The current season is leaf-bare! That means it's very cold, and I can't say I'm enjoying it. The snow in some territories is quite beautiful and tempting to play in, though- maybe ask some of your friends to help you build a snowcat? Since it is so chilly, everyone is doing their best to stay inside, which means you'll catch less prey, as well as meet fewer new friends. It has become much easier for sickness to spread and queens will find that births are the most difficult in this season. Be cautious and make sure to stock up on healing herbs!

Featherpaw crept stealthily through the undergrowth, frustration pricking at her pelt. She had been so sure that she would be able to pass her warrior assessment with ease- in fact, she had been counting down the days- but now, with snow crunching under her frozen paws and the sounds of any sort of prey absent from her ears, she had never felt further from becoming a warrior. She had to keep herself from hissing in annoyance, and hoped that Dashear wasn't watching her dilemma.
She gave a small sigh and sat down in a clearing, thumping her tail as she thought of what to do next. There was a particular tree nearby that was usually home to a mouse nest... but no, a different patrol had cleared that out yesterday. She thought about climbing the trees to look for birds, but the lack of leaves would mean she'd have no cover. She let out a huff- this was a lot harder than she thought it would be.
"What's the matter, princess?" An unfamiliar voice, dripping with contempt, hissed from behind Featherpaw. She whipped around and came face to face with a ragged she-cat, her pelt riddled with various scars and her claws out. Featherpaw bushed out her fur and snarled. "What's it to you? Who do you think you are, intruding on RavenClan territory?"
The trespasser snorted. "What are you going to do about it?" She flexed her sharp claws and Featherpaw tried not to look at them gleaming against the snow. The apprentice crouched into a battle stance and the she-cat laughed again.
"Yeah, okay. Bring it on, softie." Before Featherpaw could react the she-cat leaped at her, bowling her over with ease and pinning her to the ground. She swiped at the apprentice's muzzle, but Featherpaw was ready. She knocked the older cat's paw out of the way and pummeled her attacker's belly with her hind paws before rolling, escaping from the she-cat's grasp and throwing her off balance in the process. The intruder quickly regained balance and launched herself full force into Featherpaw's side. Winded, the apprentice fell to the ground but reached out a paw and swiped as she went down, slicing open the she-cat's nose. The trespasser growled and shook her head, splattering droplets of blood onto the snow. Her eyes slits, she stalked up to Featherpaw and pressed a paw on the side of the apprentice's face, forcing her to stay on the ground.
"Don't get cocky because you know how to unsheathe your claws." She spat, pressing her face close to Featherpaw's. She kicked the younger cat in the stomach as if to prove her point, and the wind was knocked out of the poor apprentice, who struggled to regain her breath as the intruder locked eyes with her.
"This territory is Caesar's. You'll learn soon enough." With that, she sank her teeth into Featherpaw's scruff and yanked her upwards, dragging her back towards the RavenClan camp. "Let's go see what your precious Weaselstar has to say."
Still struggling for breath, Featherpaw could do little but let herself be dragged. Dread filled her body as she realized that she had not only failed her assessment, but she had failed to keep this threat away from RavenClan.
What am I going to do now?

Jasminestar had already circled the territory, keeping his eyes out for any cats or threats to his new territory. He sighed quietly, taking a seat by a cold rock at the border. He closed his eyes, exhausted and a bit stressed out. He sighed, before he knew it, slowly falling asleep...

... "Jasmine!" Fauna called, followed by giggling. She raced to catch up with the tom.
However, Jasmine was a bit faster. The two were running through a field of blossoms. He looked back at the beautiful she-cat, happiness and longing in his heart. As he turned his head to look ahead, the field turned back into his territory. He found himself in front of the cherry blossom tree at Piper's Point. He looked around for where Fauna went, his heart heavy. As he looked up at the sky, the sun started to set and rise quickly, almost in mere seconds. The flashing from day in night suddenly came to an abrupt stop, making him shudder deep in his bones...

