"You know, I've seen the way Scale of Snow looks at you and Venomstar." Splashfeather purred as she settled next to Petalmist. "And isn't her job to watch over kits? Looks to me like she's ready to get to work." Petalmist let out a soft squeak and ducked her head. Splashfeather decided to continue "Why don't you volunteer to go on patrol with him? I mean, sure he's the leader, but you're also the only eligible she-cat in the camp. I should think you're allowed to spend some time with the toms."
Petalmist lifted her head with a curious look "I sleep in the warriors den surrounded by toms, what do you call that?"

Splashfeather snorted "Um sleeping?" Petalmist huffed and looked away. "Come on, none of you are injured, so all I can do is wander around the territory gathering herbs. Kits would be something interesting, for both me and Scale of Snow." Petalmist rolled her eyes "Well then, you go off and have some kits. I bet that would be interesting enough for you."
Splashfeather purred "Oh no, all the toms are far too old for me."

The two she-cats were silent for a while, then Splashfeather said "Well, if not Venomstar, then how about Goldenglare? He's closer to your age, though I don't really know that much about him." Petalmist sighed "If it will get you out of my fur, then fine. I'll start getting to know the others. But Venomstar?" her thick fur fluffed up slightly "No. I don't think he's ever looked at me, other than to give me my name or send me on patrol." It was Splashfeather's turn to sigh now. Turning her head towards the leader's den, the medicine cat decided to try and see if she'd have any better luck with Venomstar.

She wanted some kits to take care of for Starclan's sake, and the only possible she-cat in the clan was definitely not the seduction type.

Venomstar goes to the moonpool to request the Regent of Fierce (the male regent - a snake)
Petalmist and Goldenglare go on patrol
Splashfeather goes herb hunting
Paleskull stays behind to watch the camp

Weather - New-Leaf
Spring. Winter may have been mild this year, but spring
seems determined to compensate for that previous luck now.
A vicious storm rips right through the territories only a few
days after the leaves start to bud again, and the few flowers
that started to pop up seem to have retreated almost
entirely. With that storm came heavy rain, that's washing
away what little good soil remained unfrozen from the frost
and ice over the winter.
But, despite this turn for bad weather now, it's still a lot
better than winter. Prey is returning in abundance
(unfortunately accompanied by predators), and herbs are
returning in full variety to clan territories.

Some useful links regarding food pile creation that I might just leave here to give a greater chance of everyone seeing, at least for a while:

If you are using a fontmeme text header in your post, it's in site art rules for both chickensmoothie and fontmeme that you need to credit fontmeme for it in your post somewhere. Please don't get yourself warnings for easily avoidable things, especially when avoiding a warning requires less effort.
Please include a link to the power descriptions of any cats in your clan that have powers if you want them to be factored. I can't roll for powers if I can't find their powers. If you do not include a link to their powers I cannot guarantee that I will factor in those powers in your rolls. It's your responsibility to make sure I know what to use for rolls, and if you don't include the links to power descriptions, I can't be expected to know every power by heart.

The city was meant for three things; humans, their machines, and the thieving scums that dared to call themselves a cat.

Which was why, naturally, Djaevel hung behind the shadows of old buildings, keeping a relatively low profile as he wove his way through the streets. He would occasionally step into the luminous flickering lights of streetlamps when he saw a couple cats scrounging for trash, earning them to each effectively scatter away with eyes gleaming with a potent mixture of fear and shock. He was not one of these felines, he was no follower to the god of unruliness. These cats lived on the burning stench of car exhaust and half-devoured food. He, however, was a child of instinct, of untamed bloodlust and drive.

Besides, even if he was one of those city-loving blokes, he wouldnโ€™t be allowed here, far too many gangs eager to slit his throat. After all, he had murdered the leader of the Golden Claws, a band of scrappy young cats eager to spill blood.

And it wasnโ€™t as though Djaevel didnโ€™t enjoy a good fight, it was simply that he had things to do before he let them have the sastifaction to dare try and fight to feared demon of the night, The Specter, as many had called him. Better to let them know by word of those who had seen him that night that if they were near the eastern district they might have just caused the blood (which many rumours suggested was black in colour) of the infamous killer drip across stone. Or, more accurately, the blood of their own bodies spill, their eyes becoming hazy as they slowly died in violent agony with the menacing black coon towering above their writhering bodies.

Now though, it wasnโ€™t time to think of such happenings. The tom lifted his nose, making a effort to push past the sickening stench that was the city in attempt to catch the cinnamon-like scent of Larke, his most trusted ally and only confidant. He had urgent matters to discuss with the exotic she-cat, and he suspected this night would be his only time to speak with her before he ventured off into the mountains.

โ€œYou mustnโ€™t stay here, Djaevel, you are a enemy to all and a ally to none.โ€ A smooth voice warned from somewhere above the maine coon.

โ€œAlly to none except for you, spitfire,โ€ He said charmingly. Pausing, he turned around to see the slender silhouette of Larke, outlined by the milky rays of the crescent moon. โ€œOr has something changed that I am not aware of.โ€

โ€œYou know damn well I canโ€™t just walk these streets as a known ally of The Specter.โ€ She told him, dropping to the ground next to him silently. It was true, Djaevel knew that. Even before slaughtering the king of the large gang, his allies were few and far, but after his crimes against the city cats, any who stood with the specter were considered enemies.

Djaevel began to walk, with the limber molly at his side. โ€œThen donโ€™t. I am starting a empire of only the strongest, the vicious and lethal. For those who deserve more than to just sit around in a bastard city all day and live off of human scraps.โ€ His voice was sharp as he spoke, though his chest jutted out pridefully and his eyes reflected a burning hellfire within. He halted, facing Larke head on.
โ€œCome with me, Larke. Join the Sanguine Empire.โ€

"Stay away!" The little she-cat shrunk back against the tree trunk, pelt fluffed up and deep eyes brimming with fear. Stonepatch and Burrcall glanced at each other, before the latter took a step forward. The young cat hissed, and swiped at the warrior, making her backpedal fast and turn to Lionheart with a helpless look. The ginger molly shrugged, and nodded her head toward the camp. "You should be getting back. It's late."
"But Lionheart-" Stonepatch began to protest, but the look on her face told him otherwise. He dipped his head, respectfully, and then nudged Burrcall's shoulder with his own. The pair of them turned, and padded away into the underbrush, the she-cat turning back to glance at Lionheart in worry, before bounding after the patched tom. Lionheart stayed alone in the clearing, watching the bicolour cat tremble. She hissed at her, claws unsheathed.
"You should go too, or I'll- I'll-"
"You haven't eaten in moons," Lionheart mewed, matter-of-factly. The cat cast her gaze toward the ground, angrily. "I'm not going to hurt you, you know," she said, settling down onto the forest floor, and stretching out, "but the foxes will. And the badgers. And the birds of prey." The she-cat drew herself up, angling her chin upwards. "So what, I can take them. I'm a survivor. They can't hurt me." Lionheart chuckled a little, shaking her head.
"I like you, you remind me of me when I was your age," she tilted her head, with a warm smile, "my name is Lionheart. What's yours?" The she-cat glowered at her, and then lowered her head, tucking her chin against her chest in embarrassment. "I don't... have one," she mumbled, "my mother didn't give me one." She looked upward again, her jaw quivering as she held back tears. Lionheart's heart broke for her, just a little, but she got the feeling sympathy wouldn't sit as well with the youngster as it might have with any other cat.
"Well," she mewed, pretending to be thinking about it, "I know you're a really tough cat and all, but it can be hard surviving on your own. Of course, you have all the skills for it, so there's not much we can offer you aside from a name, a family, and good food in your belly, even in tough times. Clan life isn't for everyone, but it's a good place to settle down." The little she-cat sniffed a little, watching Lionheart curiously. She took in the sight of the molly: tall and muscular, with a sleek and healthy pelt.
"Okay," she said, quietly, feeling the anger drain from her body as she relaxed, taking a step forward toward the older she-cat, "but if you try to hurt me, I'll rip your ears off." Lionheart let out a chuckle, pushing herself to her feet. "On StarClan's honour. I wouldn't stand a chance against you in a fight, but luckily I get the feeling we'll get along just fine."

