last night
a molly stalked through the forest, muscles rippling beneath her pelt. her eyes flickered across the landscape, landing on the silhouette of a tom. "it's about time," he hissed, clearly annoyed. "i thought i told you to come directly at moonhigh." the molly let out a sharp snort. "since when did i take orders from lost rogues?" she sat down, tail curled around her paws, a curt smile on her face. "we'll strike now." the tom mused, proceeding to glare at the other feline. he unsheathed his claws, twirling them around the molly's face. "come along, my little assassin."

the pair travelled back to camp, fireflies lighting the pitch black sky. the moontree glowed weakly, its iridescent leaves floating into the stream. sabra stood pacing at the base, wide awake. ever since the newcomers had settled in, he had been feeling uneasy and on edge, not getting any sleep. the chief froze as the sound of pawsteps became closer, but sighed in relief as a soft mew rang out in the darkness. "chief, what are you doing up?" concern laced the voice, the speaker shrouded in the darkness. "you should be speaking with starclan," they frowned, an edge to their tone. "this is your final life, is it not? your only life." sabra began to back up into the tree, his fur standing on edge. "show yourself." he snarled, fear racing through his mind. "you could've saved her. but, you did nothing. dandelionpaw is dead because of you." the other feline hissed, their eyes shining through the night. "no, s-she survived the fires, they told me she was healed." sabra stammered, old memories flooding back; him carrying dandelionpaw, writhing, out of the orange flames that consumed lilyclan, her beautiful face burned beyond recognition. "you are a murderer, sabra. murderers deserve to die." a second cat lunged at sabra, fury in their eyes. their claws flailed aimlessly, scraping down sabra's sides. defenseless, the chief struggled soundlessly, unable to speak, tears streaming down his eyes. he lay on the bloodstained grass, both attackers coming into focus. "...you'll reg-" the swiping of a claw across his throat silenced the chief.

the next morning
cats emerged from their dens like ants in a mound, eager to start the day. relaxed meows turned into silence as something appeared over the clearing. uneasy murmurs rippled through the clan, a wave of worry crashing down on them. nakia pushed past a group of trainees, a lump in her throat. a body lay unmoving at the roots of the moontree, the bloodstained pelt almost unrecognizable. grief overcame her and she let out a quiet sob as she realized who it was. “who is it?” jax stood at the front of the crowd, his ears twitching. nakia looked up, expressionless, slowly shaking her head. “nakia, who is it?” julius pushed past the young tom, glancing at nakia. she looked away, tears now streaming down her face. the serval bounded towards her, his face solemn.

what he saw shattered his heart.

sabra lay beside nakia, gashes everywhere on the tom. his eyes were closed, and signs of struggle were apparent. julius' mouth went dry, and a lump formed in his throat. he wanted sabra to wake up next to him, and have this all be a dream. sadness turned to guilt. julius could've been there to help him. it was his job to protect his mate.

The whole clan felt as if it stood still. Time had stopped and everyone, in their sorrow, had frozen. Mulleinflight, a cat who had done nothing but good, had died. Fallen in her kitting, she'd given the clan one amazingly strong, precious kit. Not one cry sounded stronger then that of Sagecloud, however. Her recent pain paired with that of losing a clanmate was tremendous. It was her that had dubbed this new kitten Mulleinkit in honor of her mother. So alike were the two in appearance that Sagecloud wouldn't rest until she was named after her ever gentle and wonderful mother. Mulleinkit had been given to Pebblegaze due to her own mother's absence and the fact that Pebblegaze's own kit, Whimbrelkit, was only one moon older. Pebblegaze accepted the new kit with open paws and many kisses.

Leopardpaw was still as absent as ever. Fawnpaw and Greypaw were worried and thus, their warrior ceremonies were held off. Maplepaw had an excuse - her torn up face still needed time to heal. Sure, Leopardpaw wouldn't return to her training but Maplepaw would... had. Leopardpaw seemed to hold a sort of resentment toward the she-cat.. he seemed to long to be in her paws and the two grew distant as the moon passed.

Ghosts swirled in his eyes again and Cannastar's body shivered as he saw a faint image of him creep out of his body before disappearing like a mirage in the hands of a nomad. ''Cannastar, you've lost curiosity.'' whispered Dusty, looking sad and as though he expected the ginger tom to feel the same. ''Well shoot, curiosity was my favourite life.'' replied Cannastar, tail twitching. ''Can I go back now? GoldClan's not doing too hot at the moment.'' The ginger tom's paws twitched impatiently and he watched as star-light and shadow crawled back into thin air, revealing glaringly hot sand and a clear blue sky.

