ixxx▬fallowstep sat apart from the others, his head bowed, hawkeyes at his side, providing companionship instead of comforting words. their fur mingled, flanks rubbing against one another. it pained fallowstep more than he'd expected that his family was without him, that they'd deliberately pushed him away, and not even only physically, for the reopened scar along his shoulder pulsed with a dull ache.
ixxx▬the pair of deceased felines had been gently let go in the river; it seemed to be a ritual, at this point, that when a cat died they were allowed to make their way to starclan via the rushing current (or, in plumshade's case, the dark forest).
ixxx▬amongst the mourning, it was also a time of celebration for many, for a number of the clan's kits had become old enough to become apprentices.
ixxx▬wiltedstar's voice did not rouse the families of the dead, and he had not expected it to; while he was often viewed as ruthless, even he would not decline them the chance to allow their grief to pass.
ixxx▬"cats of graveclan," wiltedstar called out, perched atop the head of the foreboding statue that marked the place of his rest. the moon shone dully across the cemetery, and a chilly breeze rustled through, carrying leaves along with it, signaling the swift approach of leaf-fall. "tonight marks a time of both despair and celebration." despite his rather tiny size, wiltedstar's voice had always carried, had always summoned the cats beneath him within moments, and now was no exception.
ixxx▬"there are four kits below me who are now of age to be apprentices," he paused, allowing his gaze to skip to each one of the kits in question. below him, pansykit was bouncing on her heels, whereas magpiekit shook with repressed anxiety. "whinchatkit," wiltedstar began, addressing the curly-furred calico molly who peered up at him with bright eyes that resembled his own, though more orange-tinged. "from this night onward, you will be known as whinchatpaw until you have completed your training and received your warrior name. your mentor will be your father, chamomilewhisker." a pause as his gaze shifted to the orange-tabby bicolor tom. "chamomilewhisker, i am aware that you have recently lost an apprentice." his eyes shot towards those who mourned before he continued. ixxx▬moving on swiftly, wiltedstar's voice spooked magpiekit, who jumped almost out of his skin before he raised his wavering gaze upwards towards the king. "magpiekit," wiltedstar's voice rang out clearly through the night, the only sound other than the breathing of the cats below him being a low hoot of an owl from afar. "from this night onward, you will be known as magpiepaw until you have completed your training and received your warrior name. your mentor will be your mother, barleystep." another pause, another shift of his gaze. "barleystep, i do hope that you train magpiepaw to the best of your ability as a capable warrior."
ixxx▬"pansykit," the black molly who fidgeted suddenly froze, a smile spreading across her muzzle. "from this night onward, you will be known as pansypaw until you have completed your training and received your warrior name. your mentor will be raptorgaze; raptorgaze, i hope that you train pansypaw to the best of your ability as a strong warrior."
ixxx▬"perchkit," the final apprentice-to-be shifted his gaze upwards, orange-tipped ears angled in the direction of the king. "from this night onward, your name will be perchpaw until you have completed your training and received your warrior name. your mentor will be littlefang." the tiny warrior molly blinked widely, and appeared taken aback for a long moment; she shared an incredulous glance with pineflower, who shrugged and gave her a light grin before wiltedstar concluded the apprentice ceremonies. "littlefang, you have proven yourself to be worthy of your suffix; i am sure that you will train him to the best of your ability." ("prejudiced! prejudiced towards -fangs!," neritefang again spoke under her breath, and, beside her, cicadacloud let out a soft snort of agreement.
ixxx▬but there was still one more announcement. "hornetpaw." the apprentice tom in question jerked his head back, looking rather confused for a moment, for he'd been daydreaming (nightdreaming?) of fighting a massive warrior. "you are of age to become a warrior, and you have completed all of your training well; tomorrow night at moonhigh, you will complete your warrior ceremony. i wish you the best of luck." dipping his head once, with a lash of his tail, wiltedstar leapt from the statue and dismissed the clan without a word.