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

"You could try looking like spending time with us isn't a prison sentence, you know," Roseclaw looked up, sheepish, at Maplefall's teasing. The two she-cats were laying close together, where they had been sharing tongues. Goldleaf had sent Roseclaw to the nursery for a day to 'keep an eye on them', which he knew was Goldleaf talk for 'so they can make sure that you don't disobey my medical instructions and make your injury worse'.
"Sorry," he mewed, ducking his head, "I just... don't like being idle. Pinefeather did always say I would make a horrible elder, and it's a little scary to think that this might be my reality soon." Maplefall laughed a little, and Fawnrunner shook her head. "Don't be dramatic, you're not that old yet, Roseclaw," the bi-colour tabby said, "come on, come sit with us. Maplefall and I were just sharing tales about our youth, and since you are so old, you must have some good ones."
"Oh, I suppose," he chuckled, shifting closer to them, and dropping down next to Maplefall. He thought for a while, before he snorted a little, shaking his head. "I don't suppose Lionheart has ever told you any of the stories from her youth, of which I was witness to many. She sprained her paw like this once too, you know, and over something a lot less trivial."
"What did she do?" Maplefall asked, leaning closer conspiratorially. Roseclaw cleared his throat. "We had a brother, Gingerstrike, second born in Lionheart's litter. And they were at each other's throats, constantly. Dawnleap mostly stayed out of it, let Russetwing and I mediate, but one time, they decided to see who was the better sprinter, and so they decided to sprint across the moors. Only it was early Leaf-fall and the rains had started, so the ground was super boggy. Anyway, long story short she put her foot in a rabbit burrow and went tumbling down a hill into a mud puddle. She came up looking like a swamp-cat."
Maplefall and Fawnrunner burst into laughter, before Fawnrunner managed to collect herself. "You think that's bad? One time, as apprentices, Junipernose and I snuck out of camp to meet these kittypets on the border, and they took us for what they called a 'night on the town' where we basically went running through the two-leg place, except it turned out those cats were part of a city-gang and they ran across one of their rivals, so we had to run away, and poor Junipernose slipped on a- a yellow peel thing-" she hiccuped with laughter, "and somehow she slid at just the right angle through some kind of drain into a human dirt-place."
Roseclaw, Maplefall and Fawnrunner were all in hysterics, as Goldleaf's head peeked into the nursery. She gave the three of them quizzical looks, as they struggled to contain themselves. Maplefall cocked her head, blinking innocently at the medicine cat, who simply shook her head and grumbled something about them being stir crazy, before they resumed their howling laughter. It died down a little, and Maplefall blinked, looking between them.
"Do you miss your family?" She asked, tilting her head a little. Roseclaw nodded. "Every day. I mourn for my brothers, and my sister, and my parents, and my kits. I used to mourn for Lionheart, too, and finding her again was the best thing that ever happened to me. I can't imagine how hard it is for you, Fawnrunner."
"It is hard," she admitted, "but I see so much of her in Dawnpaw and Duskpaw every day, and I know she would want me to be happy. It's... hard, knowing none of you ever met her, but she looked a little like you, Maplefall, and she had this cute little pink nose that twitched when she laughed. I miss her, she was my best friend, but I'm glad that I get to be here to see her kits grow up, and I know she's in StarClan and she's happy to know where I ended up."
"That's really sweet," Maplefall mewed, touching her nose to her friend's cheek. Roseclaw purred his agreement, and Fawnrunner smiled at the both of them, before tilting her had at Maplefall. "You know, I don't think you've ever really told us much about your family, Maplefall. Or, at least, I haven't heard the rumor mill talking about it all that much, just that you used to be a loner and now you're here, same as Badgerstar."
"Yeah, I used to live out back of a two-leg farm. My parents were always fighting and they didn't take very good care of me or my siblings, so we all kind of grew up pretty quickly, but... yeah. Eventually the two-legs started using the two-leg place I was living in again, so I left and just... started wandering, and eventually my paws took me here. I don't know where my parents are now, or my siblings but... we weren't close. You guys are my family." Fawnrunner sniffed a little, leaning in to nuzzle her friend.
"For what it's worth, I'll always consider you my sister," she said, and Roseclaw hummed his assent. "I offer myself up as a pseudo-father figure, if you ever need it, which I think makes Lionheart your cool aunt." Maplefall burst out into her tinkling laughter, leaning into Fawnrunner and purring as Roseclaw leaned into her. "You're both too sweet, but I didn't get a chance to share my funny childhood story."
"By all means, go ahead," Roseclaw said with a laugh. Maplefall cleared her throat pointedly, preening a little in a way that made Fawnrunner shoulder-check her affectionately. "Okay, so once, there was a travelling band of cats that told stories about StarClan that came past the place where I was living, and so they stayed with me for a while, and there was this one she-cat who was really, really pretty, and anyway, it was super obvious that this other she-cat liked her, but they were both... so oblivious. So, I made friends with this tom who really wanted them to get together, and we spent two whole moons trying to push them together while they recuperated and worked on new 'interpretative storytelling methods'. Anyway, that's who Lionheart and Ashenstrike remind me of."
Again, the three of them burst into laughter, the merry sound echoing around the den, and into the afternoon air.

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

"Splashing doesn't mean you swim faster," Ashenstrike grunted as another wave of water splashed over his head, drenching his already soggy pelt so that his long fur hung off of his body like soaked rags. Sedgepaw, to her credit, just gave him a smug smile and purred. "I know," she said, and then she splashed him again. Before he could exact his revenge, she bounded forward and pushed further into the lake, demonstrating an elegant paddle.
"Okay, okay, showoff, I've learned my lesson: you know how to swim." Ashenstrike laughed, wading back toward the shore a little until he was comfortably up to his chest, at which point he turned his face upward toward the sun. He heard Sedgepaw splashing up next to him, that teasing lilt in her voice; "what are you doing? Sunbathing is more effective on the rocks, you know."
"Uh-huh," he said, "but you're not supposed to know that." He cracked one eye open, to smile at Sedgepaw's bewildered expression. "Don't look so worried, I'm not going to snitch on you for sneaking out of camp. I know you're used to more independence. I would just like to stress, as your mentor, that a clan is a team. A family. It's bigger than just one cat. You kind of have to think about how things affect everyone else but you now." Sedgepaw nodded, ducking her head shyly. "I know. Sometimes it just gets to be a lot. I went from not having anyone but myself to having a dad and a brother and a weird and wacky uncle-" Ashenstrike snorted- "in less than a moon. It's... overwhelming sometimes. I mean it's good, Dad is great and Halfpaw is really sweet, but..."
"I get it," Ashenstrike said, with a nod, "it's kind of weird, not knowing your family your whole life and then being expected to act like you're a family. If that's hard for you, it's easier to start small. Make one friend and work your way up." Sedgepaw shrugged, glancing at him awkwardly. "Well. We're friends, right?" Ashenstrike let out a short, rumbling laugh, nodding his head. "Yeah, we are, but you should get some friends your own age, kit." This time, he stepped out of the way of Sedgepaw's splash, sticking his tongue out at her.
"But, really. You ever need anything, you can talk to me." Sedgepaw gave him a smile. "Thanks, Ashenstrike. I think you're a lot smarter than you give yourself credit for, for the record. You kind of always know what to say." The grey tabby nodded a little, before he swept a wave of water at his apprentice, leaving her sputtering. "Yeah, and I'm much better at water fights than you give me credit for, too."

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

The sun was setting against the horizon, turning some areas of Badgerstar's pelt a chocolate brown. The clan had gathered around the leader's tree, standing huddled close together to fight against the biting Newleaf breeze. Lionheart leaned into Ashenstrike a little, glancing at the nervous little she-cat on her other side. She had already given her recommendation to Badgerstar, but the most pressing issue was the returned apprentices, about to be warriors. She leaned across to Duskpaw, whispering;
"I'm so proud of you." He gave her a massive beam, before sitting upright excitedly as Badgerstar began to speak. "Today is a proud day for our clan," he began, "because the first kits we ever had in the clan are all grown up." The clan let out a chorus of over-exaggerated 'aws', which made Dawnpaw and Duskpaw roll their eyes. "I remember when you two were just loud-mouthed balls of adorable trouble, and we're lucky to have Novella with us to keep them in line. So, without further ado. I, Badgerstar, leader of Groveclan call on our warrior ancestors to look down on these apprentices. They have trained hard to understand and abide by your code, and I recommend them to you whole-heartedly, in their individual turns. Novella, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to protect your clan, even at the cost of your life?" The she-cat gave a proud, determined nod, as the twins jostled her shoulders excitedly. "Then you are a warrior of GroveClan. You will still be called Novella, to connect you to your past, and as a reminder that everything you have gone through has only made you a stronger, better warrior. StarClan honours your determination, your kindness and and your bravery. It is my honour to welcome you as a full warrior of GroveClan." He stepped forward, resting his muzzle on top of her head. She licked his shoulder, and the clan yowled her new name as Badgerstar stepped back.
"Duskpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and defend your clan, even with the cost of your life?" The grey-tabby tom nodded emphatically, "I do!" Badgerstar grinned at him. "Then from this day forward, you will be known as Dusklight, for your bright personality. StarClan honours your optimism, your loyalty and your compassion for all cats. GroveClan is a better, happier place with your kind spirit to help guide us. It is my honour to name you as a full warrior of this clan." The clan cried out for Dusklight too, as he repeated the same motion with Badgerstar. He retreated back to Lionheart, who touched noses with him, her chest welling with pride.
"And last, but certainly not least, Dawnpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect your clan, even if it costs you your life?" The ginger molly nodded, firmly; "I would like nothing better." Badgerstar let out a light laugh, and continued; "then you will be known as Dawnblossom, for your youthfulness and enthusiasm. StarClan honours your kindness, your honesty and your deep emotional connection to this clan. You deserve to be welcome as a full warrior to this clan." A final yowl went up of the new warrior's name as she and Badgerstar exchanged the ritual gesture. Fawnrunner crowded around her niece and nephew, purring happily while Shadowtail, Lionheart and Flowershine paid their respective congratulations to their apprentices.
Badgerstar gave them a few moments to collect themselves, before he cleared his throat. "We have one more ceremony," his eyes lighted on the new she-cat, and he felt his heart go out to her. Nemo, just like me, he thought, before he motioned her forward. "I know you have been alone and without a name, and I have lived like that too. So, it is my honour to tell you that from this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Adderpaw. Your mentor will be Acornstream, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that she will teach you everything she knows," Adderpaw looked bewildered as an excited Acornstream was nudged forward by her mate and his sister, both of them looking proud. "Acornstream, you have shown yourself to be diligent, compassionate and an exceedingly excellent hunter. I know you will pass down your knowledge to Adderpaw. Welcome to the clan." A yowl went up for Adderpaw's new name, and the little she-cat looked bashful and proud as Acornstream touched noses with her. Badgerstar finally bounded into the fray to pay his congratulations, as the clan chattered excitedly.
"I really am proud of you, Dusklight," Lionheart was saying, "even if you are going to have a tough time with a silent vigil." He laughed, nuzzling his forehead against his former mentor's. "Thank you for everything, Lionheart. I'm really looking forward to getting to work alongside you as an equal, and not as your annoying little apprentice." She grinned, shaking her head at him. "You were only annoying sometimes."
"So you're not going to be my mentor?" Adderpaw asked, looking up at Lionheart with her big eyes. Lionheart shook her head. "I've had enough apprentices in the past several moons, the rest of the clan is going to think I'm hoarding them all. Besides, I suggested Acornstream for you, I think she'll be good to you. See, she has kits of her own." Adderpaw followed Lionheart's gaze, watching Hawkthorn, Squirrelpaw and Woodpaw gather around her mentor. Lionheart nudged her forward. "You should go talk to them," she suggested, "it's always good to make a friend."

