have, because every other cat seemed almost shocked to hear such a thing. it wasn't even true, they had plenty of food, but now these cats thought that he was a member of a starving clan.
"you look surprisingly plump," commented one of the rouges. he was scarred and muscular, a brown tabby with amber eyes, and he was sitting with his tail over his paws towards the back of the group. the others murmured their agreement.
"lovely observation, iago," responded arch, maintaining eye contact with sweetfeather. her tail curled in amusement, and she took a pace closer to her brother. "you aren't... stealing food now, are you?"
normally sweetfeather would deny such a claim, but the way the eyes of the rouges lit up when she mentioned stealing made him stammer over his words a little bit. "o-of course i do," he said, feeling a slight shake start in his paws. he had expected a nod of respect or something from the rouges, but instead they burst out into laughter.
"this tiny tom, stealing food from his starving clan?" cackled a small patched molly. "absolutely hilarious!"
"alright, tamora," arch said, seeming serious but a tinge of humor cracked through. "let's not be rude." she turned back to sweetfeather, and dipped her head towards him. "we'd be happy to help you out, brother," she mewed, a twinkle of mischief in her eyes.

the apprentices, or their mentors don't really know what they're doing
"come on, adderpaw!" squeaked a tiny voice. the silence of the city park was suddenly interrupted by a burst of apprentices, their mentors following more slowly, and releculantly, behind. all of the young cats ran around, pouncing on each-other and playfighting. shaking his head, cormorant spoke up first.
"alright everyone," he said, and the apprentices fell silent, looking towards him. he was a cat that everyone in laurelclan had a lot of respect for. "your mentors and i have brought you all here today to train. we haven't been training you all together as often as we hoped we would, so initiative was taken and now we're all here together. today we will be focusing on fightining together as a team. it's a tactic that every cat should be familiar, because you never know when you're going to neeed to know it." cormorant beckoned forward with his tail, causing heronfoot, cindertuft, and shadetooth to step forward. they took position, heronfoot facing cindertuft and shadetooth, who were standing side-by side. cormorant nodded, and continued. "as you can tell, cindertuft and shadetooth are on the same team. they're fighting against heronfoot. claws seathed, they will show you what it looks like when you're fighting in pairs." he stepped back, and signaled for the three toms to start.
heronfoot lunged at shadetooth, and cindertuft jumped in to distract the attacker. together, the two toms pummeled at heronfoot, and eventually got him off of shadetooth. the pair stood on their hind legs, and with their front paws they struck their enemy. heronfoot shook off their paws and attacked again. this time the two toms jumped in opposite directions and heronfoot ran right through them, causing a giggle to erupt from the watching apprentces. shadetooth and cindertuft weaved in between eachother, confusing heronfoot and making him spin around. shadetooth and cindertuft moved to both sides of heronfoot, and they leaped at him, pushing him down and gaining control. finally, heronfoot yowled "i yield!" and the two toms backed off.
cormorant glanced to the apprentices. "find a group of three, and your mentors will join you. good luck."

bearstar, or a serious whodunnit mystery, but it's who knocked up shellstorm
bearstar stormed out of the nursery, shaking his head. first rowanfeather, now shellsong? why was he always the one who was betrayed? his gaze hardened, however, when it landed on the muscular figure of wolfthroat. the commander approached the warrior, lips drawn back in a snarl. "some nerve you have," he hissed, lashing out with his paw and striking the tom in the face. "you, a mighty warrior, thinking you can go behind my back and get involved with my mate?"
wolfthroat stumbled back and shook off the blow, eyes narrowing. "your mate?" he scoffed, lashing his tail and closing in on bearstar. "you've knocked up so many mollies in your life that nobody knows how many damn kits you have. you don't even know how many kits you have."
the commander snarled. "what happened in my past has nothing to do with the present," he said, claws unseathing. he fluffed up his coat, attempting to frighten wolfthroat, but the elder tom didn't seem to respond to bearstar's efforts. "those kits were supposed to be mine, wolfthroat. but you've gone and stolen them from me."
the nursery leaves shook as shellsong emerged, and locked eyes with wolfthroat.
"i told you to stay in the nursery, shellsong," bearstar said, turning to face the pregnant she-cat. "this is none of your business."
"it is definitely my business!" the molly hissed, hackles rising. "these are my kits you're talking about, and you think that there is no place for the mother to talk about the future of her kits?" fury danced in the molly's eyes, and tears began to shimmer as well. "you act like you care about these kits, bearstar, but they're the last things on your mind. you have so many kits that if you wanted a litter so badly you could go to any molly. plus, bearstar, you have your own kits, damnit! in this clan! and i've never seen you talk to them or act like you are vaguely interested in them! they've had to be raised by their mothers, and especially in the case of sootwhisker, their mothers were never there for them. they both died before their kits were apprenticed! and you could have been a good father and helped out but you were too busy knocking up other mollies that you didn't even notice. so what makes you think that these kits will be different? wolfthroat was always there for me, through my first, second, and now my third litter. you never talk to me unless you want something. so no wonder i went with wolfthroat instead of you."
bearstar swallowed, not being able to speak.
"out," he finally said, voice breaking slightly. "out, both of you. if you care more about these kits than you do about this clan, then leave. you're traitors, and i never want to see you again."
and so they left, bloomwhisker calling after her mother but was held back by rowanfeather, who watched knowing perfectly well that it could have been her who was walking out.

leaf-fall
as the clans enter leaf-fall, their prey starts tox
hide away, going back to their dens and only com
ing out in the early morning, making it less likely
to catch a lot of prey, so it's a good decision to
start sending out more hunting patrols. as the
cold settles in, herbs start becoming more sparse
especially kitting herbs. kittings will be harder
and the chance that the mother or kittens may
die, so stock up on fennel, chervil, ragwort
and raspberry leaves. the lack of prey doesnt
only affect the clans though, and the chance of
encountering predators rises.

