weather: green-leaf has arrived! with the changing of the season, prey is flourishing, their full bellies making them lazy and easy to catch. the sun beats down relentlessly, though, and cats must be wary of heat-related ailments, and being near water is sure to help them make it through the season. rogues and loners are hunting freely, and, with convincing, some may be willing to join the clan, though there are just as many unfriendly cats who would prefer to pick a fight. kittings run smoothly, and the risk of illness is lowered.

Season: Leaf-fall
Weather Report: The warm weather has begun to fade and the leaves have begun to change. With colder weather comes less prey during hunting, but the clan will come across more cats seeking shelter from the cold. Kitting will be a lot more difficult as well, so make sure to stock up on kitting herbs.

xxxxThe warriors returned to camp essentially at a run. Some bright spark Lionpaw had decided that racing back to camp was a great idea, and so they did.

owmyBugleclaw was having to struggle to keep up with all of them, given how quickly they were travelling, and that he was no longer at his peak of fitness. Or rather, he was struggling to keep up with most of them. Ospreypaw was lagging due to constantly pausing to check for any signs of danger – Clarystorm had really rubbed off on her – Mosquitopaw was staying close to her father, as she was meant to, and Saffronpaw was staying close to his cautious sister.

beigThey arrived back at camp after not too long – thankfully the apprentices slowed quickly, having exhausted themselves by sprinting – with the apprentices still in front.

xxxxThere was a slight gasp, and then a mild chuckle from about the same place, and then an older voice, similar enough that it might well have been Heronstar herself, spoke.
.I kn"Good job spotting him, Elmfang.” – Elmfang? But… - “I dread to think how traumatic that must have been for him to have not gone to look for anyone else yet.”
owthMyrtleclaw’s eyes opened again despite the images burned into his mind, and quickly flicked over to where the voices had come from. OH-

eyouOh. Oh. Oh. Oh.
’llpoHe--- he was dead?
wereNo, he… he had to be. He’d remember that face anywhere. Boulderdash’s anguish at the loss of her kit had been too much to bear, and had he not remembered that- what sort of friend would he be? What sort of father would he be? Except… he’d never been this kit’s father.
ndowWell. He had to be in Starclan now, didn’t he? That meant he’d be meeting Sealkit again soon, and Saddlekit too. That thinking didn’t really do much for the sickening feeling in his stomach, like someone had shoved something long and spikey in there and was twisting his organs around it. The feeling of knowing death is coming and there’s no way to avoid it, but ramped up a hundred fold.
WillMyrtleclaw took in a deep breath, and then slowly pushed himself to his paws, and till he was standing, only to be slammed into by a small ball of grey fur – a ball of grey fur with enough momentum to push him back a step.
lead"Myrtleclaw! Dad!” Huh? He’d… never been able to interact with Elmkit before, how come she was… so… enthusiastic about him? Myrtleclaw was painfully aware of the eyes of a larger molly fixed on him. “I- I know Harrierpelt was my dad, but you were my siblings’ dad, and that makes you my dad too!” Huh? “You may have lied to the whole clan, and I know I should discourage that, but you always had the clan’s best interests at heart, and you were a great father. I wish I could have had both you and Betonycloud as my parents.”
areiMyrtleclaw had the feeling there was something more important to ask about, but he couldn’t quite place his paw on what it was…
gnmoWell, surely he’d remember it later? Meeting his daughter for the first time seemed more important right now.
stbrAs did anything he could to get the images burned into his eyes removed.