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

The moon had risen by the time the the excitement had died down. So as not to disturb the silent vigil the three newest warriors were sitting, Lionheart had exited the camp and was resting on the sun rocks near the lake, although they didn't harbour so much of their usual warmth now that the sun had gone down. At the sound of pawsteps, her ear swiveled, and she turned to see Ashenstrike padding toward her. Nimbly, he leapt up the rocks.
"A little birdy told me you liiiiiike me," he sing-songed, settling down next to her, their pelts pressed together. She snorted. "Well, I know for a fact it was either a rock or a tangle in your fur, if you're saying it like that. And don't let your ego get too big because of it, because I know you like me too." Ashenstrike chuckled, nodding a little as he leaned across to groom her fur. She settled into it, leaning companionably against his flank.
"It was the latter, I know you're wondering," he said, and she nodded as if that made perfect sense, "feels weird for you, huh? I bet you don't know what to do without a little cat idolizing you and following you around." Lionheart laughed a little, shaking her head a bit. "I was hoping I'd finally get some peace and quiet, but there's another kind of kit who is following me around." She gave him a pointed look, and he laughed, shaking his head. "You are so mean to me. And I love it. But uh, Adderpaw, huh?"
"Yeah," she laughed, "I lied, when I said she reminded me of me. She does, but she reminds me more of him. I thought it would be... a nice homage to him, wherever he is. I hope he's okay, and at least he's got kits that he gets to watch grow up now, which is more than I could have ever done for him. And I got a family- my family- and a really great set of apprentices who are like kits to me, and a tom that I could maybe see myself with for a long time, so I think things worked out for the best."
"Not gonna let you just gloss over that," Ashenstrike said, but he didn't make a move to comment on it. "Anyway. Life is good. My mother always said that Newleaf was always the best for perspective. Leafbare always comes first and then Newleaf is the hindsight that makes you think about what you have and decide what you value the most. A lot of the time I used to think she was a little full of it, but you know, now that I'm older I feel like she might have been on to something there."
"Your mother sounds smart," Ashenstrike said, "I can see where you get it from. But I'm curious- the muscles seem to be genetic, is that a mom thing or a dad thing?" Lionheart shrugged, with a light-hearted laugh. "A both thing, really. Believe it or not, I look more like my mother, but the long, silky fur? That's all Dad." Ashenstrike chuckled, letting her rest her chin on his paws. He nestled his chin against the top of her head with a slow blink.
"So... you could see us together for a while, huh?" She was quiet for a bit, before she hummed. "I think so. You're a good cat. You made some mistakes, but everyone does. I don't think I'm fully over it yet, but... well. I know that I like you. And I know that if you'd asked me before this whole mess I probably would have said yes to spending forever with you."
"And yes to kits?"
"I thought Ashenstrike of GroveClan didn't ask invasive questions about kits?" She teased. Ashenstrike shrugged, again. "He's branching out and trying new things. You don't have to answer if you don't want to." She shook her head. "I was thinking of having Goldleaf check me over, actually. The old medicine cat in my clan said I'll probably have kitting complications no matter what but... I trust her. And I think if she could keep me safe, maybe I'd be willing. As long as they survived too, I don't want to lose any more kits. Not again."
"I understand. I think you're brave for even considering it. I know if it'd happened to me I'd never think twice about going through it again. That would be it for me." She shot him a grin, and then nodded. "Thank you, Ashenstrike. It's funny, you always seem to know just what to say. I don't know how you do it." Ashenstrike thought back to what Sedgepaw had said earlier, something to almost the same effect.
"You know, I think I just have that gift."

๐•ฅ๐• ๐••๐•’๐•ช,
"Okay, so, would you rather have four prehensile tails instead of legs, or an extra leg instead of a tail?" Novella gave Mousepaw a quizzical look, shaking her head in amusement, but regardless, she flicked her tail in the same direction twice. Mousepaw looked surprised. "Really? What would you do with an extra leg?" Novella shrugged, and then waved her tail around a little bit. "I see your point, I guess four prehensile tails wouldn't be so structurally sounds... and no claws." Novella nodded sagely, before Mousepaw exclaimed.
"Oh, we need some of that. If you see any cobwebs, you should collect those. They're good for bleeding and general wounds. Goldleaf said we're good on the kitting herbs and the greencough herbs for a bit." Novella tilted her head, blinking at her friend. Mousepaw blinked back, before lighting up. "Oh! No, Goldleaf wants me to sit in on Maplefall's birth instead. She said it's more beneficial for me to be keeping stocks up while Newleaf is in full swing so that we don't run short in the colder months." Novella shuddered and wrinkled her nose.
"It won't be so bad, I think the concept of bringing new life into the world is beautiful," Mousepaw protested, and Novella gave her a look that said 'oh, really'. "Okay, smarty, do you remember anything from when your mother had you? No. I've already seen another queen give birth, when my mother was still in the nursery, so, I think I'll be fine." Novella tilted her head again, ear flicking, and Mousepaw shrugged. "I don't know where she is now, or if she's even alive. Sometimes I think she'd be proud of me, and then I realize I don't care. She always treated me like I was going to die the next day anyway, so. All I care about is Harrierstreak and Goldleaf being proud of me."
Novella nodded again, and glanced at her flank. Mousepaw gave her a soft smile. "I bet your brother would be proud of you. You'll get to tell him next gathering that you're a warrior now, huh? I bet that'll give your old mentor a heart attack. He said you were too weak to do it, but he doesn't know anything, because you're the coolest warrior I know. Don't tell Dusklight I said that or he'll get sad, and I can't deal with him looking like a kitten who didn't get invited to play mossball."
Novella's tail waved in amusement, and Mousepaw chuckled at her own joke, settling some herbs onto one of the leaves she was using for collection, and bundling it up. "Do you miss it? Not being in the same clan as your brother?" Novella nodded, solemnly, before smiling at Mousepaw and nudging her shoulder with her own. "I'd hope you're happier here, because otherwise you wouldn't have met me, and that would have been a tragedy." She was quiet for a moment, before she said: "is it weird to say I think we were made to meet in one universe or another and in any way possible? You just seem like someone I was supposed to find." Novella gave her a smile, and shook her head. Mousepaw nodded, contemplatively.
"No, I didn't think it was."

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

"I was wrong, this is the dream team," Dusklight announced, bouncing along happily at the head of the border patrol, "me, Lionheart, Roseclaw and Pinefeather- the dynamic duo, partners in justice and also in life- and Flintburr, the universal dad. Together, we kick furry butt and we take names." Lionheart and Flintburr exchanged a look, shaking their heads a little in amusement at him.
"Someone's excited to have some freedom," Flintburr mewed, tilting his head. "Yuh-huh," Dusklight announced, "I sure am. And I'm excited for Halfpaw to join us as a warrior. You've gotta be excited for him too, right? Your son finally gets to be a warrior." Flintburr chuckled a little, nodding. "Excited, and feeling like my gut is going to drop out from underneath me. I shouldn't be nervous for him, I know he knows what he needs to know, but still. It's odd to have my kits back in my life."
"I'm really happy for you, my dear," Pinefeather put in, weaving between the two stocky toms flanking him, "the joy of parenthood... Roseclaw and I miss our kits, but now we've got Lionheart again so I suppose that's almost the same thing." The ginger molly let out an incredulous laugh, shaking her head. "The way I remember it, I had to mother you sometimes, Pinefeather. I'd watch how you run that mouth." The burmese tom chuckled, stepping closer to his mate again.
"Well, I agree with Dusklight," Roseclaw announced, "it is nice to be out again. And for what it's worth, Flintburr, I'm sure Halfpaw is going to smash his apprentice ceremony." The two older toms shared a look, before Dusklight pricked his ears, staring past the dead tree and to the charred forest beyond. He sniffed a little, and then turned his attention to the rest of the party. "The scent here has been getting stronger the past few moons," he mewed, and Lionheart nodded, face creased with worry. "What is it?" Flintburr asked her, gently touching her shoulder with his own.
"A new clan is settling there," she remarked, "I scented it on some big toms at the gathering. They don't seem very friendly." The patrol looked out over the territory next to them, before Dusklight said, very quietly, "it kind of smells like Novella." The group shared uneasy glances, before Lionheart shook her head a little. "What should we do?" Pinefeather asked, turning his stunning green gaze toward her. "For now? Nothing. But keep a close eye on this border, and if you see cats on the other side... don't engage. GroveClan doesn't need any trouble, and that's all those cats smell like to me."
"We should keep moving," Roseclaw said, and the rest of the patrol agreed, beginning to move around the rest of the border, to the forests at the north. As they began to duck into the underbrush again, Dusklight spared a glance back at the lone tree, before he shook his head, and bounded after his companions.

โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

"Well, I definitely think you should listen to Badgerstar's advice on that one," Acornstream mewed, as their apprentices followed Badgerstar and Ashenstrike's stalking demonstration, "he might be a little bit naive, but he's right about the clan being fully informed of the situation. If you want Shadowtail to feel comfortable, you'll want to talk things through privately. Plus, she's a huge romantic, but that doesn't mean she'll need a huge gesture. She wants something that appeals to her personally, you know?"
"I know. I was thinking if she had a favourite flower, then I could find somewhere with lots of those, and we could go for a moonlit walk, and just... talk, you know? I wouldn't want to risk taking kill from the fresh kill pile, or burying anything in case something else digs it up. I thought that was a relatively safe bet."
"That sounds sweet, Dustfang, she'll love it." Acornstream let out a pleased little sigh. "Oh, I'm so happy for you two. It's about time Shadowtail found a decent tom." Dustfang chuckled, ducking his head bashfully at the inadvertent praise. Badgerstar and Ashenstrike were saying something to the apprentices, that made them laugh, before with a nod he sent them back toward their mentors. Adderpaw trotted toward Acornstream, settling next to her.
"Ashenstrike and Badgerstar want to play a game," Adderpaw announced, "but I think that Sedgepaw and Ashenstrike will have an advantage because Sedgepaw is big." She wrinkled her nose a little, and Acornstream chuckled. "That's because Sedgepaw joined the clan a little late, so she had to go through her training later than everyone else. But what's the game?" Adderpaw opened her mouth to speak, before Badgerstar cleared his throat.
"We're going to play a game I learned in the city," he declared, "called traitor. Everyone is a traitor in this game, and you will all have a target. Dustfang will run the game. He will whisper which cat is your target, and then you will all split off. To 'kill' your target, you have to sneak up on them using the skills you just learned. There's no fighting, so if they see you or hear you coming, or there are witnesses, you can't 'kill' them. When you manage to pin them without them spotting you first, they are dead and they will tell you their target, and you move on to trying to 'kill' them. If you kill the cat targeting you, you win. If you have the most kills at the end of the game, you win. Once you are out, come back to Dustfang, so we can know who the winner is. Clear?"
"Yeah!" Adderpaw enthused. "I'm going to win."
"No way, I'm going to smoke all of you!" Woodpaw replied, and Adderpaw stuck her tongue out at her, which made her laugh. Squirrelpaw snorted. "If you two carry on that way, you'll let your targets know where you are right away." Adderpaw squinted at him. "I hope I get you, just so I can prove you wrong." Squirrelpaw gave her an amused, wry smile in return. "Well, now I'll expect you to be coming."
"Okay!" Badgerstar said, intervening quickly, "it's time to play!"

Re: Create A Clan- V.4

Postby cloudy days » Sun Oct 07, 2018 9:24 pm

โ‹† CosmoClan โ‹†
Cats: 102
Next SunJaw visit: 9th September

Warmth was the first thing to touch Lyrastar's fur. Blue were the skies of the StarColony, free from the rain lingering on CosmoClan's territory and the icy breezes that the clouds brought with them. It had been a while since the leader had visited her ancestors through dreaming, but she did not stop to wonder why she was there when the rich scents of prey brought her to her paws, and the cheerful yowls of CosmoClan's ancestors made a purr come to her throat in pleasure. Despite the warm weather in the StarColony her whiskers could not feel any signs of harsher winds, and Lyrastar relaxed, her ears twitching as she heard a voice she had not heard in moons."Lyrastar!" Blossomfur called from a tree branch just above the leader's head, a squirrel in the calico's jaws. "Blossomfur, I'm so glad to see you," the pale ginger and white she-cat meowed, curiously looking around the forest to see if any more of her cats were there. Joaquin's ears were visible over a patch of nettles he was steering Tawnyheart, Cedarsun and a third she-kit with brown and white fur - another one of CosmoClan's relatives, Lyrastar assumed - past as they ran up to see the leader. Blossomfur's eyes glowed in recognition, but she kept her attention focused on Lyrastar. "What do you want to tell me? Is there an omen I should know of?" Lyrastar demanded, surrounded by five serious faces. "A storm of water is coming, bringing out the loyalties of every cat. Claws hold the clan together until the tide of truth." the words came out softly, but the rough edge to Blossomfur's words left her shivering as a vision of her clan being lost to the wind and rain threatened her thoughts. The StarColony began feel cold, and her whiskers quivered as she sensed a storm on the horizon. Just before she fell into deeper sleep the cats of her clan looked up. Dark clouds brewed above, clouds of warning.

Lyrastar opened her eyes with a jolt, fur prickling with the weight of the clan pressing down on her. Leaving the den, the leader looked around her camp and a sigh escaped her as she saw the puddles stretching across the camp. "Hello!" Solarspark bounced in front of Lyrastar, and the leader ungracefully wobbled along her branch in surprise. "What is it, Solarspark?" she asked, flattening her fur and looking around cautiously for trouble. Only the warriors milling around and being sent on patrols or hovering around the nursery came to her attention. Featherfall's already helped Emberblaze with sending all the warriors out on patrols, no cat has a cold and Blacknose is fine, and Softstep has had her kits! The puddles are drying up also, so there's no need to get your tail in a twist," the ginger she-cat meowed, her eyes glinting playfully as she wandered around camp. "Okay Solarspark, whatever you say," Lyrastar purred, jumping down to greet her clan. Emberblaze was waiting for her below, his whiskers twitching with amusement as he watched Solarspark startling his daughter Flamewing. Even though the she-cat had a position of responsibility it didn't stop her from being cheerful, unlike so many cats who were automatically weighed down by their duties. With a jolt Lyrastar realised she couldn't bare to lose any of the cats in her clan, but if the prophecy really pointed towards a storm them they could lose more of her clan.

"Should I send Solarspark on a patrol? She keeps telling me and Lionscorch how much she wants to go hunting," the Lunar Guardian asked her, just loud enough for the Solar Guardian to hear if she wasn't too busy trying to amuse the apprentices by following Lionscorch. "She can go hunting later, I just need to speak to both of you. Amberowl," Lyrastar began to address the she-cat, who was sharing a robin with Badgerstrike, "Can you get Featherfall for me? I need to talk to her about something." Amberowl raised herself to her paws. "Of course Lyrastar," the tortoiseshell agreed, going to the nursery to fetch Solarspark's apprentice.

"What do you want to talk to us about? Have you had a dream? Did you see Blossomfur?" Emberblaze's eyes shone, glancing over to Flamewing as he spoke. He still missed Blossomfur every day, and his daughters shared his grief. "Well, yes - I'll tell you what I need to say as soon as Featherfall appears. All Guardians need to be present to hear these words from the stars,"

In the corner of the leader's eye she spotted Amberowl and gave her a brisk nod.Featherfall turned up moments behind the tortoiseshell, her whiskers twitching as she navigated towards them. "What's all the secrecy about, Lyrastar?" Solarspark questioned eagerly. "Yes, what are we meeting for? I've left Speckledleaf looking after my kits and I don't want to be gone for long," the younger Solar Guardian asked hurriedly. Emberblaze flicked his gaze towards Lyrastar expectantly, his stare followed by Solarspark. "I had a dream," Lyrastar explained gravely. "and the clan will be in danger if we can't find what it means."

Postby Chamrosh » Mon Oct 08, 2018 12:26 am

Gustclan
Number of Cats: 78 (9 of which are kits)
|40F|36M|2NB|
Food Consumption: 13
Visit to Moonpool: It's been a week since the last visit

