"Do you smell that?" Patchfoot whispered to Pigeonbelly, as she was sniffing around the base of a bush.
Curiously, Pigeonbelly trotted over, and immediately caught scent of rouges. She turned to her clan mate, the fur on her back rising in fear. "We better investigate this," she mewed.
Patchfoot's eyes widened, "Pigeonbelly, I can't," she paused, looking around the forest, her ears perked for pawsteps. "There's something I have to tell you."
"What is it?" Pigeonbelly was curious now, ever since Patchfoot had joined the Clan, Pigeonbelly had become her best friend.

"I'm expecting Settingstar's kits," Patchfoot hadn't yet said the words aloud, nor had she told Settingstar yet. It wasn't as if she didn't want the kits, she wanted them more than anything. But she didn't want to worry Settingstar. Not only was it leafbare, the worst season to have kits, but the Clan was still growing and trying to survive. Now was not the time to settle into the nursery, at least, that's what Patchfoot thought.

Littlekit was excited that the warriors were building a special den just for him. Well, Patchfoot, too. She had announced that she was having kits, and would be living as a queen now, whatever that meant. Littlekit was just happy that he didn't have to stay with Riverwisp anymore. The medicine cat had insisted that he slept in her den, seeing as there were no queens to raise him, Riverwisp had taken it upon herself to raise him. She even hoped that he would show an interest in being a medicine cat, as he certainly was smart enough.
Patchfoot was reluctant to leave the deputy position, but Settingstar was such a worrywart, she agreed to stay in the camp mostly to just calm Settingstar down.

On the other side of camp, Rookpaw was getting excited to become a warrior. He was almost old enough and Dawnfire had said that his assessment was coming up soon. He just hoped that he didn't disappoint his Clan. He wanted to be a strong warrior and keep his clan safe.

winter is in full swing, battering the clans as they struggle to find food and warmth. snow flurries through the camps,
covering the once-green grass in a blanket of white. with the cold, illness arrives. greencough is more common, and
cats who go out on more than one patrol per moon are more likely to contract it through a minor cold. to avoid the
worsening of their sickness, cats with colds are to stay in camp for 2 moons, not going on patrols. kittings are harder,
and prey is scarce. outsiders are more likely to stay huddled in their shelters than be found on patrols.

upon realizing that starclan had granted her request, applestar was ecstatic. starclan had listened to her, of all cats! it wa
s truly an incredible feat. not only had she gained a deputy, but she had also realized that she had been followed by a sma
ll kit, no older than three moons. she'd have to take care of the kitten on her own; for now, her deputy would have to hun
t for the three of them. the chilled air of the great garden was no match for the ever warm water━ kauai was almost nev
er cold. the breeze, however, was chilly. when it came to it, applestar had to make a decision. would she go with charcoal
mask and patrol? or would she stay with bluekit? after contemplating the pros and cons, applestar made her decision. "cha
rcoalmask, we need to leave before the sun rises fully," she mewed, poking her head into her deputy's den. the tom-cat
nods, silently watching his leader intently. together, the pair head out in separate directions. charcoalmask, energetic and
strong as he is, heads out to the sand bar to hunt. applestar, however, takes to the forest to patrol the area. with her eyes
open for wild boar and cattle, applestar keeps her nose open for unknown cats- starclan knows there's tons of them roamin
g the island; the only struggle is accepting them into the clan. the goal for the next few moons would be to keep up on fre
sh kill and keeping the dens clean. when the time came, applestar would return to the great crater to ask for a medicine c
at. soon, the clan would be thriving, and that's all that applestar could ever wish for. after staying with bluekit for a while,
charcoalmask and applestar switch jobs; applestar hunts while charcoalmask patrols. after all, he may sense something th
at the she-cat hadn't before.

Mallowcloud paced around the border, his tail flicking rhythmically.
The border was quiet, and the only sounds he heard was the snow falling and wind hissing.
That was why he nearly jumped out of his fur when he heard a voice.
"Hello?"
Mallow cloud slipped back and planted in the snow.
He got up and shook off his fur, hoping that the voice hadn't watched his failure.

