(( ✏︎ "out! out! shoo!" cried the human as a black belgian tervuren raced after a beautiful brown and white borzoi. the human threw a pan out the door as the dogs fled in fear, their owner angry at them for a reason they did not understand. they raced to the edge of the city, to the large fence, and slipped through a hole and into the old city. the crumbling buildings all around them seemed terrifying, so they walked slowly into the one in the best condition. they found a door standing wide open, so they padded up the stairs and found themselves on a roof. "seems like this is where we'll be staying, curly," the belgian tervuren woofed softly to the borzoi as he curled up next her, their pelts barely touching.

the male opened his eyes to a starry white german shepherd. "my name is ellard. i am a ruler the skies, and i have seen you and your mate are in trouble," the dog said, and oliver, the belgian tervuren, ducked his head in embarrassment. "sh-she's not m-my m-mate!" he stammered, but ellard ignored him. "there are four other rulers of the skies. i, ellard, am the ruler of knowledge. anais is a labrador retriever and she is the ruler of health. cheval is a beagle and is the ruler of mischief. axelle is a pembroke welsh corgi and is the ruler of kindness. tavin is a belgian malinois and is the ruler of war. you shall be a protector of dogs who were left by their humans. they will find you, i will make sure of that. they will become the lowest ranking dog of the pack until a new dog joins you. they will keep their softie names until they are welcomed as full members of the kennel. i will send you the names i have deemed fit for them. whenever you need to speak with me, just come to the roof and howl. i shall hear you. now, go and start your new lives. you shall be audrick, and she shall be galina." ellard woofed all this before turning away and then the newly named audrick woke.

"i was visited last night by a ruler named ellard. i am now audrick, and you are galina. i have thought of names of ranks. i will lead, by the title of solo, and you will be one of my two seconds, by the title of chord. now, i will patrol, and you shall hunt," audrick announced to galina as they walked down the stairs and towards the wide world of the old city.

the day passed, and audrick left galina to sleep on the main floor of the building where it was warm. he stepped out onto the roof and threw his head back and howled. "oh ellard! please send a loyal dog my way! i need a set of able paws to become my first member of the ensemble!" his breath puffed from his jaws and nostrils in visible clouds, the cold starting to make audrick forget his hatred of his long coat. ))

It wasn't hard to catch Dellia's eye. Dellia, though not the most social canine in the kennel, observed from afar. It wouldn't take long for something to catch her interest, and today was no different. Though, maybe it was different today? Something special, like a flame of fascination that sparked inside of her. It was from a group of four canines that Dellia had never seen before anxiously padded into the camp, their legs trembling gently. Besides one. She exhibited a pair of alert and pointed ears, a long tail and a sharp gaze. Her gaze -- it was so terrifyingly beautiful. Her eyes were one of a kind: bluer than anything Dellia had looked into. Her pair of eyes stood out from the rest of her surroundings, catching Dellia off guard. Oh dear, was she a pretty newcomer.

The other three were a trio of golden retrievers, their coats all silky and gleaming in the delicate rays of light. One of them appeared to be smaller than the other two, them holding the same observant gaze Dellia had been told she had. Her face blank, but her eyes intrigued at the new dogs and new smells that she must have been unfamiliar with. Even with the other two retriever's fur being gorgeous, hers was absolutely pristine, somehow. It wasn't the fur of a fighter, Dellia could tell. The fur of somebody like Dellia herself, possibly.

A few dogs from her kennel had began curiously approaching the new group of canines, and Dellia decided it wasn't such a terrible idea to do that herself. She sauntered over, her gaze locked on the fae that had first caught her eye. The closer Dellia had stepped, the stronger the scent of lavender filled her senses. Dellia didn't know her name, but something about her made her almost swoon.

Gosh, she was gorgeous.

It was as Yuan wanted - a strong kennel. It was growing faster than the large dog had anticipated, having just found two new members plus an additional healer that wandered in, saying they had been sent here from the goddess. Yuan rolled his eyes at the sentiment of the smaller healer dog, but he allowed it. Dirk, as he was called, stayed out of the way, not bothering to waste his time around Yuan, and nor Yuan with him. It was nice. The rest of the Renegades usually left Yuan to his own business, which suited him perfectly. The only dog that had so far proved himself to Yuan was the one he named Kvar.

The autumnal season had hit faster than any of the dogs in the Renegades expected, leaving the bellies of all the dogs empty. It didn't seem to only be the dogs that were suffering, however - rogue coyotes had been travelling closer to the Renegades territory, despite aggressively marked borders. It had been Kvar who led the charge against the coyotes, driving them off before they could really encroach on Renegade territory. The dog was a fierce fighter, Yuan noted at the time, watching the muscles as the brute tackled coyote after coyote. There was a small part of Yuan's mind that thought he would have been able to handle the threat on his own, even, the rest of the patrol being rendered useless.

And so Yuan had offered the young dog a position as a Notorious. It was almost charming to see the rift it caused in their 'friend' group, in the dogs that came together. It amused Yuan, keeping his distance as he saw the looks the others gave to Kvar. No matter. He had no time for the petty matters of Outrunners, at least not until he found more guard members. The Outrunners could do as they pleased and think whatever they want about Kvar's promotion. They should be thankful he accepted them all in the first place, though they had proven to be remarkable hunters. Really, it was good luck that they have found Yuan, so he wasn't going to complain about the Outrunners complaints. At least not to their faces. Not yet. Not unless it interfered with his guard.

Life went on.