KimiTeasel-leafโ€™s paws flew over the leaf-litter, and behind him he could hear the dead, dry leaves scuffing and flying high up into the air.
NoZAhead of him, he could see squirrels jumping along their branches, scurrying away from him as quick as they could. Despite the distance between him and the tree branches, the squirrels were clearly not keen to have him pass beneath them.
enZeHis movement was accompanied by the regular interruptions of wings starting to flap ahead of him. At one point, he heard a magpie call. His stride could not increase, with him already going at full pace.
nZenHe could feel his breath coming in short, sharp bursts, burning his lungs for more air as he kept going, and his limbs were starting to burn with the effort too, but he knew the stakes.
seKHe couldnโ€™t help thinking that there were so many other cats far more suited than him for this sprint. He was not a warrior. He was not trained for physical endurance in the way so much of the clan was.
araBTeasel-leaf had to force himself to keep running, as exhaustion fought to make his stride slower and shorter.
okuWHe could see the trunk of that tree sticking out of the ground, itโ€™s roots reaching up in a fruitless attempt to reach Starclan. With the air passing through his lungs so quickly he didnโ€™t have time to scent before he got here. He leaped up the side of the log, scrabbling with his paws and pulling his weight up and above the top of the wood, his back legs struggling for purchase for a moment. His legs came up behind, and his chest heaved as he paused for the first time in what felt like hours. His head whipped around, eyes flitting desperately, and a scent hit his nose. Teasel-leaf snapped his head around, bent his legs, wiggled his tail, and, scrunching up his face in concern about this jump going badly, launched off the tree, straight into a run in a second.
aKimโ€œHarrierpelt!โ€
iWoTeasel-leafโ€™s voice sounded choked and breathy, but, even more than that, panicked.
SagaHis ears twitched as he heard something ahead of him from the same direction as the smell.
shiHAhead of him, he could see brightness from above, a shadow flitting to show a bird, but otherwise as clear a sky as could be expected during winter. The wind ahead of him told another tale. It smelt of the soil down by the lake shore, where his paws would enter a snowy white and leave stained and bright. And a familiar scent too.
ajimHis path was blocked by small shrubs and bushes, clearly growing up at the edge of the patch of light, seizing their chance at the sun. A little more cautious now - knowing full well what that smell was, and feeling the panic from that knowledge in his chest building - Teasel-leaf pushed his nose up to one plant, so his eyes shone through. He didnโ€™t have the willpower to stop himself.
etaYOne moment he was hidden in the bushes.
oSonThe next, he was beside a thick grey pelt, licking grey fur to try to get the deep blue out of it, only revealing more coming out from underneath.
oSaw He felt muscle shifting under his tongue, but not in the right way, and he felt the rippling in the chest over to his right pass through his tongue with the accompanying groan.
agasโ€œTeasel-leaf.โ€ Harrierpeltโ€™s voice was quiet, but it had not lost itโ€™s bite.
hiiKoโ€œDonโ€™t talk, youโ€™ll just make the blood come faster.โ€
eToNHarrierpelt shook his head slightly, but Teasel-leaf took no heed, eyes darting around the clearing to see if there was anything he could use to help. The grass was blue now too, where it had seeped from the older catโ€™s side. He couldnโ€™t spot anything. Instead he winced, looking at Harrierpeltโ€™s face, and pushed into his mentorโ€™s side with all his might, laying his lower forelegs flat against the wound, creating as much pressure as he could. The wound didnโ€™t smell quite right, not quite like only cat, but Teasel-leaf knew that already. No cat would create this wound.
amidโ€œOkay, I donโ€™t think any of the plants here are going to work, so youโ€™re going to have to hold with me long enough for me to spot something.โ€
aWoโ€œTeasel-leaf, no.โ€
Megaโ€œDo you know if any of the plants here could help? Iโ€™m not spotting anything that could help with bleeding. Why did you have to go and meet a badger in winter.โ€
keYaHe could feel uneven breathing, almost like laughing, and then coughing and a long moan from pain. Teasel-leaf met his mentorโ€™s eyes for the first time, brown eyes gazing down at amber.
tteKiโ€œYouโ€™re a good medicine cat, Teasel-leaf.โ€ Harrierpeltโ€™s voice was quieting further. โ€œIโ€™m proud. Myrtleclaw would be proud. Your mother is proud. Starclanโ€™s blessed you.โ€
tandTeasel-leaf shook his head.
aYoโ€œDonโ€™t talk like that.โ€
Sonโ€œLike what?โ€ Harrierpelt asked.
naKโ€œLike youโ€™re not coming back to camp. The blood will stop, weโ€™ll get you back to camp, and you can keep being a medicine cat for moons and moons.โ€
akumโ€œAnd how are you planning to get me back to camp, Teasel-leaf? Even if you could stop the blood, youโ€™re not going to be able to keep that wound closed long enough.โ€ Harrierpelt reached out one paw limply, as though to push Teasel-leaf away. โ€œShe might even still be near. Gustclan needs to still have a medicine cat, and your apprentice will need a mentor.โ€
eiZeTeasel-leaf shook his head. If heโ€™d wanted to notice, heโ€™d have noticed the pauses getting longer, the blue running up his forelegs, the heavy breaths Harrierpelt was letting out. But he didnโ€™t want to notice. He refused to. Harrierpelt would get better, and Harrierpelt would come back to camp.
nyaNโ€œStop talking nonsense. Youโ€™ll recover just fine, youโ€™ll be okay. Youโ€™ve got to think positive.โ€
oBokHarrierpelt chuckled weakly. โ€œI need a little more than positive thinking, so- Teasel-leaf. You donโ€™t need your p- mentor with you now. Youโ€™ve got your own life ahead and you donโ€™t need me for that. Have your own apprentice, your own mate and kits, and enjoy what Starclanโ€™s let you have.โ€
uraWโ€œ...Medicine cats canโ€™t have mates.โ€ Teasel-leaf said, stumped, meaning to have said something reassuring instead for a moment.
oDarโ€œAsk your friend on that.โ€ Harrierpelt sighed. โ€œIs there anything you need quickly now? You can always tell me anything.โ€ Teasel-leaf knew what he meant. He heard the resignation in Harrierpeltโ€™s voice now. Because anything else that Harrierpelt heard now wouldnโ€™t be getting back to the clan except through him or Heronstar; or so he thought. Teasel-leaf wouldnโ€™t let it be so! Although a growing, niggling part of his brain couldnโ€™t help but point out how it wasnโ€™t just the grass covered now, but long fur, all the way up his forelegs, across his stomach and his back paws, which would take hours to wash off all of fully.
eGaTโ€œI need you back in camp.โ€ Teasel-leaf asserted. Harrierpelt shook his head. Teasel-leaf pressed down harder onto his mentorโ€™s side. โ€œThereโ€™s one thing. Well, two. Chubtail told me about a vision he had a while ago, and I have no idea when itโ€™s going to happen, but I know itโ€™s going to be something big and something awful, but I donโ€™t know what. Iโ€™d love more guidance on what to do with that.โ€ There was a rumbling grunt of agreement through his paws, and Teasel-leaf took that as consent for what he needed. Explaining the vision seemed redundant right now. If Harrierpelt pulled through (and he would!) then he could explain properly back in camp. If he didnโ€™t, then Harrierpelt would know it anyway before long. โ€œAnd, besides that, I had a vision myself not long ago tooโ€ฆโ€
omeTeasel-leaf didnโ€™t spot when the little assurances stopped. He didnโ€™t notice when the breath stilled, and he kept talking until he was done.
ruToBut he knew, with one look at his mentorโ€™s eyes, glazed over and cold, but still looking right at him, concern etched onto his features, what had passed. Teasel-leaf let go of his grip on the older catโ€™s stomach, looking properly for just a moment at the ragged, torn wound, and found his gaze passing over it immediately. He turned to Harrierpeltโ€™s head, ran one cheek along his mentorโ€™s and then gently licked his shoulder, just as an apprentice is greeted by their mentor, but, more importantly, just as friends greet each other.
Iuโ€™nDGently, he pushed Harrierpeltโ€™s eyelids closed, and, not wanting to accept what heโ€™d witnessed, he started collecting small leaves off of the nearby plants that still had them, wishing to cover the smell of the wound.
arouDone with that, Teasel-leaf curled up close against his mentor, back against him, collecting as much of the scent of his fur into his nostrils as he could, not wanting to risk forgetting it as the moons passed on. It felt like hours before he was ready to move - and it probably was - and the wetness had dried off his face. He wouldnโ€™t be able to take Harrierpelt back to camp on his own.
xxxxAnd anyway, he could smell that scent again - the one that had been on Harrierpeltโ€™s wound as heโ€™d arrived. Teasel-leaf didnโ€™t need a warrior with him to put together what that scent must be from. Heโ€™d come out here to warn against it.
xxxxFor now, he needed to prioritise informing Heronstar. He couldnโ€™t afford to leave camp on his own for a while, not until he had an apprentice most of the way to being trained - Gustclan couldnโ€™t afford to have no medicine cats. Thereโ€™d have to be a warrior patrol scent out later - maybe even in a few daysโ€™ if it took the planning - both to take Harrierpelt to his bodyโ€™s resting place, and to deal with that badger.
Image

xxxxThe apprentices could see Teasel-leaf coming from the inside area of the camp, covered in something dark and purple, and, from what they could smell, each of them was sure of what it was. He looked resigned and weary, and was carrying himself heavily. Each apprentice moved out of the way as he trotted past them, and over to the patches of flowers on one side of the courtyard.
xxxxTheir eyes stayed fixed on him, focused intently, not wanting to miss any signs of what had happened to cover Teasel-leaf in so much blood. All except two, anyway. Gannetpaw was definitely looking more at the plants that Teasel-leaf was inspecting.
xxxxLlosgi Llyn was more intrigued by their mentors approaching. As he saw Noctulepath, Gannetpawโ€™s mentor, and her unimpressed look as she approached Gannetpaw and saw his distraction, he took a few steps forwards towards her.
xxxxShe looked at him a little untrustingly - clearly word about his fatherโ€™s deceit had spread around the clan fully, just as Llosgi Llyn had thought. At least enough of the apprentices were his siblings that he wasnโ€™t a social outcast; though he doubted heโ€™d care all too much, even if he were.
xxxxโ€œYou owe Ospreystorm a bird skull.โ€ Llosgi Llyn said, entirely matter-of-fact-ly, and trotted off, heading straight towards his father.
xxxxNoctulepath gave Llosgi Llyn a confused look for a moment, before turning her attention back to her apprentice.
xxxxA few moments later, the other half of the apprentices headed out for the day for their training. Sending everyone out at once was foolish; theyโ€™d not have nearly enough warriors to defend the camp with the scant few who werenโ€™t assigned patrols on a given day if the apprentices werenโ€™t there too.
Image