↠ Leaf-fall was truly settling in, bringing a cold windy day for Frostfoot, Shadowstar, and the newly acquired Barkpatch to deal with during their border patrol. He indicated behind a large oak tree, and with a silent nod, the three surrounded it. “Wait, I’m sorry!” A panicked voice sounded from behind the tree, and a warrior aged cat stepped out. “I was just very curious about you, and I wanted to see where you were going. I’ve never seem more than a couple cats grouped together.” Perhaps this cat would be a new friend, someone to talk to and break the silence, Barkpatch thought, hoping that they could bring this cat in as a warrior.

↠ The five warriors and one apprentice had been hunting for what seemed like forever. The sun was already beginning to make its descent, and the slight warmth it had given to the cats’ pelts was leaving. The wind was the worst part, ruffling up the cats’ fur the wrong way, causing the ones with shorter fur to shiver. No one wanted to say anything, but it almost seemed like the patrol would have to go back empty-pawed, and unfortunate thing to happen during a colder day. But it was the youngest among them that had an idea – to go fishing instead. Reluctantly, for the water was sure to be cold, the others agreed, but only because there seemed to be nothing with feet running about today. They looked expectantly at one another before Windheart volunteered to be the one to stick his paw in the water. At first, it seemed fruitless, but after a bit of patience and good timing by Windheart, the patrol was rewarded with a fish nearly the size of Gorsepaw. It was with happier hearts that the patrol headed back to camp with their catch.

↠ It was time again for the training session for Gorsepaw. Perhaps the time had come for him to properly scale and get down from a tree, and demonstrate the proper climbing techniques Reedface would want him to have. At the encouraging nod from Reedface, Gorsepaw padded up to the base of the large oak tree, thinking of his failure last moon. It was true that he had scaled the tree easily, triumphant that he had made it to the top. But, as the branches swayed in the wind, fear took the place of his happiness – he had forgotten Reedface’s instruction on how to get down. He did panic a little, calling Reedface for help, needing his careful guidance to get down. He vowed to himself to listen fully to Reedface’s instruction this time, and nodded in determination once Reedface was completely finished giving instructions. Breaking into a short sprint to get speed, Gorsepaw scaled the tree easily, taking a deep breath once he found himself on the branch he was to aim for. He gave Reedface a short nod before he carefully made his way back down. He was met with the sparkling eyes of his mentor, proud that his apprentice had learned his lesson. Gorsepaw was elated, having passed his climbing training with flying colors.

the overwhelming temperatures that lingered from green-leaf have died down. the season is leaf-fall, warm-colored leaves are
dropping from branches, blanketing the green forest floor. birds are flying south and rodents are starting to prepare for hiber-
-nation. chiller winds ruffle highgarden's pelts and cats are trying their best to stock up for leaf-bare. your medicine cats better
stock up on their herbs; kitting herbs especially if they want successful births. predators are scouting harder for meals.

a. tawnyrose's hunting patrol splits into two pairs, bluecrest with flickersky and
tawnyrose with dippernose. tawnyrose and dippernose scouted the area, keeping themselves on their toes
as they danced around the crinkled leaves below them. before too long, they spotted a pair of rodents
running in the undergrowth. despite their advances on trying to catch the mammals, they skidded under
wedges too small for their paws to fit through. the pair admitted defeat before stalking towards the spot
where they would reunite with the other half of the patrol mates. to their luck, bluecrest and flickersky
manage to bring back one big fish. the queen was disappointed, but it was better than nothing.

b. softglow leads her patrol through the area of the territory after checking the perimeter. patrol
mate smallheart watches the leaves periodically fall and from there, the feline spots a rouge kit clinging
onto a tree's branch. smallheart stops her patrol mates and reports her discovery before the whole patrol circles
around the tree's base. the rouge kit looks at the group wearily before climbing higher into the tree. the kit
clearly thinks that the group is a threat but with patience and persistence, they manage to coo the little kit
down and bring the kitten back to camp.

c. hornetpaw seems to be very confident that they would succeed in learning to swim. after all, how hard
is it to insert yourself in water and advance? apparently, very hard because hornetpaw almost drowns in
the water. if it weren't for dippernose, eyeing their thorn's every move, hornetpaw would've definitely lost his life
on that day. hornetpaw fails to learn swimming. how about you try something easier to learn? after all,
hornetpaw did just started their apprenticeship.

d. merlinsong looked high and low throughout the territory. under dense thickets to the gaps in bark. merlinsong
nosed around the undergrowth and the shrubby vegetation until finding catchweed. the herbalist left claw marks
onto the nearest tree's trunk so they wouldn't forget the area. they found it pretty useful marking areas with
bountiful growing herbs for later use. with +1 catchweed in her jaws, he spots a solitary shrub with small yellow
flowers on it's bare branches. recognizing it as a broom, he snaps some off to add to his collection. satisfied with
searching, merlinsong pads back to camp, adding +1 catchweed and +1 broom to her herb storage.