"Yes, hello, hi. I'm Mallowcloud. Who're you?
There was a chuckle and Mallowcloudaverted his gaze from the ginger molly and her kit.
"I'm Wasp, and this is my son, Apple. My mate died, and we decided to find a clan. Judging by your name, I'd assume you're a part of a clan?"
Mallowcloud nodded and flicked his tail, signaling for the pair to come with him.

Sagestar was a good tracker, but her skills in catching prey were sub-par.
"Here, let me help."
Sagestar whipped around to see a small brown tabby.
"Errr. alright."
The pair discussed what do do, and eventually agreed that Sagestar would approach in a direction that would let the animal smell her and run away, right into the waiting paws of the other cat.

It took awhile, but they eventually caught a decently sized bird.
"Thanks for your help! I'm Sagestar of RainClan, who are you?""
"A clan cat! I've been looking for one of those! I'm Linnet! Can I join, please?"

Sagestar was shocked by the sudden spunk and enthusiasm.
"Uh... sure?"

The two cats walked back to camp, the bird dangling from Linnet's mouth.

To Sagestar's surprise, Mallowcloud was waiting for her at camp with not one, but two cats with him.
She almost didn't notice the second - the little ginger tom was cowering behind his mother, and he jerked back behind her after sparing Sagestar a glance.

""Who are these two?"
Mallowcloud opened his mouth to respond, but the mother answered instead.
"I'm Wasp, and this is my son-"
"Apple, my name is Apple."

Sagestar nodded.
"Mallowcloud and I will assign mentors. The kits will train, and then will be sent on patrols that relate to the skill they train in."
She picked mentors, and decided to send herself and Linnet (now Linnetpaw) on a hunting patrol, and Mallowcloud, Apple(paw) and Wasp(pelt) on a border patrol. Those patrols would happen after Linnetpaw was trained for Hunting, and Applepaw for battle.

Serphenite had, undoubtedly, settled in quite well. The handsome black tom got a bit of attention, specifically from Mothfrost, Zinniathorn and, the most shocking of all, Silentash. The snarky tom seemed quite fond of Silentash and the clan as a whole was slightly taken aback. Silentash, as per her namesake, was always so... well, silent. And this newcomer who had refused a warrior name was so brash, cocky, and just downright rude.

That didn't push Vultureclaw away though. The tom knew where Serphenite was nearly all the time. He would see the other tom and his breath would get caught in his throat and his fragile little heart would fall into his paws. How was he supposed to tell him though? How was he supposed to tell anyone? The tom had never felt this way before about anyone, let alone another tom. By Starclan that face though.. he couldn't help but feel an immense attraction to that.

"Alright, everyone." Aspeneyes' voice suddenly interrupted Vultureclaw, causing him to cough on the bit of mouse in his mouth, "I need some volunteers for a hunting patrol."

Serphenite's pitch black pelt slunk forward, "I'll do it." he spoke, voice sounding like it was dripping with honey.

Vultureclaw stood, leaving his mouse half eaten behind him, "I'll go too!" he spoke almost a little.. to eagerly. The tom glanced at Serphenite only to have an immensely disappointing scene waiting for him.

The handsome black tom shot Silentash a wink and the ashy grey she-cat came to stand beside her new little crush. Pathetic. Silentash wound her bushy tail around Serphenite's and purred, "Obviously that means I'll have to go too." she muttered.