xxxxMerlindash hissed as he heard the news, and the warriors sat beneath the wall where Heronstar made announcements.
xxxxFirepath shivered slightly, leaning away from his mate, and looking intently at him to see if he was okay.
xxxxโ€œBadgers.โ€ Merlindash spat. โ€œIโ€™m going to avenge him.โ€
xxxxFirepathโ€™s ears twitched. He could definitely sympathise with that but one cat? No way was that safe. He was about to open his mouth to argue back in whispers, but Merlindash spoke again first.
xxxxโ€œYou wouldnโ€™t want Peonykit to grow up without his fathers, right? If anyone else were killed by that badger, that could easily have meant an orphaned kit, or a litter losing their dad. And in a few moonsโ€™ time, that badger could have killed Peonykit instead. Iโ€™m going to bring anyone who wants to come, and weโ€™re going to show badgers what they deserve.โ€
xxxxThe fierce tone in Merlindashโ€™s voice startled Firepath a little, but he could see why now. Merlindash was just wanting to be a good father (or Firepath at least thought so much) and if fierceness defended Peonykit, then fierceness was good.
xxxxโ€œAlright.โ€ Firepath said. โ€œOn a few conditions. We check with Chubtail, and we bring a group along with us.โ€
Image

xxxxBoulderdash refused to leave the warriorsโ€™ den.
xxxxShe wouldnโ€™t move to get food, she wouldnโ€™t stretch out her legs, and she barely talked to anyone. In fact, she only ever seemed to move for the sakes of her bladder, and then she curled right back in her spot again.
xxxxChubtail tried once to get her to go on patrol, and the only acknowledgement he received was a single flick of his tail. He had left.
xxxxNone of the clan blamed her. She had grown far closer to her best friend after her mate had died. It was no surprise she was so devastated now that he had passed away too. Especially considering the hardships sheโ€™d had to suffer lately.
xxxxThe only positive that could really be said was that her many children all seemed to have banded together to bring her food, to comfort her, to try to get her to exerciseโ€ฆ Admittedly some were avoiding each other. That seemed inevitable between at least two of them.
Image

xxxxThe body was taken up onto the top of Adoniscloudโ€™s hill, to the very highest spot. Burying was a lot of effort to only put the body further away from Starclan, where he belonged. Carrying was also a lot of effort, but at least the warriors who joined in knew that they were taking him closer to where he should be. Boulderdash had finally been persuaded to move once the occasion had been explained to her.
xxxxWalking back from the hill, Teasel-leaf turned to Gannetpaw, who was straggling behind the other apprentices who had come because he kept becoming distracted to look at the plants around him and to rub off their scent on his fur.
xxxxโ€œYou really do love plants, donโ€™t you?โ€ Gannetpaw jumped, literally, out of the shrub heโ€™d managed to inch himself into. He looked at Teasel-leaf (it couldnโ€™t really be said to be up; apprentices were nearly fully grown physically when they started training as it was, and Gannetpaw had gone through most of his training already. Gannetpaw and Gullpaw had each inherited enough of their fatherโ€™s size that neither ever really had to look up to any warrior but Narwhal and their father.), ears flicking nervously. โ€œA little too much to waste your efforts on being a warrior all your life.โ€
xxxxGannetpawโ€™s expression perked up, his tail twitching in anticipation.
xxxxโ€œYou mean it?โ€
xxxxโ€œNah, I didnโ€™t notice youโ€™ve loved plants more than your actual training, and that youโ€™ve loved plants since you first arrived. And, nah, I didnโ€™t notice you asking Heronstar if you were an option for being the next medicine cat apprentice last moon. And I didnโ€™t notice you being interested in me looking for funerary herbs at all.โ€
xxxxโ€œOh.โ€[color] Gannetpaw frowned.
[color=transparent]xxxx
Teasel-leaf snorted in amusement, the first hint of humour heโ€™d shown since Harrierpeltโ€™s death. โ€œIf you wanted to take that up, Iโ€™d be very happy to take you as an apprentice.โ€
xxxxGannetpaw practically bounced on the spot. Or as close to that as could be managed while continuing to walk forward with the rest of the group, even if they were near the back.
xxxxโ€œYes! Iโ€™ll go ask Noctulepath and Heronstar!โ€ Gannetpaw pushed one paw down to halt his progress down the slope, taking one long stride towards Harrierpelt, and rubbing his cheek against the medicine catโ€™s shoulder.
xxxxTeasel-leaf smiled after the apprentice for a moment as he bound forwards, heading towards the cats in question.
xxxxAnd then he remembered what heโ€™d seen, and where they were leaving and that smile was gone.
Image

xxxxDovepaw was the one who felt the pull from Starclan.
xxxxTheyโ€™d been wondering for so long.
xxxxBut the pull was too strong to stop.
xxxxShe could feel how close she and her mother now were to their destination. It felt like something pulling on her heart, leading her in the right direction, and every night when she dreamed, she dreamed of stars, she saw the movement of the shadows of tall trees and the movement of the stars, dancing around each other, and each seeming to point her in the direction she needed to go in.
xxxxIf the pull werenโ€™t so strong, if they had time for something other than travel as they moved on and on in their journey, perhaps Dovepaw might have had more training.
xxxxAs it stood, she had the training that a nine-moon apprentice should have, and she was by far old enough to be a warrior. Wherever they were being called to, Dovepaw had better be able to get a mentor again to train her up again.
Image

xxxxGannetpaw was beaming at Noctulepath as he lead the way into the leaderโ€™s den.
xxxxHe wasnโ€™t happy about Harrierpelt passing, of course, heโ€™d have far preferred he could become a medicine cat apprentice under happier circumstances.
xxxxNoctulepath would have preferred afterwards that he werenโ€™t so happy at all.
xxxxOf course she was happy for him - sheโ€™d grown close to her apprentice over the last few moons - but she was sad to no longer be his mentor. She couldnโ€™t help but regret that it wasnโ€™t someone elseโ€™s apprentice that wanted so much to be a medicine cat, who had been distracted the whole of the last moon with seeking attention for skills he did not yet even have. She didnโ€™t want to have her status as a mentor stripped so quickly.
xxxxBut she was happy for him too.
xxxxShe smiled with him, she told him he was going to be amazing as a medicine cat - because he really was going to be amazing as a medicine cat, not just because it was the sort of thing that you were meant to say - she nuzzled him, and she felt pride in her chest, even as it hurt to give her status up.
xxxxAs Gannetpaw left to exude his joy to his new mentor, Noctulepath delayed for a moment to talk to Heronstar.
xxxxโ€œCan I take another apprentice again soon? I really am happy for him but-โ€
xxxxโ€œI understand entirely, Noctulepath. Some apprentices bring great joy to their mentors. Some do not.โ€ Heronstarโ€™s tone made it clear exactly what apprentice she was talking about. โ€œBut I know youโ€™d be able to make a strong warrior out of any apprentice. Youโ€™re going to be among my top considerations for our next set of apprentices, anyway. You donโ€™t have to ask that.โ€
xxxxNoctulepath nodded once, flicked her tail gently in gratitude, and then left the leaderโ€™s den, seeking to join her siblings.
Image

xxxxHeronstar had a talk with Boulderdash a few days after the โ€œburialโ€. None of the others overheard it. Because the only two others concerned were invited in, too.
xxxxAnd also because everyone knew from whom was invited what that talk would be about.
xxxxBoulderdash was a grandmother now. Sheโ€™d lost her mate and her best friend. She was well past her peak.
xxxxAnd Argusheart and Bugleclaw had agreed to retire alongside her when the time came.
xxxxTheyโ€™d still be able to do duties as they wanted, but the clan knew Heronstar had given them all permission to retire, and everyone could guess that that would be very soon.
xxxxAnd really, as some of the clanโ€™s very first warriors, they had earned their retirements by now.
Image

