Previous Moon
The new pack had decided that to bond further with one another, they would go on a run together. Some nights they raced around the entire territory and others ended pretty short after a long day. Dante especially liked this bonding exercise as it required little speaking. He was fine making little conversations with his pack members throughout the day but anything deeper than the casual day talk unnerved him. It wasn’t like he didn’t enjoy being around others, but he just didn’t like them to get too close or know him too well.
One night on one of their runs, Dante’s ears perked up as he heard howling relatively close to their location. He skidded to a halt. Delilah turned, still running, and stumbled while she was off balance. Wonder helped the younger hound regain her feet. “What is it?” She asked. Dante shook his head and shushed her. Omen circled back to the group; he had only just realized the rest of the pack had stopped. They all listened to the howls.
“How close is that?” Omen stood on his hindlegs for a moment, ears stood all the way up.
“Not very far.” Dante concluded.
“Who could that be? Other loners?” Delilah wondered.
“Should we try to find them?” Wonder asked. The four looked at Dante expectedly.
“Find out if they are a friend or foe.” Dante decided. He led the dogs towards the noise. He pushed back the long grass and revealed two dogs. One light Afghan and one tricolor Windhound turned to the group, stopping their howling. Their hackles raised slightly at the sight of the newcomers. “State your business.” Dante growled.
“What’s it to you?” The brute snapped. The fae was less standoffish but did not speak.
“You are very close to my,” Dante paused and remembered the pack. “um, our territory.”
The brute started to angrily reply, but the fae finally spoke up. “Territory? Are you a pack?”
“That’s where we left.” The brute muttered.
Dante’s ears perked up. “You were in a pack together?”
“Not together.” The fae shook her head. “But they both had disbanded.”
The Free Runners shared a look. “Well, you could come back with us for a night or two.” Dante finally suggested. The new dogs glanced and nodded.
“I’m Callie.” The fae said.
“No, you will choose a new name for a new pack.” Dante stopped her. “Think about it.”

Omen was happily panting after chasing down a couple shrews with Dante. He was laying down for once, watching the alpha scratch his ears. He was perplexed on how he could sit still for so long without becoming bored. Once Omen got his breath all the way back, his plan was to scout over by the western border where it was more shaded. He was pleasantly surprised when Wonder and Delilah returned from their patrol with two new dogs.
“Hey, who’s the new meat?” He shouted.
Dante got to his feet. “Yes, who did you find?”
The Finnish Spitz was the one to introduce them. “I am Winde, and my mate is Roman.” The Canaan wagged his tail in greeting.
“Welcome to the pack.”

Present
Wonder pondered how best to bring up an important topic she had been thinking about for a moon or so to Dante. He seemed distant at times, so she wanted to make sure he was in a good mood. Dante had just finished a shrew, so Wonder was pretty sure he was as happy as possible. She was happiest with a full belly.
“Hey,” She greeted the alpha. “I have been thinking about a few things lately.” Dante looked at her expectantly. “And I was thinking that the beta position should be filled soon.”
“I agree.” He responded slowly.
“And I think that I could fit that position.” Wonder finished.
“Hm,” Dante thought for a moment. “You are a contender for that position. However, others are as well. I will let the pack know of the decision in a few days.”
Wonder was a bit put off. She knew the others were good and valuable members, but she also knew she would be a good and valuable second in command. She considered speaking up once more but was wary of turning his mood sour.

Roman also had his sights on the beta position. He tried not to voice that want out loud because Winde also was interested in becoming the beta as well. They both obviously were supportive of each other, but neither one of them wanted to accidentally step on the other’s toes. Roman instead kept his eyes on the other dogs that could be more beta position. Omen was definitely not too concerned, or at the very least, he didn’t outwardly show any inkling of being interested in becoming beta. Roman had only known the dog for a moon, but he was pretty sure he could read his thoughts pretty thoroughly. Delilah was also very aloof, so he wasn’t concerned about her actions. Xeo seemed cunning enough to know that he would be untouchable as beta. He still seemed unsure about his new pack and probably had some distrust lingering from his old pack disbanding. Saturn and Wonder were both nice enough, but over the past few days they had developed an edge. Each one of the pack members had taken to sneaking glances at the alpha, uneasy about his recent quiet attitude. It was nearing dusk, so finally Dante rose to his paws. The pack staggered getting to their feet pretending they all hadn’t been waiting for the nightly run. Wonder had taken place on Dante’s right shoulder, and Xeo had pushed his way to his other side. Winde did not want to be beat and stared down Saturn as she took her place behind Dante. Roman was further back with Omen and Delilah, so he didn’t hear Dante’s sigh.
“Roman, Omen?” The alpha called over his shoulder. “Would you like to join me up front?” This sounded more like a command than a suggestion, so the two quickly took Wonder and Xeo’s place. The pack took off on their nightly run, the chosen two keeping up with Dante’s pace. After about a quarter way through, the rest of the dogs were starting to spread out more.
Between breaths, Roman asked, “Why did you want us up here?” Omen perked his ears, also hoping to hear the answer. Dante didn’t speak for a few moments. Roman was worried he ruined whatever chance Dante had just saw in him.
“You two are the only ones who speak their desires.” The alpha finally offered.
“But I am also hoping to be beta.” Roman blurted.
“My point exactly.” Dante said. He was quiet after that. Omen caught Roman’s eye and winked. He hoped that was a good job wink.