ixxx▬as wiltedstar wove around the statue, he made his way directly to the crypt that harbored the dames and their offspring, along with his mate and unborn kits. "geckosplash," he purred in greeting, pressing his cheek to hers; she leaned up to draw her tongue across his chin lightly before settling back down.
ixxx▬"spidernose says any day now," she murmured, her eyes half-lidded with sleep, for she'd been just barely awake as she listened to the king deliver his ceremonies to the clan.
ixxx▬wiltedstar beamed at this; it was a rare smile, one that he gave to only a few select felines. "i can't wait to see them," a purr rumbled from his throat. "i'm sure they'll be as beautiful as you."
ixxx▬"and just maybe as strong as you," geckosplash shot back, but her next words were halted by a sudden gasp as she convulsed forwards, curling instinctively over her swollen stomach.
ixxx▬wiltedstar panicked for a brief moment; claystream, another dame within the crypt, and one who'd already had a litter of kits, was perfectly aware of what was going on; her voice rang out loudly. "spidernose!"

ixxx▬pineflower released a low purr, cuffing littlefang over the ear with a lanky paw. "congratulations," he rumbled, leaning down to draw a swift lick of affection over the crest of her small forehead. he was incredibly tall and lanky, compared to her, and had to nearly crouch to be eye-to-eye with her.
ixxx▬grinning sideways up at the tom with whom she'd shared her recent moons, littlefang batted him once across the nose teasingly. "thanks," she answered back, tail swishing as she settled into a sit. "i'm sure you'll get an apprentice soon, too," she spoke reassuringly, but pineflower shook his head.
ixxx▬"wiltedstar only likes -fangs and -claws," he pointed out, but paused, whiskers twitching with amusement. "and -splashes, apparently."
ixxx▬littlefang snorted at this; she was the only cat with whom pineflower would share these little quips, the only one in the clan that the other cat seemed comfortable with, but now, he suddenly seemed nervous, fidgety, his tail twitching restlessly.
ixxx▬"what's wrong?" littlefang inquired, cocking her head slightly; normally talkative when they were together, pineflower's silence was a telltale sign that he was struggling to say what was on his mind.
ixxx▬"nothing's wrong, exactly," pineflower's eyes were uneasy, his gaze constantly shifting away from the molly and then returning just as quickly. "but, uh, we've been friends for a little bit now, and, i'm, um, you know, kind of not good at all the sappy stuff, so, uh, i wanted to ask if maybe — "
ixxx▬the small molly interrupted him, her whiskers twitching with barely suppressed amusement. "of course," she answered nonchalantly, curling her tail over her paws and raising her brows at the tom.
ixxx▬" — maybe, uh — of course? of course what?" he blinked, confusion replacing the anxiety on his features for a brief moment.
ixxx▬"of course i'll be your mate, you goose." littlefang was grinning, now, her ears angled towards him as she awaited his response.
ixxx▬it took a moment for his response to actually occur, but then; "you will?" his voice had gone up about three octaves. "oh, littlefang," a purr erupted from his throat as he nearly crushed her with his sudden affection, brushing his cheek against hers and drawing his tongue swiftly over her forehead.
ixxx▬littlefang was giggling, an uncommon occurrence, for she was supposed to be tough! but in this moment, she felt entirely soft, entirely loving and sweet and gentle as she returned the gestures of her newfound mate.

ixxx▬across camp, yet another pair of felines were reveling in their mateship; raven, with the added suffix -call, bounded through the gravestones, nearly bowling chanterellepaw over (which was, really, rather fortunate, for he was hiding a beetle within whinchatpaw's new nest). the point molly was heaving breath into her lungs when she skidded to a halt at the entrance to the crypt, casting her gaze about, and, there!
ixxx▬badgerbelly and ravencall collided with no small amount of force, rejoicing at their reunion; purrs erupted from both of the mollies, their voices mingling as they interrupted one another constantly with reassurances that they would not be going anywhere and that they loved each other and that the kits would be so glad to see you!
ixxx▬the kits in question blinked inquisitively at one another, for was this the molly that their mother had spent so many moons telling them about, burning an image of her into their minds? it must be, what with badgerbelly's reaction.
ixxx▬"mom?" twitekit crept closer, her ears twitching as her siblings tagged along closely behind.
ixxx▬"twitekit!" badgerbelly exclaimed, drawing her tongue swiftly over her only daughter's forehead with no small amount of affection. "this is your mother. second mother, i suppose." shooting a grin at ravencall, badgerbelly herded the rest of her litter closer, with waxkit being last.
ixxx▬"hello," ravencall purred lightly, coiling her tail gently over her paws as she gazed down fondly at these kits that she was meeting for the first time; they strongly resembled the surrogate that badgerbelly had chosen, a handsome tomcat by the name of stagtail.
ixxx▬"we've heard lots about you," swiftkit pointed out, his voice almost as high as his sister's (as opposed to his brother's, which was already rather deep).
ixxx▬his words made ravencall, if possible, even more joyous; she turned and beamed at her molly mate, and was hit with a sudden rush of home that didn't come from graveclan, but rather from the family that all peered at her now.

