With the ever-growing size of the WERMZ community, we are once again in need of staff.
We're currently hiring for the following positions:

Staff Applications Are Currently CLOSED

All applicants will be reviewed and chosen by staff as a whole, choosing who we think best fits the positions and needs of the community. Applicants may be hired on in small waves rather than all at once.

You can apply for both breeding artist and regular artist if you choose and both are open!

Please not ask any staff whether you will be hired or not, or how your application is fairing; if you are found to be doing this you will be immediately disqualified from current and future staff applications.

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?: I've always loved the versatility of the wermz lineart, even back when the first round of artist applications were going on! I think being a wermz artist would be a really good opportunity for me to shine, and I think I'd be a great asset to the team as I'm able to do both complex and simple edits! Either way, thank you for the opportunity! Working on these lil guys were fun <3





Tell us a bit about this werm/s:

1 and 1.5: Bernadette. She's an example as to just how complex I can get in terms of edits and coloring. I feel, despite the fact that she's a year old, she still accurately represents just how well I can do on big linearts.

2: Fishbowl Gater Werm! Represents some of my more simple edits, but some decently complex patterns.

3: Yarn Fox Werm. Represents Some simple coloring with big edits. Typically what most of my litters would probably look like.

4: Euclid. Shows off a smaller, but still detailed custom idea

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?:
i love wermz and miss being apart of the staff (even though i was just a mod before). i've always wanted to be an artist since i first laid eyes on these funky fellas and be more active in the community, especially now that i'm not as busy as i was before. so here's my artist entry !

trash panda: for some reason during my time as a mod i had this idea for a trash panda werm and couldn't get it out of my head. i started working on it in the background but got too busy to finish it and artist apps eventually closed. so ! since they've reopened i've taken the chance to finish trash panda. just a little thief that really likes shiny things.
mer werm: recently i've been working on my own closed species, mers ! so i wanted to do something inspired by my love of mermaids and make a mer werm. it also showcases one of my coolest pixel abilities: making gradients by hand without any tools. [made in roughly 30 minutes after finishing trash panda]

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?: Wermz quickly became a huge interest of mine when 2 irl friends got me involved!! I love these silly string beans and designing them for personal customs, and even customs for other users and even artists! I love this community and would absolutely cherish my time, be it apart of the staff or not! I love creating for others, and I feel like wermz will help me expand my creativity in an active group of so many great people 💖

1: a little silly standard with a purple and pink palette! Just putting lines where lines look good
2: Pangolin!!!! I absolutely love the idea of a pangolin werm and decided this would be a great way to make a complicated guy
3: ocean man, but with stars!! I just really liked this palette and it made me think of the shore where the tide looks almost like hard gradients against the sand 💖

Why do you want to be a breeding artist for WERMZ?
Being a breeding artist allows me to create for others, allowing them to expand lore, make silly guys, combine so many pretty and special designs, and bring joy! I love seeing breedings and think they would be so much fun to create! Such silly creatures, even though it has guides this time, there's still SO MUCH room for creativity ! 💖

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?: Wermz lines are fun to create designs on and I would make some neat lines and designs for you guys. ^^
Most of these you've seen, but I am still interested in trying out for artist.


Astral Fire - An underworld goddess with flame-like hair.


Ice Dragon - Was thinking about bearded dragons, hubby suggested colors. Probably guards some treasure in a cave, dragon things!


Peachy Maiden - Color palette is inspired by peach desserts and I wanted a more soft and flowy design. She seems like the type to wear gorgeous summery dresses!


Robo Bunny - Robot rabbit with a jelly torso for extra maneuverability during binkies!


Cookies and Milk - Piebald werm inspired by cookie crumble desserts.


Neon Boi - Tried to go out of my comfort zone a bit with a more simplistic design and stark markings. This is a cool guy.


Jungle Wildcats - Big-cat creatures, they would probably live in a jungle environment where they could blend into the foliage.

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?: I feel as if the werm community has become a nice home for me, somewhere where I can share my experiences and art with t everyone here. The positivity is simply outstanding and I can’t help but want to loiter and provide when possible, and I think the best way for me to give back to such a welcoming community is to become an artist, so that I can make cute little critters for people to enjoy. Even if I’m not chosen, I still appreciate the opportunity and will continue to enjoy my little slice of werm life.

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?:
I love seeing all the creativity happening in the wermz discord, it's such a lively and fun place to be in! There's just something about the werm lineart that makes it so perfect to draw anything on it- it must be the simplicity or the size because all that I've seen so far is unique, but you can still tell, "Oh yeah that's a werm!"

I'd love to be an artist for wermz because I believe I could make some really great designs and bring in new ideas! I love collabing with other artists too, and I have loads of energy to draw more. Personally I think I work best with customs and ideas that need to be applied to a single area (so a custom werm in this case, not a litter) but I can always improve.

Odd Customs


Tell us a bit about this werm/s:
For the standard litter I did a more simple design, I think they'd be great for a non-owner litter! My odd litter is the complete opposite, I did more details and different colors- I was really inspired by stars and a sort of "seaside" vibe with the ocean pattern overlay inside the stars themselves.

All the odd customs were inspired by different things, the very first one with the crystal is my recent work (I kind of prepped for the application months before oops) I was thinking of a werm that could fit into some sort of "lore" while I was drawing, perhaps a scientist or scavenger? I also added some clothing items onto them to show that I'm capable of creating items/clothing as well. The ocean tail werm didn't have a specific direction, I just wanted to draw something tropical! The gray and brown one just has a mish-mash of things and vibes I really like.

The other two are based on real animals, specifically the bearded vulture and treron vernans pigeon.