Thistletuft
Thistletuft came back to camp, holding a fat hare in his jaws. It was a harsh leafbare, but StarClan had provided well today. The gray tom glanced at his ginger-and-white sister, Hollyspots, and gave her an encouraging smile. Hollyspots nodded, though her eyes never lost the light of nervousness. Of course, it had only been a few days since Leafstar and the cats with greencough had moved to the smaller camp nearby, leaving the bulk of the Clan exposed to the maelstrom that Stormfang was. Thistletuft and the others all laid the fresh-kill onto the pile, and waited for Stormfang to return. The gray-furred deputy of SeaClan did so, and, upon resting his gaze on him and his sister, he spoke, "As Leafstar is not here to give his opinion on this matter, I, Stormfang, as deputy and stand-in for Leafstar, will take the action myself." Nodding toward Carrotfur, he meowed, "Carrotfur, take Antfoot and Applemist with you, and hold the two half-Clan mutts prisoner in Leafstar's chamber." Thistletuft froze as his best friend gave a short nod in reply. He heard his sister cry out, "You can't do this to us! We are as loyal to SeaClan as any other warrior here!" Carrotfur paused, glancing back at Stormfang. The solid gray tom nodded impassively, meowing, "Use force if necessary." Carrotfur seemed to hesitate for a moment before flicking his tail as a sign for Antfoot and Applemist to close in. Thistletuft hissed, facing his former friend, "I trusted you, Carrotfur! You're Leafstar's son, how dare you!" He made the first move, lashing out at the ginger-and-white tom with claws unsheathed. The older tom twisted his body to avoid the slash, opting to nick an ear with his own claws. A stinging sensation went through his body, stemming from his ear, but the young gray tom did not give ground. "Is that all you got?" He taunted, facing his would-be prisoners, "you lot call yourself warriors?" Antfoot spat, "You filthy-" Hollyspots flung herself at the small black tom as she screeched, "You won't get away with this!" Black fur clashed with ginger-and-white as Antfoot and Hollyspots dug their claws into each other, fangs bared. Encouraged by Stormfang, a newcomer, Swayingtrees of SwiftClan, joined in, wanting to please whoever was in charge of camp at the moment, forcing Hollyspots on the ground. Thistletuft had enough. He screeched, "You hypocrite! You allowed Swayingtrees in without a single complaint, and now he's accepted as one of your group?" The fur at the back of his neck rose in fury as he flung himself toward Stormfang. He spat, "You are going to die, Stormfang, in the name of StarClan!" Before he could, however, a mass of black fur intercepted him; Ravenwish batted the younger tom away like a toy and pinned him to the ground, sneering, "You're no better than a kittypet now, are you?" Thistletuft snarled, "Let me go, you coward! Let me fight you like a true warrior!"

At that moment, Stormbreeze came in, followed by Shorefall. Thistletuft knew they had been to the sickness camp to deliver herbs to Dapplepaw, on Honeytuft's orders. The fluffy gray son of Brightstream and Vinescratch saw his chance. He called out to the two toms, "Help, Stormbreeze, Shorefall!" Stormbreeze demanded, looking straight at Stormfang, "Stormfang, what in StarClan's name are you doing?" Shorefall added, "Those are SeaClan warriors you are pinning down!" Stormfang sighed, as if he were bored by the situation, meowing, "Only trying to get rid of cats who are only half-SeaClan, is all." As the two toms stiffened, Sagefrost and Applemist came to them as the latter warned, "If you don't want the same thing happening to you as well, I suggest you don't interfere." Shorefall made a move to fling himself at the ginger she-cat, but Stormfang held him back, whispering something into the warrior's ears that Thistletuft could not make out. The longhaired ginger tom glanced back at Thistletuft and Hollyspots, pity in his eyes, but he and his gray-furred companion made no move to help them.

