Season: Green-Leaf
Weather: The days are slowly starting to grow hotter and heat exhaustion will become a thing for your cats. You should be careful sending patrols in the middle of the day. Prey is still abundant as they enjoy the warmth and they need to focus on stuffing themselves for next leaf bare. Predators are also going to be about more and the odds of running into two legs or anything to do with them is rather high.

As you all have may noticed CaC has its very own lineart! The lines were created by the very talented Grey_Hoodie and are being colored in by various other mods, mini mods and the CaC artists. Allowing us to use the lineart for your cats lets us give more unique patterns as we are limited to free to use pictures. If you want your cats to be transferred onto the lineart all you have to do is get in contact with a mod and the team will take care of it.

I have also noticed that a lot of you have not been adding pebbles correctly. Remember, every post you make you get four pebbles automatically. Patrols will sometimes bring back extra pebbles they find as well! Pebbles can be used here at the cac store anytime!

xxxxxxxFrostpaw sniffed the two herbs. “Which one is stinging nettle?” Galalight pressed. “Quickly now, you have to induce vomiting!” He pressed a paw near the nettle he identified. “Good, now these. Which are holly berries?” He jumped towards the small poisonous berries. She led him to another selection but was cut off by a raven cawing. She gestured to the herbs before her but Frostpaw could not hear her over the raven screeching and flapping above her. Frostpaw hissed at the noisy bird but a half-hearted swoop towards his direction made him scurry out of the way. Galalight touched noses with him and disappeared back to what Frostpaw assumed was a much quieter section of StarClan. He hissed once more but felt himself waking, and he spent the entire day feeling unrested.

xxxxxxxSquirreltuft, Mousespeck, and Willowbranch followed their excited apprentices back into camp. It had been the brothers’ first ever training session and Willowbranch’s first session with Mistpaw. Even Somni, who had been particularly awful at learning the hunting crouch, was leaping with excitement. Sunstar stopped the warriors before they could disperse in the clearing. “How did everyone do today?”
xxxxxxx“Mistpaw did wonderfully!” Willowbranch purred. “She picked everything up quickly! I think Fogpaw was practicing with her earlier.”
xxxxxxx“That’s good news to hear,” Sunstar nodded and the molly found a nice plump mouse to nibble on. She sat alone while she ate clearly still missing the presence of her mate, Petalfall.
xxxxxxx“Nitor got the hang of it eventually.” Mousespeck said. “He just took a little longer to gain his balance.”
xxxxxxxSquirreltuft avoided the new leader’s eyes. He had wanted his first apprentice and first training session to have gone much better than it had. “Somni still needs some practice.” He muttered. He saw Somni waggling her rump unevenly by the other apprentices. It had taken all day to get such a mediocre result that definitely could not catch even the dumbest prey.

xxxxxxxFrostpaw’s dreams were now riddled with black feathers and persistent screeching. Every night he awoke quicker and quicker, and now he was running on no sleep at all. Wishpaw had to prod him after every bite of prey to make sure he didn’t choke on a mouthful of food. Mountaintop took him on brisk walks in the morning to try to get his mind up and moving but ended up practically dragging him back to camp. Frostpaw could barely stay awake but he couldn’t stay asleep either; he was dancing along some sort of limbo of the consciousness and unconsciousness.

xxxxxxxSoftdapple let the kits chase her fluffy tail. Quakekit and Dawnkit were the clumsiest of the four and ended up in a pile with poor Tornadokit who was helping Softdapple keep up with their energy. “We’ll miss you around here.” Silverstem lifted Tornadokit from the scuffle. “You’re a lot of help, you know.”
xxxxxxxTornadokit ducked her head. “It’ll be nice to have some quiet.” She muttered.
xxxxxxx“Quiet?” Silverstem gently laughed. “You’ll be the fourteenth apprentice!”
xxxxxxx“Just…” Tornadokit looked for the correct words. “They’re not kits.” Though, these weren’t the right words either…she truly hated looking at the spot where Rainsong was killed and Sandkit was taken.

xxxxxxxStinging nettle, stinging nettle, where did he put the stinging nettle? Frostpaw sniffed around the herb storage. Usually he had no trouble finding the herbs he knew, but this lack of sleep was gnawing at his brain. Stinging nettle, singing needle, signing nee…he collapsed spilling poppy seeds and sending yarrow spiraling everywhere.

