Territory
TropicalClan, as the name suggests is located on a group of tropical islands, mostly covered in thick rain forest vegetation. Because of the climate, the humidity is high and it rains almost every day.
Swimming is an important part of these warriors' lives, as it is necessary to travel between the islands and also because these felines' diet mostly consists of fishes.
The Main Island consists of the camp, the Ruins, a lake, a creek and the Training Grounds. Cats can only leave this island after
The Small Island in an excellent place for hunting and herb collecting, however the great benefits come with great danger: the whole area is filled with venomous spiders and scorpions.
The Starlit Island most of the time can only be visited by medicine cats and their apprentices every halfmoon. This is where StarClan talks with the living.

Reputation
The cats of TropicalClan are known to be mysterious and secretive, mostly keeping to themselves. They are also well-known for their strict behaviour and for being extremely mistrustful of strangers. They are extremely skilled swimmers and climbers with sharp minds.
Characteristics
Despite all the rumours, these warriors are just normal cats with all kinds of personalities. But it’s true that they have to meet high expectations, especially when it comes to loyalty.
Cats born inside TropicalClan usually (but not always) have sleek fur, a slender frame with wide shoulders and strong, webbed feet. Since it’s quite dark in the rainforest, they have excellent vision, but are a little sensitive sunlight. Their sense of small is also outstanding

A warm sun peered down from above, perched at the top of a clear, blue sky. Its reflection was scattered, light cascading atop the waves, interrupted only by distant whitecaps. A lone boat rocked gently against the beach, the surf rolling gently around it as if to try and coax it back out into open waters. Fine sand had been patted around the ship’s bow to keep it from wandering off with a stray wave, and a set of divots along the shoreline trailed away from it.

Her owners were only a few tail-lengths ahead, hands clasped together between them, but they still kept glancing over their shoulders to make sure she was keeping up. Tessa was more inclined to take her time, more so out of her own desire than because of any sort of obstacle. She’d been on a number of journeys in her short life, and had seen more of the world than her own home. She delighted in taking her time, taking everything else in, and she wouldn’t be bothered to pick up the pace. Her steps led her closer to the rocky slope of the island, where the sweet birdsong of critters unknown called out to her from above.

A tug at her back quickly reminded her that she didn’t yet have that option available. Normally, Tessa’s owners removed the leash as soon as they were away from the rest of the humans, but they seemed to be acting a little more cautious on this trip than on any of their prior. Not that Tessa could find a reason to argue. The ground here was unlike anything she’d ever experienced before, soft and quick to shift beneath her weight. The water pulsing up onto the land was new, too – she’d only ever see such a great body of water through the window of the plane. Tessa had never been so close to it.

She didn’t particularly seek to get any closer, however. The salty stench of it was nearly too strong to bear, and Tessa longed to seek solace within the tall ferns and streaked palms perched atop the cliffside. Within a couple of minutes, the greenery faded from view as her owners ducked into an open cave, where the ceiling and sides had been eroded away to resemble a poorly-made upside-down basket. It was open to the waves and sky above, glowing with refractions of the sun’s light. It was pretty, in a lopsided way, and Tessa appreciated the patches of shade present after having been laid bare to the sun over the course of the boat ride and then the fiery grains of sand on their brief walk to the cave.

The leash was soon removed, and Tessa was free to wander towards the back of the cave, scouring the rockface for some sort of pawhold. There were a couple of decent ledges that caught the pale molly’s eye, and her mind ticked off a reminder to return to them to sunbathe after she’d thoroughly explored. While her owners danced down towards the water, soaking each other with playful splashes, Tessa nosed her way into one of the deeper crevices. There was something like a tunnel, crawling up through the stone with only cracks in the side giving way to a view of the sea.

Curiosity had her whiskers ticking forward, nose going to work exploring the entrance of the channel. It had a very… cold smell – something the molly couldn’t exactly explain. It was intriguing and without a second thought, Tessa pressed a paw into the tunnel. But before she could take another step, a bitter frost flushed through her body, sinking into her joints and holding her steady. Tessa’s breath puffed out frantically, visible before her very eyes, but even as the panic swelled within her, it calmed and smoothed out in a stilted form of peace, completely beyond her control. Held in limbo, the molly awaited whatever it seemed this force was after, but nothing came.

