The wolf growls, low in its throat, at a buggy abandoned on the side of the road. The tall, broad-shouldered man walking beside it, pauses and glances from the canine to the buggy, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “Rogue? What’s wrong?” Rogue doesn’t stop growling, sharp, piercing eyes fixated on the buggy, unmoving. And so, the man steps forward, cautiously. “Hello? Is anyone there?” There’s a pause. “Yes.” Obviously not expecting an answer the man blinks. “Show yourself.”

Hands raised in surrender, an older blonde male steps out from behind the buggy, a pair of sunglasses slipping down his nose. He looks sheepish, standing there awkwardly, and Rogue huffs, obviously wary of the man.

“You’re a survivor. What’s your name?”

The blonde licks his lips nervously, shifting his weight from foot to foot, glancing uneasily at Rogue. “Carl. Carl Brisbane. Who’re you?”

“Chris Takis.” At least Carl isn’t a walker. “I’m a warrior of the Realm of Wolves.”

Carl blinks. “The Realm of....Wolves?” His eyes dart down to Rogue, who’s lips curl, and Chris nods.

“We’re a group, of survivors.” Chris pauses. “If you want, I can take you to Marwan, our leader. And maybe you can join us...if you’d like.”

“I don’t have any other options.” Carl says, flatly, slowly lowering his hands. “Take me to Marwan...Please.”

Chris leads Carl through the winding hallways of the castle in which the Realm of Wolves has lived for centuries, and into the throne room. Marwan, as is custom as Lord of the Realm, sits on the throne. But what is more surprising, is Mai is there, with another stranger. Conversation stops as Chris and Carl enter, and Marwan’s eyes shift over to them.

“Chris, who is this?”

Chris glances at Carl, who isn’t really paying attention - he and the stranger are looking at each other.

“Carl Brisbane. I found him in the city.” At his name, Carl tears his eyes away from the stranger to look at Marwan.

“I’d like to join you, if you’ll have me.”

After a moment, Marwan speaks. ”You must understand, we are not barbarians. We have laws, customs.”

“It’s not like I have anywhere else to go.”

Marwan considers his words for a moment, then nods and turns to Chris. ”Which position do you think he will have most success in?”

“Hunter.” Chris responds, immediately.

”Very well. Carl, welcome to the Realm, as a Hunter. Ahmed will get you and Allef both acquainted with the laws, traditions, and the Realm itself.”

• the search for medicine went rather quietly, with no encounters of the undead, no animals, items, or survivors in sight. however, james hits the jackpot on supplies and gathers-up both antibiotics and ibuprofen.
• james, rosalind, & nyx manage to track and kill a large bird (four servings) and a mouse (one serving) along their hunting patrol.
• james, rosalind, & nyx embark on a border patrol, where, at first, things seem to go smoothly ... that is, until, a walker appears on their trail. luckily, nyx manages to help defend the small patrol, and no injuries are obtained.

• bryn, mira, & hosanna manage to track and kill a small fish (one serving) along their hunting patrol. returning on horseback, they hear a and shuffling in the area──and as they approach, they discover a survivor. will they take them in and appoint them to the ranks?
• bryn & hosanna embark on a scavenging patrol, suddenly attacked by an oncoming sprinter once lurking in the shadows. bryn receives an open wound which will take two posts of rest in order to heal without the proper medicines. no matter the injury, they still manage to gather some wood, which they bring back to camp.
• leo & bryn's search for medicine leads them to uncover some painkiller, which they return back to camp with.

Curtis raises his arms cautiously in an attempt to show the stranger that the two were harmless, but the lady just stood there, broken glass in hand as she points it towards them, hands trembling and eyes widened in fear.

Zachary frowns, fists clenched and ready to fight back, but Curtis attempts at a smile to show friendliness, hands kept tight around the reins of Cirtha.

“We mean no harm, we’re survivors, just like you.”

Curtis notices a brief flash of relief crossing her expressions, as if she couldn’t differentiate before that the two were not one of the infected. Hesitantly, she lowers the weapon, concern evident in her demeanour as her lips pursed in a thin line.

”Get away, you ugly beast!”

It’s not the best thing he can say, but it’s something as the sprinter lunges toward him, sharp teeth bared, hands with curved nails reaching for him, and he wants to puke. Hosanna rears, hooves flashing and a high, shrill sound rips from the destrier, but not in time as Bryn screams as the sprinter’s sharp teeth dig into his shoulder. Moments later, Hosanna’s hooves come crashing down and Bryn shouts in agony as the sprinter lurches away before crumpling to the pavement of the abandoned street. If twitches once, and then falls completely still.

He’s left trembling, shaking until his teeth chatter, blood pouring from the wound on his shoulder as he stares at the dead - completely and utterly dead - sprinter, before he turns, lips pressed tightly together as his stomach roils, heaving himself up onto Hosanna’s saddle, reins gripped in one hand as he gently nudged her sides with his feet. ”Come on, gal. Let’s go home.” He grunts softly with each jolt, but he knows the destrier can’t help it, is trying to make the ride back as smooth as possible.

He only halts her once, slipping down from the saddle to place a piece of wood in her saddlebag before heaving himself back on once more, and they don’t stop again until they reach the Nighthunter base. Mira hurries out to meet them, eyes widening at the blood from the wound, but doesn’t say anything, just helps him off Hosanna before leading the destrier out to the pasture. She returns a moment later, an arm curving around his back to steady him as she helps him inside.