Jasminestar awoke to a cat prodding at his sides. He blinked slowly, noticing the moon was out. 'How long was I asleep...?' He wondered, his brain just now starting to acknowledge the strange she-cat. He jumped up, taking a step back. "Wh- Who are you?" He questioned slowly, still a bit tired.
The ginger tabby gave a look of disgust, tilting her head. "You look familiar, sleepy... Like this friend I had, he used to stay somewhere around here." She seemingly ignored his questioned, taking a seat and continuing to stare awkwardly at Jasminestar.
The tom cleared his throat. "Are you talking about my brother, Gin-sing? Looks just like me, but brown?" He questioned, feeling a bit of hope flutter in his heart.
She shrugged. "He went by Gin-singstar, you two must be brothers." She admitted, pausing. "My name's Ember, he used to come to me for hunting training all the time. He kept begging me to join his clan, but I think he just thought I was pretty." Ember explained, puffing out her chest a bit.
Jasminestar smiled. "That's so like him... I go by Jasminestar." He introduced. "I'm taking over Shoreclan where he left off... I would be honored if you could join, I'd love to hear more about how my brother was before he died." The tom begged.
Ember giggled, walking past Jasminestar in the direction of camp. "I guess you're just like your brother, can't resist my natural beauty!" She bragged, her ego showing all too well.
Jasminestar rushed to follow. "Then by the power given to me by the great ocean spirits, you shall be known as Emberbear for your gifted... confidence and skills." He whispered a blessing to Gin-sing, proud of himself for recruiting more for his brother's legacy.

─ This Moon ─

Jasminestar woke up extra early, wanting to spend some time alone by the ocean shore. He looked across towards the Sand Bar, feeling the wind coming calmly from the south. He knew that his time by himself would come to an end once Emberbear woke up for some fishing.
However, for now, he combed the beach for some shells. He found himself very fond of the pretty things, all of them reminding himself of his love for Fauna. He took a breath, smelling the salty air. As he looked back at the shore line, he noticed a brown clam shell slowly washing up in the sand. He dragged the shell onto the beach with his tail, staring at the muddy brown color. It was almost like Fauna had been made into a shell, coming to him from the ocean.
"Jasminestar~! Time to get your butt ready for some fishing training!" Emberbear called from the Flowing Sapphire.
He looked up towards the voice calling for him, his eyes going back to the shell. He scooped it up, heading back to the camp in a hurry. Jasminestar couldn't explain the feeling he was holding, but he knew he needed to keep the pretty shell.

religion & beliefs ;
this clan is quite the odd one. they believe in an underwater deity and reincarnation, though to be brought back the cat
must be put to rest in the lake. a small raft is made and the lost cat is placed upon it before being sent out at dusk. the
lost cat's mate is to stand vigil during the night, to burn an offering to the great lynx all night to summon the mythical
beast so they bless their lost mate and escort them to their new life. the chief will take the mate's place should the
lost cat be unmated or their mate was kitting and unable to stand all night. should a mate refuse to stand, the chief is
not allowed to take their place. it's rare that a mate refuses to stand vigil, but should it happen, they are outcast from
the clan and ignored for a whole moon cycle after which they will be allowed to return only if they seek acceptance
from the chief.

a grieving mate is given a black cloth to wear in place of their usual attire, a sacred piece of fabric that is passed to
the next grieving mate by the previous one. they wear the cloth for a moon before passing it to the next grieving
mate. they may wear a less sacred black cloth to continue their mourning, but the sacred piece is worn no more
than a moon. the healer must have many of the sacred cloths in case of multiple grieving mates, though it's the
clan's worst nightmare to loose more than one or two cats at once.

the clan's deity is the underwater panther, also called the great lynx. it's a mythical creature from native folklore
and is the counterpart for the thunderbird. the beast is often depicted as a lynx with a scaled body and spikes
along it's spine as well as bison horns. because the great lynx has a scaled body and large scales are often found
the morning after an offering, the chief's name ends in -scale. also, because the thunderbird is the enemy of the
great lynx, the suffix -feather is deemed almost a curse upon the cat receiving it.

social structure ;
though they are a rather different type of clan, they still have the same basic structure as most clans, though the
ranks are named differently:
chieftain - the male leader of the clan, can be the actual leader or the mate to the leader.
chieftess - the female leader of the clan, can be the actual leader or the mate to the leader.