Then, a brush of fur against her own. Tessa peered out of the corner of her eye, unable to turn her neck, but she could see nothing. No one was there, even as she felt them slip by her, body after body slinking up towards the unknown. And then, they started leaping through her, boundless excitement building within her system. It wasn’t hers – Tessa could tell she was still in an enforced calm state, unable to feel anything other than what was being given to her. She could feel the entities moving, leaping up from the sand and sinking through her body to journey up through the tunnel. She could feel their whiskers twitch against the stone walls, feel their pawsteps from beneath her own pads, feel the bump of their shoulders as they playfully goaded each other forward.

It was exhilarating, and there was something about it – the ceremonious movement, the sense of comradery, the overwhelming feeling of joy, that urged her forward, up towards the forests she’d only glimpsed before. But before she could set her other paw down and dash forward to join them, her belly was encircled by the arms of her owner and she was pulled away. It was only then, when the chiding of her owner began, that she realized that her ears had been flooded with noise – laughter and a form of speech that teased at being recognizable if only she’d had a moment more to listen to it.

Tessa shivered as the frosty embrace of whatever entity or entities had embraced her vanished, fading away into the warmth of her owner. The pale molly shook herself, pressing her paws against her human until she was released back onto the sand. A warning command and the threat of her leash was enough to keep Tessa from venturing back towards the tunnel, but she still held her gaze towards it. There was an itch burning deep in her chest, but before she could allow it to take her again, Tessa turned to watch the waves roll up the shore. She paused to get her chest a reassuring lick before venturing away from the rock wall, trying to ignore the call whispering at her back.

The ledge from earlier had, in fact, been the perfect spot for an afternoon nap, warmed to a toasty temperature from the sun above. A strip of shade had moved over to keep the beating heat off her back, so Tessa was free to stretch out and lose her mind in a daze – a task more difficult than she would have hoped unfortunately. The call of that tunnel, and of those creatures – they still called out to her and resisting the urge was becoming difficult. Her limbs were buzzing with nervous energy, twitching with the desire to move and seek out answers. Shoving the urges down had been working earlier, but she feared if she stayed on this island a moment longer, she would lose to the temptation.

As if hearing her thoughts, the pale calico’s humans had finally started packing up, rushing back and forth to gather their things and pack them down into their travel bag. Tessa watched them with mild intrigue, studying their hurried movements with something akin to curiosity. She’d seen them pack up, of course – so many times that the routine had actually become quite boring – but they were in a rush this time, it seemed. The molly pulled back in a stiff stretch, arching her back before languidly melting back into a furry puddle against the stone. Her tail flicked gently, in time with the receding waves.

Her eyes had just about closed, ready to once more slip into a dreamless sleep, when she was startled awake – her owners were screaming Tessa’s name, but it was so hard to hear anything beneath the static roar of the incoming wave. Standing tall before her was a colossal wall of water, ferociously invading the sky and snuffing out the sunlight as it screeched towards them. Tessa’s pupils shrunk and her ears flattened into her scalp. A miserable cry warbled out of her throat, but her owners had fled without her and the echo of her name was long gone.

Before she could be consumed by the waves, the whispers of the tunnel cried out to her, beckoning her towards them and Tessa didn’t hesitate before scrambling off the ledge and diving into the tunnel. With each scurried step, the wave grew closer and she watched in horror as the land around her was quickly consumed. Water had seeped into the tunnel and was beginning to lap at her paws, chasing her upwards. Then it was at her belly, splashing through the crack beside her and spitting into her eyes.

Tessa screeched in her panic, paws digging painfully into the stone as her desperation overwhelmed her. Her chin was soaked and each desperate gasp of air was a hard battle fought and won. The pale molly feared the moment she’d lose was fast approaching and she cried out for someone, anyone, to help her. The rogue wave slammed against her backend, pulling viciously at her legs and threatening to drag her down. She could already feel her paws slipping beneath her, losing purchase against the ground and leaving her free-floating.