xxxxxxxThe raven was waiting. “What do you want!” He screamed. “Leave me alone!” A second raven joined its branch. Then a third, and a forth, until there was an entire murder staring into his very soul. “What do you want?” He called a bit more uncertainly. If he still had his tail, he was ashamed to admit it would be tuck between his legs. A raven crowed from behind, the south. It beckoned, it fluttered, it called to Frostpaw. He spun around and faced it. “I won’t go until you tell me.” This statement, he realized, was useless as even in dreams, he could not talk to ravens. The raven cawed once more and swooped towards his head causing him to skitter sideways and continue that way. Now two ravens dove at him, and Frostpaw ran the opposite direction. More and more ravens joined in the chase until Frostpaw was sprinting down a dimly lit path towards the south.
xxxxxxxIt grew quiet and Frostpaw slowed his pace until he was stopped taking in deep heaving breaths. The ravens now lined the bare tree branches still watching him but with less malice now. He kept going down the path with the only noise being the rustling of leaves and feathers. Every now and then he glanced back up at them and they seemed to be disappearing as he went. As he padded along, a slightly familiar scent floated about and as he opened his mouth to better smell the pine scent, an orange oriental that had argued with him at the gathering. Behind him, the trees were filled with the ravens that had harassed him…just staring. He awoke the final time but still with the usual drama of the entire murder of ravens dive bombing him once more.

xxxxxxx“Frostpaw!” A voice called from above him and a warm tongue ran over his face. “He’s up, he’s finally awake.” The voice now Frostpaw realized belonged to Mountaintop was reassuring others that were standing watch. Frostpaw slowly blinked shaking the last grips of sleep from his mind. “You scared us, Frostpaw.” Mountaintop forced a smile. “You were out for over an entire day!”
xxxxxxx“I’m fine.” He grumbled and stretched. His body sure felt like he was on the hard ground for a day, and his muscles also felt like he had travelled a long way.
xxxxxxx“I brought a mouse.” Wishpaw tossed a small mouse in front of him which he and Mountaintop had to persuade him to eat. Frostpaw had a lot to think about.

xxxxxxxCrowtalon tossed a shrew to Eaglescreech who caught it easily in his mouth. “That good enough?” He asked and received a nod in return. They sit in a sunny spot to share the meal when Sunstar approached.
xxxxxxx“Crowtalon is showing you around properly, yeah?” Sunstar said.
xxxxxxx“Couldn’t have a better guide.” Eaglescreech smirked. Crowtalon tried not to look so pleased.
xxxxxxx“Wonderful,” Sunstar hesitated, “At the gathering we attended, Crowtalon, I got the chance to speak with Valleyrunner.”
xxxxxxxCrowtalon sucked in a breath. Why couldn’t I had gone? He thought, I haven’t seen him since he left and took Ravenpaw and Twilightpaw. “R-really?” Eaglescreech looked between the toms with a confused look on his face. “Valleyrunner was my…old mate.” He explained.
xxxxxxx“He is doing well, he wanted to say.” Sunstar continued. “Would you like to talk somewhere else?”
xxxxxxx“N-no, it’s fine here.” Crowtalon stuttered. He wasn’t prepared to hear all of this at all.
xxxxxxxSunstar hesitated once more. “Alright then. He has taken another mate, Orangeray, and has four new kits. Ravenpaw and Twilightpaw have each gotten their warrior names as Raventalon and Twilightpounce.” Crowtalon couldn’t hide his smile. Valleyrunner had fully moved on…now he didn’t have to feel guilty about enjoying his time in TwistedClan without him anymore. And Ravenpaw had taken on his own suffix.
xxxxxxx“That’s wonderful!” He exclaimed.
xxxxxxx“And…” Sunstar had relaxed since the tom was taking this new rather well. “Twilightpounce and her mate, Juncoflight, are expecting a litter of kits.”
xxxxxxx“Wonderful!” He shouted and leaped up. “I have to tell Mountaintop, he’ll be thrilled!” Eaglescreech and Sunstar were left in the mid-morning sun.

