Honeyear was thinking back on the badger attack yesterday. Rippednose had done his job well. It was a shame Spiderstar hadn't been on that patrol, but it was good enough to disturb the leader. It made him vulnerable. A smile playing on his lips, Honeyear turned to his apprentice, Lynxpaw. "Lynxpaw, now follow the scent of any kind of prey. I will be watching from a hidden position, and tell you what was good or not." the apprentice nodded energetically and immediately began looking for a scent. Honeyear moved into the bushes, but instead of staying to watch his apprentice, he walked off.

Honeyear walked quickly. He had to be fast enough to talk to Rippednose before his apprentice was aware he was missing. The deputy knew exactly where the rogue was, and it wasn't long before he caught the slight scent of blood. So he had gotten hurt? Shrugging, Honeyear kept walking. He didn't care much for Rippednose anyway. Getting closer to his hideout, Honeyear heard a rustling in the bushes. "Honeyear." a deep and raspy voice said. Honeyear turned around and saw Rippednose. "Rippednose."

The two cats had met a few moons ago by chance. Honeyear had just been wandering, and had stumbled upon a large Tom who immediately attacked him. He was stronger and was about to kill Honeyear when the latter asked why he did it. The tom had replied that any cat who was beat by him was too weak to live. Honeyear had instantly liked him, and had talked about his plans in Swallowclan. He had promised to make him deputy should he let him live and help. The tom had quickly agreed and introduced himself: Rippednose, thanks to the red stain on his nose.

"What are you doing here?" the rogue asked. Honeyear tilted his head. "Oh first, just to congratulate you on yesterday's attack. You weren't too hurt?" he asked, mock concern in his voice. Rippednose snarled. "Oh, don't play those games with me. I was hurt, but it's nothing bad." he replied. "Now, what do you want?" Honeyear sat down. "I want you to join the clan. Spiderstar sent out some cats to bring you herbs. Just ask if you can join." Rippednose did not say a word, just listened.

"Once you're there, please act as if you don't know me." Rippednose scoffed. "I do know how to do that sort of thing." Honeyear smiled, a cold, evil smile. "Perfect. Now I have to go back to my apprentice." and without another word, the lithe tom walked off back towards his Apprentice. Rippednose watched him walk off, a frown still on his face. Then, the frown disappeared and Rippednose tilted his head. Why was he feeling so attached to this cat?

Much later in the day, when most cats were coming back from training or patrolling, Freckleface hurried to the medicine den. All day, he had been feeling a sort of uneasiness since he had learned Moonshadow was giving birth. And finally he could go see her. Outside, he had heard that there was a new cat, but instead of going to see who it was he had rushed to the nursery.

Freckleface quietly entered the nursery. It was quiet, but not silent. He could hear voices whispering, and shuffling too. He could see that Barleystorm and Sycamorewhisker were talking together. Two small shapes were by the mother. He smiled. Everything seemed to be well.

True to herself, Moonshadow was at the very back of the nursery, only her green eyes visible in the gloom. Freckleface approached her slowly. "Moonshadow? Is everything alright?" he asked softly. He could make out one, no more, small shape by her. "Yes. Everything is fine." Moonshadow replied. She seemed tense as Freckleface got closer. "It's a tom. What do we call him?" she asked. The tone of her voice somehow told Freckleface he should not come any closer, so he stopped. "I don't know.." the kit was completely covered in black fur.

"He reminds me of a story I was told as a kit.. About a panther." Moonshadow smiled. "I remember that. Huge black cats. Fierce and graceful." Freckleface nodded his agreement. "Yes. How about Pantherkit?" he asked. Moonshadow nodded. "I like that very much." Freckleface smiled, and almost went up to nuzzle her. But as he came closer, the molly hissed softly. "Don't get too close." she warned. Freckleface took a step back in surprise. "Oh. Alright." he said, slightly surprised and hurt. Moonshadow close her eyes. "I need to be alone for a while." she said. Freckleface nodded silently and, his head down, padded out of the den. He knew it was just her mothers instinct, but still... It hurt.

After coming back from training her apprentice, Hopstripe had begun to wait for Rowangaze. It didn't take very long for him to return, and immediately after arriving he joined Hopstripe, and the two of them walked off towards the forest. Neither had gone to see who the new cats were. They wouldn't take too long, of course, as they knew Flintpaw would be coming back from her warrior assessment soon, and they wanted to see that.

"How are you doing?" Rowangaze asked as they walked. It had been mostly silent before. Hopstripe smiled. "I'm doing better now." she said, before realizing what she had just said. Rowangaze tilted his head. "Better now than what?" he wondered. Better now that Honeyear hasn't asked me to kill anyone in a while. the molly silently thought. "Well, since knowing you I've been feeling better." she smiled shyly. It was true, partly. Rowangaze smiled back.

Without his friends knowing, he was slowly guiding her towards a place he had prepared earlier today, thanks to Smokewhisker. The older tom very much knew what was happening and had agreed to letting Rowangaze off his duties for a while. They were getting closer, and while Rowangaze was casually keeping the conversation going, his heart was also speeding up. It was coming closer.

