The lanky cat stood sentry in his lookout, a familiar place with familiar sights. He wasn't unused to this place, but he was unused to whatever was going on outside. The Twolegs... they were different. They changed as the environment did, becoming inexplicably hotter and dryer. Solar himself was unsure if he would survive, the lack of freshwater driving him mad. But Solar was a stubborn cat, and he knew he would live.

As the moons progressed into years, the climate never quite recovered. Neither did the Twolegs, mostly out of his fur nowadays, in their own underground dwellings or away from this scorched land. It seemed only animals and hardy plants dared come near this barren land, something which Solar was grateful for. He didn't mind fighting to survive. In fact, he quite enjoyed it.

Solar knew that the cats in his clan would have to be tough. He knew there was no saving most of them, and it was a price he was willing to pay. He had a job to do, and a clan to lead. He would be Solarstar, taking his name from the clans he had heard in stories - though nothing stopped him from naming his newly founded clan after himself. SolarClan, led by Solarstar. Yes, it had a nice ring to it, didn't it? The cat smiled to himself, the sun reflecting off of the decripit building, glinting off of his bared teeth.

I have always known that I was self-centered. I never saw it as a problem, to be fair. Others would hiss at me, thrash their tails, but their anger only fueled my self-centered attitude. I am here for me, not to serve others. I am strong, and I know it. And I am a trueborn leader.

Solar was the name I was given from my late mother - a fiery name, she had always said, for a fiery cat. I guess it suits me. Fiery. I wouldn't say I have a temper, but I definitely get what I want. Stubborn, perhaps, but not angry. Opinionated, though, that I will accept. For some reason, I've always known in my mind that I was destined to be a leader, despite the disinterest of most cats to be led. But now that something akin to the apocalypse has happened, I bet there are a lot of cats suffering.

My reasons for starting this clan are not purely selfish, at the end of the day. I want to help others survive in this strange scorched land. If there are those willing to stand beside me, I am willing to put in the effort to protect them and lead them to the best of my ability.

My name is Solar, and it is time SolarClan was seen.

Common Traits
Dark-furred, short coated cats are commonly seen in the region. A dark coat makes it much easier to sneak up
on prey and a short coat makes drowning whilst fishing less likely. High-white cats are quite rare, but tabbies
make up the bulk of the population.

Belief System
Vexxedclan cats believe that the entire world grew from a single seed, and that mature oak trees are the
manifestation of the higher powers. When a cat has died, it's body is laid to rest at the bottom of the Moontree
on the edge of their territory and allowed to return to the dirt. By doing this, the cats believe that the deceased
will be cared for, as they cared for the Moontree. They expand this belief to their whole word, they must care for
their environment to care for themselves. They try to take only what they need. Ceremonies are held each Spring
and Winter at the Moontree, to give thanks for what they have gathered and to hope for yet another plentiful year.

Territory
The Vexxedclan territory covers spruce–dominated highland forests and extends down into mixed mountain forests
in the valleys. They prefer to bed down in rocky outcrops on steep inclines surrounded by open forests which make
it easy for them to see incoming predators. They will often collect moss from nearby rivers to make their nests
more comfortable. The clan has carved trails all over the territory from continued use between their favourite
places. The cats of Vexxedclan have always been great fishers so they are often seen peering into the river water.

- waxwing and foxtrot need help for their plan to help his friends escape the rogues so they recruit peachshimmer and elkecho, who are notoriously stealthy. several nights later, they sneak out of camp and foxtrot leads them back to the rogues. the group manages to sneak into the camp and past the guards, but one of foxtrot's friends appears to have doubts when they reach him. the ensuing argument draws enough attention so that they are discovered. foxtrot, waxwing & co. manage to gather fernpaw, vervaincloud, and cyprus together and get them out of the camp, but a fight breaks out as they reach highgarden's territory. with a queen and a young apprentice in danger, the group has to fight back, but the rogues are vicious and furious. unfortunately, elkecho and peachshimmer do not survive the encounter and the rogues threaten that they'll be back for the escaped refugees