''Finally, you're back.'' Vulturefang smiled thinly, proffering him the rat. ''I found this, did you catch anything?''

Regretfully, Cannastar shook his head. ''No, I was busy being dead.'' The ginger tom crawled slowly to the shade and sagged to the ground, laying under the watching gaze of Set, god of chaos and war. ''Do you guys think we're going to survive like this?'' He inquired, blinking slowly. ''Sharing every little scrap of prey that we can find?'' Cannastar frowned, tail twitching. ''I'm sorry but this just isn't going to work.''

Embergaze frowned, laying his herbs in a little bundle. ''What makes you say that?''

''The fact that I just died.'' Cannastar replied curtly. ''The fact that we're all dying slowly.''

Cannastar and Embergaze eat the rat; Vulturefang dies in her sleep.
They go hunting again.

oighir padded up to one of the tall oak trees, oíche was at his side. oighir had asked him if he wanted to go on a walk earlier that day. they both climbed up the tree and sat on the strongest branch they found. they sat beside each other watching the sunset.

"oíche." oighir muttered, his voice slightly shaky. oíche looked at him, purring. "i love you." he quickly muttered before putting his muzzle into oíche's fur. oíche purred, starting to lick his shoulder. "i love you too mousebrain.." he responded making them both chuckle.

Cardinalpaw scoffed, glancing back at the apprentice-aged loner beside him, "You? Fought off a fox by yourself? Hah!" Cliffpaw, who walked on the other side of the ginger cat, added, "You look like you couldn't scare off even a mouse!" Before the loner could retort, Carrotfur, SeaClan's deputy and Cardinalpaw's mentor, meowed sharply, "Now, boys, Campion here wants to join our Clan, all right? Show them some manners, please." Turning to the nonbinary ginger-and-white loner, the deputy meowed, "Our camp isn't too far, just up this path." "Whoa," Campion breathed, staring up at the narrow, curving path up the cliff, "that seems dangerous." "And a fox isn't?" Hollyspots asked, chuckling, "let's get you up, okay?" Thistletuft added, "I'll bring up the rear. Cardinalpaw, Cliffpaw, don't do anything silly or dangerous, all right?" "Right," the two apprentices replied at the same time; Cardinalpaw glanced at Campion and asked, "Hey, Campion, just trust in our ancestors to guide you up the path in safety, all right?" Cliffpaw nodded, adding, "Yeah! And also watch your pawsteps, just put your paws after another, okay?" The newcomer gave a shaky nod, though the nervous look was soon replaced by an obviously-fake 'courageous' face, as the loner followed after Carrotfur, Ivynose, and Hollyspots.

Carrotfur
Once he made sure that the apprentices and Campion were on the landing in front of their camp entrance safely, Carrotfur headed in first, meowing, "I'm going to go inform Leafstar of Campion's arrival. Meanwhile, Cardinalpaw, Cliffpaw, show them around the camp, will you?" The SeaClan apprentices looked at each other delightedly and replied loudly, "Yes, Carrotfur!" The two swept the ginger cat off their paws and rushed them into the apprentices' chamber. Ivynose chuckled, "They sure are excited." Carrotfur meowed, "Cardinalpaw's been adjusting to Clan life very well, and don't you think Cliffpaw's ready for a final assessment?" The brown-and-white tabby tom blinked for a moment before nodding briskly, "Ah, of course!" He spoke fondly about his half-brother, "Cliffpaw's been learning so well lately, you know. Mum and Dad will be really proud of him when he becomes a warrior." Carrotfur purred, "I bet! Dustflower and Shorefall were always asking you about how his progress was, right?" Ivynose nodded, lowering his voice, "Yeah, but I understand why, they were worried about Cliffpaw's health because Snakekit was stillborn and all." The ginger-and-white tabby tom nodded softly and mewed, "I'm going to go ahead and report on this patrol and Campion's arrival. You can go tell your parents the good news." Ivynose nodded, "Right, Carrotfur, I'll see you later." The brown-and-white tabby warrior took off into the warriors' chamber, knowing both had stayed behind to take a well-needed rest after an all-day hunting patrol the day before. Turning toward his father's chamber when Ivynose had disappeared, Carrotfur took a deep breath and padded into the dark tunnel. Even though he knew that Leafstar had made his peace with StarClan, the ginger-and-white tabby tom was still worried for him.