AndwOf course, of course, they were newborn.
hatsBut Nettleflower couldn’t help staring at how tiny they were. Such tiny ears, and such tiny feet, and tails!
houlAround her, the kits’ grandparents and Harrierpelt were talking, but Shellcloud’s head was resting on her side, and his eyes followed hers to. There was no need to check what was being said right now. Nothing they were saying could matter so much. Although – Myrtleclaw was still missing and it had already been days since he had gone! How was it taking this long for him?!
dwasEven if it looked a lot like Shellcloud was entirely enraptured with the talk the one time that Nettleflower glanced back to check the direction of his ears. Well, it didn’t matter, she knew he was admiring the precious new kits for the clan.
hthoAfter what felt altogether too long, the older generation left the new parents alone – Harrierpelt reassuring them both that the medicine den was right beside the nursery, and that if anything was wrong, they could fetch him at a moment’s notice (did every new mother get that same advice?).
sewhShellcloud gently lifted himself away from Nettleflower, so that she could see him, and sat squarely upright. Nettleflower copied the position, as much as she hated having to move her side away from her kits. But she wouldn’t be able to communicate unless she did – with one paw, she pulled her kits back in close to her side.
iske"What are we going to call them then?”
rsnoNettleflower twitched her head to one side, trying to say something as close as she could to what she wanted to, but unfortunately they were missing the words yet – "Brain – joke - bird”.
w,BuShellcloud twitched his head in puzzlement. "What in silverpelt do you mean?”
tacrNettleflower rolled her eyes slightly. "You would be white – water – rock. Dad said he wanted one of our kits to be called it, and I know it was… a joke but I…” Nettleflower took a deep breath. "I don’t think he’s coming back.”
eekfShellcloud shook his head. "That’s ridiculous.”
ull,f"Sparrowfoot said it first, and you know how she is with knowing things like that. She told me straight after Heronstar said not to tell me. Sisters and all.”
reshShellcloud’s face visibly fell. He wasn’t one to show much of his emotions at all, but his sad realisation of what Nettleflower meant had happened to him was obvious on his face.
andt"Oh. Myrtleclaw suggested the name?” Nettleflower nodded. "Well, we’ll have to work it out then. Something to do with brains and jokes? Humour? Whimsy?” Nettleflower shook her head. ”Jovial? Jocular? Farce? Laugh? Witty?”
aste"Shorter than the last!”
ful? "Wit?” Nettleflower nodded her head quickly. "That’s a bird?” Nettleflower nodded again. "Oh, well? Which… one?” Nettleflower pointed at the grey kit with one paw. "I… feel like I should check that that’s a real thing.” Nettleflower tutted – admittedly in their signs, not verbally, but it was a very obvious tut to anyone who knew how she communicated, and unmistakably so obvious that there was no possible way that it wasn't done jokingly.
xxxx"If you’re going to be asking others anyway, you could do that for the other, too. If we’re going for something unique with one, it makes sense for both.” Shellcloud smiled gently at his mate’s suggestion. "I’ll be fine for the few minutes it takes for you to ask, go on!” Shellcloud got up and walked out, moving away even as Nettleflower curled back around her newborns in the nest.

TheonIt was hard to explain exactly how the Starclan cats knew what was happening, and what would happen. It wasn’t like seeing in the normal sense. It was more just an awareness of what would happen. And… not every cat even had it. Apparently, even among those that did it differed.
eyouCertainly, Elmkit – no, Elmfang, as she called herself – seemed surprised at what Myrtleclaw had to say. Betonycloud had, too. It had turned out that Betonycloud had functionally been Elmfang’s mother. It was strange, but she seemed a good mother, which he couldn’t express how glad he was of.
pick"They’ll never listen to you.” Had been the first thing Betonycloud said. “Very few warnings get through. No matter what we try, they only ever get the vaguest hints of what we mean. Only a tiny proportion of our messages get through – and even then only to cats who really try to find them. Even then, half the messages the clans “receive” are the results of a corrupt cat.” Betonycloud shook her head. “You’ll never be able to communicate it clearly.”
inst"I need to tell them.”
ruct"I never said you shouldn’t. But it won’t work. They won’t hear you. You need to be prepared to keep trying, over and over again, and even then, they might not get it.”
tsyoMyrtleclaw took in a deep breath.
urki"Alright. As soon as I work out how to send omens, I’ll warn them. And I’ll keep warning them, until they get it. Making sure they know the danger is my top priority.”