Stormfang
Stormfang turned his attention back to Thistletuft and his sister, Hollyspots. Lazily stepping up to the Meeting Ledge, he yowled, "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey meet here, under the Meeting Ledge, for a Clan meeting!" An excited glint was in his eyes as the solid gray tom remarked, "I've always wanted to say that." Thistletuft spat, "You have no RIGHT to say those words, Stormfang!" Hollyspots added, "Leafstar's still our leader!" Stormfang merely commented, "But he's not here, is he?" as the main camp assembled at the clearing. Most of the apprentices looked confused at the appearance of Stormfang on top of the Meeting Ledge, but most of the other warriors kept their eyes to the ground, not willing to cross the gray tom, lest they end up like Thistletuft and Hollyspots on the ground. When the cats had settled, Stormfang spoke, "Today, we are gathered to witness an act that should have been done many moons ago, when Brightstream, who dared to dishonor SeaClan by mating with a non-SeaClan warrior, gave birth. We will keep these two prisoners for now, as I have no desire to harm them further... for now." He emphasized the last two words. He continued, glancing at Carrotfur and Ravenwish, "Escort them to Leafstar's chamber." The ginger-and-white tom and the black Maine Coon tom nodded and roughly forced the two prisoners to their paws. Brocadepaw, a former kittypet Leafstar had pity on and allowed to join, cried, outraged, "You can't do that!" As Mintnose warned her apprentice, the tortoiseshell she-cat continued, "They are SeaClan warriors too! Who cares about blood? At one point no one was a SeaClan warrior, not even you!" Stormfang's eyes narrowed into mere slits as he leapt down to the ground. He pounced onto the younger she-cat as he asked, his voice icily calm, "What did you say?" Stormfang saw fear in Brocadepaw's eyes for a moment before it turned to bravery, "I'm not afraid of you, Stormfang!" She continued, "I said, you can't imprison them because we are SeaClan because StarClan willed us to be SeaClan. Some of us may have descended down from the original SeaClan, but only a few of us are Clan cats from birth!" Glancing back at Thistletuft and Hollyspots, the tortoiseshell she-cat added, "and those two certainly were born into SeaClan, so that makes them full Clan!" Stormfang's head filled with the urge to slash at her throat, to silence her forever, but he forced himself to stop. He couldn't murder, not just yet. They had to know that he was the one who was truly in charge before. The solid gray tom forced his unsheathed claws back in as he addressed the Clan, "From this day on, until the onset of newleaf, no apprentice will be allowed to train. All patrols will be accompanied by either Carrotfur, Sagefrost, Ravenwish, Applemist, Swayingtrees, Antfoot, or myself from now on." He leapt back onto the ledge and asked, daring anyone to challenge him again, "Understood?" Mintnose hurriedly covered her apprentice's mouth with her tail as she began to complain again, and all the cats in the clearing muttered their agreement. "Good," he meowed, and dismissed the Clan. He nodded to Carrotfur and Ravenwish, and they forced their prisoners to march into the dark recesses of Leafstar's former residence.

His Reign of Terror had begun.

Carrotfur
The ginger-and-white tom forced his heavy paws to carry himself to where Stormbreeze was talking to Whisperdust and Shorefall. Their voices were lowered, and he could not hear anything, but he did not care. It wasn't his place to eavesdrop, even if Stormfang had ordered him to. Whisperdust was the first one that spotted him standing nearby. Her eyes narrowed as she indicated for her companions to stop and turn to face him. The gray she-cat asked curtly, "What do you want, Carrotfur?" Leafstar's son swallowed and forced himself to meet her frosty gaze evenly, though every part of his body screamed at him not to. He meowed, trying not to let his voice shake, "I need to speak to Stormbreeze in private." Shorefall asked, rising to his paws, "What do you want with him? Anything you want to say to him, we want to hear too." Whisperdust nodded, "Yes. We are his friends, and we want to know what is going to happen." "I swear to StarClan," he began, clenching his teeth to keep his tears from bursting free, "I don't mean harm to Stormbreeze, in any shape or form. I carry no message from Stormfang, nor from any of the group." After a long moment, Stormbreeze nodded, "All right." Turning to his friends, who looked at him with astonishment, the solid gray tom assured him, "He swore to StarClan. Carrotfur is a good cat at heart," he added firmly, "I know he is, deep down." Turning to face the ginger-and-white tom, he nodded, "All right, let's get to a secluded spot then?" "Would the Dirtplace tunnel be silent enough?" Carrotfur suggested, then closed his eyes, embarrassed, "Sorry, only place I could think of." Stormbreeze's whiskers twitched with amusement as he mewed, "The river, then? No one's fishing in this weather." Carrotfur glanced back at Whisperdust and Shorefall, and then gulped. "All right."

Their trek to the river was spent in silence. Neither cat had the courage to approach the other, it seemed.