Just as she was slipping back outside the tunnel, the waters seemed to freeze in place. A rush of voices cascaded around her, bounding up towards the tunnel’s end. Their accents were foreign, but she could hear the insistence in their words, the hurried warnings whispered against her flank. She could feel the faint pressure of bodies pushing against her, settling her paws back onto the stone and working her limbs back into motion. Tessa ran alongside them, their pawsteps beating to the same rhythm and their fur brushing against the same stone. The light at the end of the tunnel grew closer, brighter, warmer. And just as she was getting used to the presence of these strange entities, they vanished with her final leap into the forest above. The noise of the water returned, and she peered over the edge of the cliff to watch the waves pull away, defeated.

Her owners and their boat were nowhere to be seen. But still, she looked.

What an ugly cat.
The twolegger’s voice was still in his head, saying words that ran contrary to everything he’d known before.
What an ugly cat.
The whispers of the other cats and the twoleggers around him. His own twolegger, who had previously called him a handsome boy, now looked to be filled with disgust. Every whisper, every word, cut deep and sharp.
Ugly.
Ugly.
Ugly.
He’d ran, he hadn’t stayed to go into his box and go home, he had run from the many chasing twoleggers, the other cats laughing. The primed and fancy pedigrees whose spoiled air tainted his nose.
He’d run and he hadn’t looked back.
Ugly.
It had been weeks of running, a moon or two. His vision was grey from hunger. He’d been eating algae out of streams and unlucky creatures dead by the thunderpath. He didn’t know which direction he’d come from, and he had no idea where he was going.
He just had to escape the word that clung to his fur like a curse.
Ugly.

Ice Cream stared at the ragged, collapsed tom with the split tail laying half in the stream. Ice Cream wondered if it was worth it to take this cat to the den, with how dead he looked.
The cat groaned, splashing lightly as he attempted to scrape mud from his eyes with a paw. Ice Cream could see the tom’s ribs sticking weakly from his fur. With a sigh, he slid under the body and picked up the other tom, before heading back towards the den.
The weak, split tailed tom didn’t even struggle or fight, he just hung weakly and heavily on Ice Cream’s back. With worry, the deputy picked up his pace, because this cat was acting very uncatlike.

Tealeaf had managed to nurse him back to health, and now he stood in front of Pizzastar and Ice Cream. He gulped.
Pizzastar smiled. “So, you were once a kittypet, huh? Do you have a name?”
He shook his head and worked up the courage to speak. “No, I...don’t want to be what my twolegger called me.”
Pizzastar nodded with understanding. “Then hereby, I’ll call you Keylime! I think it’s a good name for you, and if you don’t like it we can always consider changing it!”
Keylime let his new name sink in. It sent tiny ripples through his heart, ripples that stirred up that word, the word that haunted him.
Ugly.
His lime green eyes filled with tears as he nodded.
He was Keylime now.

Ugly ugly ugly.
He slouched at the edge of the roof, where he’d been hiding for a few days now. He didn’t want to bring his ugliness upon the other cats, he should leave again. He should run and hide and live forever in a cave, alone, where no one would see him.
Ugly.