IsweThe apprentices sat in anticipation, wondering how many of them were going to become warriors now. There was nothing else that this meeting could be about – most of the clan had already met the kits (under careful supervision of at least one watchful new grandma), and there wouldn’t have been the delay needed to form a clan meeting if Myrtleclaw had been found.
arthMosquitopaw had sat herself next to Saffronpaw. Despite frequently disagreeing with each other, they’d formed a sort of bond between themselves, as the most similar members of their respective litters to each other.
eothMosquitopaw caught Noctulepaw wiggling her brows at the two of them as they sat down, and rolled her eyes generously in return. No, just no. It wasn’t Mosquitopaw’s fault he seemed to be the only other proper critical thinker around her age.
eronIt was hardly a surprise as Troutpaw was called up first. She was the oldest apprentice. Mosquitopaw smiled slightly at Saffronpaw as he pulled a sceptical look at her brothers’ expressions of surprise.
e’sbeAnd up went her sister- of course Pheasantpaw became Pheasantcloud, she was so soft in the heart. And then Camberpaw, the fastest runner in their cohort of apprentices. And Lobsterpaw who prided himself in his fighting and had done since he was a kit…
nignMoquitopaw shot a look of joking superiority at her friend.
-The"See, Heronstar values my maturity more than yours. She clearly agrees with my views on things more than yours. Why else would I be becoming a warrior first?” Mosquitopaw whispered in a low pitch and volume.
succ"Because you’re older, and Heronstar values us all being taught an equal amount. I’m betting I’ll be a warrior next moon at least.”
ess"Pah, no. She clearly doesn’t care about us becoming warriors according to our ages, or Troutp- Troutstripe would have become a warrior a moon ago. And besides, you barely understand the basi-”

rwhoMosquitopaw puffed out her chest very slightly.

rYou"Keep telling yourself that, miss-I’m-not-a-kit,-I-don’t-need-honour,-or-parents-to-tell-me-I-do.”
’llse Mosquitopaw was already walking away, but she shot a look of venom back at him.
e,driHer new suffix was sufficiently predictable that Saffronpaw had to catch himself tutting (which Chubtail for one noticed across the meeting space). Of course she had a skill name, she’d never settle for being dubbed for less than that if Heronstar had consulted her, and Mosquitopaw was definitely the sort to ask in advance of her ceremony. And fighting was hardly her style… Mosquitowhisker would know exactly what she saw as most important and of course focus most on that during her warrior appraisal.
nksbIt might not be the most obvious fit at face value, but to Saffronpaw, it made a lot of sense. As did the mild smug look that she shot at him. Saffronpaw rolled his eyes again.

loodSleep had not been a safe retreat from her worries for many moons now. Heronstar’s dreams had been plagued nigh daily for far longer than she cared to recall accurately.

nine.Heronstar’s eyes snapped open. And in that moment, she realised something. She’d been hearing those voices in her waking, too.

"Attention CosmoClan! We have found this rouge wanting to speak with our leader!" The white tom who had clawed the rouge's muzzle yowled triumphantly.
"Stop it, Scar-neck." the rouge growled, thinking of insults.
"You entered our territory, flea bitten thief." the tom hissed dangerously, flashing his claws. The second white tom with the black markings on his face, paws and tail, dug his claws into the tresspasser's back, but merely caught a pawful of fluff as the prisoner whipped round, not yowling about the clump of fur and instead lashing his tail viciously, whipping the second tom's muzzle. The dappled She-cat with the tortoiseshell pelt nervously pinned the rouge's tail with an unsheathed paw.

"What is going on?" that familiar annoying voice coldly meowed. He had heard a lot about her from a few birdies here and there.
"Lyrastar... Isn't it now Lyrastar? Or Lyrawing, yet it seems you lead these cats." the rouge purred slyly, amber eyes masking emotion apart from a glint of malice.
"Rouge, what is your name? And how might you know me? I didn't think my name reached rat's nests, judging by your pelt." Lyrastar smiled, surprise still at the edges of her steel gaze.
From the Guardian den an "Oh she didn't!" could be heard from their Solar Guardian.
The loner blurted out the first words to mind. "It's a rouge camp actually. Traitor's daughter!" he said. Unwisely.
"You look like a monster." Lyrastar huffed. "And Lunarwhisker was never a traitor!" The tresspasser's smirk was wider. "She betrayed her mate, Solarnose!" he retorted, to Lyrastar's horror. "Your going to say Lunarwhisker wasn't a traitor, huh? She ran away with your rouge father and became a kittypet. As her apprentice she affected me, and most of the others. You are of rouge blood just like every cat here, apart from the new warrior, the oldest apprentice, your Lunar Guardian, the kits and his mate. Skystar was once on our side, and it seems he's still a traitor." The tom purred triumphantly at the immediate effect he had.
"N-no!"
Then Lyrastar dived at him, solemn growls escaping her throat and blank, haunted looks crossing her face.
Shocked looks crossed her clanmates's faces. Swiftsky charged into the fight, slicing at the rouge's already scarred muzzle. Yet as he tried to fight the rouge easily grabbed the white tom's paw and launched it at Lyrastar's neck. Silence fell.