- cut to highgarden's camp, as the clan settles together for a somber funeral. once more, ferretwhisker has to bury one of her kits. nightfur and batcry from bearclan received word of elkecho's death and ferretwhisker's state. in the midst of bearclan's change in leadership, they have decided to join highgarden to be with their family. for the time being, snipewish and nightfur have stirred clear of each other out of respect for ferretwhisker and elkecho's death. meanwhile, polarfrost, hollandmarch, and others mourn peachshimmer. outside of the grief, tensions are running high, and there is a clear sense of unrest between highgarden and the recent refugees. though nothing breaks at the funeral, a storm is coming

- in the wake of recent events, primrosebriar tries to connect to maplefrost's spirit, but is unable to do so. in her desperation, she goes to squirrelpaw, who admits that she has had strange dreams, but merlinsong has no connection to the gods and she feels distant as well. ravenkit, who has been suffering from a minor cold and is treated by gladesun, speaks up about his visions. gladesun takes immediate interest a la his starclan knowledge, and the sisters ask for ravenkit's help, to see if he can connect to maplefrost, elkecho, or peachshimmer.

- veerypath and waxwing get into a fight. he says that it was a bad idea to go along with foxtrot, and she says that the others might have survived if veerypath had helped. she says that he would have helped if one of his friends was being held by the rogues, and veerypath agrees, but he counters that, instead, his friends were killed helping strangers

- at the same time, tawnyrose, cherryfire, bluetcrest, and birchflame are talking about the refugees and the rogues, and what to do following the fight. cherryfire says that foxtrot, vervaincloud, fernpaw, and cyprus should all be driven away, but tawnyrose disagrees and is shocked by cherryfire's harshness. tawnyrose remembers that cherryfire has a lot of learning and tempering to do before she is ready to be queen. in the meantime, she considers that peachshimmer and elkecho went willingly, and there is no reason to believe that foxtrot set a trap. bluetcrest adds that it would be cruel to turn away a root who is in need of protection and a home. birchflame states that they need to prepare for war, saying that they haven't truly experienced anything close to war yet, and highgarden needs to be ready. tawnyrose agrees, war is on the horizon and creeping closer, and highgarden needs to be strong in order to survive

- after some initial hesitation and fear, vervaincloud moves into the nursery, where she is greeted by surprisingly welcome faces. mottledmoon and sorrelbrook take an immediate liking to vervaincloud, and softglow is friendly to her. ft. kit fluff and a little bit of lightness

- cherryfire pays a visit to erasmus and is interrupted by chestnutsway. cherryfire joins her friend after receiving some advice

- ceremonies all around, which is a joyous but somber occasion. the moon ends when tawnyrose tells her clan that the refugees are welcome to be full members of highgarden instead of living under highgarden's protection. they will need to be united for the long war ahead. the newest additions to the clan all pledge their loyalty to highgarden, though several members are still wary of the trouble they have brought. tawnyrose also announces new war preparations, including stockpiling prey and strengthening the camp guards and patrols.

allegiance changes
• when tickstar of bearclan offers his clan members a chance to join their families, nightfur and batcry decide to visit highgarden and offer support and to grieve when elkecho's death is discovered. the news comes as a shock to the family, and nightfur and batcry ultimately decide to stay, uniting their family together. despite her son's loss, ferretwhisker is happy with the news, and tawnyrose accepts them into the clan. (nightfur & batcry join highgarden. they are aged down accordingly so that batcry matches his littermates)
• foxtrot and waxwing's rescue mission, despite its losses, is not a complete failure, in their opinions. they bring vervaincloud, cyprus, and fernpaw to meet tawnyrose. after a moon of careful deliberation, tawnyrose agrees to let the group become a part of highgarden, so long as they pledge their loyalty to become full members. the trio agree and join the clan's ranks

