𝐄𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫: Ebonystar glanced over her clan, a clan of 3? she thought to herself. She could imagine kits running around and elders sharing tongues, eventually that day would come. Butterflynose padded beside Mousepelt, she was oddly accepting of him, despite him previously being a rogue. It was almost as if they had known each other in previous times. Ebonystar envied how caring Butterflynose was, she just couldn't bring herself to be so trusting of others.

𝐁𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐥𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐞: The morning had just arrived and Butterflynose trotted over to greet Mousepelt. The tall tom touched noses with her, it was obvious that he was grateful to have somebody accepting him into the clan. Butterflynose eventually broke away from him after sharing information about prey and borders, she could see him in the corner of her eye watching her as she padded away. Butterflynose couldn’t help but feel a spark in her stomach, she didn’t know what the spark was, but it didn’t feel negative.

Verdant Falls

Shale padded through the undergrowth, a mouse clutched between his teeth. He moved quickly- he’d left his mate and kits to go hunting only a short time ago, but already he missed them terribly.

But as he got closer to the place he had left them, a chill ran down his spine. Fearfully, he picked up his pace, but with every step he took, his feelings of terror grew. Nearly there, the smell of blood reached his nose, and as he scrambled to the small den hidden in the shelter of a rock, he dropped the mouse in horror. His family was gone, but signs of a struggle remained. He could smell traces of a mountain lion, the most fearsome predator the forest had to offer.

He didn’t remember what happened next. He didn’t know how much time passed, or how he found himself standing at the edge of a cliff. Shale felt like his life was already over. He knelt down at the cliff’s edge and closed his eyes, hoping that one way or another, the forest would take him as well.

But the pawsteps that sound behind him were those of another cat, nothing more. Hoping against hope, Shale turned his head. But the one standing behind him...

She was a cat like nothing he had ever seen before. Her long fur was dappled with shades of vivid green, and her eyes shone as if the moon were held within them. plants trailed through her pelt, hanging with leaves and flowers. Shale was certain he had lost his mind.

“Shale,” started the strange cat. “I know you have lost much. But your story does not end here.”

Shale did not ask who she was, or how she knew his name. It hardly seemed to matter anyway.

“How can this be anything but the end?” he cried desolately. “When everything I cared about is gone forever?”

The strange cat hesitated. Then she answered,

“They are not gone. They are with me. And when they are ready, they will walk through the forest once more.”

Shale wasn’t sure what to say to that. He had no doubt that she meant it to sound comforting but...

“But what difference does that make if I can’t see them anymore?”

The strange cat smiled gently. “I can make sure they find their way back to you. Come with me, and I will show you to a safe place where you can await their return.”

Shale was suspicious of this. The promise of seeing his family again was compelling, but was something like that really possible? And moreover, what was in it for this stranger? But if there was a chance for it to be true... He’d never forgive himself if he let it slip by.

“...Okay. I’ll follow you.”

Without a word, the strange cat turned and led Shale away. He followed. In time, Shale lost track of where they were, as he was led into a part of the forest he had never seen before. The other cat led him through a small gap between two rocks, and the pair emerged to a breathtaking sight. A roaring waterfall, completely hidden from view on the other side. At the bottom, a wide river rushed away and disappeared in the undergrowth. On either side, a clearing stretched away, with numerous slopes and small caverns. The strange cat turned back to face Shale.

“This place is sheltered. You will find fewer threats here than anywhere else beneath my leaves. You can stay here as long as you like, and in time, I will fulfill my promise to you.”

Shale was still uncertain.

“This is all so much... Surely you must be expecting something in return?”

The cat smiled enigmatically.

“That remains to be seen. Welcome to Verdant Falls.”

Before Shale could ask what she meant, she was gone. It wasn’t that she vanished, but more that Shale suddenly realize he was looking at nothing but the forest. He found himself doubting whether he had truly seen a cat there at all. But Verdant Falls was real, he knew that much.

Moons passed. As had been promised, Verdant Falls was safe from some of the most dangerous aspects of the forest. Not perfectly safe- Shale had seen fox tracks, and the waterfall and river could easily hurt a cat who was careless, but there had been no sign of the kind of danger that had taken his family from him.