xxxxxxxSunstar stepped into the nursery. “Tornadokit?” He softly called.
xxxxxxxSilverstem greeted him instead. “She’s out with Pavilla.” She explained. “Pavilla took her out on a walk to groom and have some girl talk.”
xxxxxxxSunstar stared. “Girl talk?”
xxxxxxx“You know, it’s nice for a molly to have another molly to talk to.” Silverstem explained. “She doesn’t have a mother anymore, and sometimes you just need another mother to get advice.”
xxxxxxx“Advice for what?” He pressed.
xxxxxxx“Nothing in particular.” Silverstem said impatiently. “And…” Sunstar could tell another parenting lecture was coming. “You haven’t been around a lot lately, just two visits in the last moon if I have counted correctly. No, no, no.” She chided. “No excuses for your own kits. It doesn’t matter if you are busy, if Tornadokit is important to you, you’d find the time.” Again, he had a proper bashing and couldn’t find the words to defend himself. “I know you, Sunstar, and I know you are a good father, but you’re not acting like one right now!”
xxxxxxxSunstar backed out of the nursery with his head low and his tail between his legs. Silverstem reminded him of his mother and that was slightly terrifying. Now, he only had to wait for his kit to return and start her apprentice ceremony. He took this time to rethink his mentor decision. Should he really pick Lightningflash? He was a valuable warrior, but he had other concerns to worry about. He wasn’t deaf, he was very aware of the uneasy murmurings about the rogues. Even his own apprentice, Wishpaw, had been subject to rumors even though he mostly stayed near Frostpaw the majority of the time. He hoped this would show the clan he completely trusted the rogue additions. He saw her and Pavilla push through the bushes near the back of the cabin, and he purposefully made his way to the Ceremony Tree. When he called the clan to gather, he could see her tremble with excitement. “It is my pleasure to apprentice my very own daughter today,” He started “Tornadokit, would you join me up here?” Tornadokit scurried up the tree. “Tornadokit, it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, you will be known as Tornadopaw, and your mentor will be Lightningflash.” Sunstar paused while Lightningflash scrambled up to touch noses with Tornadopaw but she took a few steps back from her new mentor. “Come on,” Sunstar quietly urged while the clan below began their muttering once more. “You know what to do.”
xxxxxxx“They killed Mom!” She quivered beside Sunstar. “Why did you think I want to learn from a murderer?”
xxxxxxx“He’s a loyal warrior now,” He nudged her closer to Lightningflash who was uneasily shifting from foot to foot. “Touch his nose.” She accepted his nose touch, squeaked, and hurriedly rushed down the trunk. Ashpaw, Hollypaw, Featherpaw, and Oakpaw welcomed her into their little circle. Part of the orphan clique now? He internally sighed. The other warriors had heard whispers of what that group called themselves. But she still has me! He thought angrily.
xxxxxxx“Is it alright if I head down now?” Lightningflash’s unsure voice startled him.
xxxxxxx“Yes,” He said over the cheers of Tornadopaw! “I’m sure she’ll get over it.”
xxxxxxx“I’m not so sure about that.” Lightningflash said sheepishly. “But I don’t blame her or anyone else for their reluctance.”
xxxxxxx“Give them time.” Sunstar crouched ready to leap to the ground. “They’ll come around.”

xxxxxxxMoose guided Elk through the growing underbrush. “Just a bit farther.” He murmured when she let out soft cries of protest. Her belly was starting to grow with their kits, and she wanted to find a nice place to make their nest.
xxxxxxx“I smell other cats,” She looked around anxiously. “We mustn’t overstep any boundaries.”
xxxxxxx“The scents are rather frequent,” Moose pondered, “And lots of them. If there’s that many together, they must be somewhat friendly.” Elk wasn’t too sure about that idea but wasn’t eager to turn around and travel many more miles. Eventually, they found a small patrol of the resident cats and was brought back to a disheveled leader.
xxxxxxx“It’s like everything I’m doing is wrong,” The orange tabby was saying, “And Silverstem keeps yelling at me.”

xxxxxxx“Sunstar, leader of TwistedClan,” The orange tabby introduced. He noticed the queen’s belly. “I’m sure you want a safe place to deliver kits and we can offer it.”
xxxxxxxThe two mates looked at each other. “It’s up to you,” Moose said.
xxxxxxxElk looked around the camp closer. There were cats of all ages mingling around, seemingly in harmony. “I guess we’ll stay.”