Facing the semi-frozen river, Stormbreeze meowed, reminiscing, "Carrotfur, you were a fun-loving kit. You loved to make your father laugh." Carrotfur remained silent as the older warrior looked at him, "What happened to you?" The ginger-and-white refused to speak as the solid gray tom pressed on, "What made you side with Stormfang?" Carrotfur knew he could trust this warrior, who looked very much alike Stormfang, yet was gentle and kind. He allowed his emotions to wash over him as he pressed his face into the older tom's flank and sobbed like a kit. He could feel Stormbreeze stiffen with shock at the action, but soon, the ginger-and-white warrior could feel the older tom's tail wrapping around him, as if he were his father. Stormbreeze murmured, "It's okay, Carrotfur, tell me. I won't judge." Carrotfur meowed, forcing his words out between gasps, "Oh, Stormbreeze, I didn't mean it! I didn't mean to be so mean to you, or to Whisperdust, or Shorefall, or... or..." He let out a loud howl as another wave of tears flowed down his face, "Or to Thistletuft and Hollyspots!" He shuddered as he forced his body to stop crying before meowing, "I'm doing this on Leafstar's orders. Infiltrate Stormfang's group, become close to him. And find the final blow to his credibility, and use it against him to topple him." Stormbreeze gasped, "So you've been undercover for the whole time?" "Yes," the ginger-and-white tom replied, "and I owe Thistletuft and Hollyspots an eternity's worth of apologies..." Stormbreeze gently interrupted, "What was it that you'd wanted to see me for though?" Carrotfur looked at Stormbreeze as he meowed, "Help them." "Them?" the solid gray tom echoed; Leafstar's son nodded, explaining, "Thistletuft and Hollyspots. Help them escape the main camp. Leafstar's waiting for you and them at the sickness camp. The situation there is improving, for the most part, save for Rosefern and Sleetsky, who are gravely ill." Lowering his voice, he continued, "You saw Fernstrike earlier this morning. He walked into camp and said he was cured." Stormbreeze confirmed, "Couldn't smell a hint of sickness from him." "Exactly," Carrotfur nodded; he meowed, "He's also a part of Stormfang's group, so be careful." "Right..." Stormbreeze meowed thoughtfully, "how am I going to get two cats out?"

Before Carrotfur could explain, Honeytuft's voice startled the two, "By a way of a distraction." Turning around, Carrotfur and Stormbreeze saw that it was Honeytuft and the new cat that Carrotfur and his patrol had found earlier, Cardinal. The younger ginger-and-white tom stepped up to Carrotfur and meowed, "You said you are the leader's son, right?" As Carrotfur nodded, Cardinal offered, "Honeytuft said I can act like I'm sick. So while the other cats escort me to the sickness camp, you can go to Thistletuft and Hollyspots' place and get them out." Honeytuft added, "The guards right now are Breezewhisker and Morningflame. They are young, and have yet to experience what Leafstar's like properly, but they are good cats at heart." Carrotfur nodded, a plan forming in his mind, "I'll convince them that I'm the new guard, and let them go off to rest. Once I pretend to leave for the Dirtplace-" Stormbreeze realized what he was going to say next as he meowed, "-I sneak in there, tell them about the plan, and hightail it." Honeytuft nodded, "And all Carrotfur has to do is come in just as Stormbreeze is herding them out through the Pine Grove tunnel. Raise the alarm, and give chase, but make sure whoever's with you can't get ahead of you, Carrotfur." The ginger-and-white tom nodded gratefully, "Thank you, Honeytuft. Cardinal," he nodded, dipping his head toward the younger tom. Cardinal mewed, "I can't wait to see your father, since he's probably like you as he's your dad!" Blushing slightly, Carrotfur mumbled, "He's the great one, I'm not that good..."

The ginger-and-white tom then realized something. He turned to the tabby medicine cat and asked, "How did you know?" Honeytuft chuckled, "No one can fool a medicine cat, Carrotfur. You are extremely brave and selfless," he added softly, gently laying his tail on the younger tom's shoulder, "to have taken this task upon your shoulders. You are young, yet you are wise beyond your years." He blinked thoughtfully, "We'd better get back to camp before someone thinks I've deserted the Clan or something." Turning to Cardinal, he called, "Let's go." The young ginger-and-white tom nodded, "Will do!" The two toms walked away, leaving Stormbreeze and Carrotfur alone once again.

"Shall we execute it now." It was a statement, not a question. Carrotfur turned to the older tom and nodded, "Yes. Let's do this. I owe it to my friends to allow them to be free, at the very least." Stormbreeze promised, "I won't let any harm come to them, Carrotfur, I promise." Before walking back, the solid gray tom murmured, "Just promise me that no harm comes to Mintnose while she is here in the main camp." "I won't," Carrotfur promised firmly. He had no intention of allowing any harm to come to any of Leafstar's remaining allies in camp while he was there himself.