ixxx▬dogbite and blackthorn stared at one another for a long moment of silence, for they each had a kit dangling from their jaws.
ixxx▬blackthorn, setting his bundle of tortoiseshell fur down gently between his paws, eyed dogbite.
ixxx▬"i won't say anything if you don't," he said after a moment, sweeping his tail to curl protectively around the kit below him, who he'd decided to call avocadokit.
ixxx▬nodding slightly, dogbite, too, set the kit in his jaws down upon the springy grass below. "who is the mother?" he inquired, eyeing the pretty kit as he scooted closer to his own offspring, a primarily black feline with darker patches that resembled heavypad, owlpaw, and hickorypatch's.
ixxx▬"waverly," blackthorn answered, hushing his kit soothingly. "and his? what's his name?"
ixxx▬dogbite blinked down at his kit; he'd not thought of a name yet, which was usually a vital point in having a kit. "his mother is adriel," he replied, casting his gaze about. his optics alighted upon a patch of richly-smelling plants that, had he had any semblance of knowledge about herbs, he would be aware that they were poisonous; as such, he only knew the name of such a plant. "and his name is oleander."
ixxx▬blackthorn nodded, considering the name. "hers is avocadokit," he continued, and picked up the kit. "we can back each other up; if anyone asks, we found them."

ixxx▬it seemed a time for love, a fact that rubbed sorely upon the grieving families; claystream and toadsplash were coiled around one another in a tightly-knit ball of warm pelts and happy hearts, cormorantface and raptorgaze were entertaining their adopted kits (cormorantface seemed finally to have accepted their presence, and, on occasion, could even be found showing affection to raptorgaze, which he'd not done for moons), mirra and sweetdrop were playing an odd game where mirra would sweep her gaze about, come up with a color, and then sweetdrop would have to guess which cat she was speaking of based only on the color.
ixxx▬on the other side of camp, a pair of new arrivals were chatting idly, unaffected by the recent deaths within graveclan. valerianthroat was rather loud, with a high-pitched laugh that could be described as a giggle, whereas laureleye was more boastful, with a thick accent that was unplaceable and plenty of tales about things that just might have been true.
ixxx▬"aye, the fish was as big as me!" laureleye's fur puffed out in all directions as if in demonstration as to how big the fish in question actually was. valerianthroat was sure that he was fibbing, if even just a little bit, but their whiskers still twitched in amusement nonetheless, and they let him continue to tell his tale. "and i caught it real quick, snatched it right up!"
ixxx▬while laureleye might be exaggerating, valerianthroat still found a companion in their new tomcat friend; they were sure, now, that they would find a home within graveclan. they only hoped that everyone was not always grieving, for sad felines made for boring conversation.

ixxx▬gatorpaw crept through the brush, a pair of other apprentices at his heels; they'd been warned not to leave camp, but, alas, when had gatorpaw ever listened to anyone? besides, what he was doing would be helpful in solving the murders of gorseclaw and vervainpaw.
ixxx▬"what are we looking for, exactly?" aloepaw inquired with a hint of annoyance; her brother had always insisted that he needed to know everything, to solve every mystery and answer every question that he had.
ixxx▬from beside her, minkpaw was the one to answer. "clues," he said simply, shrugging. he had seemed to take a liking to gatorpaw, and had been stuck to his hip ever since he first saw the other tomcat.
ixxx▬"yes, but what kind of — "
ixxx▬"shhhhhhhhhh!" gatorpaw hushed her loudly, sweeping his tail in a graceful arc as he wove between a pair of trees.
ixxx▬aloepaw snorted at his attempt to silence her. "what, am i going to scare off the clues?" she asked derisively, but fell silent anyways.
ixxx▬as the trio found themselves suddenly in the place where the crime had been committed, gatorpaw was enraptured with all of the tiny details that he found. a tuft of fur, a dark crimson pawprint that had long-since dried on the root of a tree (and had not been washed away by the rain that hadn't occurred), a tuft of silver fur that was snagged upon a bramble nearby.
ixxx▬none of this captured aloepaw's attention, for she'd stepped on one of the brambles that had held the fur; cursing under her breath, she shook the red stained paw wildly, blood splattering upon a delicate, blue flowering plant that arched upwards. the molly drew her tongue across her fresh wound, rolling her eyes upwards at this rather pointless journey, for what was her brother going to find that the warriors had not?
ixxx▬a silver-winged bird with a pale, dappled stomach circled above, letting out a shriek of agreement.