TERRITORY
blackmeadow lives on an abandoned farm. they are off-road from the small town next to them. their camp is a barn. the barn itself has seen better days and there are occasional leaks, but it is a sturdy shelter. there are some missing panels that the cats use as lookouts. the area surrounding the barn consists of over-grown fields with grass taller than some of the cats. there is a road that leads to the main road to town. sometimes cars pass by and pose a danger, but the farm has a 'no trespassing' sign so the cats are left alone. behind the fields is a dense forest that has a river and a small lake. it's about ankle deep and doesn't hold any fish, but frogs are commonly found in the fallen logs. the river runs to the east, draining into a large body of water. they don't know what's beyond the large lake.

CUSTOMS
the ruler of the clan is to always be followed without question. they are in charge and elected by a vote after the other leader dies. unlike other clans, the leader only has one life but is often severely protected. they rarely leave the barn and instead focus on the day to day happenings.

the barn is only so large. it can fit 30 cats maximum at any one time. once this limit is reached, no more cats are allowed to join. if there are 30 residents, no cats can have kits. however, if there is even one spot open, a mating can occur. they then wait to see how many kits are born. the kits do not contribute to the clan maximum since they share their mother's nest. once they become apprentices, however, if there are not enough spaces for all of them, one or two (or the number that exceed the limit) must leave, or convince another cat to leave in their place. often, this will be one of the parents. if they refuse to leave, the cat is killed. elders do not exist.

all mateships must be run by the ruler before becoming official. it is rare that the leader will deny a pairing, but it is rather so that a special ceremony can be planned. it involves presenting their mate with a gift of either a flower, rock, or other special item. it is always a joyous occasion and the clan is happy for the new pair. however, they cannot have kits until it is their turn. there is a list that the leader keeps dictating the order of mateships to determine who can have a litter when there is space. couples who already have kits are booted to the end of the line. it goes in order, however, if a couple does not want kits they can relinquish their spot. surrogacies are allowed and count as a couple's kits for both participating parties. because of this, many same-sex couples will bond together and make deals about being surrogates for each other and raising the litters together.

any kind/color of cat can be found. most of the cats are former kittypets but others may be strays from the town nearby. naming conventions don't really matter. they are not like other clans. they have a singular name that is usually something to do with nature. for example, frog. they do not change names as they change ranks. some kittypets may want to keep their two-leg given name. the leader doesn't really mind and lets them keep it. as long as they contribute to the clan like others, backgrounds of cats do not matter. because of this, blackmeadow cats have a deep bond and keep to themselves. they will not go out of their way to pick a fight, but they will ruthlessly defend what is theirs. they have bordering clans, but do not have allies or enemies. they aren't necessarily isolationists, but you will not find them at gatherings.

at first glance, the cats of the lowlands are a reserved, if cold, people. they like to share their dry sense of humor with those who appreciate their point of view. they pride themselves in their long, rich history built on customs and storytelling. fiercely independent, they don't like to go to others for help unless it is imperative. that being said, those who they can count on as friends have a guaranteed lifelong bond. they are superstitious to a fault, and have their own black cats to fear from their shadowed history.

general characteristics ; deadpan, skeptical, guarded, fiercely proud, gregarious, traditional sense of family and kingdom, "thick-skinned" but easily pushed into anger

culture ;

the chief has all the responsibilities and power as that of a leader. they guide the clan with a strong paw, backed by their legate (deputy) in matters of everyday life. in the end of important decisions, the chief's word is law and must be followed. a chief is ruler from birth to death, appointed by their father and chief before them in the traditional way that it has always been. if a chief is deemed unworthy to rule by democratic decision, they are demoted and a new ruler is appointed by the entire clan.

from birth, one of the skills that all kits are expected to learn is herb knowledge. each cat treats themselves, unless physically unable. if infected by a virus or contagious sickness, they are sent to a confined den to recover with minimal interaction. some cats are more experienced with medical knowledge than others, and may step up in times of great need to be the lead healer. however, there is no assigned medicine cat. prophetic signs, though extremely rare, might be received by a cat that is gifted in the art of medicine or healing, but mostly that is an ambiguous assumption.

