location. the team of thundering paws was founded in ambler, alaska, near kobuk valley national park. the musher is american-born, though she was raised in japan.

reputation. the team of thundering paws, despite their threatening name, is full of good-natured and kind dogs,
who take anyone in. even with this, they are known to be feared. their maternal nature makes them extremely protective of their pups, and one another. the musher is an extremely kind girl who treats all of her dogs with respect and kindness.

tradition. a tradition that is highly respected amongst the team is one that's seemingly simple from afar, but holds extreme meaning. once a yearling graduates to a sled dog, the musher gives them a collar with a sakura flower pendant on it. while this seems meaningless, the pendant holds a sakura flower petal, and reminds the musher of japan. this flower also signifies graduation for the yearling, and gives the sled dogs a reason to celebrate after a hard day of work.

dogs. all sled dogs can be found here, but the most commons breeds are alaskan huskies, alaskan malamutes,
samoyed, canadian eskimo dogs, saint bernards, newfoundland, and akitas. uncommon breeds are ones with long coats, but not extremely thick fur like the common dogs. rare dogs are all others.

it was a rather cold day. jaques shoved his hands into his pockets, constantly shivering
as he made his way into town. he had felt passionately about dog sledding since he was
a child, and now that he was an adult he would finally be able to achieve what had been
something that felt impossible. with a lot of hard work and elbow grease, arctic drift
would be one of the most successful dog-racing teams.

The lunar lights team is a team composed of strictly pedigree Siberian huskies, Alaskan huskies, and Alaskan malamutes. this is based on the mushers sole dedication to the breeds that they choose. all of the dogs are generally high strung, and a little arrogant to outsiders, but when you are accepted into the group, are down to earth and low-key.

they live on a small homestead, built in the 1900's by the mushers great-great grandfather, and has been passed down generation to generation. The house itself is quaint, and can hold around four to five people at most, though sharing rooms isn't off the table. The land surrounding is tundra, and is long and vast, and easily lost in. Markers have been placed around ever mile or so, pointing to the house. The snow is always thick, and compacts easily, but when its windy, it drifts into massive piles. There aren't a lot of trees around, but normally evergreen is the one growing when there are trees.

The dogs all sleep outside in what the musher calls, 'little snow caves', where the dogs curl up, with their nose under their tail, and sleep when they can, occasionally getting buried if there is a lot of snowfall.

Any musher who joins the Lunar Lights crew, has to desire the same goal; to be one with the elements and the animals. They must be extremely prolific in basic survival, and must be ferociously protective of the dogs. Each dog that comes to Lunar Lights has an extreme dedication to the sled and the work that they love. If any dog is slightly wishy-washy, the others pounce on them, and they are gone within a week or two. Their lives, the mushers and the dogs, are strictly about sledding, purely for joy, but mostly for money.

Mountain Runners has been her dream since she was a little girl. Her parents, two experienced mushers who owned a large sled dog kennel in Alaska. Now that she's old enough to head out on her own, she's determines to make the strongest and best sled dog team that anybody would ever see.

The Mountain Runners kennel is set in a forest at the base of the Chugach Mountains. During the warmer months, the sled dogs will be kept outside in miniature log houses. During colder months, the dogs will be brought inside to a building very similar to a barn.

While every type of sled dog can be found here at some point, Samoyed's and Malamute's are the most common to be found. The dogs on this team tend to be rambunctious and loud but they are extremely loyal to their mister and their teammates.

the basics
beyond civilization and most technology, lies a small alaskan village just north of the polar lights. here the sled dog relaxes and rests while they wait to deliver news, medicine, and food to other towns in alaska. they live in a cabin far from the town.

traditions
as a dog joins the team, they are given their own uniquely colored harness with a certain design etched into the side along with a name tag at the front. they rarely are taken off, except to sleep.
because they believe their ancestor is the great balto- all mutts are especially welcome in the team, if they are obedient and hard working. the musher has a particular talent of rehabilitating dogs, however.

snowy drifts stretch far and wide for miles, glistening under the light of the rising sun. the surface of the ground, long frozen and covered with feet of white powder, glitter with oranges and golds and pinks, the color of the dawn sky. far in the distance, dark pines loom like jaws, stretching up into the horizon, and the silence of the early morning tundra is filled with the howling of excited dogs. in moments, the peace is shattered, and a team comes hurtling through the snow toward the village, musher whooping, eyes bright, the frigid air turning to fog from the hot, fervid breaths of the dogs as they run. muscle shifts under thick fur, teeth flash against pink and black tongues, and flurries of white are sent scattered by the team as they do what they do best.

since his childhood, the musher has been working and training with both mutts and purebreeds, nurturing and working them from puphood until death. his team is the fruit of his labor, and both his heart and his soul long for nothing more to be out among the drifts, scoring trails through the vast alaskan wilderness. the team is new and small, but their musher believes in them, and they will do all that they can to repay the man's kind and caring hands. they are his treasure, and he is their anchor--for him, they will run. for him, they will fly.

location - the vähän lunta sled team was founded in tok, alaska, by musher aatto viktorovich kuznetsov. aatto is the son of an alaskan-born man with russian heritage and a finnish native. he was born here in alaska, and worked with his father, viktor, who raised and raced sled dogs just like his own sire. the kuznetsov family has lived in alaska for some time, with the first generation having come overseas for the alaskan gold rush. "kuznetsovs and sledding go together like bears and salmon," aatto's father often used to say.

reputation - the team has little reputation to speak of, considering its conception was fairly recent. back in the day, the kuznetsov team was known to be strong and powerful, but aatto is not his grandfather, and his team may be very different.

dogs - all types of dogs are welcome in aatto's team--especially mutts.

weather; during summer, you will catch a max of six pieces of prey. during runs, you are more likely to run into tourists so keep an eye out. there might be droughts towards the middle of summer. your team will still receive new dogs but not as much as you would in spring. it is harder to train in the mushy snow, so it will be more difficult for pups to learn at this time.

solus had been born in her home, raised in her home, and then sent away from her home. her father was a mean man, a vicious man almost, but he was mean because he wanted her to succeed. 'Go be a scientist for NASA!' He would say, pushing her to do great in school and excel in the science department. she agreed, as he was her father, but her love for animals, especially sled dogs, proved to be more powerful than her love of science. Even though science was pushed upon her, she loved it, especially the scientific names of all the creatures who lived in the universe. she thought each name was creative and unique and loved the way they sounded.

when her father died in her senior year of college, she graduated and moved back to the home that she forever loved. she settled down into the house, and realized that she was bored out of her mind, and didn't have anything to do. one day, she saw a flyer in the town about an upcoming race, and decided she wanted to enter. her dream of being a sled dog racer had been pushed into the back of her mind when she went to college, but now, she could finally realize her dream. she left her house, wrapped in three coats and four layers of socks, and headed into town. she was going to get her a dog, a lead dog, and build her team from scratch.