“Leo!” She calls, and the doctor appears a moment later, happy expression quickly morphing into one that is grim as he rushes over, arms curling around Bryn, careful of the blood that soaks his shoulder.

“I’ve got him from here.” He says, and Mira nods, glancing at Bryn uncertainly before hurrying off. Leo leads him into the room that the two share - which also functions as the doctor’s workplace - sitting him down before warning it’s going to hurt as he cleans the wound.

Bryn hisses, but lets Leo do his job. His hands are gentle as he works, and it brings a small smile to his face despite the pain - it’s adorable, his eyebrows scrunched in concentration.

“What happened?

”It was a sprinter.” Bryn explained. ”Came out of nowhere. It got me before Hosanna killed it.”

Leo hums in understanding before wrapping a piece of cloth around the wound. “There. And now,” He pauses, leads Bryn over to the bed, who obediently lays down and he wraps the blankets around him, “You need to rest.”

• upon lucian's second round of resting, his injuries have completed healed and the doctor can confirm that he is well-enough to rejoin the ranks.
• james' search for medicine, also enacting as a scavenging patrol, leads him to gather a package of benzo among the cabinets of an empty residence──or, at least he thought. while preparing to return back home, a survivor steps from the rubble, nonthreatening in demeanor, and reveals they mean no harm. will james bring them back to camp?

• james, rosalind, & nyx manage to track and kill two squirrels (two servings), nyx happy to have aided in the hunt. however, the patrol takes a sharp turn as they encounter a grotesque walker. luckily, rosalind is only slightly scratched and bruised, but she is weak and in need of rest. she requires one moon of rest in order to completely recover and rejoin the ranks.
• as if on a role, james, rosalind, & nyx's border patrol encounters yet another walker along the way. and, to make matters worse, they barely make it free until nyx manages to defend them from the walker. in the process, however, nyx is injured and will also need one moon of rest in order to completely recover. what a day!

• bryn, mira, iana, and hosanna manage to track and kill two small fish (two servings), but hosanna doesn't provide any extra help.
• iana's solo patrol is rather uneventful, to say the least, until she encounters another survivor along the way. will she welcome them into the nighthunters?
• mira & hosanna's scavenging patrol is equally as uneventful, but in the end, they manage to scrounge another board of wood, which may later prove useful in their protection.
• leo's search for medicine leads him to gather some witch hazel──a rather odd find, but useful nonetheless. overall, the rest of the patrol goes quietly, and so he returns home with what he has.

gone. jasper stared at the wall in front of him, every single one of them was gone. he slowly reached down to the black covered paintbrush at his feet. it was too late, slowly he drew a line through each of the names. he had been too late. if only he had been there. all fifteen of them, turned and gone. just like that. tears threatened to spill, they shouldn't have risked it. of course they never would have listened to his warnings, despite the danger they knew they were going to face. it was done now though, and there was no bringing them back from what had happened. he owed them now, he owed them big time. he needed to do what was expected of him, and finally take control of the situation. as he stared at the wall his vision blurred, sinking to his knees as the tears finally came pouring out. he was never meant to be dux. he should have died as vicarius, he should have died alongside his best friends.

the sounds of a creature making its way through the mall sent jasper into a panic. he frantically tried to wipe his eyes in an attempt to see his surroundings clearly in order to assure his safety. surely there wasn't a zombie
this far into the building, it didn't seem possible. he scrambled to get to his feet, he was in no shape or
form prepared to fight off another zombie. looking around in every direction he rushed to the stairs, at
least then he would have a vantage point. he kept his eyes open and listened carefully as the creature
seemed to be approaching. a shadow danced upon one of the far walls, and the shape sent a wave of
terror through the teen. it couldn’t be a wylf, he couldn’t believe it. there was no chance one of those
could get in. there were too many questions racing through his mind, and his body was frozen in pure
terror. this was it. he was going to die, ripped to pieces by a wylf. a glorious way to go in his mind.

jasper watched it turn around the corner, preparing himself to be consumed by the ghastly creature.
the wylf seemed oddly familiar, way too familiar. it sniffed at the ground, and looked around the centre
of the mall. he was cautious, he knew that a wylf could be extremely difficult to tell apart from a normal
canine. without thinking he called out the first thing that came to mind. “knox!” he shouted out,
watching with terror as the creature paused and turned to look right in jasper’s direction.

with pricked up ears and a wagging tail, the creature makes a slow approach but jasper is still too
shocked to move. he should be in the wylf's jaws by now, he was just imagining this. there was no
chance that this was actually knox. as the closer the creature came, the more apprehensive jasper was.
it took him a minute of worrying to realise that it was no wylf at all, and it was knox indeed. he felt
ashamed to face the dog as it nosed his hand and sat happily as his feet. he couldn't take knox as his
own, he was elijah's dog. yet, it would weight more heavily on jasper's shoulders if he turned the trusted
companion away now.

with a heavy sight jasper knelt down to get eye level with the dog, grabbing knox either side of his worn
out collar. "it's you and me now bud, i'm sorry, it's just us." he tried to explain, giving a sad smile as
knox jumped up in an attempt to lick his face. "you and me." he said once again, softer this time, and
just as sad. he wasn't sure what he was going to do now, but he'd try and make everyone proud.