xxxxThe patrol didnโ€™t dally around. They knew exactly where they were going, and they knew exactly what they were doing. Teasel-leaf had told them precisely where they had to go. They knew any of them might be injured, and so theyโ€™d decided to only bring along fully trained warriors, and to bring those who were young enough that they could all easily be expected to recover from any injuries they might attain.
xxxxThey reached the clearing while the sun was still falling, and each of the six spread out around it looking for the scent of the badger. Merlindash, Firepath, Squirrelclaw, Zinniapelt, Ringflower, and Dipperfish split evenly. Merlindash was leading the patrol, and when he had announced the idea, four of Boulderdashโ€™s children instantly volunteered to join the proceeding pair. Chubtail had said that if another patrol was going to be needed, that one cat had to be designated to run to find another patrol; normal clan procedures were continuing but eliminating a threat to their future took precedence if help should be needed. Zinniapelt had volunteered for this particular role.
xxxxRingflower was the first to call out about the scent, and the others quickly crowded around him. Each one scented it in turn, but it was Merlindash who burst through the bushes.
xxxxIn that moment, the rage from him made him seem to fit Fire- better than Firepath himself with his bright pelt.
xxxxMerlindash was running after the scents far before the others had followed just through the bushes, and the five of them had to sprint to catch up with him.
xxxxThe scent was weak, but it was becoming stronger and stronger as they moved, far faster than it would if it were a single track; clearly the badger frequented this route.
xxxxโ€œSlow down!โ€ Squirrelclaw eventually demanded, her voice strained and breathy from having to run for so long. In shock, Merlindash stopped, and Firepath slammed into him. Fortunately, theyโ€™d been running along a flat; their combined momentum just made them fall over, rather than down a slope. โ€œWeโ€™ve got close now, havenโ€™t we?โ€
xxxxThe cats came together and started quietly conferring, and yes, they all agreed; they were close, and continuing to sprint would ruin their advantage of surprise once they found the badger.
xxxxThey continued to walk, quietly now, and coming closer and closer to the sound of the road to the south of their territory.
xxxxThe smell was almost overpowering by the time that they emerged into another, far smaller, clearing, where there was a small bank, fixed with a large hole, and to one side of the hole, several bones, strewn about in disarray among the grass and detritus of the forest floor. They looked a lot like fox bones, and they looked small compared to the size of the mouth of the hole, and the spread of extra newly exposed dirt around that.
xxxxThe cats each shivered, and not from the biting cold and wind.
xxxxBadgers were a terror even among predators.
xxxxIt was the habit of a badger to not only steal the hole of another animal for itโ€™s home - too lazy was she to build her own home - but to kill its occupant, if there was one still, and desecrate their corpse as such.
xxxxBadgers did not normally attack cats, but they were more than capable of killing them should they seek to do so; as proven by Harrierpelt.
xxxxDipperfish bent down to inspect the hole more fully. She could smell badger-scent from inside. It smelt a little weaker than a full badger, but close to it. Which was likely no wonder, if that was where the badger slept. But she was sure the badger was not there.
xxxxShe turned her head to look at the group, her eyes moving swiftly past them.
xxxxShe had sprung into action before the others so much as whipped their heads to see what she was staring at.
xxxxThe badger had plenty of time to move out of the way as Dipperfish sprinted forward, but instead, it flicked its long snout, and she careened off to the side.
xxxxIt had come from among the bushes, from a similar angle to them.
xxxxPerhaps it had been following their scent even as they had been following its.
xxxxIt was destined to be a short fight. Six against oneโ€ฆ either they acted fast and overwhelmed it, or they would grow exhausted evading it. Now was not a time for evasive manouevres. They wanted it gone from their territory or any of their future kits might be in danger in turn. Far better risk the injuries now - and avenge their father, even unwittingly - than lose later.
xxxxThe six cats each flew back at the badger, and though the badger kept trying to defend itself, each of them refused to be curbed by fear or intimidation. At one point, the badger aimed its jaws towards Merlindashโ€™s throat, and Firepath lunged forward, knocking the teeth out of the way with his own chest. Though blood spilled from deep cuts, he refused to be curtailed, and continued as best he could.
xxxxZinniapelt was flung backwards into a tree as the badger gripped her body with its teeth, and all of the cats heard the sickening pop that came from her. She did not return to the fight, and at the rare glances each cat got to check up on her, it looked like she could barely get herself upright, let alone fight.
xxxxEach of them received bats to all parts of their bodies. Squirrelclaw receiving a nasty knick to one ear as she was rolled backwards and away, and a twig caught on the delicate skin there. As the badger grew distracted running around Ringflower, blood escaping its sides as it turned, Merlindash quickly leapt away, scrambled up the bank, and sprang off, aiming straight to the badgerโ€™s back. It reacted just barely in time to turn upwards, to aim itโ€™s face at Merlindash -
xxxx - And they both executed what they were planning.
xxxxThe badgerโ€™s teeth dug into Merlindashโ€™s chest, and Merlindashโ€™s claws caught in something soft in the badgerโ€™s face. As he moved forwards, his claws dug deeper, and just a moment later, he landed heavily on the badgerโ€™s back.
xxxxHe dug his claws in as hard as he could, as the badger thrashed in pain and panic at what Merlindash had just done.
xxxxBut he didnโ€™t care. He dug his claws in so hard it felt like they were going to pop out, and when he fell off, he rolled, landing alongside the others.
xxxxThe badger was not so much black and white anymore.
xxxxAnd thanks to his daring move, it didnโ€™t see as he nipped in to one side, and his teeth closed around one section of its neck.
xxxxWithin another second, the fight was over. The badger collapsed, injured head pointing towards the mouth of the hole it had been heading towards.
xxxxZinniapelt started directing those with injuries - bar herself - on what to do with what was around them, until they could get to Teasel-leaf.
xxxxโ€œIโ€™ve dislocated my leg. Iโ€™m not going to be able to walk on my own back to camp, and I canโ€™t get it into place myself. Iโ€™m going to need two of you to support me as we return. Ringflower, Dipperfish?โ€ She asked, her head clearly turning to address each of them in turn. โ€œ...Dipperfish?โ€
xxxxโ€œWe killed a mother.โ€ She responded. โ€œThatโ€™s why Teasel-leaf said it was female. She killed Harrierpelt because she thought her kits were in danger.โ€
xxxxThere was a silence.
xxxxโ€œOne dead badger family is far better than the loss of a generationโ€™s kits if our apprentices met her.โ€
xxxxDipperfish sighed and nodded.
xxxxShe walked over to her sister, and helped her upright. The three littermates stood together, the two uninjured supporting Zinniapelt as they started back.
xxxxAlthough they were both injured, Firepath and Merlindash could each manage to walk, if slowly. Merlindash had to keep pausing for the pain in his stomach. He would not have much more strength than that needed to get to camp before heโ€™d need to be seen by Teasel-leaf.
xxxxSquirrelclaw led the way, occasionally pausing to inspect her right ear, where the tip was now missing entirely by feeling it with one paw.
xxxxโ€œWhy were you so desperate for this, Merlindash?โ€ Firepath asked from the back of the party.
xxxxMerlindash sighed, in equal parts proud and content. โ€œI wanted revenge. I killed a badger. Itโ€™s not the same one, but it doesnโ€™t matter. I still avenged him.โ€
xxxxFirepath didnโ€™t ask whom he was avenging. No warrior left a clan without someone who they missed deeply. And besides; Merlindash was far too proud of the heritage his father had left him for it to be anyone else.
Image

xxxxTeasel-leaf tended to the others first. Squirrelclaw would be okay within a few days as long as she didnโ€™t strain herself too badly. Merlindash and Firepath would each need some time where they were allowed off normal duties, but, silently, Teasel-leaf felt they deserved that already for their bravery to take on a badger they knew had killed before, and to lead the attempt to protect their next generation.
xxxxLast was Zinniapelt.
xxxxTeasel-leaf took one look at the wound, how unnaturally his sisterโ€™s hindleg bent away from the rest of her body.
xxxxShe deserved it, he couldnโ€™t help thinking. She deserved that.
xxxxBut Gannetpaw was watching him.
xxxxHeโ€™d never done this before, not on his own. Heโ€™d seen Harrierpeltโ€™s demonstration, but heโ€™d never even seen it done properly before. Theyโ€™d not had a dislocation in the clan before.
xxxxBut if he didnโ€™t do this, if he didnโ€™t treat her -
xxxx - heโ€™d be exactly as bad as she was.
xxxxTeasel-leaf gritted his teeth.
xxxxHe knew what he was facilitating by helping her.
xxxxFate was for her to retire now.
xxxxBut he couldnโ€™t do that to his own sister, much as he feared what was to come.
xxxxHe bent down, braced her against the hard surface at the back of the medicine den.
xxxxโ€œThis is going to hurt.โ€ He said, with far more aggression than that line truly needed.
xxxxThe cry of pain cut through every catโ€™s sleep.
Image

