Q & A - Archives, Coops & Permissions

Archives, Coops & Permissions

What happened to my old Chimkin? Where can I find them, and can I still use them in v2?
Your Chimkin are right where you left them! A v1 archive has been made and all 1,066 Chimkin are recorded with owner ID's.
Open up the archive and search your CS user ID to find your Chimkin!

Yes, your Chimkin are still available for use in v2. Some traits have changed (either altered or removed entirely) and may behave differently going forward into the new launch, but there is no need to worry about transfers into v2.

Why do I need a coop? How often do I need to update it? Do I need to name all of my Chimkin?
A coop is essential to keep track of all of your Chimkin in one place. Preferably a standalone character storage thread (or TH folder), as long as it's easy to navigate and all important information is there. In v2, hens and roosters have a limited number of breeding slots (5 for hens and 10 for roosters respectively) and each of those slots need to be updated whenever it's used, or you've traded or given permission to use your Chimkin in a breeding to someone else.

Coops should be updated every time before attempting to use the Hatchery. Any time you've given away breeding slots or recently bred a hen or a rooster, those slots need to be updated. Failure to do so will unfortunately leave you chick-less.

Yes, you need to name all of your Chimkin! This doesn't need to be right away, you can take a few days to think of something that fits, that's fine! However, you cannot trade slots to hens or roosters if they aren't named and don't exist in your coop yet, nor can you breed them.

What if I had permissions for someone else's hen/rooster in v1, do I still get to use those? Will it use up my rooster's slots if I gave some away?
All of your permissions are still usable as long as you have them! No, older exchanged permissions will not use up any of your rooster's slots. I have no idea of knowing just how many slots were given away prior to the change.

Only permissions exchanged after v2 has launched will count towards your roo's slots.
The only exception here are hens, which originally had 4 slots.

Q & A - Banks & Items

Banks & Items

Where is the bank? Do I still need to operate my own? What happens to all of my old items and SS?
The bank is now located on a Google spreadsheet document! You can find it in the "official links" channel.

No, you do not have to keep track of your own bank. Everything will be recorded by our archivist (who at this time is myself) and it will be updated immediately (or at least as soon as I'm able) after items are won, purchased or used, and at the end of special events.

If you kept your banks updated in v2 (the newer bank, not the outdated one) your items and SS are still recorded. I did a poor job of staying on top of all of that, so unfortunately some items or SS may be lost. There will be plenty of opportunities to get some of those things back, though! If you notice any shop items missing from your bank, please provide me with proof of purchase and I will update that for you.

Can I still use items on v1 Chimkin?
Unfortunately, no. Going forward into the new launch, items may only be used on MYO's (at any time, during or after their creation, please use the Item Use thread when applying items to a MYO that has already been approved) or breedings/customs at the time of creation. The only exceptions to this are limited-event MYO's where the only items that may be used are found during parterned events.

Can I use items on customs (MYO or otherwise) and breedings, that aren't specifically for breeding?
Yes! Items are usable on both customs and breedings. As long as the item is in your bank, you may use it at any time.
The only exception may be special MYO events, where items are not available for use. It will explicitly say so if that's the case.

So, theoretically, I could get away with purchasing a basic MYO Ticket and use a bunch of items I have in my bank on it?
Yes! You absolutely can! Even event or holiday-specific items. It's up to you to decide how to use them!

Q & A - Banned & Deactivated Users

Banned & Deactivated Users

What happens to a banned user's Chimkin and items?
If a user is banned, one of two things may happen.

Any items or Chimkin won through free adopts or giveaways will be revoked and distributed back into the community. Artists get first dibs on their creations, and they have the option of keeping or re-adopting them out.

Any Chimkin that were purchased with C$ or USD will remain in the banned user's custody. Their Chimkin will "cease to exist" and items will be void.

What happens when a user deactivates their CS account?
Same thing as above. Chimkin cannot be taken off-site for other use, but I can't stop anyone from keeping something they paid for. Items will be void, but Chimkin may be readopted out or reclaimed by artists.

There are crossed out Chimkin in the archives that were free adopts. Why have they not been reclaimed?
Chimkins was on a year-long hiatus and during that time, some users have either deactivated their accounts or have been banned by myself upon the relaunch. Because it's been so long, there is unfortunately not much I can do at this point. Any Chimkin "crossed out" are void. They cannot be interacted with, and any permissions a user may have for them are also void.

