Mirestar was shocked when she found to wandering warriors near the territory border the day before. So she asked them to state their business as they were dangerously close to being in Sloughclan territory. They explained their story and said they were in need of a new clan. Cautiously she allowed them to join the clan. The sun is now rising on a new day and Mirestar has decided to take Silentrapid and Fawnbreeze with her as she patrols the borders in the morning. This is so they get used to the lay of the land. Then she takes them to the best-known hunting spots to prove they can provide food for the clan.

Pizzastar had dragged Ice Cream out for another hunt, the apprentice and her brother settling in still. It was a beautiful evening, the sounds of crickets humming in the grass as they looked for food.
Pizza grinned and turned to Ice Cream. “Hey, Ice! Let’s have a race, the first one to that tree wins!” With her head, Pizza gestured to a tree at the top of a small ravine, a lonely little birch.
Ice Cream sighed. “If I win, I’m leading the next hunt.”

The two cats took off, paws padding silently on the dirt. Pizza pulled ahead, shockingly fast for her bulk. As she passed the tree, she yelled “I won!” before promptly disappearing over the edge of the ravine.
Ice Cream skidded to a stop, gazing below in sudden fear. Where was she? “PIZZASTAR!” he yelled, his eyes still adjusting to the darkness as he searched for the sign of her tabby orange and white fur.

Moon had been wandering the ravine bottom for a week now, with no real desire to go up. She’d left her clan, chosen the new name Moon, and had come here to live alone. The small animals made for a scarce snack, but there was no one here expecting her to be a tom. Only the quiet of the ravine, and the joy that came with being Moon.
At least, until today.
With a yowl, an orange and white cat plummeted from the sky, landing less than a foot away from Moon with an unpleasant sound. The other cat lay still as Moon came closer. As Moon’s nose poked the other cat, and the yell of “PIZZASTAR!” came from above, the other cat’s eyes slowly opened, a beautiful pair of hazel eyes.
The cat, Pizzastar if the yelling from above was any indication, smiled slowly. “Did you fall from starclan? Because you look like an angel!”
Moon felt herself choke. “NO! You’re the one who just fell, why are you flirting, aren’t you hurt?”
Pizza slowly rolled to her feet. “Nah, I only died a little, it’s completely fine. Almost as fine as you, wanna join my clan?”
Moon felt herself struggling to speak as the yelling from above continued.
Pizzastar looked up and yelled back, “I’M FINE! I’ll need help finding a way up, but luckily I found a beautiful cat down here!” She turned to Moon again. “Please help me get out of here? I feel a bit dizzy, I guess I might’ve gotten a bit hurt after all, but that’s not important, will you join us? We have good food, a nice den, and I’d love to get to know you more!”
Moon swallowed. Beautiful? Her? And from a clan leader no less? “Follow me, and I’ll consider your offer,” she heard herself saying, blood rushing in her ears.

Tealeaf was helping Maplesyrup and Groundpaw settle in when she heard Ice Cream yelling for her. She ran to the main den entrance to see Ice Cream and a new cat supporting a babbling Pizzastar.
Tealeaf moved forward to help, leading the three to the medicine den. “What happened?” she asked Ice Cream.
He made a pained noise. “She challenged me to a race and fell into a ravine.”
Pizzastar paused and looked at Ice Cream. “I WON the race!” Her voice cracked slightly. “And you were no help when Moon was getting me out of the ravine, all grabbing my neck and getting your paws in the way as she pushed my bottom.”
Ice Cream growled. “She WON the race by being an idiot, and she nearly killed Moon.”
Tealeaf looked at the new cat, taking in the tabby’s appearance. “I’m assuming you’re Moon?” she asked.
Moon nodded. “I am, I left my own clan awhile back and was living in the ravine when your clan leader decided to take a flying lesson.”
Tealeaf moved, settling Pizzastar into the bowl that served as a medicine den inside the main den. “Well you may as well both stay here for me to check for injuries. Even if you weren’t crushed, it’s helpful to stay here for a bit just in case you go into shock.”
Moon gulped. “I think I’ve been in shock since Pizzastar fell, did you know she’s been flirting with me since she woke up? I think she hit her head.”
Pizzastar sat up to gaze at the other two in the medicine bowl. “I didn’t hit my head, and I only died a little bit! I just woke up next to the most gorgeous cat I’ve ever seen in my life, and I want to make her my wife!”
Tealeaf looked between the two and felt panic coming on. Pizzastar looked fine, she sounded fine, but....
“YOU LOST A LIFE?” Tealeaf heard her own voice raise and crack. “ONE OF THE NINE LIVES YOU GET, AND YOU LOST IT IN A RACE?”
Pizzastar slouched down onto the small healing nest. “It’s not like I tried dying, it just happened. Everyone’s worrying about the wrong things. I’m FINE.”
Tealeaf couldn’t help but stare at her leader as Pizzastar pouted and kept grumbling about being fine. The other cat, Moon, was sitting there with an expression of bemused awe, and Tealeaf...felt like her world was crumbling.
This clan she’d joined, yes she adored her leader and how casual it was and how she had her own den and how the rain never leaked in, but...when her old leader had lost lives, he’d been out for a moon, complaining about his bones and making all the medicine cats anxious. Pizzastar was...well, being almost too casual for someone who had died.
Tealeaf looked at Moon. “Stay here for a bit, and make sure Pizzastar falls asleep. I need to go out and..look for herbs. When I get back I’ll see about getting you settled in, welcome to Cocoaclan!”
She made it outside the medicine bowl, keeping her composure, before rushing outside angrily.

