LEAF-FALL
A chill starts to creep in the air, signaling the end of Greenleaf and the beginning of Leaffall. As the days become shorter and the skies turn to a dead grey, it's time for the Clans to start working harder and stockpiling prey for the coming Leafbare. Cherish the last few warm breezes that Greenleaf is leaving behind, they won't be around for much longer.

Small note: Around August 20th, I go to college, so my schedule for posting will be Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. Please pm me if I missed your clan. I'm less likely to miss your clan if you put somewhere on your post that I am your mod.

Kestrelclaw had led a small group of warriors to dig graves for Badgerstripe and Gannetstorm. The two cats had fought the sickness to the best of their abilities but in the end, had been overpowered. Now, they would be laid to rest next to the river where their spirits would ride the currents to Starclan.

"Th-they were good warriors," said Honeystar, forcing the words from her throat. "They gave their hearts and now their lives to the service of their clan. May they find peace in Starclan."

The clan was not silent, but neither were they loud. Cats murmured, whispering apologies. Condolences. Words of fear and words of hope. Sickness, many believed, was the worst way to die. At least a predator or enemy cat would kill you quickly. At least when it was fire, you would not feel too much pain before you blacked out. At least if you drowned, you wouldn't feel much more than a few moments of terror before the water rushed into your lungs. But sickness... To know that you were dying and be unable to prevent a thing. To know that all the herbs in the world couldn't heal you. To know that every day could be your last and you wouldn't know when. That. That uncertainty was the worst thing of all.

It serves Swancloud right, thought Fritillarynose in one of her moments of lucidity. I want him to die. He deserves it. Just like I do. There was no doubt in her mind that she would go to the Dark Forest. It was what she deserved, after all. But the thought of being separated from her friends and family... If only she could go back in time! If only she could have not made the mistake in getting tangled up in Oakheart's machinations. If only she had told someone sooner. But that would have only hastened her death. But she deserved it. She deserved it for being so stupid.

You could have been better, said Minkstar's voice. You could have been a distinguished warrior. Fritillarynose closed her eyes in pain. I know, she thought. She had been hearing voices recently. Just another sign of her sickness. You deserve to ROT in the Dark Forest, growled Daisywhisker's voice. For taking me away from my family and friends.

Fritillarynose yowled from pain and anger and her wide-open eyes caught a flash of dusty-brown fur coming closer to her, murmuring assurances that didn't help. Nothing helped. Nothing would help. Never again.

Chirp chirp! the cry of the birds was erelevant. Chirrp? Two patrols were out driving badgers away from their territory. That meant more injuries at the brink of Leaf-Fall, more precious herbs to be wasted on injures that never should have happened, but were happening because of badgers. Cheep! Blossomfur was painful in his mind, like a wound that seemed to heal, only to reopen at the sign of any disasters to affect the clan. Emberblaze's ears pricked everytime a cat entered camp, but it was only the usual things: apprentices chattering about their training, the hunting patrols returning. Wearily, the tom sniffed through the herbs, dissatisfied at the sign of no poppyseeds or raspberry leaves for upcoming injuries in the harsher months of Leaf-Bare ("Winter" Blossomfur had called it, the Lunar Guardian remembered sadly as he thought about the last time he had spoken to his mate before the badger attack). Cheep! Cheep! a warning cry jolted him away from his spiralling thoughts as the badger battle patrol clumsily bustled into camp. He caught the scents of Swiftsky and his patrol among them, along with two new cats among them, the smell of fear unmistakable.

"Emberblaze? Solarspark? My patrol found two loners requesting to be taken to camp. With us we also have Lyrastar's patrol." Swiftsky began assertively, with a glance at the two cats being flanked by Flamewing and Daisystream. Emberblaze proudly watched his daughter as she mastered the job she had been given to watch the duo with the air of an older warrior, before thinking of the kits in the nursery. "It was dangerous to bring two loners into our camp. Think of the kits!" the Lunar Guardian scolded; if Speckledleaf's kits were taken then he would lose more of his kin, and their family had already suffered the loss of Blossomfur - he still couldn't forgive himself for causing an argument the last time he had spoken to her, and not saving her in the badger battle. "The clan is well protected Emberblaze. We were fortunate enough to only have one injury, and these two pose no threat." Lyrastar meowed, giving him a glare. Flamewing gave Emberblaze a look filled with annoyance and gave Lyrastar a glare back. Instead of feeling proud of his daughter he felt faintly embarrassed as she showed a rebellious flare against her leader in front of senior warriors. He then caught sight of Blacknose's injury, and the fur along his spine bristled as he saw Solarspark already rushing up with herbs while he had attempted to argue with Lyrastar.