xxxxxxxThe day Lightningflash was supposed to hold his first training session with Tornadopaw, Sunstar made a point to wake up early before the sun had fully blessed the sky. He crept into the apprentice den and gently shook Tornadopaw awake. “Come with me,” He whispered in her stirring ear. He led his sleepy daughter to the Burial Site up the ridge. The flowers were in full bloom and still fresh with morning dew.
xxxxxxx“I’m going to be tired for training,” She grumbled.
xxxxxxx“You’ll do fine, I promise.” Sunstar reassured. “I just wanted to talk to you about some recent things.”
xxxxxxx“I’m not sure I want to.” Tornadopaw looked at her paws.
xxxxxxxSunstar’s heart throbbed. “Okay, then can I talk and you just listen for a little bit?” When there wasn’t any protest, he continued. “I’m sorry I didn’t think about assigning you to Lightningflash like that. I was only thinking about how to show the rest of the clan the rogue members are trustworthy, and he is a very strong warrior. I think you will learn a lot from him. But,” He cut her off before she could protest again, “The main thing I wanted to tell you was about my leadership ceremony.”
xxxxxxx“I thought you weren’t supposed to say anything about that.” Tornadopaw sounded a bit more enthused now.
xxxxxxx“I’m won’t tell if you won’t.” He offered a smile to her that she thankfully returned. “Alright, well, Rainsong was there to give me a life. And…Sandkit was there as well.” Tornadopaw let out a little gasp. “He also gave a life and made sure to tell you that he loves and misses you.”
xxxxxxxTornadopaw’s eyes shown with tears. “I miss him a ton.” She pressed into Sunstar’s coat. “I really wish he was here training with me.”
xxxxxxx“I do too, bud.” Sunstar sighed and licked her head comfortingly. They sat pressed against each other and watched the sun finally fill the sky with its golden light. “I think you should get back before Lightningflash wonders where you are.” Sunstar eventually murmured.
xxxxxxx“I guess.” Tornadopaw sat up straight. “I can’t miss my first day of training.”

xxxxxxxPavilla consciously had to stop her fur from bristling as Sunstar drew near after Tornadopaw’s ceremony. She still was holding a tiny grudge against him after their confrontation last moon. However, she was pleased when he only seemed to want to talk about her kits, though her mood soured after he insinuated that her kits weren’t doing terribly great in their training. “Nitor had a hard time grasping the hunting crouch and Somni is still very unsteady. She’s going to have to retrain for her hunting skill this moon.”
xxxxxxx“I don’t know where you got that information but Darkmist had worked with them as kits and she said they did it perfectly!” Pavilla huffed.
xxxxxxxWell, I talked to their mentors,” Sunstar said slowly, “And I couldn’t see any reason for Squirreltuft to lie.”
xxxxxxx“Why would Darkmist lie either?” Pavilla turned her head in a haughty manner. “She even kept them from seeing Twistedstar die, so maybe Squirreltuft just isn’t very good at teaching.”
xxxxxxxSunstar took a step backwards with his eyes narrowed in thought. “Squirreltuft will stay her mentor for now. I will discuss this matter with Darkmist when I have a chance.”
xxxxxxx“You better figure this out.” Pavilla stood and turned snootily. “Good day.”

xxxxxxxSunstar took in a deep breath. His hollow trunk den still had faint scents of Twistedstar with a little bit of Ruststripe. Please show me how to be a good leader, he prayed, I swear I’m trying so hard. He flinched when a soft knocking sound startled him from his thoughts. A small scarred face poked into the den. “Yes, Frostpaw?”

xxxxxxx“Wh-what?” Sunstar sputtered. How far south?
xxxxxxx“To follow the ravens.”
xxxxxxxSunstar rolled his shoulders. “Okay,” He cracked his neck. “Can it wait a moon or so? We’re getting close to finding Twistedstar’s assassin, I feel.”

satinkit and nettlekit were five moons old, meaning that they were getting close to being made into apprentices. and since they were getting older, they were finally allowed to play outside the stone church that they called camp. they weren't allowed to wander very far, neither of them allowed anywhere without their mother and another adult watching them, nor were they allowed to leave the little clearing around the church and enter into the forests. nettlekit tended to stay close to the stone building that they called home, looking in all of the little nooks and crannies for spiders and bats, his favorite things to play with. however, his sister found herself wandering a bit farther, into the gravel that surrounded the tombstones of the buried two-legs. her olive colored eyes landed on a strange little fluttering creature that lay on top of one of the smallest tombstones; it was a butterfly whose wings were the most brilliant turquoise but were outlined in deep black. a purr rumbled deep within her little throat as she pounced at the blue morpho butterfly, but it fluttered away in just time, and so she chased after it, giggling to herself each time she tried and failed to catch the pretty insect. finally though it landed on a branch from an olive tree; any older or more perceptive cat would have taken note of this as odd, since there were no known olive trees in their territory, so the sole branch just lying on the ground was strange. the little kit wiggled her hindquarters as she prepared to pounce on the butterfly, but just as she got ready to leap, the branch before her, merely lying on the ground but touching nothing else, burst into flames, completely engulfing the butterfly in its fire. any normal cat would have let out a cry or jumped back at the sudden surprise of fire, but not her; satinkit was enamored by the fire before her, which remained only on the olive branch and did not spread to the grass or other bushes around it. she couldn’t say what overtook her but she raised a front paw and gently lay it inside the flames; her eyes were wide as she pulled it back out and stared at it; there was no pain or burns in her paw; it was like she was immune to the flames somehow. she began to reach forward a second time when a sharp yowl rang out from behind her, and all of a sudden she was torn from her paws and into the air. her pale green eyes looked up to meet the fire orange eyes of mambo magnolia, and she knew better than to try and argue her case with the mambo, so she merely went limp and hung there in defeat as the adult took her back to the church.