Delilah was surprised when Dante was already on his feet when she opened her eyes. She padded to his side. “You okay?” She asked curiously.
“I’m thinking on sending you on patrol with Roman.” He said. “Can you keep an eye on him and report back to me?”
“Of course!” Delilah responded happily. She was glad that he trusted her with an important task already! Dante nodded at her, and she trotted off to wake her patrol partner. He jolted awake and also stirred Winde as well.
“Delilah?” He blinked groggily. “Something wrong?”
“We’re just gonna patrol together today!” She said.
Winde tried to snuggle back into her mate’s fur. “Now?” Roman definitely was not used to being woken up so early.
“No, just today.” Delilah was slightly disappointed he didn’t seem very eager to get going, but she guessed she could use this time to see if Dante or someone else up needed an errand ran. She left Roman grunting, still half-asleep, to see how else she could be useful. Today was going to be a good day.

Xeo watched Delilah and Roman head off through the tall grass. He was glad Roman was only stuck patrolling today. How could he show his worth if he was only running around?
“Ready?” Wonder called. Xeo turned to her. The harrier was leading their hunting patrol today. Omen was pacing beside her. Xeo followed the two out of camp. He was determined to show that even though he was from a previous pack, the past was behind him and the others had nothing on him.

Winde followed Dante close behind, keeping her senses perked for prey. Saturn was beside her, keeping a keen eye open for any prey startled from their group. The two faes were both on their highest alert. She wasn’t going down without a fight.

The commanders gathered around the prisoner, Gunner, for his interrogation. The german shorthair showed no signs of fear as the group of dogs cornered him between a few large boulders. Niko didn't take his eyes off Gunner for one second and Gunner could see the burning hate. Chi sat in the back, only here to give give his story about his attack earlier that moon. The group of dogs had their eyes trained on the prisoner.
Gunner was weak and hungry. He had received little to no food the past two months and was constantly watched. He had to sleep away from the kennel on uncomfortable roots under a tree that gave little shade. If he moved at all, at least three heads whipped around to see what he was doing. He did not like the prisoner life.
Garland started the interrogation by making Gunner cower under him. He stood over the dog and growled viciously. "You will tell us everything you know and answer all of our questions or you will be killed. Got that? YOU will die if you say the wrong thing."
Gunner nodded. "Yes, I understand."
"Good. Tell me where you are from."
"I lived in a town outside of the woods until I was forced to leave by my father. Afterwards I began to explore the woods and the campgrounds near some mountains." Niko made eye contact with Garland. "Not much was there and by winter my source of food from the campers was gone. I was forced-"
"I didn't ask for you life story! I want to know how you found these woods and my territory."
"After exploring on my own for a while, I met this family of dogs who I decided to stay with for a bit since fall was coming to an end. They also traveled and we came across the woods. I went off hunting by myself and was jumped by your patrol."
"Why did you attack us then?"
"I was scared and caught off guard. I thought you were hunting me so I fought back."
Niko growled furiously. "That's a bunch of crap! The way you fought me wasn't like a dog fighting in self defense."
"I was fighting for my life. Of course I'm going to want to fight offensively more than defensively. Then you kidnapped and starved me."
"Enough! Both of you. Niko back down right now and Gunner you better not talk back to my kennel like that again!" The dogs listened to the enraged alpha. "Where is this 'family' you were traveling with now?"
"Like I said, they travel. They have probably moved on from here by now. I was planning on leaving them anyway. I am a loner by nature."
"Do you know anything about a kennel called the Rose Grass?"
"They do sound familiar. But from what I've heard, they are bad news. They are a group of vicious dogs who prey on the weak. I'd stay away from them."
Garland's eyes narrowed as his suspicions came true. "Have you ever been affiliated with the Rose Grass kennel?"
"No. How many times do I have to tell you, I am a loner. And loner's don't see too many dogs, especially a kennel of murderous dogs."
Garland said only one word. "Niko." Niko happily jumped on Gunner and started biting and clawing everywhere. He tried to focus on his face and neck, but was biting anywhere he could get. Gunner was also fighting back and kept kicking Niko and swiping him away. Garland stopped the fight when Niko tried to rip the shorthair's ear off.
Gunner was panting and a bit bloodied. Garland said "What did I tell you would happen if you lied to us. You have told us nothing but lies since we started. Niko here also lived in the town you mentioned before this. He was a part of the kennel there and he says there's no mention of mountains being near there. So tell us more about the Rose Grass kennel. What kind of dogs are a part of it? How many of them are there? Where is their base?"
"I don't know. Like I said before, I'm not a part of that kennel."
"Fine. If that's the way you want it, then you won't eat. We'll see if hunger can make the truth come out."
Garland leads the dogs back to camp and announces that no one is to feed the prisoner. Also, anyone who would like to take a few snaps at him at anytime is permitted, as long as they can handle themselves against him.
Immediately, Natiri stalks over to Gunner and tackled him. She bites at his legs and tail. Kalta stops the fight mere seconds after it began. "Natiri, don't get hurt. We need you to not waste your energy on this lowlife."
Natiri growled at Gunner. "That's for my brother. Your kennelmate was lucky I wasn't there or they wouldn't have made it out of camp alive."
Gunner glares at Natiri before going back to his tree.