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?: Wermz were the first uma I joined, I quickly came to love the art and the community. The design of the wermz allows so much freedom for creativity which is something I really appreciate. I love creating art for others to enjoy, which I also do as my actual job! I love making people happy! I'd also love to give back to community for all that I received. Whenever I'd win a werm, the excitement would last for days... I hope to be able to do the same for others! I also would be honoured to work alongside all the talented artists on the team and hone my skills and constantly improve! I'm excited for all the design challenges i might face!

STANDARD WERMZ

I created these standard wermz, I wanted to show different ways of shading and different styles and techniques I use. I wanted to make some simpler and some more complex designs.

ODD WERMZ

reptilian goof. I was inspired by snakes' tails and frogs' mouth. I wanted to create something simple yet captivating.

I really wanted to include the older versions to show my progress and the different styles I can work with.
This litter is inspired by teas! I created a few inspired by real teas and one magical tea to show the variety of use for the lines! I also decided to try using actual transparency rather than just faking it.

simple litter lines inspired by my slavic (specifically góralskie) traditional clothing. It mainly inspired the lace work, colours and patters. the changed anatomy (ears and tails) were inspired by lynxes which were animals that were an endangered polish species when i was growing up. i created this to show my work with references and a bit less stylised patterns

this litter is inspired by magical samurais. I wanted to show off a more complex design idea; with more complex shadings and smaller details.

for this litter i wanted to show my material manipulation. i wanted to create a deity-like werm lines

CUSTOMS

for this werm i took inspiration from some of my favourite plants! Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma (fake monstera), pink princess, white prince and one of my philodendrons! the werm is covered in roots, as most of these plants grow aerial roots! i also played around with bloom effect to create fireflies. I wanted to show stylisation with a mix of realism and a mix of different shading techniques

I mainly wanted to show that i can work with dark saturated colours and more complex designs as well as a complex shading that accurately creates the shape . This werm is a demon with four wings. it's body is imbedded with gold. I again used the bloom effect to show the brightness and creating an intimidating, evil vibe

BREEDING APPLICATION

Why do you want to be a breeding artist for WERMZ? Mainly the same reasons as the ones I put in my artist application. It also is very excited to work with others' creations to make something unique! we get to play god in wermz universe

for my application I chose these two wermz:

I chose them because of the fun patterns and lovely colours! I also had an idea for the crystals that i wanted to try out!

I mainly just swapped the colours and a bit of the patterns.
for the one on the left I used the patterns to create similar shapes to what we could see on the parent werm (werm 2)

i tried combining the two wermz, I made the stars into crystals, created an ombre effect on the patterns to match the parent (werm 5). I also wanted to give them closed eyes, i made them a bit different shape though, to match the other's parent eye length

fusion shard breeding!
I decided to try making a fusion breeding as i felt like it would greatly show my skills for both a breeding artist and a general art position. I found this to be very fun!!

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?:
Wermz was the first UMA I got involved in! I actually met one of my closest friends through the community and we now run our own UMA, Aeros. I've been wanting to get involved since I first joined the discord and reignited my love for creating artwork and designs for others to enjoy.

I’ve come to love interacting with others, making friends, and bringing ideas to life. It’s so rewarding to successfully create a character for someone to love. I also love the lore behind Wermz and have always enjoyed apocalypse settings. I think I’d be great at staying active in the community.

Odd Customs

1. Garden Ferret
I LOVE to create natural, cottagecore-esque designs. I also love to include accessories with my designs to really add that extra oomf. This custom showcases what I'm most happy creating.

2. Starry Butterfly
This entry shows my skills on the opposite end of the spectrum, away from natural design and more focused on darker, unnatural colors.

3. Clam!
The original idea for this one was “pearl”. I wanted to try something different with more extreme line edits.

4. Robot Aviator
Browns/oranges/yellows are such fun colors to work with. I wanted to add a mechanical aspect with the arm so I could add some more detail and character to the design.

Litter 1 (Standard Wermz)



I wanted to try something a little different with these. Rather than individually changing the palettes of each werm, I played around with layers on top of the original design to create different outcomes. They're definitely more saturated than what I would normally go for, but I think this gives them a more interesting look.

TREEHOPPER BUG ‼️‼️ I think treehoppers are rlly cute and deserved a werm form.

Thought it might be neat to make a litter with more lineart edits than the treehopper bugs. Lately I’ve been especially inspired by fantasy aesthetics (specifically knights) and wanted to make some Wermz to represent that. I went for a warm palette, a cool palette, and a pink/purple palette to show some diversity.

Why do you want to be an artist for WERMZ?:
I absolutely love this little community! Wermz is the only UMA Im currently active in
and it means a lot to me its such a nice and friendly group!!
I was an artist for Skae when it was active and it was genuinely one of the most fun things I've done
and I'd love to be able to do that again
I really love drawing these little guys and I think it'd be super fun to be able to design them
as well as give back to everyone here!

Litters

I really wanted to try and do something with limb edits, specifically the paws covering the face

Sparkledog/Scene kid inspired!
I added a big fluffy hat, wings, a tail edit, and changed the eyes to be a bit more anime!

I wanted to try something with a bit of a darker theme and I really like how the wings turned out!

Customs

Concept I went in with this one was Purple Mystical Unicorn Fairy!
It was fun figuring out getting the transparent wings to look right.
I also always love drawing fluff and fur so I decided to edit it to be long furred

Wanted to do something more nature themed and thought a wisteria would be cool as a tail!

Standards

I saw this picture of a teal rose and went "ooo that would be a cool werm"
but then it needed something else to make it pop and I think gold with teal is so beautiful and so the snake was born!

I love drawing stripes and figured I could use an example with a softer palette so I decided to do a cute pastel tiger