The leader in question beckoned to him with a twitch of her tail, leaving Daisystream to her own thing as Flamewing and the two loners followed her to the base of the Moontree. Emberblaze padded up, eying the tom and she-cat that had been found by the patrol. "What do you request, Lyrastar?" asked the puzzled Lunar Guardian once he was over. "Two loners have asked to join our clan. Knowing that some cats might not... like having new warriors join from outside I would like your opinions - I think you should hear their story too," the leader explained, acknowledging the two loners with a kind glance to each. Flamewing puffed out her chest from beside the leader, her eyes glinting with pride at being asked to talk with the leader on helping two cats join their clan. The lunar Guardian dipped his head to Lyrastar, before looking towards the duo.

The older tom spoke first, shifting his paws anxiously. "I'm Apple, and this is my kit, Flower," he said. "Thank you for driving away the badger." Apple added, his eyes shining with gratitude. "What are you thanking us for? It's CosmoClan's duty to protect their clanmates, and that extends to other cats with problems who need our help," Lyrastar meowed, exchanging a glance with Emberblaze, clearly remembering the group of rouges they had helped to find a new territory for. The first loner's gaze darkened and he curled his tail, before announcing with a shaking voice, "The badger killed my mate while she went hunting with Flower, my daughter barely escaped... She gave her life for Flower, just as your clan were ready to give yours." Apple exchanged a glance with his daughter, and Flamewing jumped back, looking immensely frightened, before lying her fur flat. "M-my mother lost her her life to a badger, Lyrastar," Flamewing hissed to Lyrastar. "We can't turn down Apple and Flower! Emberblaze, we have to let them join the clan." the tortoiseshell mewed feverently. Lyrastar mulled over it, looking surprised at the younger warrior's outburst. Flower tensed, blinking at Flamewing gratefully, and looking at her father with a worried expression. "Welcome to CosmoClan. You'll be given your warrior names at sundown, and I hope you two can show Apple and Flower around."

Featherfall smiled fondly at her three kits that she was wrapped around in her nest in the queen's den. They were only a few sunrises old, but the entire clan adored the three little kits who had yet to open their eyes, despite the worry that there wouldn't be enough prey for leafbare after the arrivals of Fuzzywhisker, Applefish and Flowersplash, as well as Softstep's kits and Heatherclaw moving into the nursery as well. Yet CosmoClan had plenty of prey, it was only Emberblaze's worries causing the clan to debate their food supplies holding out during the cold season. "What do you think they should be named?" asked Birdlight, his entire voice lit up with hope and happiness. "The toms - you said they looked alike so why not Mintkit and Mallowkit?' Featherfall asked, tilting her head upwards so that she could meet Birdlight's gaze, so he could see the love held in the depths of her gaze. "They'll certainly grow up to be strong warriors with great names, Featherfall." he meowed, touching the two kits with his nose to acknowledge them. The small white and grey she-cat let out a little mew, sensing that the attention was on her brothers. "How about Dawnkit for the little she-kit?" asked Birdlight, almost anxiously as if he wondered if that would be the wrong name for the kit. Another litter of kits to mark the strength and powerful new dawn of the clan, Featherfall thought to herself. "That's perfect," the queen mewed in delight. The happy family curled up in the nursery, their bonds stronger with the naming of the kits.