Hiri watched as pack life circled around her. She felt helpless here - not a single herb, no initiate to teach - what was she supposed to do with all this time she had on her paws? Amaryllis approached her with Braisle at her side and Hiri simply stood her ground. Most dogs knew better then to stare directly at Amaryllis as her temper usually got the better of her, but Hiri knew her importance and she dared the fae to strike at the medic the god's had sent her. Braisle, in all his towering stature, grinned at Hiri and nodded toward her as they grew closer. Hiri felt a wave of irritation toward the brute sweep over her but she swallowed it down, "Yes?" Hiri spoke, eager to hear why they were coming toward her.

"It would seem that we've found Lesk's mother." Amaryllis spoke, "Along with a sibling of his."

Hiri shrugged lightly, obviously not understanding what the bad of this was, "So? Why is this brute with you and why are you bothering to tell me?"

Amaryllis snarled lightly, "Because Braisle is going to accompany you on your first search for herbs." The commander glared lightly at the medic a moment before turning and leaving the two alone.

Braisle chuckled lightly and his thick tail thumped against the ground, "You've got quite the brave streak, eh?" he winked toward the fae and pushed himself to his paws, "Shall we get going?"

Hiri sighed and paced to the larger wolfhound's side, "I suppose we shall.. I fear if we don't we may no longer have a home."

Lesk playfully pounced on a leaf that was tumbling past him, "Ha!" he triumphantly barked, "Just imagine, next time it'll be a squirrel."

"You'll do wonderfully next time." Amaryllis' voice came melodically to the pup's ears and he spun to face her, "I'll have Braisle take you out for a true hunting trip soon, Lesk, but right now I have some news for you."

Lesk tipped his head to the side, "News? Like what?"

Thamin stepped out of the brush then and a shy smile was across his maw. He gestured toward the bushes behind him and out with a simple cough two dogs appeared. Two dogs that look very much like Lesk. The little white pup's ears fell and his eyes grew watery as he saw the two shapes though the larger of the two seemed far more important. His fluffy tail began to sweep from side to side and a small whimper came from his throat.

"Oh Lesk, my darling." the fae spoke before darting forward and licking the pup's head multiple times, "I knew we'd find you again."

The small pup that lagged behind the fae seemed hesitant but as he came forward he spoke a few words, "Yay us." the words were thick with a tease and as his eyes locked with his brother's Amaryllis noted that there seemed to be a heavy rivalry between the two. Good. This would fuel them to be much better then they already were. Amaryllis would use this as motivation for them both.

"We found Kiyja and Juezin near the border trying to pick up your scent trail." The commander spoke lightly, interrupting the family reunion, "You should show your mother then tunnels, Lesk, and show your brother where the initiates nests are."

The smaller white german shepherd nodded eagerly, "Come'on ma.. You too, Juezin."

The trio vanished into the dark tunnels and Amaryllis was left alone with her thoughts. This would pan out very well for her. The pack was growing and soon enough she'd have plenty of troops. A contented sigh came from her chest. The Militia was thriving.

Here, you won’t find even a snowflake─the weather is constantly warm with frequent rain showers. Garrett is their single god whom they look to for advice and guidance—the panther will often visit their Sovereign in their dreams, and communicate through prophecies and omens with their Medic.

Sovereign—the reigning sovereign of Whitemane. When they die, their Heir will inherit the throne. If there is no Heir, the rank is given to the Regent.
Consort—the Sovereign’s mate, does not hold any real power.
Heir—the progeny of the Sovereign and their Consort, and the inheriter of the throne when the Sovereign dies.
Regent—the second in command to the Sovereign. Can ascend the throne if, when the Sovereign dies, there is no Heir.
Medic—the healer and receiver of omens and prophecies of Whitemane who has an extensive knowledge of herbs.
Medic’s Understudy—the trainee of the Medic, in training to become the next Medic.
Praetorians—the oldest and most experienced warriors hold this rank, who are also known as the senior warriors.
Warriors—the fighters and hunters of Whitemane.
Trainees—from the ages of six moons to twelve, Trainees train underneath the Praetorians and Warriors to become a Warriors.
Mothers—a temporary rank given to Warriors who are expecting or nursing pups and will return to the rank of Warrior once their pups are Trainees.
Servants—the lowest rank of Whitemane. They are not Warriors, and never will be, or they are given this rank due to breaking one of Whitemane’s laws. They are tasked with cleaning the living quarters and other low duties.
