thorn's patrol is practically finished when a cat leaps out at them! they shake their head, saying theyre very loud and easy to spy on, but they can teach the clan their ways if theyre allowed to join as a scout. thorn asks how they know about their ranks and the cat shushes him, telling him they know ~everything~

LETS GO LESBIANS!!! oriolebeak and mothfoot join as a leetol couple. mothfoot is pregnant with a tom that #broke her heart and oriolebeak basically helped her through it and they fell in love and now they're married <3 theyre super excited to join the clan and see a thriving nursery, knowing that their kits will fit in perfectly here.

wolverinestar says chill it with all the kits guys or else we're gonna meet the capacity soon and then people will have to die/move out. the clan's response: no lol
to solidify this, broomlift and pumpkinseed go into the wilderness and "find" some kits (hint hint she actually gave birth to them omg). she says yea um. they were just. there. ignore that they might look like me idk. she sneaks into the nursery at night to feed them and bond with them. this totally wont effect them later on in life (it will)

rockpaw attempts her assessment!! it's the first one so everyone's nervous. pumpkinseed gives her a debrief of some herbs to use in a pinch, but other than that, it's up to her to survive a moon alone in the wilderness, hunting, fighting off any threats, and finding her way back to the clan. if she does that, she will have to jump from the mountain into the lake and swim to the bottom to retrieve her pebble that symbolizes her full initiation into the clan as a warrior. everyone wishes her luck, and she departs on her journey.

“ The mood of the Caveclan cats had been grim recently. The warrior ceremonies of Lilystem and Chiveclaw’s kits, as well as the birth of Spikebush’s daughter, Skykit, had lifted the clan’s moods briefly, but the loss of two apprentices so quickly had been a painful blow. The vigil for the two apprentices had been a solemn affair, their parents and siblings dark-eyed with grief. Juniperfoot already shared Harestar’s nest in the leader’s den but that night, Mosspaw, Cranepaw, Heronpaw, and Rainpaw joined their parents in his den. The rest of their family spent those early days of grief close together as well. Sedgetail and Burrwhisker kept Shellpaw and Mistypaw company, curled around their children. The next day, his eyes still dull with pain, Harestar set Moonpaw and Echopaw with the task of caring for the queens and elders until their mentors felt they were ready to return to training. As if sensing that Echopaw had a protest forming on the tip of her tongue, Harestar’s blue eyes narrowed and he cut her off, his voice sharp, “You were reckless and irresponsible. Reedpaw and Minnowpaw died during the attack and the both of you could have just as easily joined them in Starclan. Until you two learn the value of protecting your clanmates and listening to your mentors, you will remain in camp, caring for the queens and elders. When Chiveclaw and Duskheart finally do allow you to leave camp, you’ll both be required to have strict supervision from at least one warrior. One toe out of line and you’ll be back to being confined to camp.” Both apprentices shrank back at the anger in Harestar’s expression and he let his words sink in for a moment before letting himself soften. Despite how reckless and irresponsible the apprentices had been, their experience would not be forgotten. The sisters were crouched together, fur bristling with large, frightened eyes, and Moonpaw was even shaking a little. Harestar sighed to himself and forced his own fur to lie flat and reminded himself that they were hardly older than kits. Not many warriors would have made the mistake they had but cats their age were reckless. It didn’t make what had happened okay but in a way, Harestar could understand. In their own way, they’d wanted to help Caveclan. “I’m sorry Harestar! Nothing would have happened if we hadn’t gone out. Reedpaw and Minnowpaw…” Moonpaw’s voice shook, guilt flooding her eyes. Softening, Harestar mewed gently, “Apologies accepted. That was a brave thing you all did, taking on that rogue. Foolish but brave. Not many warriors would have considered doing that. I know you meant well but I hope that this will not happen again.” Harestar told her. He dismissed them with a small flick of his tail and padded over to join his mate in their den.