cottonstar did not normally go out to do patrols with his clan, but for some reason, he felt a need to be out of the church that day, and although he had already sent out both the hunting and the border patrols for the day, he decided he would take a walk himself, just to clear his mind. as he wandered, he allowed his feet to take him wherever they so pleased, not really having a specific plan in mind. he ended up along the clan's border with the nearby two-leg city, the very border that split his clan of celestial beings from the clan of cumulus' most hated enemy, his brother raggedstar and his clan of crossroads demons. as he lifted his head in the air, he could scent that his patrol had already come past this way, recognizing the scents of each of the cats he had assigned to check the clan borders that day. unusually for him, he wasn’t on high alert with his senses, feeling rather calm and at ease knowing his clan couldn’t be too far from him. however, even when lost in his thoughts, the tom was alert enough to hear a crunch of twigs nearby and quickly stopped, turning towards the sound. he sees a small white cat just in the other side of the border, rustling through plants like it was looking for something. however, as it’s blue eyes flashed up and met his own, a wave of emotions overcame cumulus as his mouth gaped in shock. he couldn’t help but quickly approach the smaller cat as a grin overtook his facial expression. “dove? my son! I thought you were dead. oh when I tell your mother she’s gonna be-” he didn’t get a chance to finish his statement before the smaller tom has leapt at him and he felt the claws and teeth dig into his skin, causing him to cry out in pain. “dove stop! What are you doing?! I’m your father cotton!” but the leader wouldn’t defend himself, he wouldn’t hurt his son, and so he merely tried to writhe and throw him off balance to get him off his back. however that proves to be the wrong move, for as the smaller tom fell at cottonstars front paws, as fast as a viper he was back up and had attached himself to the leaders throat and chest. cottonstar began to stumble as he felt blood filling his airway, his deep blue eyes filled with nothing but confusion as he fell to the ground. “why son...” he croaked out. the smaller tom looked ready to speak when a patrol of cats could be heard approaching at a rapid pace, calling out to their leader before they saw him lying on the ground. the crossroads demon held so much hatred and anger in his eyes as he spat out “I’ll be the one to finish you off someday. your first life was mine and so will be your last.” then the tom bolted back across the border and disappeared into his clans territory. leech and racka were the first cats at his side as his eyes rolled back into his head and he breathed his last, at least for now. oriole arrived a mere moment later, followed by juniper who let out a loud cry as she saw her brother lying there bloodied. “racka, oriole, carry him back to the church. take him to angelica; when his second life kicks in he should be with the rit ziens, just in case. cougar, leech; follow the tom that attacked him. I know he went into the crossroads demons territory so keep your heads down; I just want to be sure the cat was a demon and not a random passerby.” the Maine coon and the forest cat both nodded, and racka slipped the leaders form onto his back, jogging into the forest again with oriole at his side, ensuring cumulus did not fall off. the dilute calico molly and cream tom both nodded silently, determination in their eyes as they made eye contact before racing into enemy territory. the seraphim then looked at the last cat of the patrol, a grey and white bicolor; “knot you and I will finish the border patrol. we must be sure no one else has crossed into our territory that means harm.” the cinnamon point molly and the gray tom then jogged off in the direction they had originally come, both wearing grim expressions on their faces.