Ice Cream watched with worry. Keylime had joined and seemed to be doing fine for a day, but then had started disappearing up here to stare out and sigh heavily. He didn’t react when Groundpaw pounced on him, he wouldn’t talk to Tealeaf, and he avoided Pizzastar as if the leader would tear down the wall he was putting around himself.
Ice Cream sighed and trotted forward. He’d brought Keylime to the clan, so he was going to be the one that helped the cat. He felt responsible for the other tom.
“So, Keylime, what are you doing up here?” Ice Cream said, watching as the other cat jumped. Okay, he’d been a bit sudden, he’d not realized Keylime hadn’t seen him coming.
Keylime gulped. “N-nothing...um I m-mean, thinking. I think I should leave.” He stuttered slightly, a sign that he’d been crying.
Ice Cream shook his head, and sat next to the other cat. “No, you shouldn’t. Something is eating you, and if you leave the protection of the clan, what eats you will come from the outside, not the inside. Tell me what’s wrong, and then I’ll consider letting you go.”
Keylime turned to Ice Cream, his eyes moist. “I u-used to be a k-kittypet.” He swallowed, and cleared his throat. “I mean, I used to be a kittypet. I was a show cat, and my twolegger would attend to my every need, and call me handsome.”
Ice Cream nodded. “So you were a prettypet.”
“Yeah, I was a prettypet. But then, my twolegger brought me to a big show in a strange city, and the judges started calling me ugly. Then the other twoleggers joined in, and the other prettypets. My own twolegger, who had called me handsome, looked at me with disgust. So I ran, I ran and I ran, but...”
Ice Cream raised a brow. “But what? You ran and you came to us. Some twoleggers were mean to you, but twoleggers are stupid so that means nothing. Some prettypets were mean to you, but they are mean to everyone they consider lesser.”
Keylime hissed. “BUT I’M UGLY! I came here, and I’m UGLY! I ran so no one would have to see me, and yet you all keep looking at me! I keep hearing them calling me ugly! I keep waiting for one of you to call me ugly! Pizzastar calls Moonpie gorgeous, but says nothing about me, what if she thinks I’m ugly?”
Ice Cream didn’t mean it, but he interrupted Keylime with laughter. “I’m sorry but Pizza? She doesn’t think you’re ugly! I don’t think you’re ugly, none of us do! But Pizza? I don’t think ugly is in her vocabulary, she thinks that twoleggers are cute and that trees are adorable. Yesterday, I saw her practicing pickup lines on a pile of rubble. She then used those lines on Moonpie, who already knows Pizzastar likes her. If you asked Pizza, she would call you handsome, and would probably threaten to eat you because you’re cute!”
Keylime gulped. “You guys...don’t think I’m ugly?”
Ice Cream shook his head. “No, we don’t. I think you’re cute. I think you have a good warrior personality under all your layers of prettypet fluff. You’re nice to Groundpaw even when she jumps on you. You don’t say anything about how Maple talks. You listen to Tealeaf when no one else does. You didn’t question Moonpie being a molly once, you didn’t think anyone else was ugly.”
Ice Cream leaned forward, pushing his head against Keylime’s in a show of affection. “You are beautiful, inside and out, because you see the beauty in everyone around you. Ugly means nothing, because ugly is not a part of who you are.” Ice Cream pulled away and stood up. “Come with me, and talk to Pizzastar. If you have any doubts about your beauty after talking to her, maybe then I’ll consider you a lost cause, but until then, you’re not allowed to mope about. After all, you’re a warrior now, so you have to start working for your food.”
As Ice Cream trotted towards the rubble pile that led inside, Keylime slowly stood to follow the other cat. And as Ice Cream’s tail disappeared into the darkness, Keylime blinked away the last of his tears and followed the other tom downstairs.

His belly growled at the lack of food.
He growled back angrily.
He missed his barn, he missed the horses, and he missed the way he was called Little Doggy. He’d been in the horse trailer napping with his favorite horse, White Floyyd. Then the trailer had taken them both somewhere, and White Floyyd was being led off by a new twolegger, towards a new barn.
He’d pounced on some mice, and waited for White Floyyd to come back. His twolegger left with the trailer, and he’d begun to worry, but not too much.
Little Doggy had moved towards the new barn, where he saw White Floyyd was gone. His scent was light in the air, but the horse was nowhere to be found. A mare had Floyyd’s scent, but she just blew air on Doggy’s head as he sniffed around for his horse.
Floyyd...was gone? Had he missed the horse being led into the trailer? He started to run, he had to get home!
He was LOST.
His stomach growled again and Doggy glared at the thunderpath. If he wasn’t attempting to follow it home, he’d be able to find game. But the monsters made noise and scared away the prey, and the prey he did find was...rather flat.
And he was very very lost.

