You travel through the dark forest, dried leaves crunching beneath your paws and bramble tendrils getting caught in your fur. A sense of foreboding surrounds you like a cloud as you get further and further, unsure where you've come from as all the flora starts to blend together. Your fur stands on end at the sound of a branch snapping, head whipping around to catch a glimpse of a dark brown blur before you're tackled to the ground.

"What are you doing here?" The stranger hisses as he pins you to the muddy ground, one large paw settled on your chest as he stands above you, muzzle-to-muzzle. "Who do you work for? What's your intention?" He's aggressive with it, even though his claws are sheathed and there's nothing but wariness in his eyes.

As quick as you can, you blabber about how you had just gotten lost in this forest, confused by the lack of sunlight. He stares at you just a moment more before the weight of his paw is gone, pacing away from you just a few steps. "Well, aren't you a fool? Don't you know it's the end of days out here? You should've guessed, with the Sun being gone and all."

There's a heavy sigh as he gives you a singular once-over, shoulders relaxing. "Guess I can take you under my wing. Come on, to my bunker. It's safer in there." The stranger turns and heads into a nearby bush, calling over his shoulder. "You can call me Bonesmasher!"

The stranger leads you deeper into the forest, silent the entire way as you follow behind him aimlessly. You start to wonder if he knows where he is going when he suddenly turns around, face set into a scowl. “Before I lead you to Firebreather’s sacred bunker, I need to know that you’re worthy. To see if you’re with the CIA or not.”

He glances around before leveling you with a gaze, brow furrowing. “If lava flooded the world right now, flowing against your paws, what would you do?”

"With the CI-" Wyre's face scrunches with what must be offense. She huffs at the tom. "I'm not any type of corpo, buddy. I'm with the Strigiform Parliament."
Her tail is lashing.
"And what kind of question is that? You have a regular problem with lava in these woods? Sound's like you might need to consider moving. Maybe somewhere with less dirt to pin a random passerby in. But sure, whatever, I'll entertain you."
She thinks for a handful of seconds - despite the distaste she speaks with, she's clearly committed to finding a suitable answer.
"I guess I'd climb a tree. That one."
She gestures at the tallest pine, tracing a path up the branches with her eyes.
"I'd start with that thick branch down there. Then leap to the one to the left. From there, it's easy money. And, if you were struggling to get yourself up in the branches, I'd even grab you by the scruff and haul you up behind me. I think we could find a safe spot in the nook up there. Of course, that would only give us until the molten rock ignited the tree, leaving us to a painful, fiery death. Might be better to just hunker down and accept our fate, if it's really the whole world flooding."

She walks towards the tree, flicking an ear. She spins on her haunches, remembering that she is, in fact, not the leader in this situation. Slightly flustered, she pads back to the side of the chocolate tom, before asking a question tinted with anxiety.

"Lava isn't really a problem here, right?"

Baby's gaze faltered for a moment - not for lack of confidence or anything; she was just trying to remember what lava was. Her clan was no where near a volcano - she hadn't even known what sand was until Rain explained it to her; she only knew what she had seen or theorirized. Even chaos's knowledge has it's bounds. Then, her black eyes glimmered.

"Aha! Lava is that uh, glowy magma stuff, right? It looks really tasty." She paused for a moment, her brows furrowing before she scoffed, as if something the tom had said just registered. "Also, I would never work for the CIA. I'm independent chaos." Baby huffed at the notion.

How does she know what the CIA is, but not lava? Actually, maybe we don't want to know the answer to that.

"Well, with the sun gone having lava everywhere wouldn't be too bad. It could be the new sun .Buuut, the actual sun is really far away, the lava would be right here. And it would set trees on fire and melt things. Yeah, I guess lava would be more of a problem than I thought."

After a moment in thought, Baby's eyes narrowed. "Is it edible? Well, for me, anyway. I can't be lit on fire or burned; I'm immune to those things for some reason. It's how I can be so fluffy in the summer and still feel so cold." Baby's paw tapped against the ground for a moment before she nodded.

"Yeah. I'd unhinge my jaw like a snake and slurp up all the lava. Might take me a while to get around the whole planet, but it's the only way."