Stretching in his nest, Droserathorn opened his jaws in a wide yawn. His eyes slowly opened, adjusting to the dim light of his nest room. The tom’s ears picked up chatter from outside the stone walls. It grew closer, and he soon realized that the noise was coming in his direction. He groaned in annoyance at the thought of having visitors so early, but he still rose to his paws and worked out the stiffness in his hind leg. The shaman now identified one of the voices as Riversnap. A small smile flickered at the end of his mouth. He enjoyed seeing the she-cat around, but he didn’t know if she felt the same, so he made sure he gave her space. His assumption was right, as the she-cat entered the shaman’s den with two other she-cats trailing behind her. Riversnap seemed to be conversing with the brown cat, while the white one stayed rather silent, a consistent small smile her only sign of emotion. “Good morning,” Droserathorn sighed “How can I help you?” His question wasn’t sarcastic, just smothered in exhaustion. “This is Antlerpool and Snowdrift. We found them on the dawn patrol this morning. They’re looking for a home.” The tom nodded and blinked roughly, clearing his eyes of the sleep. “Neither of you are pregnant are you?” He asked monotone. “Droserathorn!” Riversnap huffed, flicking him with her tail then, turning to her companions, added “I’m so sorry. He forgets his manners sometimes.” Her mew was pointed, raising a bit of agitation in Droserathorn’s chest. He shoved it down. He had made a promise to himself that he wouldn’t be the instigator of any conflict anymore. “Sorry.” He meowed, heaving a deep sigh “I’m just tired. Our nursery already has two residents and I don’t have the supplies at the moment to take on another queen.” The brown cat, Antlerpool, gave a chuckle. “It’s alright, Droserathorn!” She meowed kindly “I know what it’s like to be sleep deprived.” The ginger tom flashed her a smile and stood up taller. “So, what is it you need from me? Are you feelin’ sick?” he asked, shaman skills kicking in. Antlerpool shook her head. “No.” She answered “But I figured you might want to check us just in case.” The shaman nodded. “Sure thing.” He meowed “What about you, Snowdrift? Are you feelin’ alright?” Snowdrift swallowed and looked to her friend. “She doesn’t talk.” Antlerpool explained “I think she’s mute.” Droserathorn tilted his head in interest. He had never met a mute cat before. The white she-cat shook her head, though, communicating that she felt fine.” Droserathorn sat and itched a spot behind his ear. “Okay, then. If you want, you can spend the day here while they build your nests. I can check you for ticks or anythin’ nasty like that, but I can tell you now, you look healthy.” He reported. The two she-cats looked at each other and shared a nod. “That would be great. Thank you, Droserathorn.” Antlerpool purred, dipping her head respectfully. He nodded back and got up, leading them into the nesting room.

⚜ ⚜ ⚜ ⚜

Antlerpool and Snowdrift were cleared for the Clan, and were now being shown around the territory. The camp was quiet, the perfect ambiance for Droserathorn to sort his herbs he had collected. That is, until a piercing cry shot through the air. The shaman grimaced, instantly recognizing the call of the crow. He slowly turned his head up, begrudgingly making eye contact with the crow, who was peeking through the hole in the roof. “Great.” he muttered “Okay, fine, gimme a moment.” The crow cawed and flapped away from his perch. Droserathorn sighed and closed his eyes for a moment before taking a deep breath and exiting into the camp. He slithered along the side of the building, staying in the shade and making his way over to the headstone the black bird was sitting gracefully on. But before he could follow the bird, a small tap on his rump made him whirl around in surprise and fear shoot up his spine. Wrenpetal was there, silently watching him. “Sorry for startling you,” She murmured sheepishly “But are you going out of camp?” Droserathorn’s heart was still racing from the scare, but he forced himself to remain cool. He flicked his ear and blinked at the queen. “Yes, I am. Did you need something?” His eyes skimmed across the queen, checking quickly for signs something could be wrong. She shuffled her feet. “W-Well, kinda.” She whispered “See, the kits are asleep. And everyone else is showing Antlerpool and Snowdrift around, or hunting, or patrolling, or whatever. But Marsh doesn’t have anything to do. I don’t think he should be cooped up in camp for this many moons. So, could you maybe take him out for a while? Have him stretch his legs.” The shaman inwardly cringed at the thought of having to drag the elder to the cave. Wrenpetal caught on to this, and gave him a sweet smile. “I’m sure it will be fine!” She purred “Besides, I know nothing bad will happen with you there, since you’re such a strong tom.” Droserathorn narrowed his eyes in doubt. He was definitely not a ‘strong tom’. He was lithe and tall, with little visible muscle. But he got the message and the gentle gleam in the queen’s eyes was hard to deny. So, with a groan, he begrudgingly accepted. He waited as Wrenpetal led Marsh over to him, and the two set off with the crow leading them.