Ice Cream looked up as Tealeaf stormed outside, leaving Pizzastar and the new cat, Moon, in the medicine bowl. He turned to Maplesyrup. “Go with her and watch out for her? I’m afraid she might be upset.”
Maple’s eyes followed the angry medicine cat and he nodded. “Indeed, it seems as if she is quite perturbed. I shall go with her and keep her from harm, though I think harm may need protecting from her.”
With that, Maple followed Tealeaf outside, his tail cheerfully in the air.

Tealeaf had rushed to the middle of the thunderplain, a flat piece of thunderpath with no monsters and bits of grass and rock shoving up through cracks in the ground. There, she paced back and forth, making noises in her throat that sounded somewhere between tears and laughter.
“Tealeaf, ma’am, what is bothering you so?” Maplesyrup asked.
Tealeaf turned to the far younger cat. “Where you’re from, when the leader lost a life, what did they do? Our leader is insisting she’s fine, and she is! But she lost a life, so she shouldn’t be fine! I don’t know what to do as a medicine cat, do I force her to relax or do I treat her as if nothing happened?”
Maplesyrup looked thoughtful as he sat near the pacing cat. “Well, in our group, before the twoleggers came, the leader did not have multiple lives, though she was far sturdier than most cats. She sometimes got hurt, but not badly, but other times got hurt badly. When she appeared to be injured badly, but was otherwise fine, she would get mad when anyone would fuss, so we would fuss more quietly, by making sure she napped more, and sending her on less dangerous missions.
“This allowed us to care for the leader, without making her feel as if we were being overprotective. I personally think that Pizzastar, for all she’s acting fine, was scared, but since she is the leader, she has to appear not scared, so that we don’t worry as much. For Pizzastar, we should probably allow her to do what she wants this time, and pretend we aren’t scared, because that will let her feel better herself.”
Tealeaf considered the young tom. “You’re very wise for one so young. Come along and help me find herbs, and I’ll tell you about my old clan while you tell me about your own.”

Watching her brother rush out after the medicine cat, Groundpaw slumped. She was alone with Ice Cream and his grumpiness, and he was always so serious.
Ice Cream looked nervously at this young cat he was supposed to train as she slouched. He sighed internally, was he really ready for teaching?
“Follow me, young one, I guess now is as good a time as ever to begin your training. We’re gonna start with climbing, and explore our den, it should be fun, and we may find some secrets along the way.”
Groundpaw looked at her teacher, surprised. He wanted to explore?
Groundpaw shot up so quickly she fell down again, tripping on her own paws. Ice Cream felt himself staving off a smile.
The two moved up through the building, Ice Cream showing Groundpaw how to climb carefully up rubble and balance on beams as they climbed through the building. Unlike her brother’s attempts at teaching, Ice Cream was firm but nice, as opposed to easygoing and likely to just pick her up and carry her.Ice Cream sighed, but also hid smiles that Groundpaw realized he did far more often than he sighed.
When the two finally reached an upper pile of rubble, Ice Cream led his apprentice through a nearly invisible crack in the wall, out into sudden moonlight. Here, a flat top to their den, moss and vines covered the surface, turning the hard grey rock into a greenish grey that looked eerie in the night. Ice Cream led Groundpaw to an edge, where she could look out and see.
“Be careful, I’m not dealing with two creatures plummeting to their doom today,” the older cat warned.
Groundpaw looked out, and gasped in awe. She could see the entire territory, bathed in moonlight, and far off in the distance, the spires of the neighboring territory’s skeletons glowing softly. She jumped back to the roof, and ran to the other side, Ice Cream following behind with bemusement.
Here, the twolegger city in the distance glowed, and the bright monster eyes on the thunderpath to the south showed white and red as they rushed along. It was beautiful.
“I like it here! I’m glad me and bro decided to come here!” she squeaked, rubbing affectionately against Ice Cream’s legs in a small cat hug.
The older cat sat, his apprentice sitting beside him. “I like it here too, that’s why no matter what happens, I’m staying here. With the awful puns from our leader and how silly she acts. With your brother talking like he’s a fancy cat.”
“When bro was a ‘prentice, he learned from the smartest cat in the group, who used to belong to a ‘playwright’. Bro was always super proud of learning fancy, he keeps trying to teach it to me!”
Ice Cream stared down at his apprentice. “Well, that makes sense, but either way. Even if at first one doesn’t fit in, it doesn’t mean they don’t belong. Our clan might still be small, but i find that it only makes it more important for us to make it a home, one where anyone can feel welcome. Whether they’re a Pizzastar or a Maplesyrup, a Tealeaf or a Groundpaw.” He blinked, noticing that his apprentice had fallen asleep, still sitting against him.
It had been a long day.
Ice Cream slowly picked up his apprentice, being gentle so he wouldn’t wake her up, and then began the careful descent back into the den.

Moon looked at the clan leader sleeping, and she felt something strange. This huge, friendly cat had come barreling into her day with acceptance and love, and now...Moon was considering joining a clan again. One where she might be a warrior, but where at least one other cat would treat her as a queen.
Pizzastar rolled over in her sleep, and purred loudly.
Looking to make sure the medicine cat wasn’t back yet, Moon saw that the deputy and apprentice had also disappeared. They were all alone.
She curled up next to Pizzastar and fell asleep, feeling protected.
And the sounds of two harmonious purrs echoed from the medicine den, filling Cocoaclan’s denspace with peace and love.