The two toms quickly left back for camp, their paws light and their expressions grim with determination.

{At the camp}
Stormbreeze went straight into the warriors' chamber without indicating anything had happened between them, causing Whisperdust and Shorefall, who had been waiting for him since he had left, to follow him inside in a hurry. Carrotfur was free to approach Morningflame and Breezewhisker, who were sitting down as guards for Thistletuft and Hollyspots. He meowed, "Morningflame, Breezewhisker." The former MistClan warriors looked up in alarm at his voice. The ginger-and-white tom briefly smiled bitterly as he realized even his voice would bring fear to these cats he had called Clanmate in the space of a moon. The ginger-and-white tom quickly meowed, "Where are the others?" Breezewhisker glanced nervously at her brother before replying, "The others are escorting Cardinal, the new young'un, to the sickness camp, since he started coughing like crazy earlier." Nodding, Carrotfur meowed, knowing that Honeytuft's idea had worked, "All right, you two can go rest, I'll take over." The two looked at each other as Morningflame asked, "Are you sure?" Carrotfur pointed out, flinching inwardly, "They've been half-starved and beaten. They can't get far even if they manage to overpower me." Morningflame and his sister winced at his words, but nodded. The two dipped their heads to him, even if they were older than him, and the two hurriedly shuffled past him, and disappeared into the tunnel to the warriors' chamber. Smiling sadly to himself, Carrotfur took up the duties of prison guard as he sat down, awaiting for sundown to come.

{Later in the afternoon}
Carrotfur saw movement from the direction of the warriors' chamber. He saw a pair of emerald green eyes gleam from the dark recesses of the tunnel before it disappeared. This was a sign from Stormbreeze. It was time. The ginger-and-white warrior steeled himself and darted into the tunnel leading to the Dirtplace tunnel, only stopping just inside the tunnel, far enough to cover his fur in darkness. He saw Stormbreeze heading into the leader's chamber, and waited with bated breath.

Stormbreeze
The solid gray tom headed inside. He had steeled himself for what he expected the siblings' conditions would be, but it wasn't enough. What he saw appalled him. Thistletuft was sprawled on the ground, one of his eyes swollen shut and one of his ears torn. Hollyspots fared a bit better. She was sitting down, though she kept licking at her right forepaw, as if she had sprained it or something. The ginger-and-white she-cat's fur bristled as she turned to face him. She started to say, "Stormfang, what-" before she realized who it was. "Sorry," she muttered, "thought you were Stormfang." Smiling sadly, Stormbreeze murmured, "It's fine, Hollyspots, even Stormfang admitted I could make a good double for him. Like I would join him," he scoffed softly. He then meowed quickly, "Hurry, we've got a short time before Carrotfur comes back from the Dirtplace. We must get away." "To where?" Thistletuft croaked, as the gray tom painfully gathered himself and sat up, "the sickness camp?" "Yes," Stormbreeze nodded, "we are. But first, we are going to the Pine Grove, to hide out. We must make it look like we fled to PineClan." Hollyspots asked, "How did you think of this idea?" Stormbreeze meowed softly, "Leafstar's orders." The two littermates exchanged looks before Thistletuft asked, "Then what are you waiting for? Let's get going." "Right," Stormbreeze nodded. He went out of the chamber to check on the main camp. Seeing only Emberwhisker there, he put a paw to his mouth as a sign to remain silent as he meowed back to the prisoners, "All clear!" The tortoiseshell warrior watched, incredulous, as Thistletuft and Hollyspots emerged. Stormbreeze could see how terrible the two cats looked in the lighting of the main chamber, and his paws clenched in anger against Stormfang, whom he knew was being distracted by Whisperdust and Shorefall on a hunt. "This way!" He called, and the two littermates shuffled past Emberwhisker, whose eyes were lowered to the ground guiltily. Stormbreeze knew she wouldn't tell a soul, she was the first cat that Leafstar had recruited to be part of SeaClan, he'd heard from Whiterose, and that meant she was extremely loyal to the sandy brown tabby leader.

