“ During the moon after Larkfeather and Wildheart had left Caveclan to become kittypets, things were beginning to settle down into their normal routines. Like Harestar had predicted, the pair’s departure had evoked strong reactions among the clan. Perhaps they might have accepted it had the pair wanted to join a new clan or go back to being loners, but the news that Larkfeather and Wildheart were becoming kittypets had elicited shocked and horrified reactions. Lilystem who had developed a friendship with Larkfeather while the queens had raised their kits together was hurt and confused, horrified by Larkfeather’s love for her twolegs while Chiveclaw scowled, mumbling something about how Larkfeather had taken advantage of Caveclan’s generosity. He and Ferretclaw shot them icy glares, hissing insults at the pair throughout the days before they left. Many of the cats had chosen to ignore them, keeping a bit of a distance from the pair, as if they believed Larkfeather and Wildheart’s decision to become kittypets would rub off on them. Not every cat was so wary and jumpy though. Mottledshade and Pigeonflight, who had been former kittypets as well, did not approve of the decision, were a little more distant than usual but were polite. A few cats, including Dappleleaf, Sunstripe, and Sedgetail, were among the few who genuinely wished the pair a happy future. Larkfeather’s daughters and Wildhearts sisters, Robinfeather and Pepperspark, stuck protectively close to them and it was no surprise to any cat when the family were joined by Lilystem’s litter, even when Lilystem chose not to say goodbye with them. Larkfeather and Lilystem’s kits had been born within a few days of each other and had spent their entire lives together. They’d even helped escort the pair to the edge of the territory, remaining hidden in reeds at the lakeshore while Larkfeather and Wildheart headed around the lake towards the twoleg dens.
Harestar believed that it was the excitement of having new warriors, as well as the newly promoted apprentices. Shiveringpelt had been given Skypaw to mentor while Heatherbreeze was appointed as Featherpaw’s mentor. Narcissus was over the moon proud of Featherpaw, bragging to any cat who would listen to his usual nonsense. Of course, this meant he was mainly focused on Minkflutter, one of the few cats who was patient enough and happy to listen to Narcissus’s normally exaggerated stories. Since he’d adopted Featherkit though, Minkflutter seemed more interested than ever in talking with Narcissus. Spikebush seemed more relieved to return to the warriors den, her pride in the kits expressed more through the glint in her eyes than anything. She was Skypaw’s biological mother but had nursed both new apprentices when they’d need her. Spikebush had even helped Hawkfeather with his litter of four, but the job seemed to have been very draining for the grumpy molly as that many kits had been too much for her. Once their kits had been born however, Birdflight and Mistfall had split nursing the four between them, giving Spikebush the ability to focus on Skypaw and Featherpaw. The clan had undergone two more changes after Larkfeather and Wildheart had departed. Shimmerpelt and Mottledshade had decided to become permanent queens. The mollies had always been happy to help in the nursery even without nursing kits themselves, but during the days Spikebush had needed to care for so many kits, they’d become invaluable. All of the queens were grateful to them, relieved to have two extra pairs of eyes to keep an eye on the rambunctious kits. Skypaw and Featherpaw’s apprentice ceremony seemed to have an interesting effect on the younger kits, who had taken to playing in the warriors den and getting underpaw. There had been several instances where the clan had needed to herd them back to the nursery after trying to sneak out with a patrol or getting into Cloudpool’s herbs. After an especially alarming instance where Beaverkit and Foxkit had dared Honeykit to sample some of the herbs in the medicine den, Cloudpool and Mosspaw had needed to lecture the kits and the new apprentices about keeping away from the herb storage. For the most part it seemed to have worked but the queens still had their paws full with the kits, even with Shimmerpelt and Mottledshade joining them as permanent queens.

Eelstar took a moment to prepare himself. This apprentice ceremony - his kits’ apprentice ceremony… His children, the little wriggling bundles that Allium had dropped off all those moons ago, were - still wriggly. Deemed old - and strong - enough to be able to start training to be warriors, but still so very much kits.