Lyrastar lost a life. As the news crashed down on her so did the dim light of three kinds of stars. Some unknown she-cat from the stars (stinking of the mountains like the leader's brother) appeared. Her brother had known about it, he ran away too while Lyrawing had not ever known. As memories raced through her head, the empty words damaged her and the faint murmurs from her clanmates gushed through her ears. Skystar is merely a traitor to his heart. You need to get up! Without the Lyra's wing, The Owl will never find her calling and the Sky shall fall prey to his heart. Lionscorch needs your guidance to become a good cat. Stay strong.

Swiftsky backed away in horror as his leader twitched, eyes gaining their intelligence as she returned from the life losing trance. He was a traitor, to his clan and the rouges. Doing a Lunarwhisker and running from the rouges was what he had done as the loner Sky. He had abandoned his clan at their greatest time of need and Skystar became Swiftsky. As Swiftsky he fell in love with a She-cat in another clan and right now his only son was an apprentice. He should have never listen to what his heart told him, he thought, fur bristling with fear and anger.

"Take my clan to the rouges, Lionscorch. Don't try anything funny." a shaky response came from the leader, eyes narrowed.
"How do you-" Lionscorch began. He was clearly itching for a fight.
"Lion-" Emberblaze started.
"Lead the way, you discusting rat. You left your clan when it needed every paw. Skystar -Swiftsky- tried. The twolegs aren't his fault." the shy Amberowl growled, courage at last showing before she ducked her head under his intimidating stare. Blossomfur appeared from the nursery, Speckledkit and Flamekit trailing after her.
"I'll ask someone to guard the camp for you when you are gone. Would you like to get Solarspark for your injuries? Oh wait they do that healing thing don't they?" Blossomfur asked, authority in her stance and sympathy in her eyes.
Lyrastar mewed, "Yes. Now let's find these rouges and get them to reason with us. Ratty here can lead the way." she said sharply. "Solarspark and Emberblaze, thank you for your concern, but I'm sure that I'm fine. Organise the tracking patrols. Badger, you can come. We will test your warrior skills. I shall lead one patrol and you two Guardians can lead the other. Take Badger with you, no other apprentices." the leader ordered.

"Lionscorch, thanks for that. I've always want to see who could be such a mouse-brain, especially if you actually want to be in a clan again. You can join us for now, ratty, I'd you don't try to attack me after we meet these rouge friends of yours." Lyrastar muttered to the tom. StarColony, StarClan and some mountain tribe wanted her to do this. She wouldn't let them down even if she wanted to ignore him, and her heart didn't want to either. Her heart wanted him to become loyal, and maybe something more to her. As her eyes met his curious ones she rethought ignoring him entirely.
Lionscorch nodded. The only thing he didn't get was the way his heart began to beat faster as his eyes met her mistrustful ones. Admiration somehow made it to his brain as she continued to work harder and for a moment he wondered if he had too much sunlight had gotten to his head, before pity of the determined she-cat made him shake his head smugly.

A moon had passed and Lionfang was still unsure how he would get Kuru to join the clan with out the other tom's sister finding it out. The large orange tom sat in his usual spot, his head in the clouds. He was so lost in thought he didn't hear Cherryshine speak.

Cherryshine and her patrol last moon had escaped from a fox, but now the clan had to figure a way to drive it off the territory. Noticing Lionfang unusually lost in thought that day the dark orange tabby padded over and meowed "Hello." upon no signs of hearing her the older she-cat gently swatted at the large tom. The sudden touch caused the tom to snap back to reality, his eyes landing on Cherryshine. "Oh good to see your back with us." she purred, a smile on her face.