Leafstar
Hearing Carrotfur's meow, the SeaClan leader sat straight up in his nest. Gathering himself, the sandy brown tabby called, "Come in!" Leafstar looked Carrotfur up and down before asking, "I'm guessing there was no sign of the fox?" His deputy nodded, "No sign at all, Leafstar. However," he added hesitantly; Leafstar tensed, interrupting him, "What is it?" The ginger-and-white deputy shook his head and added hastily, "It's not something bad. There was a cat who joined, one who called themself 'Campion'. An apprentice-aged loner," he added, "and they begged us to bring them to our camp, saying they wanted to join us." "Campion," Leafstar repeated, "how are they like?" Carrotfur explained, sounding a bit embarrassed, "Ah... see, Campion's full of himself, somewhat, almost like I was when I was first apprenticed." Chuckling heartily, Leafstar meowed, a merry twinkle in his eyes, "If they are anything like you were, whoever we give him to will have their paws full for a while." Carrotfur spluttered, "Dad, you aren't helping!" The sandy brown tabby tom purred, "Just teasing you, son." Becoming serious again, Leafstar asked, "Who is best suited to mentor him right now?" "Shorefall," Carrotfur suggested, "he's a calm, level-headed warrior who's had plenty of mentoring experiences." Leafstar nodded thoughtfully, "I thought so too, but I want him to mentor one of the kits who will be apprenticed next moon, actually." Carrotfur replied, "Ah, yes, that's a good idea then." Thinking a bit more, the ginger-and-white tabby tom suggested quietly, "Sagefrost?" Leafstar looked at his son for a few moments, before allowing, "She is overdue for her first apprentice, I'll give it to you. And she's had plenty of chances to show us that she's not going back to her old days with Stormfang." "And she hasn't failed us in them," Carrotfur pointed out, "we should trust her, and give her a chance." Leafstar nodded slowly, "All right, she's given her all to show to the Clan that she is a loyal SeaClan cat. We should trust her to mentor an apprentice." "She will have the older warriors at her disposal to ask questions too," Carrotfur meowed; Leafstar nodded, "Good idea. Thank you for helping me choose a mentor for Campion then," he added, "you've grown so much since all those moons ago, Carrotfur. I made the right decision when I made you my deputy." Touched, his son dipped his head, meowing, "I... I don't know what I did to deserve this, but thank you, Leafstar. I won't let you down."

<Later that day>
Leafstar leapt up to the Meeting Ledge and yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey meet here, underneath the Meeting Ledge, for a Clan meeting!" The camp came to life as excited apprentices bowled over each other to get the better spots under the Meeting Ledge, to see their new friend Campion get apprenticed. The ginger-and-white loner themself, however, was slowly coming over, their ears perked up in full alertness. The warriors of SeaClan came out next, their eyes soon traveling over to the new face. Smiling and mewing soft 'hello!'s, the SeaClan cats took their spots. Even Softdawn, the resident permaqueen, and Rippleheart, who trusted the other queens in the nursery to watch over her six kits, had come out to watch. When, at last, Sagefrost came from fetching Honeytuft some wet moss from near the river, Leafstar spoke, "Cats of SeaClan!" The sandy brown tabby tom swept his leaf-green gaze over his Clan before continuing, "This moon, we have been blessed by our ancestors yet again! Campion, an apprentice-aged loner, has come to us wishing to join us as an apprentice." The Clan's gaze traveled over to where Campion was sitting, next to Swiftpaw and Cardinalpaw, "And although I know what your answers will be, tradition states the leader ask for the Clan to decide a newcomer's fate. And so," he concluded, "do you welcome Campion to SeaClan?" The affirmative reply was led enthusiastically by the apprentices, who roared, "We do!" Leafstar smiled brightly at the response, and meowed, "The cats of SeaClan have spoken: Campion may join us as an apprentice!" Cheers rang out from the crowd as Leafstar waited patiently for them to die down. When they did, eventually, the SeaClan leader meowed, "From this day forth, until you have received your warrior name, you shall be known as Campionpaw." Taking a deep breath, Leafstar turned his gaze toward a certain black-and-white she-cat sitting at the edge of the crowd, and meowed, "Sagefrost will be your mentor." All eyes traveled to where Sagefrost was sitting, and a collective gasp came from the older apprentices. The mentioned black-and-white she-cat stood up, incredulity on her face, and asked, "M... Me, Leafstar?" She looked around her, bewildered, before adding, "W... wouldn't there be another cat more suited for that than I am?" Leafstar shook his head firmly, "No, Sagefrost. You have persevered to come out from under Stormfang's shadow, and succeeded. Today marks the last day of your in-Clan punishment. You may return to your warrior duties, and, in recognition of your tireless efforts to atone for your wrongdoings, and for earning back the trust of your Clanmates, I have decided that you are the perfect match for feisty Campionpaw here." There was a small moment of silence before Sagefrost came forward shakily. Campionpaw looked curiously at her, perhaps wanting to know what had happened; the black-and-white she-cat mewed softly, just barely enough for Leafstar to hear from his high perch, "I'll tell you later, I promise. Touch noses with me please." The ginger-and-white apprentice did as told, and went to sit together with their mentor, once the cheers died down. Leafstar smiled, meowing, "I know that you will pass down all you know to them." Sagefrost nodded, determination showing in her eyes, "I will, Leafstar."