Numbatkit especially was fidgeting, his paws kneading the root below him. Eelstar tried not to notice the tiny bit of moss stuck between his son’s claws. It was too late for him to hop down and fix it for him. Or to fix the flick of fur that wouldnt sit straight on echidnakit’s shoulder, or the fluff inside Cuckookit’s ear. Or to do anything more than blink reassuringly at the three of them as he lifted his tail and called for order.

The Clan silenced, with the three chosen mentors slipping forwards to stand beside eelstar.

“Today, Tidalclan, we celebrate the future!” the leader’s tail quivered, betraying his excitement despite his calm voice. “Today, we welcome these young cats to the next stage of their lives. Today, they step forwards and begin their training.”

A crooked tail beckons forth the first of the three, and Numbatkit pounced forwards, back legs scrabbling slightly on the damp wood.

“Numbatkit, do you -”

“Yes!”

A chuckle spread it’s way around the camp.

“Numbatkit. Do you swear to try your best, and to listen -” another ripple of amusement “- to your mentor, and follow their advice and teachings.”

Numbatkit’s tail swished. “I already said yes Dad!”

Eelstar’s ear twitched. “Then, Numbatpaw, your mentor will be Carpnose.” The warrior stepped forwards, and narrowly avoided having the newly named numbatpaw’s nose crash into his face. He tried not to wince at his son’s exuberance as Carpnose laid his tail over the new apprentice’s shoulders to guide him to the side to wait for the end of the ceremonies.

The leader was sure he could hear a tiny “this is why I should’ve gone first” from echidnakit to her other brother, but carefully ignored it, just beckoning the young cat forwards for her turn.

“Echidnakit,” he began, as she stepped carefully onto the root in front of him, “do you swear to do your best; to listen, learn from, and to trust your mentor to guide you in the ways of a warrior?”

Echidnakit glanced around, checking that the Clan were watching her as she answered “I do. I swear.”

“Then, echidnapaw, your mentor is Deerfang.” the new apprentice stretched delicately up, touching noses carefully. Eelstar watched out of the corner of his eye as she walked past her brother, flicking her tail just slightly too far to compensate for balance. Their mentors would have to sort it out if it got too far into a squabble. Eelstar had more important things to do.

“Cuckookit.” a shiver went through the smallest of his three children, and eelstar blinked reassuringly at him. “Do you swear to try your best, and to listen and learn as best you can from your mentor and Clan?”

A small nod, and then a very quiet “i swear.”

Eelstar gave a nod, “then, Cuckoopaw, your mentor will be emuflower.” He watched, proud, as the last of his kits was encouraged to greet his mentor.

A cheer started, calling the names of the new apprentices. The future of TidalClan looked bright

GREENLEAF || The heat is nearly unbearable in some places, yet it is also welcome and comforting in others. The sun stays in the sky for longer than any portion of the year, and most creatures are active at dusk and dawn. Kittings come easier, and prey is easier to find. • Inkblade's patrol, after following the scent of the fox in circles for what felt like hours, finally stumbled across the creature on the edge of the border. Despite it being greenleaf, it was scrawny and hungry and desperate. As the patrol banded together to drive it away, it managed to catch Lavaripple in its jaws. She manages to escape, and the patrol succeeds in running the predator off, but Weasel is quick to inform her that she will need 1 moon of rest to prevent any infection in her wounds.
• Shoelace's patrol catches the scent of a predator, but it seems to be the fox that criss-crossed the entire territory, so there's no reason to worry.
• Swingset's patrol catches the scent of a predator, but it seems to be the fox that criss-crossed the entire territory, so there's no reason to worry.
• Slothhop's patrol is forced to return early when Lemonmeringue stumbles into a thicket of brambles. Despite being told to remain calm, they begin to struggle and worsen their situtation. After a long time of peeling the brambles from them, they are rushed to camp and informed they will need 1 cobweb, 1 marigold, and 2 moons of rest to recover from the ordeal.
• Typingquirk's patrol is greeted by a friendly cat on the border who claims to be Roy. They decide to bring the stranger back to camp and introduce them to Cypressstar.
• Twinarmageddons's patrol passes rather uneventfully.