Rowangaze paused suddenly. "Can you please close your eyes now?" he asked. Hopstripe looked surprised, but she nodded. "Oh, sure." Rowangaze felt a warm glow in his heart when he noticed she hadn't even asked 'why'. Just done it, trusting him. "Now follow me. Don't worry, there's nothing in front of you. Yup, this way." he slowly led her towards a large willow tree. Rowangaze gently pushed the drooping branches when Hopstripe stood right in front of it, and said: "You can open your eyes now."

Hopstripe opened her eyes, and immediately drew in a breath of wonder. In front of her, an opening in the willow's drooping branches showed a dim interior. The ground was covered in soft, green grass, and on the higher branches and trunk of the tree, chains of multicolored flowers hung, giving the whole place a magical, idyllic look. Hopstripe slowly padded forward, craning her neck to look at everything around her.

"It's beautiful." she breathed, glancing back at Rowangaze. The tom smiled at her. "I hoped you would say that." he sat down in front of Hopstripe and looked her right in the eyes. "Hopstripe, I wanted to ask you.. If you wanted to be my mate." Hopstripe felt her eyes fill with tears- of happiness. "Yes. Yes, I do want to become your mate!" She exclaimed, and threw herself at him to cuddle.

A while later, as everyone was back in camp, Spiderstar, though still aching, climbed on the high rock. He looked better than before, but his walk to the moonpool had tired him out. "May all cats able to catch their own prey gather beneath this rock!" he called. Everyone was quick to come. "Now, I have a few important things to say. First of all, I would like Flintpaw to come forward now." the young apprentice stepped forward, feeling worried yet excited.

"You have successfully passed the warrior assessment, and thus are worthy of becoming one. In honor of your bubbly and open personality, I have decided that your warrior name would be Flintspark." he smiled at the apprentice, who smiled back broadly. "Well done, Flintspark." he said. And every cat began calling out her name. "Flintspark! Flintspark!"

The newly made warrior looked into the crowd and found the eyes of Ferretstrike, who was looking at her with a happy look in his eyes. Flintspark smiled back at him, feeling a warm glow in her chest. He seemed to be proud of her. Flintspark did not notice the glare coming from Iceflower.

As the cats began to calm down, Spiderstar spoke up again. "I also have the honor of welcoming two new cats to our clan. Fennecpaw, who I found while coming back from the moonpool, and Rippednose, a former loner who decided to join us. He was found by one of our patrols. Behind him, Fawnthroat frowned. That wasn't exactly the right story. But she didn't say anything. She would ask him about it later.

Meanwhile, the other members of the clan welcomed the two new cats. Fennecpaw was soon surrounded by the other apprentices, and Rippednose was being as nice and pleasant as he could. Not once he looked over to Honeyear.

~the next day~

Early morning, before most cats left their den, soft voices were arguing in the medicine den. "I will not allow you to do that. You barely just get better after losing a life and there you are again, wanting to go around and patrol already! I'm sorry Spiderstar, with all the respect I owe you, I cannot let you do it. My job is to keep everyone healthy, and that means I have to make some choices."

"But Fawnthroat, I am perfectly fine. The worst thing right now is the fact I cannot stay still anymore. I have to do something! A simple patrol won't hurt me." the leader sounded like a child asking his mother if he could go out that night. "I won't do anything dangerous." He promised.

Fawnthroat rolled her eyes. "Oh for Starcla-" she was cut off by the sound of running and someone calling her name outside. The young Stonekit entered the medicine den. "Barleystorm asked me to get you. Fuzzyheart is giving birth!" the small tom said. Fawnthroat nodded quickly. "Oh. She's so young." She whispered. "You go back and tell her I'm coming. Ashwhisper, wake up! Grab some kitting herbs, we have to help Fuzzyheart." she seemed to have completely forgotten about Spiderstar.

The leader watched Fawnthroat rush off, then noticed that some cats were coming out of their dens now. He was going on a patrol, whether Fawnthroat liked it or not. HE was the leader, and he knew he was well enough to do it. Confidently, Spiderstar stepped towards the center of camp and went to take something from the freshkill pile.

(Hopstripe and Rowangaze are now mates and try for kits!

“Now, hold-“ She screeched, “HOLD STILL!” She growled deeper, trying to get Quartzflicker to obey her commands.

“Wisteriasky it hurts! I can’t hold still!” He groaned in pain.

“You asked me to pull out your sliver because you couldn’t do it yourself! And you aren’t tough enough to hold still for one sliver in your paw?” She snapped at him, whacking her tail against the floor in anger.

A voice chuckled from across the room, “Alright Wisteriasky, cool your jets, here,” Mallowpool said, “Have him bite on this stick.”

Quartzflicker panted, “Thanks, I don’t know why I hate slivers so much!” He took it in his mouth and braced, his body clenching in readiness.

Wisteriasky started to count down “One, Two-“ then pulled hard. She laughed when he froze underneath her and let out a big screech.

“OW! WOMAN WHY’D YOU GO ON TWO!” His voice was muffled because the stick was still in his mouth as he yelled out.