baron/ess - the deputy of the clan, they will become the next leader once the current one dies.

artisan - the artist of the clan, they are in charge of keeping the ranking marks fresh and applied.

healer - the name speaks for itself, they are sworn against mates and starting a family.
healers' apprentices - the young cats preparing themselves to become a healer.

lead hunter - the top hunter of the clan, they direct hunting groups and report to the leaders.
hunters - the name speaks for itself, they are the ones tasked with keeping the food stocked.

lead guard - the top guard of the clan, they direct scouting patrols and report to the leaders.
guards - the name speaks for itself, they are the scouts of the clan who keep the clan safe.

lead shepherd - the top shepherd of the clan, they keep records of all breeding and hatching
of the clan's birds. they also are in charge of the other shepherds and report back to the leaders.
shepherds - these are the cats who breed and hatch the birds of the clan, they are in charge
of keeping the birds healthy and making sure their owners are caring for them properly. they are
able to take a bird from their owner should the cat be mistreating or neglecting them.

apprentices - the young cats working to become a hunter or guard once old enough to be one.

caretakers - the cats who are unfit for hunting or scouting so they take care of those in the
nursery as well as those who are retired, such as bringing them food, keeping them company, and
giving them medicine prescribed by the healer. these cats are often elders who are still healthy
enough to be independent and still want to contribute to the clan.

nursery - the queens and their kits, they are all in one large den since most mothers prefer to
be close to their fellow queens, though there are a few solitary dens for those who want seclusion.
retired - the oldest of the clan, they are cared for by the caretakers when they become too old or
injured to care for themselves. they are retired from all clan work such as hunting and scouting.
appearances ;
these cats are all quite similar, though there are a few who are clearly from outside the territory, maybe even from
another clan many miles away. those born in the local area are built for the harsh weather that strikes during leafbare
with shaggier coats that will shed to a more medium length for the nicer greenleaf season. the colors of these cats are
often that of neutral colors, ones that will melt into the surrounding boreal forest. speckling and tabby stripes are pretty
common while white marks are more uncommon since they are too visible, though those with white marks are often put
as caretakers or guards instead of the sneaky hunters. many resemble main coons and norwegian forest cats.

reputation ;
the clan of the lakes is one of the most peaceful clans in the area. they live in the wilds of the canadian wilderness
which can't be said for many other clans who prefer living near humanization. the clan doesn't like to fight, they prefer to
talk it out and see if any disagreements could be settled without violence. only in dire circumstances will the clan declare
war against another clan and engage in battle. the leader is more likely to use one of their lives as a sacrifice to end any
rivalries and settle scores than to put his clan into a battle.

customs ;
there are several customs the clan partakes in that many outside the clan view as odd or even downright crazy. one of
them is the fact they keep birds as pets, though they don't call them pets. the avians of the clan are viewed as loyal
companions and not just simple pets. most birds of the clan are raised from birth to know the cats are friends and not
a predator. the shepherds are the ones responsible for raising the birds, but some cats like to raise their own with the
help from the shepherds.

another custom is the transition from apprentice to hunter, guard, or shepherd:

for an apprentice to become a hunter, they must leave for a hunt at dusk and return with their own
catch by dawn. if they are unable to make a catch before dawn, they failed the test and must wait
a moon before trying again. hunts can only happen at night, proving that even in the dark they will
be able to provide for the clan. all hunting apprentices are trained to hunt at night as well as day.

for an apprentice to become a guard, they must be able to stand vigil from dusk until dawn without
sleep or food. it is a vigil similar to that of a grieving mate's at the shoreline. this is on purpose. the
apprentice is standing vigil to show they are willing and able to remain alert during their duties and
it is also a homage to their apprenticeship which is now behind them with their promotion to guard.

for an apprentice to become a shepherd, they must go on the 'sacred search' and return with an egg
which they will then try to hatch. if the egg hatches and the hatchling within is alive, the apprentice
will become a shepherd while an egg that doesn't hatch will failed and must try again a moon later.