McBean had to stop in her tracks for just a moment. She replayed the question over agin in her head, making sure sure didn't mishear him. Did he just say 'lava'? Suddenly, the forest seemed more eerily quiet than it been before she arrived. The forest that surrounded them both was shocked into silence. McBean stared at the tan cat with an unreadable expression. A heartbeat passed before she let out a rumbling chortle.

"My dear friend, whatever made you think of such a question? Lava? There is no way lave would be able to engulf the world in its liquified flames! It's generally impossible for that to ever happen!"

She began to roll on the ground, tears sprouting from her eyes in her hysterical outburst. Just in the corner of her eye, she could spot how peeved Bonesmasher looked. Clearly he's not a fan of McBean not taking him seriously.

McBean rolled back onto her feet, gulping for air breath before continuing. "Oh Bonesmasher, such silly thoughts like that will surely stir up your brain one day. And as for the CIA, what in the sky above is that? Some kind of super secret spy club? C'mon now deary, how can you suspect I'm part of something I don't even know about?"

Bonesmasher glared at McBean before continuing down the dreary path. This time however, he's more tense that ever. MvBean followed the rear, a teasing glint in her eye. "Let's go back to that lava topic, shall we? If lava really were to flow at my paws, I'll just climb till the lava can't touch me!"

Bonesmasher rolls his eyes, flatting his ears in annoyance. Why didn't she start with that before?!

Answer:
Fluttering-spark’s stride does not falter, as they gesture for Bonesmasher to continue walking with a tilt of the head. However, their rapid blinking does betray their perplexion for a heartbeat, before they smooth out their face and suppose they must consider the question. All things considered, she seeks to answer a lot of seemingly odd questions, even ones her own brain comes up with.

“I didn’t see a volcano anywhere around here, I believe, so I wouldn’t worry too much about lava. I can’t see any event that would cause worldwide flooding either— but then again, who knows what the Roots Below have planned?” She shrugs, and shifts her gait for a moment to absentmindedly pat a paw at Catori, her matching moth companion.

“If lava were to suddenly flood us right now, though, I suppose the best I could do would be to follow the same protocols we use for flooding in Hsiin’al. Get to stable high ground, stick in a group with others so nobody is lost. It’d be nice if I could locate a chrii with elemental abilities nearby, one with any control over fire or water just in case it could assist. I’m sure Catori would be happy to help pass messages between chriin if the group were split up. Past that, there’s not much I could do aside from use my knowledge to look to the Stars Above for guidance!”

With a glance back to Bonesmasher, Fluttering-spark tipped their head in curiosity, and muse, “I can’t say I’ve heard of a ‘CIA’ before, by the way. What is that?” Based on his tone, they could assume it wasn’t a good thing. Part of her is just a tiny bit offended that she may seem like the kind of chrii worthy of all that suspicion.

John looks dully at the stranger, thoroughly unamused as he analyzes the situation. ‘BoneSmasher’ called it his bunker, then called it FireBreather’s bunker, a small inconsistency that’s likely meaningless, but he takes note of it nonetheless.

After the unofficial staring contest concludes, he replies. “I WISH I worked for the CIA. I’ll bet I’d get paid more.” Wouldn’t that be nice… hey, you know, if this guy’s so paranoid, maybe there’s reward money on his head… just kidding…. Unless….

“Listen, is this a trick question, or are you just stupid?” He continues without waiting for a reply. “If lava were flowing against my feet I’m pretty sure I’d be dead, either that, or I’d bear a striking resemblance to Anakin Skywalker.” He somehow doubts that BoneSmasher is as amused by this joke as he is.

“Yeah yeah, I KNOW that’s probably not what you meant. Uh let’s see, if lava suddenly flooded the world, I’d be pretty annoyed. Probably try to contact my associate to get me the hell off of this world. I guess you could come too, doing my duty as an average person with some amount of morals, not leaving the person I’m with to die a horrible death and all that.”

He’s actually kind of invested now. “Well… this is of course assuming that I somehow survived the initial flood, in this scenario of yours I have to be somehow alive enough to have a reaction. Meaning we’re currently not standing on the lowest ground, I’d obviously keep going to higher ground. Everything depends on the height accessible from this location, as well as the speed that the lava’s rising. I guess if contacting my partner was a bust I’d probably ask you for ideas, and then pray to this world’s deities ‘cause that’s about all I’ve got when it comes to stuff like lava.”

John hopes that the world doesn’t flood with lava. He really doesn’t want to deal with that right now.