CharClan is a clan of the forest- despite the fact that a large river cuts through the center of the territory, the cats are seldom taught how to swim. They much prefer climbing trees and letting the sun warm their fur.
The cats of CharClan enjoy the simple things in life, but their leader ensures that the warrior code is strictly followed. Forbidden relationships are strongly prohibited, and any cat found to be breaking the rule may not leave the camp for two moons.
By the time a kit reaches the age of six moons, they must have decided whether they want to be a Hunter or a Patroller. While apprentices are taught the skills necessary for both roles, they are only tested on their role of choice. If a kit hasn't decided by the time they are six moons old, the leader of the clan will choose for them. An apprentice is not permitted to switch roles.
CharClan Territory mainly consists of grass, trees, and wasteland. A river cuts through the territory, branching off into three separate rivers and a small creek that runs through camp. The camp is surrounded by a small forest of pine trees, which then merge into flat grasslands. On the Northern side of the river are mountains and dry, lifeless ground. A small tunnel in the mountain leads to a cave where small orange fruits grow from vines covering the walls. If one eats the fruit, then falls asleep in the cave, they will receive a vision from StarClan.
Common pastimes in CharClan include climbing trees, relaxing in the open stretch of land between the forest and river, and making dens. These activities are often ignored, for the duties of warriors and apprentices are often time-consuming and leave little to no free time.
The different types of prey that can be caught are frogs, minnows, mice, rabbits, squirrels, and birds. They are often stockpiled for long amounts of time, even when cats go hungry. Common predators are foxes and eagles.
CharClan uses force to get the things they want, but not for lack of strategy. The clan and its leader are worryingly cunning, but know their worth and what they can handle. This leads to a lot of waiting and a lot of watching for the perfect moment.
Which brings us to the last role- Officers. Officers are personally close to the clan leader, and their sole purpose is to learn about enemy clans and report back to the leader. Only Patrollers can become officers, as they know the territory and borders better than Hunters. Often, the rest of the clan isn't directly told about tensions rising and go on their days normally until they are told to prepare to attack.
An odd aspect about CharClan- they are told which clans to provoke directly by StarClan.
It makes you wonder if they're even being directed by StarClan at all.

“rattlepaw!”

the tabby tom rolled onto his paws as he heard his name. he slowly rose, slipping out of the apprentice’s den and craning to find the source. near the entrance of camp, sagepaw - no, sagefur now, - and viperpaw sat, signaling the tom over.

he padded over, looking to the both of them with confusion. viperpaw stood up with a smile, leading them out of the forest as sagefur explained. “yeah, viperpaw said he heard bumblewing talking about you guys taking your assessment next moon-”

“which would be so, so cold!” viperpaw exclaimed, throwing his head back in a cry. sagefur bumped the squabbling tom for interrupting. as the forest thinned out and the three approached the open grassy area near the cliffside, sagefur continued his explanation.

“ignore him - um, okay, well me and viperpaw thought if i helped you guys train, and you go ask sootstar sometime this half-moon, you could try again before the season’s end.” the striped tom suggested, taking the lead of the group as they headed down the slope to the beach. “this’ll be enough space, i think,” he said softly, clearing bits of driftwood and litter.

rattlepaw’s ears flicked; a wave of gratitude washed over him. “really? well, thanks.” he mewed, padding up to his brother’s side. with a smile, he turned to sagefur. “well, what did you do so well that viperpaw and i have seemingly failed?” he chuckled.

sagefur paused to think, looking around. “well, i am a pretty good climber. nothing to climb around, though.” he remarked, padding up to the brothers and butting past them. “but i’m sure we’ll find something!” he called out as he passed them, motioning for them to follow with a flick of his tail.

“could try hunting,” rattlepaw suggested, which earned him a rough shove from his brother. viperpaw laughed as the tom nearly toppled over - as if to finish him off, he pinned rattlepaw down.

“on the beach? you’re delusional!” his laughter turned into a hiccup as he tried to bat rattlepaw around. “we can- hic - try battlin’ -” sagefur bowled viperpaw over, howling as the tom scrambled back to his paws.

sagefur smiled cockily, running a few licks through his fur. “thought i could get the hiccups out, yknow,” as he catches viperpaw’s gaze, he looks away momentarily. with a huff, he helped the tom up and looked between the two brothers. “um, yeah- we can try working on your fighting skills.”

“not like there’s anything to hunt down here,” viperpaw remarked to his brother, bumping his cheek to rattlepaw’s. “now, lets get to it! sagefur, lead the way!” the warrior seems uncertain, as if doubting his own strength, but he shakes it off.

the three toms spend their morning tussling in the sand; rattlepaw grows to be quite arrogant, hushing sagefur’s worry when he gets a handful of scratches across his back. you know, battle scars and all that. viperpaw swears not to tell anyone his brother got the scratches from a lose bit of driftwood. sagefur was found to be very strong, easily throwing the tabby apprentice off balance and into the tide.

cicadaflutter butted into the medicine cat den with a low growl. “we need to get down to the caves, now. rattlepaw and viperpaw are hurt.” she shoved past a passing warrior as she exited; the two medicine cats followed after with hurried steps.

sootstar’s ears swiveled as she heard the mention of her two sons. rivergum did the same - the mates exchanged a glance filled with worry before darting after the group.

a hunting patrol had found sagefur yowling for help within the depths of the cave system. smoke’s rising was already down in the cave, watching as the tide rolled in to swarm over the bodies of rattlepaw and viperpaw. the two toms had been pulled out of the water, but only one seemed conscious.

rattlepaw gasped for air as he expelled the salty ocean water. it seemed like it would never come out with every heave and sigh. smoke’s rising was wary to comfort the tom, not wanting to somehow injure him or his brother.

