Cherryberry has given birth to two young kits, who she and Foxfire have decided to name after the ancient clans. They decide on Lionkit for the tom, and Tigerkit for the she-kit. For the next moon they decide to stay in one of the smaller caves, the family of four bonding. Foxfire only leaves Cherryberry and the kits to train Antpaw.

Antpaw has been getting fed up with the other apprentices, finding Sparrowpaw and Hurricanepaw incredibly annoying. He does, however, tolerate Floodpaw. Antpaw has gotten in the habit of ranting to Floodpaw, or just talking, about anything going on in life. Floodpaw usually just sits next to him, listening. He would at first tense up and get nervous whenever Antpaw approached him, but in the past moon he’s gotten used to it and now greets an approaching Antpaw with a happy smile. Floodpaw still doesn’t talk much, aside from short and quiet responses if Antpaw asks him a question.

Feathersong had eagerly joined the clan, but was now finding it hard to fit in. She wasn’t the best at talking, and the older cats tended to intimidate her. She has been getting along with the apprentices, however, finding it much easier to talk to them since they aren’t too far from her age. The apprentices seem to like her, aside from Antpaw who hardly likes anyone, and in turn she’s been keeping them from doing anything too dumb.

Alpinewool has finally worked up the courage to ask Paleshadow to go on patrol with her. Paleshadow huffs, seemingly annoyed but quickly agrees, finding Alpinewool to be much more tolerable than the others. Before they can leave, Stormstrike stops them and asks Paleshadow to bring Floodpaw with her, which she does reluctantly. To Paleshadows relief, Floodpaw stays quiet and a couple tail lengths back as they walk, allowing her to walk in silence, occasionally listening as Alpinewool says something to her. They stop near the cliffs so Paleshadow can teach Floodpaw a new skill, Alpinewool happy to sit on a nearby rock and watch.

Jaycloud is still nervous about being a father. Being on patrol with Fidgetfern and Boulderstripe both helps and makes it worse. Fidgetfern tends to be a lot more worried about things, telling a couple stories about things that had gone wrong while raising his kits. Meanwhile Boulderstripe tries to ease his fears, reminding Jaycloud that they always have the clan to help if anything happens. Jaycloud ends up feeling more overwhelmed than anything else once they return home from hunting.

Smokykit keeps getting himself into trouble, being too young to play with the busy apprentice, but too old to play with the new kits. He finds it strange that he’s now an uncle, especially since the kits are less than two seasons younger than him. He’s also been taught to swim after repeatedly launching himself into the main cave pool, the kit loving the water.

Whiskersnow has been helping out Cherryberry with the new kits, as well as keeping an eye on Smokykit whenever his fathers are out. She often is the one to dive in after the kit, and she had helped to teach him how to swim since Badgermoon and Fidgetfern weren’t that good at teaching him, neither of them being too good at swimming themselves. The two fathers happily agreeing to let her teach Smokykit,