Minkflutter eyed the group around her with some trepidation. Narcissus was strangely quiet, his attention wholly focused on the strangely blue ticked tabby kitten the patrol had been given, while Poppypounce and Ferngaze chattered on with the pretty dilute tortoiseshell and cream molly. In the same interaction that led to the clan being given the oddly blue kit, they’d come across the dilute tortoiseshell molly. She’d hardly drawn a breath to speak before Ferngaze gasped, green eyes startled. “Heatherbreeze!?” Heatherbreeze blinked, surprise flooding her blue eyes as she eyed Ferngaze. “Needlepaw!?” The gray tabby shook her head, a flicker of nervousness and sorrow flashing in her eyes. “I was. I’m Ferngaze now. Caveclan took me in.” As she spoke, Ferngaze glanced at Narcissus, expecting the ticked tabby to chime in with his story of “saving” her when they’d first met, before they’d been found by Lilystem and Wrenpaw but he was quietly fussing over the kit. Ferngaze wasn’t the only one to have noticed this either. Minkflutter, who had found herself on the receiving end of the tom’s flirtatious manner more than once, watched him with an expression of startled curiosity. As the patrol had decided to bring Heatherbreeze to camp with them, Minkflutter reflected on the fact that she’d never seen him so serious. Even back at camp after Harestar allowed Heatherbreeze to stay with them and Spikebush generously took the new kit under her care, Minkflutter was fascinated by how protective Narcissus was behaving. It was a whole new side to Narcissus that she’d never seen before. Perhaps he wasn’t so bad after all.

“ Three pairs of kit-blue eyes stared out over the camp with mingled curiosity and nervousness. “The camp’s so much bigger than I thought!” Owlkit exclaimed, excitement blazing in her eyes. “It’s too big! Can’t we just stay here? Frostflower said that Pearkit’s going to open her eyes any day now!” Condorkit glanced longingly back towards the comforting warmth of the den, where the sleeping Frostflower lay curled around a tiny kit, fur gently rising and falling as she breathed. “Mom and Ivyshell are out!” Owlkit pointed out. “Come on, it’ll be fun!” Peregrinekit charged enthusiastically out of the den, leading his siblings out of the den. Skidding to a stop in the center of the camp, Owlkit and Condorkit struggled to stop in time, with Owlkit getting a mouthful of Peregrinekit’s tail fur and Condorkit tripping over his own paws. Shooting Peregrinekit an annoyed look, Owlkit spit out his tail and made a face of exaggerated disgust but before the little female could say anything, amused laughter that was quickly hushed drew the littermates attention. “Quiet Flynn, be nice!” Two cats slipped out of the shade of a juniper tree, approaching the kits curiously. “Hi kits! This must be your first time out of the den isn’t it?” The dark ginger tom spoke, eyes dancing with amusement. “I’m Flynn.” He introduced himself, lifting his paw to elegantly tip his hat in greeting. “I’m Mistlepaw. You three must be Rookflower’s kits! It’s nice to meet you!” The white molly greeted them. Condorkit scrambled to his paws, looking at the bigger cats with wide eyes. “Are you guys warriors!? You’re so big!” Owlkit gave a small gasp, her eyes widening with awe but Peregrinekit tipped his head doubtfully, eyeing them. “They can’t be warriors! They don’t look so scary!” Flynn’s whiskers twitched as mischief flared to life in his brown eyes but before he could speak, Mistlepaw shook her head. “We’re apprentices. Sootstorm says I’m just almost ready to take my assessment though.” The kits gasped, awe from Owlkit and Peregrinekit and nervousness from Condorkit. “What do you have to do?” He squeaked, nervously. “I have to climb to the top of the canyon.” Mistlepaw explained. “Sootstorm and Sagestar said they might make us do it together though.” She said, glancing at Flynn, who nodded. “It’s going to be so easy!” He boasted, sitting up eagerly. Mistlepaw looked a little less sure but she just shook her head, leaning down to whisper conspiratorially to Owlkit, “He hasn’t even learned to climb yet.” Flynn, having not heard her, had begun displaying his “climbing” skills to Peregrinekit and Condorkit. Mistlepaw watched him for a moment, seeming unsure whether or not to help the younger tom. “Come on Flynn, let's take the kits to meet Stonepelt.” She suggested after a moment of watching the tom stretch his forepaws out along the ground in such an odd manner she had to struggle not to giggle at his attempts. “Who’s that?” Condorkit asked, looking relieved not to think about climbing the canyon anymore. “He’s this ancient old tom. The oldest cat in the entire clan but he tells great stories.” Flynn told them and Mistlepaw narrowed her eyes at him. “Alright alright, maybe not ancient but he is the oldest cat in Pinyonclan. He’s done amazing things. One time, he told me about the time he took on two huge dogs all by himself!” Flynn said admiringly. “Wow! Mom says dogs are scary! He must be strong” Owlkit breathed. Flynn and Mistlepaw nodded, leading the kits towards where the gray elder was sunning himself on a low, flat rock. After leaving the three kits safely with Stonepelt, the apprentices would join Sagestar and Sootstorm for training.