Droserathorn wrinkled his nose, trying to block out the noise of Marsh’s story. They were almost to the cavern, but the entire journey had been filled with the elder’s tale of a skirmish with a fox. It wasn’t a bad story, in fact the shaman found it quite interesting. However, the thing that made him want to thwack Marsh with his tail, was the fact that he was retelling the story to the crow. “Then, I pounced on the beast’s back! It was crazy! It was howlin’ and barkin’ and tryin’ to throw me off. But I was able to cling on. I have long claws, ya see, which get tangled in fur whether I want ‘em to or not.” The bird gave an interested squak, obviously understanding and enjoying the entertainment. Droserathorn rolled his eyes. “Of course the two bird-brains would get along.” He muttered under his breath. Thankfully, they reached the mouth of the tunnel soon, and Marsh finished his story. The shaman stepped close to the entrance and looked at his companion. “Stay close to me, okay?” He ordered “Don’t wander off into any side tunnels. Hold on to my tail if you have to, but there’s no way I’m losing track of you.” Marsh smiled and nodded. “Sure thing, son. Lead the way!” Droserathorn closed his eyes for a heartbeat and sighed, turning to the tunnel and following the bird inside.

When the shaman opened his eyes, he was thankful to see he was alone in the starry forest. He didn’t think Marsh would have followed him, but it was good to know this conversation would be private. It wasn’t long before a familiar black pelt weaves through the towering tree trunks. “Greetings, Droserathorn.” The guardian meowed. “Aita.” He dipped his head respectfully “I assume you have a reason for this visit. I didn’t call Voire. Did I?” He flicked an ear at the crow, who was perched on a low branch above Aita. He shook his head. “No, no I sent her.” He confirmed “I’ve been sensing some stress in you, Droserathorn. You’ve been thinking about a lot of things, lots of questions. I figured you’d might want to ask me some, considering I’m an all-knowing deity and all.” The guardian flashed the cat a warm smile, but Droserathorn just blinked in confusion. “Questions?” He echoed “I’m not sure I understand. My minds been pretty clear these past few moons. Not much has been going on besides caring for the Clan’s health.” Aita tilted his head. “Not all thoughts are in your head, my friend.” He meowed “Sometimes our deepest questions lie in our hearts. For example, you know deep down that you won’t always be RavenClan’s shaman. One day you’ll join me here.” He waved his tail to gesture to the forest. Now that he mentioned it, Droserathorn realized he had been thinking about the distant future. He saw Cypresspaw and Spikepaw, as well as the two kits born. They were the future of the clan. “You want to know who will carry on your legacy.” Aita finished. The cat nodded slowly. “Well, I can answer that!” The black tom revealed “Not everyone can speak with me like we are, Droserathorn. You have a special gift. One that I gave you, yes, but one that not everyone is able to possess. This gift needs to be passed on, obviously, to the next shaman. I can’t help your Clan if I can’t communicate with you.” The shaman tilted his head. “How does it pass down? Is there a special ritual or something?” Aita smirked. “Not quite. It’s actually pretty simple.” He explained “The gift is like a gene. It’s passed on from generation to generation. That means that one of your kin will be your successor. One cat of your direct bloodline. It can be one of your kits, or the kit of your sibling. Either way, it’s a family thing. I sense strength in you, and I know your descendants will carry that same strength.” Droserathorn nodded. “That makes sense.” He murmured “But how will I know who it is?” Aita smirked widened. “You’ll know, don’t worry. There will be signs. Plus, it’ll be in their nature to want to become a shaman. I’ll be guiding them along from the moment they’re born.” The shaman flicked an ear, but noticed that his surroundings were starting to fade. “Has it been all night already?” The tom gasped. “Time works differently up here.” The guardian meowed nonchalantly. He started to turn, but stopped half way. “Oh, and Droserathorn, there was one more question that’s been radiating off of you. The question you’ve been thinking about non stop.” He added “And the answer is yes.” With that, he left the mortal cat, merging with the shadows and disappearing with the rest of the forest as Droserathorn woke up.