sootstar’s revival was slow, but the clan knew she would be back soon. after the traumatizing attack that took two of her lives, the she-cat was silent. ferretfur recognized the cycle; after the birth of her kits, sootstar had been jubilant in her ways - something rare for the leader at the time. now, she sulked around camp, her long tail draped between her legs.

the flames licked across her cheek, burning her fur and rupturing the vessels under her skin. sootstar screamed in agony, nearly tripping over her own paws as she headed for the river. every nerve connected on her face screamed for attention, something to soothe and calm them.

her prayers were answered in a sickening twist. olive bowled the black molly into the river, leaping to her back as her nose smashed against the river rocks. her cries were muffled by the rushing water; the sound of the blood pulsing through her ears was a quick comparison.

olive took hold of sootstar’s scruff, heaving the molly up above the waves. for a second, she felt okay as she took a gasp of air. though, it didn’t last; the tom simply plunged her under the water again, thrusting the burnt side of her face against the jagged rocks. the blood in the water just clouded her vision. she would soon come to realize that was the last thing she would see from her left eye.

ferretfur had taken her place since the fire occurred. the deputy didn’t expect to be replacing his leader so early in his career, but he wasn’t one to complain. he lead patrols into new territory; past unfamiliar foggy forests, a field of towering wildflowers, and now onto the fiery sands, their pawpads only cooled by the tide.

admittedly, they had already settled into a small patch of trees just near the cliff-lined beach, but ferretfur was intrigued by this new area. nettleflower was first to suggest a scope of the land, followed by starling and newtberry’s interest. russetstrike, hardy as ever, swallowed his anxiety as the patrol delved down the slopes and onto the drifty beach.

newtberry and starling were as close as two peas in a pod; together, they trotted along the jagged cliff wall in search for anything out of the ordinary. nettleflower was overjoyed to be ‘in charge’ of a patrol - in all honesty, ferretfur didn’t have the heart to tell her he was the one leading this scavenge. the young molly approached the shore, as if the ocean called for her and her alone. playfully, she put a paw down as the waves receded. she played coy as the tide returned, popping back with wet paw in tow.

russetstrike seemed the most unnerved, his bulky pelt standing on edge as he stayed as close to the slope as possible. ferretfur looked back at the tom, questioning his demeanor. “you alright, russetstrike?”

the older tom nodded in reply, though he was too busy wrapped up in the sands texture to mumble anything coherent. he swept his paw through the sand, unsheathing his claws as it ran between his toes. he seemed puzzled, looking up to ferretfur with a confused expression. “yeah, just, why so much of it?”

“why so much.. sand?”

“yes,” russetstrike insisted. “ive never seen so much; i mean, mainly in the riverbanks, but this is.. weird.” he extended a claw, digging into the sand and making linear stripes. ferretfur chuckled, though he had to agree. it surely wasn’t a familiar sight.

he got to his paws, motioning for russetstrike to do the same. “well, i don’t think theres much we can do about that,” the tom walked down the beach, tail swaying as he looked for newtberry and starling. the beach was clear, no sign of any new prey for them to hunt. russetstrike hurriedly bounded after ferretfur, his large paws leaving noticeable dents in the sand.