The island ruins had grown lazy in the last moon; since Elroy had joined their ranks and Moose had proven herself and joined the Moon Court, little had happened. Algernon lounged atop his great pile of debris, on his side stretched across bits of rock while his tail twitched a lazy rhythm against its surface. Power had made him comfortable - calling back to the brawl for Half Moon, a cold smile curled across his maw. He'd egged on a sibling rivalry beyond its limits and brought out their claws. It brought a warm feeling into his belly thinking about it, even a moon or so later. If power had made him comfortable, it had made Moose sharp. The talkative molly had grown snappish with her brother since their duel, sneering his way when he caught her eye; he'd even seen her go so far as to withhold prey for a day or so, testing her authority. So long as the tom survived for Algernon's own benefit, he didnt particularly care what Moose pulled.

"Elroy! Moose!" He yawned, raising his voice enough to carry it across the camp as he slowly rolled to his paws and leaping to the ground. The spotted pelt of Moose appeared almost immediately, sliding out of a cluster of reeds, eyes bright and attentive. Elroy's brilliant ginger pelt materialized at his side next, blinking drowsiness from her eyes and pulling her shoulders back into a ready stance. Good. "I want to test you as my ony current Warden, Elroy." Algernon meowed, watching pleasantly as understanding flickered across her green gaze. "Moose and I will go with you, to see how well you pick up subtleties on our borders. Scatteredscales brought you to us, as she sent all of us, so I have high hopes for your performance. Once we've evaluated your abilities and determined you fit to be my seeker of information, you and Moose will hunt. Understood?" The ginger molly responded with a curt nod, while Moose's maw curled into a grin. "Yes sir!"

Justice will come on swift wings, none shall ever escape

For a long time, they sat in a mangled circle and stared at Fritillarystar. ''She's dead, isn't she?'' murmured Smallwhisker, her voice hoarse as though the medicine cat had not spoken for eons. ''Nothing we can do about that.'' The tortoiseshell crouched beside the old leader, watching as the lonely butterfly took off and lilted through the air. ''Who's gonna be leader now?'' Smallwhisker inquired, looking around. ''Is there anyone here who's not guilty of something, who's not incompetent?'' Her eyes flashed as there was no response, but the bowing of heads and shuffling of paws. ''Lost your voices have you?'' She sighed.

Vervainthroat was the first to speak up, barging his way to the front. ''Not me!'' He crowed, challenge brimming in his angry and indignant voice. ''I have not lost my voice, Smallwhisker and I never will.'' The Siamese peered around, ignoring Smallwhisker's scoff and smirking. ''Seeing as there's nobody who's willing to step up, I will.'' Vervainthroat walked up to Fritillarystar's body and sat before it. ''I will be the new leader.''

''Oh joy, you can talk.'' muttered Smallwhisker, dragging Vervainthroat away. ''You're not going to be leader, Vervainthroat.'' She chided. ''You're far too young and the last thing we need is a power-hungry leader, we need someone calm and wise.'' Smallwhisker sighed and wandered back to Fritillarystar's body, glancing up at the mighty oak. ''This is Fritillary's Oak, and we're not to go there.''

Trouttail looked confused and spoke up. ''Why not?'' She murmured, blinking slowly. ''This is where we meet StarClan and in these dire times, we need them more than ever.'' Turning to her clanmates, the tabby drew up a look of unyielding determination. ''It may look like they've forsaken us, but we need them more than ever!'' Trouttail raised her chin. ''This is the Lightning Oak and we need StarClan to guide us!''

Of all voices that could've spoken up, nobody expected it to be Firepool. ''StarClan's not there.'' The ginger molly sighed, curling her tail thoughtfully. ''We're done with them, Trouttail.'' She smiled sadly, ears twitching. ''StarClan vanished a long time ago, the moors are coated with blood and they want nothing to do it, they won't take responsibility for all the lives they've clumsily lost.'' Firepool bowed her head respectfully. ''But enough of StarClan, we need to focus on MoorClan first.''

