xxxxThe patrol moves quietly through the trees, alert and aware for signs of danger or other wolves. In the lead, a massive male, his ebony coat shining and sleek, muscles rippling underneath as if made from water from a stream. The sun was shining from high overhead, beating down━for now, the feel and sound of snow crunching underneath their paws was foreign to them. The group of three wolves, with the smallest at their heels, making four, emerge into a sheltered clearing, giving some shade and relief from the warmth of the sun. The patrol pauses, however, as a scent reaches them. “Do you smell that, King Noctus?” The wolf at the King’s shoulder, her pelt a soft grey, spoke in the quiet. It was the scent of another wolf, approaching them. King Noctus’ eyes were fixed on the point where he assumed the wolf would emerge into the clearing. “Yes. Now, be on alert.” He rumbles in response, and the other wolves do, tensing in preparation, in fight or in chase. They are prepared for either.
xxxxA few short moments pass and the stranger they were waiting for finally emerges into the clearing. But, catching sight of what was waiting for him, he gives a yelp of alarm before turning and bolting in the direction he just came. ”Follow him!” The King howls and his patrol does with him before they race after the wolf, hard on his tail. The King’s lips are pulled back, revealing long, deadly incisors. And he gives a good chase, swift on his paws, but begins to slow, tiring with exhaustion. As he does, the grey female who had spoken earlier and another dark grey, almost black male both leap onto the wolf, bowling him over and pining him to the ground with their paws. The King stalks forward as the wolf squirms and struggles, snapping at the two wolves on top of him. The smallest of their patrols, a small brown female, trailed at his heels, looking at the scene with excitement.
xxxx“What is your name, and what are you doing on our territory?” Noctus snarls, and as he does so the wolf ceases in his struggle, knowing it futile. “My name is Stéphane. And I have lived on this territory of yours for years.” He responds, looking up at the King with defiant eyes. “You gave quite a chase. You’re fast....you could be useful.” He looks at his patrol, the two wolves pining him down. They exchange a glance before dipping their heads in agreement. Noctus looks back at Stéphane, studying him for a moment before he speaks. “If you would like, you could join us.”

xxxxThe patrol made their way back to camp, Stéphane at the King’s side as they climbed the steps of House Black’s castle residence. Once inside, the King turned to their newest packmate. “Follow Omen, Noelle, and Tazmanian. They will show you where you will sleep.” His gaze shifted from the two grey wolves, siblings, side by side, and then to the young pup beside him. He gave her a nudge, pushing her gently towards the other wolves. “Go and rest, Taz. You’ve had a big day.” The pup gave a yap of agreement and Noctus almost smiled before he turns, walking up the grand staircase to the room he shared with his mate, the Queen.
xxxxWhen he enters, Noctus pauses - on the bed is Catherine, at her belly four wriggling pups. “My gods, Catherine, they’re beautiful.” He breathes, jumping up beside her before curling his body around her, licking her ears, her muzzle, her face. “Yes, they are.” She murmurs, leaning into him for a moment before focusing on the pups, and both parents expressions reflected so much love. “There’s four of them, two males and two females. “Roman and Claude.” She murmurs, her nose brushing the two pups she just spoke of. “Roman? Like your cousin?” Noctus inquires. “Mm. And then there’s Margot, and our Dauphin, Francis.” The King’s gaze landed on the white pup, perhaps the biggest of them all. “He will be the greatest King House Black will ever have. I know it.”