The ginger tom started as he woke, panting wide-eyed. He swung his head around, slowly realizing and remembering where he was. He sighed and swallowed, dipping his head and letting the calm trickle of water soothe him. “You alrigh’, son?” Marsh asked, walking up to him. He settled beside the tom, examining him with worried eyes. “I’m fine.” He grumbled. He wanted his limbs to get up, but he didn’t have the energy or will to do it. “No yer not.” Marsh sighed “You take care of everybody, but who takes care of you?” Droserathorn shot Marsh a look, but didn’t say anything. “I know you’re tired, son. You don’t have to pretend.” Marsh scooted closer to his companion “When was the last time you checked yourself for ticks? Well, obviously not recently. You look like you got spit out by a tornado.” The shaman huffed, and flinched away from him as the elder started paying through his fur. Eventually, though, he accepted his exhaustion and let Marsh work through his knotted pelt. “Hey, Marsh?” the shaman yawned, eyes closed. Marsh hummed in acknowledgement. “I’m sorry.” He sighed “I’m sorry for constantly snapping at you. I know I can be a bit rough, but you’ve been such a great friend to Wrenpetal and you’re great with the kits. You don’t deserve being scolded by a hot-headed bee-brain like me.” Even though his eyes were closed, he could feel Marsh smiling. “Don’t you worry about it Droserathorn. You’re definitely not the nastiest cat I’ve met. I know you don’t mean to be mean, and I forgive you.” Droserathorn leaned against the tom and his eyelids grew heavier. Over the past few moons with Lilith showing up, Raggedstar had noticed Dove beginning to question things more then before. Letting out an annoyed hiss the old scruffy tom gave a small shake of his head as he padded through the large warehouse towards the healer's room. He knew he would most likely find Lilith there as well, but he didn't worry to much about her. She had been easy to sway and manipulate, but Dove seemed to be a bit more headstrong then Raggedstar originally thought. The x tom padded into the healer's den, his eyes landing on the two cats before him. Clearing his throat, Raggedstar flicked his tail for Lilith to leave. The flame point she-cat gave one small nod and smile to her nephew before giving Raggedstar a nod as she excited the room. Once Raggedstar knew Lilith had made it down the hall a ways, he made his way close to Dove and sat down. "Dove. Have a seat." he meowed, gesturing with his tail for the small white tom to sit next to him. Dove let out a small sigh and padded over, sitting next to the large scruffy tom. "Yes, Raggedstar?" Dove asked, tilting his head a bit to the side. Quickly the room fell silent and the air felt uneasy, causing Dove's fur to stand up on end. Something unsettling seemed to be in the air. Finally Raggedstar cleared his throat, breaking the silence before he spoke. "It seems you have been doubting the Crossroads lately, questioning things. Need I remind you how these 'angels' so they call themselves, murder their hosts. Your mother and father being two victims of those 'angels'." Raggedstar stated, his voice cold and emotionless. Unaware of the actual truth, Dove believed every word Raggedstar told him, his blue eyes shinning with a fiery hatred. With a small nod, Dove rose to his paws."Yes. I understand. I won't let my faith waver again." Dove meowed. Raggedstar smiled and nod, rising to his paws as well. "Good. I'll leave you to get on with your gathering today then. Good day Dove." Raggedstar meowed, walking out with a smirk on his face.

Alone once more, Dove stood there letting Raggedstar's word sink in. With each passing moment, the young white tom felt rage bubbling up inside him. Letting out an hissed followed by an angry yowl, the white tom padded out of the room. Upon spotting her nephew done speaking with Raggedstar, Lilith padded over opening her mouth to say something, but was quickly cut off by Dove. "Not now!" Dove hissed, briskly walking past leaving his aunt standing there in shock. Unsure where he was really going, Dove found his paws taking him to the border between Crossroad Demons and Celestial Beings. With a heavy sigh, Dove closed his eyes taking a deep breath before beginning his search for useful herbs. Getting lost in his own little world, until something urged him to look up. Upon looking up his blue eyes locked with that of another cat, an angel. Frozen with a mix of emotions, Dove wasn't sure what to do. Until the other cat called out his name. “Dove? my son! I thought you were dead. Oh when I tell your mother she’s gonna be-” the other tom began to speak, unable to finish his statement as Dove launched himself over the border and onto the other cat sinking his claws and teeth into the tom's pelt. A cry of pain escaped the angel's, causing Dove to slightly smirk with satisfaction. “Dove stop! What are you doing?! I’m your father Cotton!” the tom cried out. As the tom thrashed about trying to shake Dove off, Dove could sense the other tom was holding back, unsure of why his enemy refused to fight back. Dove tumbled to the ground at his victim's front paws, but quickly sprung back into action like a viper, this time sinking his teeth and claws in the other tom's throat and chest. Stumbling backwards and to the ground, the tom's eyes clouded over with confusion as he watched his son step away smiling proudly at what he had done. “Why son...?” Cottonstar croaked out. Dove opened his mouth to speak only to pause when a loud rustling noise seemed to approach at a rabid pass. Dove quickly realized it must be a Celestial Beings' patrol coming to investigate the commotion that had went down moments ago. Dove let out a hiss, his eyes flashing with a burning rage as he glared back down at the bleeding tom before him. "I’ll be the one to finish you off someday. Your first life was mine and so will be your last." Dove spat, bolting back across the border heading straight back for camp. The white tom didn't look back, knowing they would most likely send a patrol after him for attacking their leader. Dove knew he needed to report to Raggedstar to prepare the clan for battle.