"Sorry Cherryshine.... I'v been trying to think of way to smuggle that rogue Kuru into our clan with out his sister finding out. Although a rogue he seems very willing to join. I have already talked to Hazestar about it and he's accepting of this." Lionfang explained. He wasn't much of a talker, but he had grown close to Cherryshine and her kits over the moons.

Listening to the tom speak, the she-cat quickly perked up. "Remember that fox we came across last moon? Well since the patrol was so small we didn't risk it and got away. It's still hanging around. Maybe you fake his death with the fox and drive the fox towards the rogues. It'll get the fox off our territory and cause the rogues to move away. They would have no choice but to accept the fact that they lost Kuru to the fox." Cherryshine babbled. Her eyes glittered with excitement, happy to have helped out her best friend.

Swivelspear had been going mad with the riddle, determined to gain new members for HazeClan. How could she let a loner crawl under her skin like the one did. However she had been thinking it over for some time and decided she would start with the streams. Something about the abandoned house just seem to obvious. Knowing a few of of the younger cats might be up for cat hunting Swivelspear quickly got a party around before heading.

Along side her padded Windsong, a she-cat just a few moons older then her. Windsong was there when the loner confronted Swivelspear and had grown curious as well. "So why are you so dead set on this Swivelspear? Out of most of us here your very hot headed and normally don't hesitate to lash out." she teased. In return Swivelspear shot the other she-cat a glare before letting out a small chuckle.

"You know something about that other tom, the shyer one of the two just made me want to find him. He didn't seem to be to keen on the other tom being so friendly." Swivelspear explained.

Swandust's heart ached. She felt as if her paws were dragging through the ocean's heavy tide.. her pelt was sinking, her lungs were struggling - what had she done? Two of her kits were no longer her's.. they were.. his. Fotam, what a name. That tom who'd won her fragile little heart over so quickly. She should be angry with herself! Acting like a love-struck little apprentice... instead, she was so struck. Swandust had to admit that she was happy at least a few of her kits would know their father, even if it meant they'd have no recollection of who she was. With a deep breath the she-cat trudged onwards, pulling her head away from her chest. Her own clan couldn't see this - she wasn't weak, she was strong. She had to be strong.

The dual colored she-cat entered camp and was immediately greeted with a familiar, thick grey pelt. Stormjaw stood at the camp entrance and jumped a little when he finally saw Swandust, "There you are! Your kits are going crazy searching for you. Sagecloud and Lyrasong are doing their best to keep them sated but nothing works quiet like the smell of their own mother." the tom purred lightly as he brushed his tail over Swandust's back. The she-cat held in her snarl - was he being.. affectionate?! Swandust laughed lightly, avoiding the tom's gaze, "Uh.. Thanks, Stormjaw.. I'll go tend to them now." Stormjaw kept pace with her and he cut her off from the nursery entrance, "Swandust, look." The tom swallowed hard, tail flickering nervously behind him, "I'll be here for you.. okay?" The she-cat's head recoiled before she nodded, "I.. appreciate that.. Stormjaw." she slipped past the tom without another word, settling in with her kits with a gentle sigh.

Mulleinflight padded carefully up to the medicine cat's den, "Re-Redthorn?" she mumbled obviously nervous. The red tom trotted out with a smile, "Mulleinflight! What a pleasure." The she-cat's gaze clouded and she glanced back and forth. The tom tilted his head, "Is everything okay?" Mulleinflight pulled her ears back and shrugged lightly, "I'm not sure. I just can't stop thinking about you.." she whispered. Redthorn's eyes widened in a mixture of shock and terror. He gulped and moved away, "Mulleinflight.. I'll.. I'll talk to you about this some other time.."