xxxxBramblestrike spotted the patrol before they spotted her. Dovepaw may have been the one leading, but she seemed so hell-bent on just travelling forward that she really was quite prone to miss the errors in her ways. Bramblestrike was not free of that flaw herself - though she certainly wouldnโ€™t admit to it - but sheโ€™d still been left to look for danger herself regardless.
xxxxAnd she most certainly had spotted it. Four toms - all quite sizeable - and sheโ€™d actually managed to smell them ahead of their encounter. Admittedly that seemed to be solely because of a sudden gust of wind in the correct direction, but her eyes turned appropriately, and there they were. Eight eyes poking out of the shrubbery ahead. Two far twitchier than the others.
xxxxDovepawโ€™s sense of where they were meant to be going was as strong as ever, and it lead straight through the eyes ahead.
xxxxBrambestrike and her daughter were not worrying about stealth in the slightest. The only change in what she did openly was to hold her chin up just a little higher.
xxxxDovepaw startled, taking a step backwards as the four toms jumped out and flanked the two mollies.
xxxxDovepaw had not yet been trained in how to fight, and, as to be expected, nipped behind her mother for at least some small degree of cover. She hadnโ€™t even been trained in how to bluff properly.
xxxxA cinnamon tabby tom on the left, two black tabby bicolours (one of which was the cat with the nervous look in his eyes), and a silver spotted tabby.
xxxxBramblestrike didnโ€™t falter at all, and spoke as if theyโ€™d already been in conversation.
xxxxโ€œExcuse us, weโ€™re clan cats, and Starclan can help us through disgusting rogues like you when on their business.โ€
xxxxThe cinnamon and one of the tabbies - they seemed to be the younger two - gave each other an amused glance.
xxxxโ€œI think you really should be glad weโ€™re clan cats.โ€ the cinnamon tom said. His accent was strange. The vowels all sounded flat and the consonants were horrible. That โ€œrโ€ alone seemed to last long enough for a tree to grow. โ€œIf we were rogues, weโ€™d have mocked and attacked you for that.โ€ Bramblestrike frowned, not understanding why that would be, and certainly not feeling she needed criticism from these idiots.
xxxxโ€œWhat Starclan business is this?โ€ The eldest cat said.
xxxxโ€œIt must be urgent for you to have lost so much weight while travelling.โ€
xxxxBramblestrike shook her head proudly, about to speak for the two of them.
xxxxโ€œI felt something calling me this way.โ€ Dovepaw spoke first.
xxxxThe oldest looking tom nodded.
xxxxโ€œWherever itโ€™s calling you, if it calls you further, youโ€™re welcome to stay here for long enough to regain your strength.โ€ He looked at each of the mollies in turn, scrutinising their faces. โ€œI donโ€™t believe Iโ€™ve seen either of you at a gathering before. Have you? He looked very briefly at the silver spotted tabby, who shook his head stiffly. โ€œWhich clan are you from?โ€
xxxxBramblestrike puffed up her chest. โ€œHow rude of you not to know. What sort of clan cats are you to not know about Ridgeclan?โ€ There was pain in her tone, as much as sheโ€™d love to hide that. She hadnโ€™t lost her ability for sentimentality over the moons of travelling. If anything, it had grown stronger.
xxxxโ€œThereโ€™s more clans than a cat could ever be expected to count. How are we meant to know the history of every single clan?โ€ The younger mackerel tabby quietly asked. The cinnamon tabby shook his head, manipulating his expression in an absolutely ridiculous display of confusion. What was there to be confused about?
xxxxโ€œAnd what clan is this that you donโ€™t know?โ€
xxxxโ€œGustclan.โ€ said the silver tabby. Bramblestrike turned up her nose.
xxxxBefore her mother could speak, Dovepaw spoke first. โ€œIs your camp in roughly that direction?โ€ Dovepaw gestured with one paw, pointing straight ahead. The toms each nodded in turn. โ€œThen I, at least, would love to stay with you until weโ€™re ready to move on, although I do feel like weโ€™re close now. Mother?โ€
xxxxBramblestrike didnโ€™t want to stay with them when they should still be continuing onwards, but her daughter mattered far more. Cold as she was willing to be - and sheโ€™d displayed being in her previous clans - she wasnโ€™t going to hurt her daughter like that. Her daughter was far more important than any other factor to consider.
xxxxAs the six cats were approaching to this camp, at least, according to the toms, Bramblestrike felt eyes on her pelt. She turned her gaze the appropriate way.
xxxxThey seemed to be being lead forward almost as much by Dovepaw as by the Gustclan cats. Bramblestrike trusted her daughter and she knew they werenโ€™t going to come to harm being lead by her.
xxxxHer eyes were free to turn to where she felt the prickling in her pelt from.
xxxxAnd sure enough, there was a pair of green eyes staring at her.
xxxxAnd a moment later, a grey tabby tom had emerged out of the bushes, integrating himself into the middle of the party. He was staring right at Bramblestrike.
xxxxโ€œMum?โ€
xxxxBramblestrike frowned for a moment, before her eyes widened in surprise and recognition. She could feel similar reactions all around her.
xxxxโ€œMinnowkit?
Image

xxxxThe new section of camp was almost finished to many eyes. There was plenty of nesting material around the whole new sheltered section instead human shelters. The sides were split off from each other, so that one was large and full of small niches and nooks to hide in. The other was smaller and though it had plenty of areas to hide still, most of them were too large for a cat to feel safe in such a large space. At the end of the smaller space was a thing that looked like a reverse tree - two trunks growing on the outside and branches growing between them up the middle.
xxxxThe late Harrierpelt had called it a โ€œladderโ€.
xxxxThat name had not been disputed since his death, much as it was previously.
xxxxAt the top of the ladder was a large space, where tree branches criss-crossed above the lower spaces right to their opposite end, and the tree branches over the smaller lower space were so tightly packed as the branches in the other upper area of the internal space of camp. A cat simply didnโ€™t need to worry about falling between the branches here, even though it was far more obvious here than there that they were indeed made out of branches.
xxxxIt was going to be a magnificent addition to camp once it was done.
xxxxBut for now, it was ventilated without design; that is, to say, that the wind came through cracks all around it.
xxxxWinter had highlighted this, at least, and as the warriors took steps to make sure it was habitable, they did their best to patch up the gaps in the branches of the outside of the larger space.
xxxxIt was going to more than double the internal spaces of camp once it was finished, but after witnessing how the wind entered it currently, no one wanted to use it before that.
Image

xxxxNoctulepathโ€™s attention was drawn away from the fresh-kill pile when she heard the new cats introducing themselves. It was muffled a little by some of the apprentices playfighting nearby (and certainly she could blame Xanthe and Xiomara for the racket they were making, and for disturbing the kitsโ€™ play, later).
xxxxThose cats in camp at the moment quickly came to greet them in turn; Knotfish seemed to take the lead, but Lobsterclaw, Mosquitowhisker, and Camberfoot all approached together. Pheasantcloud was visibly struggling to persuade Garganeywhisker to come forward to say hello, but as it had taken almost a moon for her to say anything at all to Swayingtrees when heโ€™d arrived, and that that was fairly typical for her, needing to be persuaded to say anything hardly came as a surprise. Martinwhisker called out a greeting from where he was stationed guarding camp. Even the kits paused just long enough from their play for Peonykit to call out a proud โ€œHello!โ€ to the newcomers before continuing.
xxxxNoctulepath felt a nose nudge against her side, and turned to see her mother behind her, giving her an encouraging look.
xxxxโ€œYou wanted to be a mentor again, didnโ€™t you? Maybe if Chubtail sees you making a good impressionโ€ฆโ€
xxxxNoctulepath nodded, getting at exactly what her mother was meaning. And although that was a good motivation too, she really did just want to join in with greeting the newcomers.
xxxxUnlike most of them, she stayed back a little, not wanting to crowd them like they seemed to be intent on doing (admittedly it didnโ€™t hurt that she had a great view of Camberfoot from behind the others like this).
xxxxShe was feeling like maybe she could wait, when Chubtail caught her eye, and seemed to have a moment of realisation.
xxxxโ€œIโ€™ll need to check with our leader, Heronstar, but I think I have a very capable mentor free to let you grow into a warrior while youโ€™re here, Dovepaw.โ€ Noctulepath didnโ€™t miss the look of mixed horror and amusement on Minnowstormโ€™s face at what seemed to be his littermate still being a barely trained apprentice. โ€œAnd Iโ€™m sure Noctulepath would love to be your mentor too.โ€
xxxxThe new apprentice practically bounced with happiness - presumably at the idea of finally becoming a warrior.

nettle padded through the undergrowth, glancing anxiously at heather as she wandered close to the edge of the lake, seemingly unaware of the dangers the ice-cold water posed to her. the striped tom weaved to the other side of her, nudging her further away from the grass. "you silly tom, the water doesn't bite!"
"no, but frost does. do you want to lose your tail like jungle? he was never the same! poor kit was traumatized." nettle said, shivering as he remembered the blackened blue tail of jungle, a loner that nettle and heather knew as rogues. she purred and flicked his ears affectionately with her tail.
"alright, i'll walk on this side, if it makes you feel better." heather agreed, her ginger fur spiked up against the cold wind.
"it does make me feel better. if not for yourself, for the kits that might be in your stomach," he purred, his eyes warm with affection. nettle and heather had been trying for moons to get pregnant, but nettle had a good feeling this moon. of course... he did every moon.
"we don't know if i'm pregnant," heather meowed, somewhat forlorn. "but once we get to wiltedclan, there will be a healer that can tell us."
"i think they're called medicine cats," nettle corrected her, pushing her even further from the lake's edge.
"you know that we have to walk across the lake, right?" heather pointed out. "it's as solid as it can be; it's in the middle of leaf-bare." nettle sighed, but nodded, before gingerly stepping out onto the cool surface. it was solid, but he still wanted to walk nose to tail in front of heather. the journey was long, but eventually they stepped onto the white sandy beaches of wiltedclan; it was heavily coated with their scent, so they waited respectfully on the beach. there was no need to rush this; swanstar knew they were coming. they had been friends- well as much as you can be friends to a cat like swanstar- when she was a loner. it was like nettle was quick to serve under the high queen, but rather, that he wanted a safe and secure place to raise his family with heather- who had been called by starclan. and he would follow her anywhere.

new cats:
[ the once loner is renamed nettlefoot and joins the clans as a privy council member. ]
heathernose joins the clan after being directed by starclan as a privy council member. ]
mod note: the privy council is simply warriors of high birth or high nobility that directs or advises the high queen.
in case of emergency, with a full privy council vote, they can overthrow the queen.
a queen must have a privy council. it is not optional.

border patrols:
[ meadowlark and cloversprig ]
[ nettlefoot and serpenttongue ]
mod note: please use all images from here for realism.
i would also like for any cats found on patrol (for this patrol) to be a male.

hunting patrols:
[ bearspirit and siskingaze ]
[ ravenheart and heathernose ]

herb gathering:
[ honeytail ]

sprout training
[ bearspirit trains mulleinsprout in combat ]

consumption of herbs and food
[ x1 trout and x1 salmon is eaten this moon ]
