Nettlemist curled her tail tighter around her belly. Luckily, her kits hadnโt grown much, and she was able to hide her status from Sunstomp. But lately they were starting to make her look more round, and Bumbleflight had urged her to move into the nursery. Anxiety pricked at her heart as she thought about what she was going to tell Sunstomp. She loved him, and he loved her, but these were not his kits. โHey Sunstomp.โ She sighed, turning to him โI need to tell you something.โ The tom looked up and gave her a sweet smile. โSure, whatโs up?โ Nettlemist decided just to say it. โI love you.โ She blurted โI really do, and I have for a long time, but...I made a mistake. I...Iโm pregnant, Sunstomp. I met this tom from another Clan, and it was just a fling. I donโt know what I was thinking, but I donโt love him and I doubt he actually cares about me. I havenโt told anyone but you and Bumbleflight. I donโt want anyone to knowโฆโ She trailed off and gave a sniffle. Sunstomp placed his paw gently on her shoulder. โI could tell something was different about you.โ He murmured sweetly โIโm glad you told me. I love you too, and if you truly want to, I will act like the kitsโ father. I will raise them with you, on one condition.โ Nettlemist blinked up at him. โIโll only do it if you become my mate.โ He grinned. The she-cat beamed and pressed her head into his neck. โOf course, I will. Thank you so much, you mean the world to me, and you will be the best father to these kits...I know it.โ Sunstomp nuzzled her back, and the mates sat in the sun, purring and discussing their future family.

Toadkit sat with his chest puffed out proudly. The fur on the top of his head was spiked and messy. Fognose looked down in embarrassment. โItโs not your fault.โ Swiftwind chuckled quietly โHe wouldnโt let us touch his fur. At least the rest of 'em look presentable.โ Fognose giggled, tilting her head in agreement. It was true, all of her kits looked nice and groomed...besides Toadkit. โIโm going to miss them.โ The mother sighed โBut itโll be nice to return to warrior duties.โ Swiftwind curled his tail around his mate. โThey grow up so fast.โ He mused โI remember when we were that young. How things have changed.โ The mother nodded. โIt was rough for a while, but weโll make sure they stay safe. Even when theyโre elders, theyโre still our little kits.โ The pair nuzzled each other lovingly. Elmstar waddled up in front of the group of gathered cats. Redfin was standing worriedly beside her. Ashtail had offered to do the ceremony, but the heavily pregnant leader had insisted. Her mate gave the deputy a concerned look, but relaxed a bit once the leader was settled. โCats of BearClan!โ Elmstar meowed โToday is a special day! It is time for these four young cats to be made into apprentices. They were the first kits to be born in our new camp, and Iโm sure they are ready to begin the journey to warriorship.โ The clan cheered and Elmstar began the ceremony.
Beanpaw bounced excitedly up and down. โI canโt believe weโre finally apprentices!โ She squeaked. Snailpaw shared her excitement. โI know! It feels so weird not sleeping in the nursery.โ She sighed as she prodded her new nest into shape โI hope Fognose doesnโt miss us too much.โ Mintpaw shrugged. โEven if she does, itโs not like she canโt come visit us. Weโre just across the hollow.โ Her siblings nodded in recognition of her fact, and continued on with their nest building. Suddenly, Beanpaw felt a timid paw tap her shoulder. Turning, she saw the soft, shy face of Mudpaw, the new apprentice who had been found on a patrol a few days prior. Beanpaw gave her a kind smile. โD-Do you have any feathers?โ Mudpaw asked quietly โI seem to have lost mine.โ The new apprentice nodded and gave her denmate the remainder of her plush feathers. โThank you!โ She purred, and turned to weave them into her nest. Beanpaw only looked away when Snailpaw jabbed her and snickered at her sister. It was obvious to her that a small crush was forming.

Tickpaw flopped into his nest. Piperpawโs head snapped up. โWhat are you doing?โ She meowed sternly โShouldnโt you be taking your assessment? Everyoneโs already gone out training! Youโll miss it!โ Tickpaw gave her a knowing smile. โIโm not taking it yet.โ He stated โIโm waiting for you. I canโt let you stay here with a bunch of rowdy kits.โ Piperpaw huffed. โYou were a rowdy kit once.โ She giggled, flicking him playfully with her tail โYou really donโt have to wait for me.โ Tickpaw shrugged. โI know,โ He sighed โbut I want to. Besides, Elmstar seems to be fine with holding off on a warrior ceremony until her kits are born.โ The two shared a laugh. โThanks, Tickpaw.โ Piperpaw said earnestly โI appreciate it. Youโre the best tom I know.โ Tickpaw raised an eyebrow. โWhat about your brothers?โ He asked, amused. Piperpaw rolled her eyes with a smile. โMy brothers are mouse brains who just want to wrestle all day. You actually have a personality and are fun to be around.โ Tickpaw snickered. โThanks.โ He chuckled โYouโre not so bad yourself.โ