There was a soft and quiet murmur of agreement, the MoorClan cats nodding and tired; many of them just wanted to go to sleep, wake up and pretend that this had all just been a terrible nightmare. ''Dawnpool was the deputy before Snailstep, she should be leader.'' pointed out Beechstripe, motioning to the blind she-cat. ''I think she'd be a decent leader.'' The tabby smiled at her, unaware of Dawnpool's discomfort.

''I became deputy out of greed.'' Dawnpool replied, shaking her head. ''I was just as power-hungry as Swanstar and Vervainthroat.'' Looking around, Dawnpool met eyes with Smallwhisker. ''And you said it was the last thing MoorClan would need, so I guess I am that last thing the clan needs at the moment.'' And with that, Dawnpool stepped backwards into the crowd and took her place in the clan; as an insignificant, unimportant warrior.

''What about Hazelstone?'' ''Too young.''

''Yarrowshine?'' ''A stranger.''

''Lizardpath?'' ''Too cowardly.''

''Maybe Garlicflower?'' suggested Yarrowshine, turning to the kindly warrior. ''She's stuck by Fritillarystar and as far as I know, she's been one of the kindest cats around here.'' The large-eared prophet looked around, spotting the molly crouched beside Antfoot and Linnettail. ''I'm not particularly close to her, but I feel as though we need kindness more than ever, we need mercy and peace.'' The oriental looked around for disagreement, but astonishingly Yarrowshine found none. It appeared that her suspicions were right and Garlicflower was really who they needed.

''Me?'' The white cat looked around, suddenly uneasy. ''Leader?''

A single lonely butterfly answered her, fluttering over to her and coming to rest on her forehead; the butterfly was a fritillary, bright and beautiful. For a long time, it sat and slowly there was no doubt as though the butterfly were whispering comfort and secrets to the new leader.

''...Very well.'' sighed Garlicflower, standing up. ''I'll be the leader you need.'' Looking around, Garlicflower smiled weakly. ''But I don't want to be seen as better than you, I want to be seen as though I stand beside you as an equal comrade.'' Garlicflower sighed and looked up at the mighty, charred tree. ''I think we've had quite enough of cats seeing themselves as superior or fate-changing.''

Smallwhisker smiled, pleased with Garlicflower's wisely chosen words. ''What about a deputy, Garlicstar?'' The tortoiseshell looked around, ears twitching. ''It does no good to blunder into the future unprepared.'' Smallwhisker pointed out quietly, searching the watching crowds. ''...Briarcloud.''

Garlicstar nodded in agreement, taking on her new title with quiet acceptance. ''Someone did mention that he was a leader at some point.'' She smiled at the fluffy tom, greeting him with a purr. ''I don't think I've seen another so loyal and peaceful as you, Briarcloud.'' Garlicstar turned to the rest of the clan. ''I do hope you share the same sentiment as I.''

Weather - Green-Leaf
Summer. Summer starts with little warning.
One day, intense rain falls cover the clans' lands, and the
next, the sun blazes down on them instead.
The sudden brightness quickly dries up the puddles and
flooding that many clans have encountered, but the extent
of them means some floods can still be found.
Additionally, the sudden brilliant heat means that forest
fires are beginning to break out among the hotter clans.
Of course, some days are still colder than others, but for
most, the sun is certainly proving its fiery reputation.
Prey can feel the heat too, and fortunately, most clans
send out their patrols in mornings and evenings, the only
time that the prey can bear during the day.
Some mothers might be exhausted by the heat, but certainly
their kittings should still be faring well for a while.

I have not forgotten to do Seaclan's reply, but that reply will take a lot longer, especially if there are lots of posts to respond to in the meantime before I'm done. I thought it was unfair to make everyone else wait for possibly up to a week for me to be done when no other clan has the specific reason that is going to cause this delay at the moment.
I have informed winter of what I'm doing, so this really isn't me just avoiding doing replies.
I am going to get that reply up as fast as I can reasonably manage, regardless of whether I have other replies to do alongside it at the time when I finish it. I might do other things in the meantime, so me posting elsewhere isn't me avoiding it, it's me taking earned breaks from this.

Weather:

The storm that threatened at the end of new leaf seems to have never made it to the clans territory. Pools of water are starting to shrink in the hot weather and an oncoming drought might be upon the clans. Prey has started to hide in this heat and wont be as abundant with the weather changing but this means that predators are starting to become more active.

Bloomseed seems to be on the mend now, all she needs is a few moons of rest. (3 moons)

Bramblestep, Mousewish, Brightpaw and Stormpetal ran into a potential warrior. Their pelt was mixed with the badgers scent and they tell the patrol that they went through great loss because of the beast and told them that they had killed the badger. They also ask the patrol to help find their kits as they ran away during the battle.
