super wip so please do not post here yet, and mostly just jumbled notes here right now. titles and such are taken from AKC and other kennel clubs with some edits here and there for fun or ease. everything will be rng based with some earned titles giving boosts for other trials.
planned trials are either:
tracking, obedience, and schutzhund/ipo + conformation
or
agility, obedience, and mondioring + conformation
a bit undecided on which set to use, if you are here and happen to have an opinion on which one should be used i would love it if you pm'd me and let me know which one you like better! all of this stuff is coming from someone who does not show or trial dogs in any way irl lol, so if you happen to be someone who does i'd like to know what you think.
if you have no clue what any of this means (or maybe just dont know what ipo or mondio are) the quick run down of each sports are
Obedience: pretty self explanatory, a dog is trained to follow a obedience routine in different environments with varying levels of distraction and complexity.
Tracking: these are essentially competitive/game-afied search and rescue trials. a human tracklayer leaves a trial through different environments to find dropped items. as the trials get more difficult, other scents and distractions are included to try and confuse the dog.
Agility: one of the more popular sports, in agility trials a dog is lead through a course of obstacles by their handler. obstacles include hurdles of different heights, weave poles, see-saws, a-frame, elevated walkways, tunnels, and more. the goal is to make it through as quickly and with as few faults/errors as possible.
Schutzhund/IPO: Schutzhund is a sport with three parts or phases: tracking, obedience, and protection work. the tracking and obedience are similar to their independent trials, with some herding trials added to the obedience sections and more intense diractions (such as gunshots). The protection phase involves bite work and shows off a dog's strength and courage. a dog is expected to locate, guard, and attack a decoy (a person wearing protective gear). The decoy will attempt to threaten the dog with aggressive posturing and weapons like sticks (they will not hurt the dog. They're trying to shake their confidence, not hurt them). The dog should attack with a strong bite to the padded and protected arm of the decoy with no hesitation when given the command and stop just as quickly. IPO was intended to show off a dogs working ability and endurance in an effort to find ideal breeding partners, mostly for German Shepherds. It is older and more established than mondio, and tends to be more popular with German Shepherd and Malinois handlers (and other breeds like Doberman but focusing on breeds associated with the stillehond for this.)
Mondioring: Mondio is fairly similar to IPO, but the tracking is replaced by a more agility focused routine (the obstacles are typically more difficult and demanding than a standard agility trials, the emphasis is not on speed but power and exceptional physical ability). The main event is again protection and bite work. Decoys in mondio use things like fake guns or sticks and batons to threaten the dogs as they come at them (again the dog is not harmed!) Decoys in mondio wear fully body protective gear and dogs can bite anywhere on that gear (unlike IPO which has the one accepted target of the arm) Mondio trials are usually set up around different themes each time with themed props and set ups in the ring in an effort to keep each trial as unique as possible. The tasks will remain the same, but the order and placement changes with each trial and different judge. It's popular among people who find the IPO scene lacking or undesirable in some aspects, and is popular among Malinois handlers.
In game here, dogs who have high titles in tracking/agility and obedience will receive benefits and boosts to their ipo/mondio scores.
again, if you find any of my information or understanding incorrect or otherwise lacking please shout at me in the dm's