Going forward with the new launch, this new banning and redistributing system will take effect.

What about event MYO's?
The fate of a MYO is similar to customs with one particular change; it can't be traded. The Chimkin itself will no longer be associated with the species, and therefore cannot be interacted with. The design itself can be transferred off of the species as long as it doesn't have any of the species-identifying traits.

Q & A - Staff Positions

Postby Pandapop » Sun Jul 28, 2024 4:25 am

Staff Positions

Why is there no artist application? How do I become an artist?
I'm doing things a little unconventionally. There's no artist search application because I need members on the team that are already dedicated to the species.
People see a shiny new thing and want to get in on it, then quickly realize it's not for them. I want to try to avoid all that and seek people out that genuinely enjoy being here.
Willingness to cooperate and communicate are incredibly important, and I can't tell if that'll be an issue with regular ol' ASE.

If I'm looking for artists, I'll mention it. For the first few months of the new launch, I am not seeking any new artists.
I may invite a few people I work with from other closed-species groups, simply because I know they're capable of working things out if issues arise.

Why is there no other active staff? Wouldn't it be easier to have more people helping with different roles?
I will take on more staff if things become too much to handle alone. Right now, I am managing just fine. Sometimes it's easier to get things done quickly and efficiently if you don't have to wait around on someone else's schedule!

The plan is to seek out help with other staff roles, yes, but it's not necessary at this time.

Q & A - Adopts, Customs, MYO's & PPS

Postby Pandapop » Fri Aug 02, 2024 7:54 am

Adopts, Customs, MYO's & PPS

What are Mystery Chick Batches?
A Mystery Chick Batch is a group of five (5) chicks released at a single time, available for adoption for free or C$.

Mystery Chicks are just that -- a mystery! You won't know what traits they've got, or what colors they may be until they've fully grown (which is one week after the time of posting), but their chick feathers (as well as beak/legs) will at least give you a little hint. These chicks will always be hens unless otherwise stated, and are more commonly of the Standard variety.

Some traits like Eye/Claw Glow, or Moon Gift will visually show on the chick, most do not.

What are PPS Chicks? What can I do with them? How do I get one?
PPS stands for "Peter Pan Syndrome," and similar to how CS has PPS pets, Chimkin do too! These chicks will have their adult coloration, but they will never grow. They cannot breed, and therefore do not have any breeding slots.

These little chicks are collectables! At some point they will be used in mini events, but for now they're just a fun little thing to collect and keep in your coop.

PPS Chicks are awarded during events (Scavenger Hunts, Color-In events, etc) or can be created via PPS Pill found in the shop. These pills are only redeemable on the Discord, however!

What's the difference between a custom and a MYO?
MYO's are created by you, the individual. Customs are purchased by one of the artists, who will create something for you instead, usually for C$ or USD (there may occasionally be customs offered for free via Discord raffles).

MYO's are Standards (typically hens), while customs can be any of the Chimkin types (hens or roosters, excluding Easters outside of their respective months). Customs are the only way to get limited traits outside of breeding, milestones or paid adopts.

If I win a MYO Ticket and can't make it myself, can I have someone else do it for me?
You absolutely can! Sometimes one of the artists may offer to help out with that, too. Anyone can help you make your MYO as long as they follow the Trait Guide and general Chimkin rules when it comes to designing one. If someone else has offered to make your MYO it must be done so for free as these cannot be paid for.

The only downside to having someone else make your MYO is you may not be able to go back and edit it afterwards. The artist who made yours may be unavailable.

Why are staff participating in adopts? Can't they just make their own?
Staff are welcome to enter in any adopt, free or otherwise. Yes, they can make their own monthly customs, but they are just as entitled as everyone else to participate, especially if they've been putting in the work. I will never tell my staff they can't enter for adopts made by other artists.

Will I be added to the drawing of the adopt I won?
No, sorry. If you need a transparent background, take the image link and replace the "auto" part with "png." This will turn a flat image into a transparent one. I will not provide breakdowns of adopts (patterns under traits like piebald or patterned white for example) and I won't ask my artists to either. What you see is what you get!