The clan watched as Batstar was about to give Mousepaw her name. "You have passed your final assessment and have returned from the Glowingsky. It is my honor to recognize a new hunter in ShrikeClan. Mousepaw, the clan wishes you may moons of successful hunts. From now on, you will be called Mousefeather for your silent and caring nature." The clan cheered the new she cat's name. Mousefeather was beaming in pride. Her gaze shifted to Harepaw who also was beaming in pride. Mousefeather grinned and nuzzled the leader before racing down to her friends. She nuzzled Harepaw and the other three. "Told you that you could do it! I'm so proud of you!" Harepaw purred out. "You're getting your final assessment soon right? Can't wait to actually hang out with you more without all these rules!" Mousefeather chuckled. "We exist too!" Shadepaw meowed out. Graypaw nodded before pulling out a flower from behind his back. "I also got this for you. For the occasion. You're a friend after all." He mumbled out. Mousefeather's eyes widened and she took the flower. "I love it! Thank you Graypaw!" She squealed. Graypaw nodded before he looked at Lionpaw and meowed, "Hey shouldn't you be on your way?" Lionpaw jumped to his paws when remembering. He nodded and waved goodbye to the group and dashed off through the tunnel that lead to the Glowingsky. The group disbanded but Graypaw just had to say something to Harepaw, "Harepaw, I bet that you're going to do sooo well on your assessment. Don't mess it up. It's not like you will... maybe you might." He meowed in a sarcastic tone and padded off after Shadepaw leaving Harepaw hurt and anxious.

"You saw him right? The kit from our patrol! Should we go get it?" Badgersnarl asked Ivystone. "I'd say so. Even if it's just a kit it will help the clan in the future. If I'm right, either rank will help of course. Come on." Ivystone rambled before she raced out of camp. The she cat emerged from the ground with Badgersnarl behind her. "It was this way. Follow me." the tom meowed suddenly taking the way. The two cats then dashed off to find the kit they had seen from earlier.

Weaseltuft raced out of the medicine cat's den and over to Foxblaze. "Fox I... I have good news! News about why I am feeling so off lately!" Foxblaze looked over as his attention was picked up quickly. "What is it?" Weaseltuft took a few deep breaths and purred out, "I'm pregnant with your kits!" Foxblaze screamed in delight and nuzzled the she cat. "Really? I'm going to be the father of your kits? You're going to be a mother? Salmonpaw is going to have siblings? Kits?!" He rambled. "Come on! I'll help you make a nest in the nursery!"

"Lightberry, can we see the kits?" Cherrykit asked. "Yeah can we?" Berrykit agreed. Lightberry was hesitant but nodded anyways. The kits raced on over and smiled brightly when seeing the tiny one moon old kits feeding. "When can we play with them?" The older sibling asked. "In a moon. They'll be old enough to play." Lightberry informed. "This is Acornkit and Sparkkit." She added on pointing to each of them as she said their name. "Wait, aren't medicine cats not allowed to have mates?" Cherrykit asked. "That's true but, it's a secret okay?" Lightberry asked. The four moon old kits nodded and padded out. Of course when she thought things were fine, a dark figure entered the medicine cat's den."So... you have kits?"

“good morning, pondskipper!”

the she-cat turned to see reedstrike padding over to her, a water vole in his jaws. the tom smiled, sitting down near her. he dropped the carcass, nudging it towards her. “you seem to be on vigil longer than the apprentices. you ate this morning, didn’t you?”

pondskipper felt her skin flush at his words. defensively, she flicked her tail over her side and averted her gaze, looking towards the forest. “i can always snag something on patrols with ferretfur’s permission, you know.”

reedstrike shook his head with a chuckle. “that isn’t the warrior way, pondskipper. you would know that the best!” he purred, shifting beside her. their similar coats mingled, and pondskipper finally faced the grey tom.

“if i take a bite, will it pacify you?” reedstrike nodded, and thus the meal began. the two took turns at the vole, making small talk about clanlife and anything else that came to mind. the afternoon sun was pulled to the ocean, and the moon soon took its place.

as light filtered out of camp, reedstrike nudged a sleepy pondskipper awake. she blinked at him slowly, letting a rare smile split across her lips. “c’mon, it looks like ferretfur passed on a sundown patrol.” the grey tom mewed, motioning towards the warriors den. “i bet you’d love an early night, then you can start an even earlier vigil for yourself. i’ll even bring you another vole for your patrol.”

“that would be nice. thank you, reedstrike.”

the two fell in a patterned stride towards their den, climbing into their respective dens and letting dreams surround them both. the night sky stretched overhead, the caw of a night owl signifying another successful day.