claws have all the responsibilities of a warrior. they are always among the last to take prey from the prey pile. they are responsible for hunting, foraging, and defending.

tenderfoots (apprentices) are cats in training to become claws, but are too young or inexperienced. they earn their name, rather than reaching a certain age to move ranks. earning a claw-name can come in countless ways that should be unique to the individual to show their growth and maturity. once given a claw name, it cannot be stripped away unless exiled. their appointed mentor has the option of weighing in on their claw-name, and is a common practice.

as a reassuring presence, there is an appointed dame to aid the mothers in the nursery. they are very experienced maternal caretakers, and can go to all genders. they help with kit-sitting, birth, and general rearing of all kits. a dame is typically a senior claw who asks the counsel permission to move to the nursery. but it can also include young claws who have found a calling for nurturing kits. mothers choose the names of their kits and stay with them until they reach six moons, upon which they graduate into a tenderfoot. mothers are not required to announce the significant other of their litter.

spirituality ;; loch clan believes in life after death, in a sense. the energies and souls of the dead are transmitted into the earth around them - by land, sky, or sea. at death, they mark graves with herbs and whatever decorations the cat liked in life in hopes that they would bring it with them in death. in the end, it doesn't matter what a cat did during their life - they all end up becoming a member of their ancestors. signs rarely come in any form unless in dire situations that require divine intervention. their ancestors are revered by the loch-cats, as that is the inevitable end and eternal connection to their family members.

the hallow weald ;; this is the sacred graveyard of clan cats passed. the sky remains open in this carved forest clearing, warming the ground during warm months enough to sprout a field of wildflowers. it is a popular belief that the closer a cat is to the open sky, the easier it will be for their soul to transition into the afterlife. for those who committed transgressions in life, they are buried in the shade, which dampens their journey to the stars. the chief and senior claws carry the body followed by close family and friends of the deceased.

naming system ;

- at birth, the mother names their kit one name that goes with their looks
(ex. a black kit will be named spider)
- at the appropriate time of becoming a claw, a full name is appointed by the chief and counsel, reflecting their true self or nature. so spider, who grew up nimble and quick, becomes spider foot
- if this cat were to become chief, they would then be considered chief spider foot
- cats who are close to spider foot could call them spider, but out of respect, most cats call each other by their full name unless they are family, friends, or partners
- prefixes can sometimes be passed down from generation to generation

camp ;; a neatly tucked away area located in a craggy ridge. the naturally formed v-shaped entrance is protected by a small copse known as the mossy hollow. within the camp, large boulders along with shallow holes dug out of the rock walls shape the dens in which the clan cats rest. the center is mostly sandy with littered pebbles and rich soil. there is not much protection from the sky, but acts as a great defensive strategy against invading forces. the most enforced dens are made up of thick shrubbery and bramble walls lining the northern section of camp, which are the hardest to get to in any attack, but also hardest to escape. though mothers, kits, and elders sleep in these separate dens, all other cats rest in the rock dens. the fresh kill pile is concealed in a slightly smaller crevice by the bramble dens, with herb storage kept close by with easy accessibility to the herbalists.

moraineslip is excited to help in the first kitting since she joined the clan, and prepares everything she can to make mambo comfortable. she gets mambo's mate and grown kits to be there while the rit zien songsparrow gathers potentially needed herbs.

chiffon approaches fallowmoon and asks him to take a walk with her. during the walk, she asks the strange tom why he thinks that he is worthy of being the mate of her brother. fallowmoon is immediately flushed by the question and grows nervous as he attempts to answer. chiffon doesn't seem pleased by what he says and she 'accidently' shoves him against a tree trunk, and digs her claws into one of his front paws as she hisses out a warning that he should be more careful who he interacts with. chiffon and fallowmoon return separately to the camp and neither speaks of what happened.