Still, as more and more time went by, Shale grew impatient. There had been no signs of any other cats around. Not the stranger, and not his family. He had taken to asking the forest out loud to speak to him once more. But no matter how many times he asked, he heard nothing. Until finally, he changed the request, just a bit.

“If I can’t speak to you again, at least show me someone who can!”

The wind was silent. The cave wasn't alive with noise anymore. A brown pointed she-cat stood in the snow. Her ears were perked forwards towards the quiet cave. Her bobbed tail flicked with curiosity. Her round, unique turquoise eyes blinking with an unclear emotion. "Choco- Choco?" A voice called out. She jumped, her eyes focusing on a shape in the snow. She narrowed her eyes, the mountains had a bit of fog today. Was that... A fox? She approached the shape carefully, eyes squinted in hopes to see better. Snow pushed up from the ground, a little muzzle and chubby face appeared from the snow. She almost yelped, but her muzzle only opened to let out a tiny gasp. "Hot Chocolate!" The shape mewed.

Not a fox.

It was Fox

The white-furred cat swivelled her rounded, arctic fox-like ears towards the cave. She sat up straight and ran, with her stubby legs, right next to the chocolate colourpoint. "There's something in there..." Fox mewed, tail lowering. Hot Chocolate stared down at the smaller shape. "You could scare them off. You look like a fox, just go do that yapping thing you do to scare off other cats." Fox looked up to meet her turquoise gaze. "Doesn't always work." The pale she-cat meowed slowly. "Oh for- you know what? These creatures have probably met a few foxes here before." Hot chocolate snapped back, making Fox jump. "Fine, I'll scare them off so we can go steal some prey... Or... Whatever you wanna do." Fox looked down at her paws. "Don't be mad at me, okay?"

The night after eating was usually silent, at least, that's what Shadekit found. She was basically her mother, Lavendereye's, look-a-like. She felt like like it was her duty to be responsible because of this. Each step she took was careful. She loved playing with her littermates, sure, but- wait a second. Her ears perked with interest. Snow... Crunching beneath paws? She looked around, Fluff face and Moonymoo were asleep. She liked the name Whitekit gave to their sister, Lunarkit. The crunching of snow distracted her from her thoughts again. Who's moving? Who isn't asleep? Maybe it was Frostgaze. Lunarkit was friends with Frostgaze. Frostgaze was a busy cat, the medicine cat.

Shadekit finally sat up with a lot of hesitation. No... The sound wasn't coming from the medicine den. She didn't even think there was snow in the medicine den. Maybe the medicine cat was herb hunting. Wiggling her haunches, she leaped over her mother's sleeping body. Her hesitation was clear in each step. Was this against the rules? She poked her head out of the nursery, attention drifting to the dripping hole in the cave's ceiling. The water or snow landed in the small dip in the cave below, making a really nice and refreshing drink. Maybe the crunch of snow she was hearing was just a huge chunk dripping in from the hole? Speaking of water, she was thirsty.

After drinking, she licked her jaws of any remaining water. More steps brought her back to what she was confused about. The cave sloped up a little to the exit. Kits weren't allowed to leave camp, but as long as she stayed inside the cave when she had a look out, maybe she was safe from being called out and being told off by a warrior- or worse- Ghostfall or Lavendereyes or... Dandelionstar. Her steps were slow, careful. She made her way, halfway up the slope. Before her eyes met something truely horrifying.

White fur. Soft and plush-like.

Ears round, flicked forwards as if it was alert.

It was short, but scary all the same.

Shadekit had heard stories of the arctic fox.

Shadekit's purple-toned eyes met the fox's.

She ran back, screaming. "FOX! THERE'S A FOX OUTSIDE!" Her voice rang out in the cave, echoing on the walls. She saw her father burst out the warriors den, eyes landing on his kit and lifting her off the ground, heading towards the nursery.