Wisteriasky threw her head back in laughter, “Oh you think I’m going on three?” He spit out the stick and gave her a hard glare. She just shook her head. “Stop climbing tree’s Quartzflicker. Then you won’t get splinter’s.”

He rolled his eyes, "Yeah but pretty she-cats like you like squirrels, and I have to hunt in the tree's to get them and then I get splinters!"

Wisteriasky glanced at him out of the corner of her eye as she put the stick back, "Pretty she-cats like me? Those are some flirty words, Mister Quartzflicker. Better save that kind of sweet talk for, who did I see you sun bathing with? Orchidflight?"

He laughed, "Yeah, yeah, I will. She's pretty nice, huh?"

"Yeah," Wisteriasky smiled, "She is. Now, go find your she-cat and talk to her, not me!"

"May StarClan look down upon ShiningClan as we gain a new warrior of the Clan. Maplepaw has worked hard in her training, and I congratulate her on doing well and passing her final assessment. Maplepaw has earned her warrior name, and from this day forward she will be known as Maplecloud; StarClan praises her optimism and enthusiasm." Scorchstar stepped forward, touching noses with Maplecloud, who help herself very high. Her eyes were shining with her usual excitement, and she was almos trembling. Whether it was from her nerves, or from her uncontained excitement, Scorchstar wasn't sure, but it put a smile on his face nontheless.

Maplecloud stepped back after Scorchstar rested his muzzle on her head gently, mouthing a quiet thank you to her former mentor. She was happy that she could finally be considered on par with the adult cats, and she wouldn't have to hide the romance that had blossomed between her and Thornstrike. The tom had been sleeping with her in the apprentice den, though to avoid awkward questions, especially in terms of her father, he always came when the rest of the warriors were sleeping, and only when certain ones were on guard duty for the night. It had been a tough moon, seeing each other only in secret. It almost drove Maplecloud crazy. She really didn't think anyone in the Clan would have a problem with it, even if they would silently judge her, she could deal with that. It would be Pikewhisker that would cause an issue, already looking for any he could to get Thornstrike kicked out of the Clan.

She searched the small gathering of cats for Thornstrike now, seeing him glowing with pride and nodding happily as she stepped back from Scorchstar. She nodded back, feeling an immense amount of happiness. Even if Pikewhisker didn't agree... well, she couldn't say she wouldn't care, and it would definitely be hard for her father to find out, but she could make her own decisions now. Maybe one day, she and Thornstrike would have kits... she got lost in her thought, not really realizing as her father came up to her to congratulate her, being startled out of her thoughts by the soft touch of his tail on her shoulder.

"You've done very well," Pikewhisker murmured, giving Maplecloud a lick on the shoulder. "I'm proud of you." Maplecloud purred, rubbing her head into her father.

"Thank you, father. And I have something to tell you too, but I don't want you to freak out..." She beckoned over Thornstrike with a flick of her tail. It wouldn't get any easier, and she wanted to be able to show affection for Thornstrike. He had asked her to become his mate only a couple of sunrises ago, but it would be unbearable to not be able to be with him.

Pikewhisker's ears swiveled on his head, and he narrowed his eyes as Thornstrike came closer. The younger tom bowed his head, sitting down a small distance from Maplecloud. It was Maplecloud who didn't allow the silence to go on for long, not liking the tense way Pikewhisker was staring at Thornstrike. "Thornstrike and I... we're mates. I really love him, dad, and he really loves me. We're good for each other," she emphasized, watching Pikewhisker's reaction. His tail thrashed as she let him know, and she tensed for him to fight with Thornstrike. Instead, Pikewhisker let out a curt nod, turning immediately and stalking away.

"I'll be waiting by the entrance, when the rest of the hunting patrol gathers," he snapped over his shoulder, hunching over by the entrance. Maplecloud let out a sigh, glancing worriedly at Thornstrike.

"Well, I guess we should be careful. But at least it's out of the way," she murmured, gently pushing her head into Thornstrike's chest. "Let's get ready to go hunting..." she trailed off, taking the lead for Thornstrike so he could avoid Pikewhisker's deathly glare. Maplecloud just hoped that nothing would escalate between the two, but she had a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach...

Newleaf
Leafbare has come to a close and snow has begun to melt. Rain is more common which may lead to floods in water-based or low-lying territories. Prey is only just beginning to return although kittings will run smoother and the chances of queens or kits dying during birth will begin to drop. Loners, too, are beginning to explore clan territories which makes the odds of finding new cats higher than it otherwise would be.

during green-leaf, you will catch a max of six pieces of prey. during
patrols, you are more likely to run into two-legs and their dogs, and
rogue groups will most likely start to try to settle on your territory,
so keep an eye out. you are still likely to get floods, but there will be
more droughts towards the middle of green-leaf. the cats in your clan
can get dehydrated easier during green-leaf than they would in other
seasons. your clan will still receive new cats, but not as much as you
would in new-leaf.

Greenleaf- The sudden cool breeze quickly gives way to the blazing sun of Greenleaf. Just because it's the first day of the new season doesn't mean it's gonna go easy on you. The heat is making even the most active cats doze off and the rivers and lakes are already starting to shrink.