As they made it out of the tunnel, and into broad daylight, he heard Carrotfur's yowl, "The prisoners are escaping with Stormbreeze!" The solid gray tom pushed Hollyspots and Thistletuft on, guiding them through the thick snow, "Come on, hurry!" He glanced behind his shoulders, and he saw that it was Carrotfur, along with Birchlight and a very ashamed looking Morningflame, who were chasing them. "Birchlight doesn't know how to traverse this terrain in snow," Stormbreeze informed them, "and Morningflame will be easily stopped by Carrotfur!" Hollyspots halted briefly, "Carrotfur will what?" Thistletuft halted as well, "He's going to stop them? When he raised the alarm?" "Look," Stormbreeze prompted as he turned. To his relief, Carrotfur was leading the two inexperienced warriors through the slippery bits of snow as they gave chase. "He's acting, for StarClan's sake. He's doing it on his father's orders." They ran through the snow to the Pine Grove, and plowed through the snow to the edges of SeaClan territory. After a few moments of hesitation, Stormbreeze meowed, "Go duck into that large bush over there by stepping into your own pawsteps to double back. We will travel to the Sickness camp later tonight." Hollyspots asked, "And you?" "Going to make tracks that suggest we made it to PineClan." "Won't you get caught?" "I have to risk it," he meowed quickly. He left, sprinting ahead, sensing the two cats do as he had ordered as he did.

(Later that night)
Thistletuft
"Thistletuft?" Carrotfur's voice came from outside. The gray tom leapt to his paws, though his sides ached. He asked carefully, "Carrotfur?" "I'm with Stormbreeze," his former friend's voice came to him, "I promise." The ginger-and-white tom poked his head through the bush, followed by Stormbreeze. The two toms came in, the former standing still while the latter sat down. Hollyspots also sat up by now, and asked, a guarded tone in her mew, "Carrotfur?" "I... came to apologize," the ginger-and-white tom meowed, lowering his head in shame, "I only did it to impress Stormfang, to make him trust me." He swallowed, "Leafstar asked me to infiltrate his group, to become one of them, to find out what we could use against Stormfang to finally end his trail of wickedness." Hollyspots meowed, eyes wide in shock, "So you didn't mean it?" "Definitely not," Carrotfur replied honestly, tears forming in his eyes, "You two are my best friends. It nearly killed me inside to attack you like that. I... I don't deserve your forgiveness," he added, flattening his ears in submission. Thistletuft meowed quietly, "Then you are the one that sneaked us the herbs from Honeytuft's place at night?" "Yes," the ginger-and-white tom replied, "I did it as you two slept. I didn't want you two to die there." He swallowed, "You should get going, Father's waiting for you three." Stormbreeze nodded, "Take care of yourself, Carrotfur." "What did he say?" Thistletuft asked, "when you came back empty-pawed?" Carrotfur meowed, "He figured you three would freeze to death in this weather, so he said not to give further chase. 'Good riddance,' is what he said, exact quote." He flinched at the quote after he said it. Wincing, Hollyspots murmured, "We should really go." Stormbreeze meowed, "After we hunt though. They must have not eaten properly since they went there." "I've got a slightly sprained paw," Hollyspots mewed, "but I can manage." Thistletuft nodded, "That's the least we can do. We owe Leafstar our lives." Carrotfur nodded and meowed solemnly, "Good luck." The gray tom turned to his best friend and mewed, "Take a clump of fur from my pelt, say you caught me, and swiped, but I managed to get away because Stormbreeze pinned you down after ambushing you." Carrotfur mewed, "...all right. Sorry for this." He unsheathed his claws and scored them across Thistletuft's flank. The gray tom felt the sting of the wound, but he murmured, "No, it's fine." Venusstar trotted through the forest near her camp. Her stomach was growling, and she needed to find prey. She scented the air, and smelled the different kinds of trees surrounding her, faint coyote scent, and a squirrel. She smiled and dropped into a hunters crouch. She slowly moved towards the squirrel, and soon it was in her sight. She got a little closer, then wiggled her haunches, and pounced towards it.