Lavendereyes was up. Ghostfall had only hoped she was. His kits were awake, eyes wide, confused, fearful. He put down his kit. "Outside? Shadekit where was this fox?" His gaze was serious. Very serious. "Right outside- I heard snow moving and I had a tiny look and I- I think it saw me." Shadekit's eyes were wide, fearful. Her voice was shaking. "You're going to be okay, Dandelionstar and I are going to have a look at this fox. We'll bring some strong warriors so we can chase them off, okay?" He responded carefully, Shadekit nodded quickly, huddling with her mother and littermates.

Ghostfall headed out into the main cave area. Dandelionstar was already rounding up some warriors on his stalagmite. "If this fox is truly right outside, we will need some warriors to chase them off." The leader began, the white-furred tom nodded at Ghostfall. "Right- that's my job now." He muttered, stepping up next to Dandelionstar. "Shadekit says she saw the fox right outside, we think it might've seen her so it knows we've got..." He really didn't want to refer to his own kits as 'food' but it was really the only word that came to mind in his panicked thoughts. "Food."

After a breath he picked out some cats from the crowd... There was a crowd now... Cats had joined the clan. It was growing. "Hootflower, Cloudpeak, Birchdrift and I will attempt to chase away the fox, if we need backup, we will be coming back. Though I doubt it. We'll outnumber them."

The patrol had made their way outside. And sure enough. There it was. A golden-eyed arctic fox. It was so close to the cave it was definitely a threat.

They hissed.

Was that... A kit? Fox almost came closer, but she didn't need to, the kit was gone, and her screams were loud. It had worked! She turned around, Hot Chocolate was gone, probably hiding so it didn't seem suspicious that a cat was so casually sitting near an 'arctic fox'.

She didn't have to wait long before some cats appeared. They were... bigger.. than her. Maybe that wouldn't be suspicious... maybe. They were hissing. She almost hissed back, but remembered to growl instead. She yapped at them, but they were coming closer. "Leave our territory, nasty kit-eating brute." Hissed the pale one with blue eyes. Oh no... She didn't want to get hurt- so she yelped back. "Nononono! Wait!" The cats stopped hissing for a second, surprised. "I'm- I'm a cat- sorry! My name is Fox. all newly joining cats, as well as anyone showing no symptoms of sickness, are sent to a large cave in the south-western edge of the clan's territory to remain safe from potentially catching this mystery disease. in her absence, littermates valentineveil and redswipe are named temporary seraphim for this new temporary clan camp.

it would appear that some of the rit zien are finally catching the illness that has been plaguing the clan.. they still try to fight/work through the disease however. satinstar begs the rit zien to keep the secret of her loss of a life for now, confiding only in her mate that she is down to 3 lives.

rasofreckle apparently had been sneaking off into town and had fallen in love with a former kittypet named primrose, who is now pregnant. rasofreckle is nervous about introducing her to his mother ivorytower, as he hadn't told her about primrose in the past, but she thankfully welcomes the new cupid graciously into the family. --- funnily enough, dropcloud is in the same situation with the other new cupid ash, who thankfully his family welcomes.

As Foxspot and Lionfur came back into the camp, a sad she-cat was laying in her den. Her golden fur dark from shadows. She wasn't having a so good morning. "What's wrong, Lionstar?" Sparklenose asked, worry in her voice. "I had a rough morning, my prey was rotten, my fur won't untangle, and I fell into a pond on a stroll," she meowed, her fur bristled with frustration. "Could you fetch Spottedfur for me?" Sparklenose nodded and trotted out of the den. The pretty she-cat entered again, this time with a spotted tabby, Spottedfur. Lionstar dipped her head to show that Sparklenose may leave now. "I know the past few moons have been hard, for both me and you. The Clan is growing, you keep losing your kits, but it's okay, I already know it's okay. I promise," Spottedfur smiled, comforting Lionstar. Lionstar rubbed her cheek against his, and twined her tail with his. They lay down for a bit, as Spottedfur purred to help comfort the she-cat in distress. She looked back and Spottedfur, her eyes sparkling. "Thank you." Her eyes were bright and happy again, just like her old self. "Now, let's get you cleaned up, shall we?" Spottedfur laughed. He began to help groom her matted fur. After that, he brought her a fresh rabbit.