ferretfur found the two toms side by side, watching the waterfall cascade into the ocean. starling mews something soft, causing a throaty laugh to escape newtberry. they rest against each other, their purrs rumbling the air. ferretfur feels as if he’s intruding as he breaks the silence. “we’re going to head back to the camp now,” he bumbles nervously, a chuckle punctuating his words. calling the unfamiliar forest his camp sounds wrong, but he swallows the thought. newtberry turns his head to the deputy, nodding in a silent response. his round, olive eyes were swathed in a lovely glow, a purr still emitting. ferretfur would be lying if he said he had not mistaken the dappled grey tom’s affectionate gaze for his own mate’s.

the two toms gather to their paws and joined the patrol; now, they just needed to corral nettleflower away from the tide. the molly rested, the hairs on her belly just brushing the sand. as the waves approached, she leapt back with excitement. there was a lagging pattern in the tide, one she promised to keep up with when she had time.

as she watched her patrol advance, she plodded happily towards them. “okay, so, i don’t think there are any fish in the ocean-” she pauses for a moment, craning to look back at the sea. “scratch that, i mean like, none we can reach, but i think thats okay because we always have the river,” her head snaps back into place as she looks to the waterfall. she doesn’t seem to be phased as newtberry and starling begin to go off back towards the slope, instead continuing her rambling. “and i was thinking, maybe if the fish aren’t that smart, theyll swim into the waterfall, yknow, and fall on the beach-”

ferretfur silences the bumbling molly with a curt nod; he motions for her to follow, egging her on to continue as he padded towards the slope back to high ground. russetstrike follows slowly, dragging his tail through the sand. he kicks a clump of wet sand off of his hindleg with a hint of irritation before chasing after ferretfur and nettleflower.

The young ginger-and-white tabby tom's entire body was shaking in nervousness and anticipation. I'm going to be a warrior! He shouted in his head silently, I'm going to be a proper SeaClan cat now! He had endured six- no, seven, moons of being called a "paw", an apprentice, learning all about the ways of his new life, and the ways of the warrior code. He looked up suddenly as Leafstar's voice reached his ears, "Do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to defend and protect the Clan, even at the cost of your own life?" A shudder passed through the young ginger-and-white tabby tom as he allowed the question to sink in. He hesitated for a moment, thinking to himself, Am I ready to make that leap? Am I ready to give my life for the good of the Clan? Slightly shaking his head to clear his thoughts, the former loner replied, in as steady a meow as he could muster, "Yes, I do." "Then," Leafstar continued, his leaf-green gaze meeting Cardinalpaw's green ones, "by the power of StarClan I give you your warrior name. From this day forth, you shall be known as Cardinalsong. StarClan honors your belief in your ancestors and your determination, and we welcome you as a full member of SeaClan."

Cardinalsong's jaws opened in shock. Did he say, belief in my ancestors? He thought, staring as the sandy brown tabby tom leapt down from his ledge to meet him, was that why it was easy to believe there was StarClan, watching over us? Leafstar rested his muzzle on his shoulder, and the younger tom bent to lick his shoulder in return. The ceremony was over. The new SeaClan warrior lifted his head up in pride as Leafstar leapt up to the Meeting Ledge once more, and as the SeaClan cats roared as one, "Cardinalsong! Cardinalsong! Cardinalsong!"

As the cats' cries died down, Leafstar added, "From now, until the dawn of tomorrow, you shall sit vigil inside the entrance of this camp, toward the sea. You shall not speak to anyone during this time, as you should use the time to gather your own thoughts about the coming days, and your new responsibilities as a warrior of SeaClan." Cardinalsong glanced back at his former mentor, Carrotfur, and then to Leafstar, and nodded firmly. I'm ready, he told himself. The entire Clan parted ways, giving him room to pass through the crowd, and the ginger-and-white tom found himself striding forward confidently. I won't fail anyone, he promised silently, picking a spot where he had heard from another apprentice that Carrotfur himself had chosen as the place of his warrior vigil, and sat down. The sea was, from his point of view, just a massive swirl of stormy gray, as a storm began to brew over the unpredictable body of water. Sighing, Cardinalsong began to think to himself.

