As the boat reached the new village of Otsoa Kichou got more and increasingly agitated. Every time Ay4u came close to try and comfort her she snarled. No one was to come anywhere near her. Especially her friends, she didn’t want to hurt anyone. When the boat reached shore Kichou threw herself out of it and headed toward the healer in the village. She was told what to do, but still felt apprehensive. For months the small fox was not heard from. The villagers were worried about her, but none were brave enough to go looking for her except three.
Two of them left the village one way, and the other left the opposite. Neither the loner nor the pair knew that there were other searchers in the woods that they traveled through. When the searchers heard the howl in the night they shivered, but none of them was going to turn back.
In the village three others heard the howl. Two of them knew exactly what it was and attempted to divine the source to see if it did indeed come from the one they thought. The results frightened them. From what they had gathered they knew that the village would fall prey to the wolves again.
The third villager was also frightened by the howls, but they decided to go about a different way of preparation. A garden was planted outside of the house of the healer. It grew mostly wolfsbane, but a great deal of other herbs were grown there as well.
Outside the village the lone villager had spotted a shadow in the woods. It was just about the size of a grey fox and by the looks of it the same color. “Kichou,” the villager asked just before the shadow lunged. Sharp teeth sank into the villager’s left leg as the villager blacked out. The fox slunk back into the woods proper.
The other two villagers were still searching. They had seen nothing at all resembling the small fox before the shadow of a grey fox loomed in front of them. One of the villagers turned to flee as they realized what was happening but the fox lunged at them. A swift bite to the shoulder and the villager was out cold. The fox turned to the other villager but then seemed to change its mind. It fled back into the safety of the trees.
Later on in the night two more howls were heard and a loud scream sounded as teeth met flesh. And yet again in the night a howl was heard by the villagers. This one seemed more mournful and pained then the two before it.
For some time no one would go near the woods as howls would be heard at all intervals of the night. One was much louder and a good deal more mournful then the rest. It was that of the young fox, who knew she had created more monsters. She also knew that yet another had been created that night.
Some time passed and there was no word from the three villagers who had gone searching for the missing fox. People forgot about them entirely and so when the villagers counted their number and found three extra they thought nothing of it. But no one forgot about Kichou. Although no one actively looked for her either as the bridge to the town had been washed away in a flood and howls were constantly heard in the woods. And not a single villager could say for sure where Kichou had gone.
That is until the fox turned up again in the town.
She visited every single villager in the morning and stopped to leave a single red rose on every villager's doorstep just before nightfall. During the night the howls were heard again, this time within the village itself. Two villagers woke up in a cold sweat and remembered their vision from years ago. But they dismissed it as merely a nightmare and quickly fell back to sleep.
The other who knew Kichou's condition had found a yellow rose in their garden that evening. She had left the friendship rose in thanks for the healer attempting to help her when she found that she had the curse. The thank you didn't go unnoticed. That night every house had a sprig of wolfsbane left on the doorstep. Her friend knew what she was asking with the rose. Kichou didn't want any more of her friends harmed because of her actions.
But the precaution would not be able to save the fox. She had strayed way to far from the boundaries of her territory. The same forest that she had thrown the other three out of had become her home. And now she was too far away from her den.
During the night a second howl was heard followed by the sound of glass breaking. The form of a wolf would be seen by anyone who looked out of their windows at this point in time. But no one did. The whole village was asleep save for the wolf and the grey form heading for the woods. Two more howls echoed the first, followed by a second and third sound of breaking glass. The grey shadow stopped in its tracks as two forms loomed in front of it. Turning to run, the shadow which could now easily be determined as a fox, found that she was surrounded.
"WHAT are YOU doing HERE?" The first snarled.
"YOU don't BELONG," Their sibling wolf added.
"Why stick YOUR nose in OUR affairs. It's bad enough I have to deal with the TWO OF THEM," the other blocking the way all but howled.
The fox chose not to respond. She knew exactly who they were and she also knew that nothing she would say would make any difference. It didn't matter what she did or how calmly she tried to explain, They had found her outside her own territory and they wanted revenge for what she had put them through. She honestly couldn't blame them either. If it was her in the same predicament, she might have done the same.
She looked from one wolf to the next and saw that they felt there was no going back. With a jolt the silver fox realized she had to make a decision and quickly. Run and hope she could make it back to the safety of her forest or stay and fight for her right to live in the village.
Running was easier. The fox crouched down and sprang up above the wolves’ heads and began running. Only to find that she was running in the wrong direction. She turned quickly around to find herself face to face with the lone wolf. The fox could tell the difference easily, though no seer or healer or villager would know the difference. It was something in the eyes, or was it the fur? Either way she knew. She looked behind her and was unsurprised to find that the other two had joined the first.
"Lost your way miss fox? It ends here." The three wolves circled around the fox. Kichou snapped at them every time a muzzle got too close to her. She was following their movements very carefully looking warily for any opening between them that she might be able to run through.
But it couldn't last. She was facing overwhelming odds. In the end she fainted from overexerting herself. With a single nip to the neck the fight was done. The fox never knew which wolf it was, and so it cannot be told.
In the morning Wingforce, Maria, and Cynder found her battered body in the center of the village. The wound on her neck told all what had happened. She was still in between forms, caught always as a silver furred gray fox. Every doorstep had been stripped of the wolfsbane. All that was left was the red roses that Kichou had attempted to warn them with before her untimely death.
It was quite clear that Kichou had been a Lycan.