There was no way he was finding his home, he knew that now. Every time he found a barn, he ran up and sniffed around, but Floyyd wasn’t there, and none of the barns were HIS. And now, he was coming up on a twolegger city, and he knew he’d gone the wrong way. He’d gone the wrong way, for several moons, and now he was lost.

The other cats found him at the edge of the fence around their giant clan den. He was laying between the fence and the thunderpath, staring angrily at the twolegger city rising in the distance.
The smallest cat poked him with a paw. Doggy made a noise he felt was threatening, but instead got a mrrt of laughter from the young cat. She turned to the older cat who was with her. “Can we keep him Ice Cream? He looks like he needs something to eat!”
The tom poked Doggy with a paw as well. “Get up and come with us, we have food, and our leader did say that starclan was sending us a new friend soon. Even if you’re not that friend, you look like you’re in need of some assistance, and it’s not in our nature to turn a cat away.”

The next day, Doggy sat in front of Pizzastar, fed, groomed, and feeling a LOT better about himself. The leader had spent the night thinking about new names for him so he’d fit in better in the clan, and now she beamed at him with FAR too much amusement.
“Little Doggy! While you are here, you need a new name, and so I have thought, and thought, thinking of a name not too far from your own that would fit you! By the powers vested in me by Starclan, and my infinite knowledge of human foods, I’ve determined that your new name shall be Hushpuppy, because you were a doggy, but you’ve got such a delightful past that I wanted a food that would fit. Welcome to the clan, Hushpuppy.”
Doggy, no, Hushpuppy, considered his new name and then smiled back, bowing to his new leader. “For as long as I’m here, ma’am, I will be Hushpuppy, and I will loan your hunters my nose and claws.”
He missed White Floyyd, but...he could be happy here too. And there was something about this place that reminded him of Floyyd.

(Bonus:
Back at the barn, White Floyyd paced his stall anxiously for several days after studding for the lovely mare. He wondered where Little Doggy had gone, and worried. But in his heart, he knew the small cat was safe. Several months later, he had a dream of Doggy meeting several other cats, who he’d never really known living and hunting in this barn. And Floyyd was happy, knowing his small cat friend was safe, and finally meeting other cats.)

Littledebbie was napping in the queen den when they heard a rustling. Opening a single eye, they spotted the apprentice, Groundpaw, watching from around a doorway with big wide eyes.
Smiling, Littledebbie stood and walked over to the apprentice. “Why hello dear, how are you doing today?”
The apprentice grinned back, all wide teeth and joy. “I’m good! I just wanted to check on you!”
Littledebbie sat next to Groundpaw. “I am doing fine. You know, you don’t have to check on me so often, I’m not going to explode.”
Groundpaw looked bashful. “I’m sorry, I just never saw a pregnant cat ‘afore. My old tribe all got took when I was still little, so I never gotta spend much time with the queens.”
Littledebbie felt embarrassed. Of course the apprentice would be curious if she’d never been by queens! “Well then, come here,” they said, laying on their side. “Put your head against my belly and listen.”
Groundpaw slowly did as asked, her small head resting on the belly that was growing larger each day. Suddenly, she shot up with excitement. “I heard the hearts! They go thudthudthuddathud!”
The queen laughed, throwing their head back with joy. “Indeed they do! There’s small lives inside my belly, and when they finish growing, they will come out ready to meet the world. They will be fierce and strong, and they will be MINE. And when they are old enough, they will train like you do.”
Groundpaw stared at the belly in awe, before resting her head against it again and purring softly. “Do you think, when they’re apprentices, I’ll be a warrior and can train them?”
“Yes, I do, and I want you to train extra hard so you can be as good a teacher to them as Ice Cream is to you.”
Groundpaw stood up, and bowed deeply, a trick she’d picked up from one of the other cats. “I promise, I will study extra hard, and when your kits are born, I’m gonna be the best teacher!”
With that, the apprentice left, running out the door and yelling for Ice Cream to teach her more.
Littledebbie smiled. They enjoyed this clan life, and all the little things that came with.