"viperpaw.. he w-wanted to try climbing.." sagefur bumbled nervously, his eyes wide and nearly clouded over with grief. "i-i encouraged them, you know.." he told orchidstep, who quietly soothed his worries with a brush of her tongue.

"i didn't mean to.. i promise."

“rattleclaw and vipersnap were loud, ambitious and mischievous.” turtlefur had never heard her leader’s voice this.. sullen. the grey clouds swathed over the sky, muffling the sunset as the day came to an end.

“it is only right i honor them as warriors, before you all.” sootstar blinked away tears as she looked to her clan. “rattleclaw.. he was a smart little tom. knew how to press my and his father’s buttons.” she bent down to her son’s side, a heaved sob escaping her as she pressed her muzzle into his cold, wet fur.

rivergum stepped in beside his mate to fill in for her as she grieved. nothing had been the same since the fire - this seemed like commonplace now, a cat quickly replacing her as she trailed off incoherently during clan meetings or patrols.

the grey tabby tom’s voice was low as he looked down at his kin. “vipersnap was the one always cracking jokes, i’m sure you’ve all heard them.” the clan murmured in agreement, gazes shifting in the crowd. “more energetic than his brother by far, but vipersnap loved patrolling alongside me and sootstar. it’s boring work out there, and yet he committed to it.” his nose twitched as he tried to stay on top of his emotions; he scanned the crowd for bumbletail and poppyleaf, amberclan’s two medicine cats.

as they were motioned forward, poppyleaf brushed past her old mentor. she looked to him with sympathy, but bumbletail could still see the fear the tortoiseshell molly held in her gaze.

as the pair sat in front of the crowd, rivergum nodded to them both. “i would like to thank both of you for trying so hard to..” his voice falters as his gaze gets caught on the two apprentices laid in front of him. “to save rattleclaw and vipersnap.”

bumbletail and poppyleaf shared a glance and seemed to dip their heads in sync, bumbletail speaking for them both. “i am incredibly sorry that our herbs could not help this time, rivergum, but it.. relieves me to know you’ve forgiven us.” the ginger tom tumbles over his words, knowing he had to be professional now.

rivergum smiled softly, nodding them away. “if anybody has anything they’d like to say before we end tonight ..” as much as he wanted this day to be over, rivergum knew tomorrow would be worse. they would have to bury viperpaw and rattlepaw tomorrow morning, and he knew he couldn’t shoulder sootstar’s mourning alongside his own.

slowly, the night air was filled with stories and jokes, sourced from various warriors and apprentices. sootstar refused to leave her kins sides. she could only look up and laugh when somebody recalled the patrol where viperpaw was nearly toppled over by a speedy rat.

“it was just,” mousecurl made a motion with her paws, sending one into the air flying. “ah, geez, mousepaw, i think it bit me!” she imitated the tom, drawing in a roaring laugh from her clanmates.

sagefur had buried himself deep towards the back wall of the warrior’s den. the shame he felt was unbearable; he was ready to jump into a shallow grave just beside viperpaw and rattlepaw. he knew that inadvertently, he had caused their demise with the suggestion of training. as much as he tried not to dwell on it, the thought continued to sprout and grow in his mind.

it was not a good night for anybody.

the medicine cats cannot find cobweb for smallheart's injuries. he goes untreated for a moon, but acts like he just rejected the herbs they had in stock.

viperpaw suggests to rattlepaw that they both try to learn from sagefur on how to pass their warrior assessment. while exploring the ocean cave and swimming in it's pools, viperpaw is pulled into the ocean by a quick tide. rattlepaw and sagefur jump in to help; sadly, viperpaw and rattlepaw both drown. viperpaw's death took place in the cave, whereas rattlepaw died of 'dry drowning'- water remained in his lungs even after being rescued from the water.

(Is it still ok to start? I hope it is ;v;)

My Clan is called CavernClan. They live in old caverns deep underground, dug long ago and forgotten. They exclusviely live in the underground, their camp and territory. They are secretive and unsociable cats, since they don't have very many underground neighbors. Their coats are usually dark in color, but a cat with a lighter pelt is not uncommon. Their paw pads are very tough and the cats are generally very sturdy, and can see particularly well in the dark compared to th average cat, but on the flip side, they are ver sensitive to light.