A well-muscled brown tabby tom made his way through the forest, uncertainty stamped on his otherwise-unreadable face. The tom heard a crack of twigs to the right of him, and crouched, ready to either leap at whoever it was, or flee if it was too much for him to handle. The brown-pelted tom sighed in relief when he realized it was probably just a squirrel or something in the distance, and continued on his way. That was, until he felt two smaller cats barrel into him, and a third clambering on his back. The tom shouted, struggling, "I mean no harm! Please!" The bodies lifted off of him, and the tom looked up to see the faces of three apprentice-aged cats staring back at him, fur fluffed in hostility and fear. From the back, an older tom's voice sounded, "What have you found, Campionpaw?" The ginger-colored tabby she-cat of the group shouted back, "A loner or rogue, trespassing on our territory!" The brown tabby tom's ears perked up at the Clan name. He slowly scrambled onto his paws and asked, "Your name reminds me of Clan. Are you a Clan cat?" Before the one called Campionpaw could reply, a sandy brown tabby tom, presumably her mentor, stepped into his sight. "Yes," the tom replied, "my name is Leafstar, of SeaClan, and you are on our territory." The brown tabby tom was relieved. "Good," he mewed, "at last." He took a deep breath and continued, "My name is Brackenfur, a warrior of DeerClan." As the cats around him (he noticed that there were two other warriors with Leafstar, so he assumed it was a border patrol) nodded, Brackenfur gulped. "Well, I was," he added quietly, "until it disbanded some time ago. We were scattered far and wide, and it took me many moons to find another Clan." The former DeerClan warrior bowed his head deeply to the sandy brown tabby tom and asked formally, "May I join your Clan please? I have been searching for another Clan to stay in, and it seems that StarClan has answered my prayers at last." A small smile came upon the leader of SeaClan as the sandy brown tabby tom meowed, "Welcome to SeaClan, Brackenfur. However," he added, causing the former DeerClan warrior to blink in confusion, "there is one request I must make." "Go on," Brackenfur replied; Leafstar continued, "as we already have a Bracken- in our Clan, in Brackenkit, I must ask you to be renamed in order to properly join us. Is that okay?"

Brackenfur's face fell. He wasn't expecting Leafstar's request. At all. "I..." he began hesitantly, taking a deep breath, "I suppose I..." He closed his mouth again and thought a bit more. Do I want to be called by something else? He questioned himself silently, am I that desperate to join a Clan? After trying to deny either of his questions for a few moments, the former DeerClan warrior finally sighed, meowing out loud, "All right, I'll take a different name." Leafstar gave a nodded and ordered an older-looking apprentice, "Swiftpaw, go inform the camp that Brackenfur of DeerClan came to join us." The black she-cat replied, "On it!" and ran quickly toward the mouth of the river, presumably to the SeaClan camp, wherever it was located. The sandy brown tabby tom then turned back to Brackenfur and meowed, "Come, follow us, we'll show you the way back the slow way." The brown tabby tom dipped his head gratefully and followed the rest of the patrol.

<Later in the day>
Leafstar
Leafstar swept his leaf-green gaze across the gathered cats below. 31 moons ago, and the old him would have never imagined this would happen to his Clan. We are 73 cats strong, he mused silently, and many of those are kits. That means our future is in safe paws. Shaking off his current thoughts for now, the sandy brown tabby tom meowed aloud, "Cats of SeaClan! We are gathered here to determine the entrance of Brackenfur, a former warrior of DeerClan, into our ranks. If any cat believes he is not fit to be welcomed in, please voice it now, or forever hold your peace." No cat spoke for the next several moments, and so, Leafstar declared, "The Clan has spoken! Brackenfur will be allowed to join!" Turning his gaze to the cave ceiling, toward the heavens, the SeaClan leader intoned solemnly, "I, Leafstar, leader of SeaClan, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down on this cat. He has expressed desires to join our Clan after having faced the demise of his old Clan, and I commend him to you in every turn." Taking a small pause to take breath, Leafstar continued, "Brackenfur, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to defend and protect SeaClan, even at the cost of your life?" "I do," the brown tabby tom replied almost immediately, determination in his eyes; Leafstar nodded and meowed, "Then, by the power of StarClan, I give you your new warrior name. From this day forth, you shall be known as Thunderstrike. StarClan honors your determination and loyalty to the code, and we welcome you as a full member of SeaClan." The newly-named Thunderstrike had a huge smile on his face as the cats of SeaClan began to cheer wildly as one, "THunderstrike! Thunderstrike! Thunderstrike!"

