Welcome to the petalux database!

this is where all genetic information on markings, flowers, etc., is kept

🌷 Petalux 🌷: Genetics Database - Overview

Postby azemyc » Tue Apr 22, 2025 2:24 pm

ImageImage

Image
genetics overview

petalux use a soft genetics system.
this means that not every aspect of the design is a part of a genetic string.

base color, eye color, flower color and design, are not part of a genetic string,
and are inherited using typical CS UMA/Closed Species breeding methods like
pattern and color mixing. for artists, these are free choices.

markings or base color modifiers and flower type are part of a genetic string, however.
this allows for hybridization of flowers + marking types in special circumstances.

how to write a genetics string:

    -----
    ---

base color info:

    -----
    ---

Re: 🌷 Petalux 🌷: Flower Genetics

Image
flowers

flowers come in both real and fantasy species here in petalux.
most commonly real species are seen, though more rare species can be
obtained through breeding or events. flowers can mimic dinosaur
traits like feathers, scales, osteoderms, or horns.

flower genetics operate on a single allele and are codominant.
this means, for example, a Rose is RsRs, but a hybrid rose (custom lineart)
could be RsBh.
the database below will be updated with time and discoveries

sometimes, petalux may display non-flower plant related growth instead or, or alongside
their flower growth.

shadow markings

shadow markings are markings that darken the color of the base.
they are usually transparent, but can be customized in terms of transparency.
they utilize multiply, burn or color burn, or other 'darkening' layering settings.
they are never under 5% transparency, and are never over 65% transparency.

the database below will be updated with time and discoveries
currently working on genetic strings for these

sunlight markings are markings that lighten the base color.
they are usually transparent, but can be customized in terms of transparency.
they utilize screen, overlay, or other 'lightening' affects for layer settings.
they are never under 5% transparency, and are never over 65% transparency.

Re: 🌷 Petalux 🌷: White Markings

Postby azemyc » Tue Apr 22, 2025 3:55 pm

Image
white markings

petalux have a piebald-like gene that regulates the expression of white markings.
these markings may not be more than 90% transparent, and must be white or off-white.
their edges may be softened for artistic reasons.
individual expressions may vary - this guide shows the maximum cover allowed.

the piebald marking has a 'Y/N' allele coupled with the 'marking' allele.
YY or YN means that they display the 'marking' allele.
NN means they carry it, and do not display the 'marking' allele.
a petalux inherits a 'marking' allele on a 50/50 chance from each parent.

Re: 🌷 Petalux 🌷: Dye Markings

Image
dye markings:

dye markings are markings that can be any color, and any transparency or
layer setting, and are not dependent on the base color.
their edges may be softened.

the visuals below are style guides and maximum allowance guides.

currently there are two 'families' of markings.
spot and stripes.
they operate similarly to white markings with a 'Y/N' and 'marking' allele.
petalux may have both spot and stripe markings, and they may interact
if both are displayed or even if a spot 'carries' a stripe.

the database below will be updated with time and discoveries

mutations

sometimes, petalux have odd mutations.
these mutations include chimerism, albinism, melanism, leucism,
additional eyes/limbs/tails/heads, and other things.

mutations have no set rarity.
mutations have their own unique alleles, and are capable of passing.

the database below will be updated with time and discoveries