merryclan. a small, good-natured clan that lives in a winter wonderland. a group of cats that live in a year-long snowy forest, yet still have the strength to smile and survive in their harsh environment. their hearts, full of kindness and love, are beacons for cats wishing to find a loving community and a place to call home.

merryclanners are the jolliest cats around. they are known to be very friendly and cheerful cats, always ready to help cats in need. the clan is composed of open-minded individuals who will accept almost anyone into their clan. merryclanners are a large variety of colors and sizes, but most cats have fluffy coats to keep them warm.

merryclan's territory is composed of a boreal forest with a frozen lake at it's center as well as a river that runs through the woods. it also contains a chain of mountains and an old thunderpath that has been abandoned for years.

merryclan is generally well-liked by most clans but they are unfortunately not known by many because of the vast distance between them and other clans. it is a long journey from their camp to the gathering place, so merryclan sometimes decides not to attend.

Sootberry lay contented on the warm rock, basking in the sun as much as possible as the rain had been quite severe. Phantombelly had just come back from a patrol and she could almost hear the growling of his stomach. She laughed as he groaned in embarrassment. "I'll go grab a mouse for you."

He closed his eyes and purred as she gave him a lick on the cheek, standing up and dashing to the pile. She squeaked as she got hit in the side with a large ball of fur, it was oysterkit. He snapped his head up, "Sorry Sootberry! Otterkit is out to get me!"

"Well you better run fast then! Here she comes!" She chucked as they dashed about camp, racing and playing.

A throat cleared behind her, "Looks like how we used to be."

Screechpelt stood behind her, and Sootberry was quickly on the defensive, "Sure. Before you helped kill my father, and attempted to kill everyone I love."

Screechpelt sighed, "I was manipulated. I was young. I thought I was helping the clan."

"Yeah Right." Sootberry scoffed. "Sure. And I was manipulated into believing that you were a good sister. Oh how I was wrong."

"I'm serious!" She scowled and pushed her way around as Sootberry tried to push past her. "I was an apprentice. An impressionable apprentice! I had no idea!"

Sootberry scoffed, "You had no idea! No idea! Wow that is the most pathetic excuse I have ever heard in my entire life. Murder is murder. No matter if you were young!"

Screechpelt snapped at her, "It's true!"

She reached forward to shake some sense into her stubborn sister, but Sootberry snarled viciously, "Don't touch me!" She unsheathed her claws and swiped them down screechpelts shoulder. Screechpelt gasped in surprise and jumped forward to tackle sootberry her claws unsheathed, ready to draw blood. Before she could lay a hand on Sootberry, Pikeclaw was in between them and pushing Screechpelt away, while Phantombelly was pulling Sootberry away.

Whitherstar stalked forward, his voice angry with frustration, "This behavior!" He yelled, "Not acceptable! If you want to fight out your problems, become rogues. We don't do that in my clan!" He slapped his paw against the ground, making his statement final. "Camp gaurd, as punishment. Every night for the rest of the moon!"

"The sky!" Yelled Scorchscream as he noticed a hawk circling the group above as they patrolled the western, meadow border. All six cats looked up, and he could hear Rubypelt sigh. She had lost her mate, Turquoiseclaw to a hawk a long time ago. Scorchscream could barely remember his voice, but all he knew was that Turquoiseclaw would've been the greatest leader. Better than Salmonstar, although he had never told anybody he had said that.

The hawk slowly started to circle closer to the group, and all of a sudden it was rushing them. Rubypelt screamed, "Cover! Cover! Find Cover!" But even with all the directions, Wheatclaw, in all of her intelligence, froze. Rubypelt screamed at her, "Wheatclaw! Move!" She could see the hawk diving towards her, talons outstretched the catch the cat in its cold embrace. She ran as fast as she could and shoved Wheatclaw out of the way, taking the full force of the hawk. She felt her body lighten as she was pulled up into the air.

Gullwing screamed, Rubypelt was like an Aunt to him. In fact, she was like an aunt to everyone. He lept into the air as Rubypelts eyes met his, but she was too far away. Rubypelt felt the talons enclose on her chest, but her last thought was only of her mate, Turquoiseclaw, who she would be seeing soon.
