Anubis House:A large pyramid dominates the center of the yard, illuminated by spotlights from all sides. There is a definite egyptian theme here - the walkway is lined with miniature sphinxes and banners painted with hieroglyphics hang from the second story windows of this house. Fittingly, the Anubis house is right next door to the mummy house. By the front door there are two lit torches beside large dark statues with humanoid bodies and animal heads. As you look around the yard you get the uneasy feeling of being watched, and catch a glimpse of something sitting at the base of one of the statues on the front steps. As you walk up the front steps though, you realize there is nothing there. When you turn around though you catch sight of a puppy dragging one of the mummy decorations from the neighboring yard into a dark bush by the side of the Anubis house.
The Bumblebee House:This yard is practically bursting with large colorful flowers. A few of them look real, like the large sunflowers by the front steps and mums and asters along the walkway, but the rest are definitely hand-made. There is a large spotlight shining down onto the yard from the roof, giving the appearance of the sun being out. You walk up to a large amaryllis the size of a dinner plate and kneel down to touch it and realize that it's made of a mix of construction and tissue paper. While admiring the flowers you notice some fake roses rustling and a small puppy jumps out at you, gives your outstretched hand a quick nip, then runs back into the flowers, dragging the large amaryllis with them. You could have sworn that the puppy had a large set of wings, but the bright light from the 'sun' makes it hard to see into the shadows under the flower arrangements where the puppy disappeared into.
Cat House:For some unknown reason, whoever decorated this house decided to put cats everywhere. Fake felines are scattered around the house in various positions, some looking out the windows of the house, others lounging by a small fake campfire, playing with toys, and even more sun themselves in beams of light from flashlights hung in the trees. Upon closer inspection of the cats they all appear to be stuffed animals, and you bend over to pick one up. As you reach out to the toy the cat next to it comes to life, leisurely stretching before reaching over with one paw to drag the stuffed cat away from you before settling down to go back to sleep - clearly you're not touching that toy.
Dragon House:The yard of the dragon house is filled with dragons of all kinds! There is a dragon perched on the low branches of a tree, a large stuffed dragon lounging on top of a car, tiny plastic dragons set up in ‘caves’ inside carved pumpkins, and two large dragons breathing smoke guard a treasure hoard of candy on the front steps. As you carefully approach the hoard, you trip the motion detection for the two dragons guarding the hoard. They turn their heads towards you, flapping their wings and opening and closing their jaws as smoke spills from their mouths. The smoke tumbles down the front steps, briefly obscuring the hoard of candy, but when you bend over to pick up a few pieces you’re startled as a small puppy starts barking and leaps from the pile at you! You take a few steps backwards, surprised, and the puppy returns to the pile of candy, settling down on it and gives you a glare. Perhaps you’ll pick up some candy at the next house…
Fire House:Flames flicker throughout the yard of the fire house - mostly fake fires are burning around the yard but there is one real one by the front steps of the house. The smell of smorez drifts on the wind, and you eagerly approach the small campfire with a table set up with graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. As you toast a marshmallow in the fire you take a moment to look around the yard, noticing a small fireman action figure holding a dripping garden hose in an attempt to put out one of the fake fires in the yard. You chuckle and return your focus to the marshmallow only to find it on fire! You hurriedly shake it to put the fire out and assemble a smore, putting the marshmallow stick on the edge of the campfire as you put together the graham crackers and chocolate, but when you turn back to grab your marshmallow it’s gone! You look around to see a small red puppy sprinting around the yard with your marshmallow stick in its mouth. After a brief chase, you are able to recover both your stick and your marshmallow, and return to the fire with the puppy eagerly following at your heels, waiting for another opportunity to grab the wooden stick.
The Full Moon House:This house has its yard decorated with a number of moons, including a large moon projected on the front of the house. A corner of the yard is decorated like the moon’s surface, complete with dusty white stones, a small American flag, and a little rover. Fittingly it is across the street from the werewolf house. There’s a small puppy sitting on the front steps by one of the carved pumpkins howling its head off. Every time it's howl tapers off it takes a large breath before immediately starting again. While cute at first you're starting to get a little concerned as the puppy simply won't stop howling, so you try to distract it, but as you get between the puppy and the moon it stops howling, gives you a
very distasteful look, and repositions itself so it can see the moon again. When it starts howling again this time somehow it's tiny howl is even louder and more grating on your ears - perhaps you should check out another house to give your ears a break.
The Hellhound House:A thick carpet of smoke coats the ground around the hellhound house. You carefully walk up a path lined with tombstones as large, dark canid creatures watch from beyond the tombstone fence. Unnervingly, their eyes seem to follow you as you walk, and the clank of chains behind you makes you pick up the pace. The front door of the house is lit up red, and two large hellhound statues are placed behind two cauldrons of flickering flames, guarding a third cauldron of candy placed on the front steps. As you approach the statues' eyes glow and their jaws drop, revealing rows of sharp teeth and a glowing throat. You quickly grab a few candies before turning around to leave, but find your path blocked by a small puppy who has materialized out of nowhere. The two of you stare at each other for a few moments before the puppy slinks off into the smoke, but you can feel it's eyes watching you as you hurriedly leave the yard.
The Mummy House:Fittingly the mummy house is right next to the Anubis and Skeleton houses. Mummies saunter across the yard, emerge from coffins, and drag themselves through the grass. Recordings of groans play from the trees and as you walk past one of the mummies close to the path it's head jerks towards you and its eyes light up - spooky! Whoever has decorated this house has decided to mummify the landscaping too - the trees and bushes are wrapped with toilet paper. As you approach the front steps you see a small bush seemingly get up and run across the yard, wait, that was a puppy! The pup is wrapped like a mummy, but as you watch it run across the yard one of the bandages comes loose and it trips over it. You hurry over to check on the puppy to make sure it's okay, but before you get to it the pup has picked itself up and starts to play with the loose bandage. You carefully tie off the bandage so it won't come loose again and spend a few minutes playing with the puppy before moving on to the next house.
The Skeleton House:The yard of this house is filled with all kinds of skeletons and bones- there is a tall skeleton standing by the front door with a bowl of candy, an even taller skeleton that towers over the yard whose head reaches the second story windows of the house, tombstones with skeletal arms and legs reaching out from the ground, and a number of bones and skulls scattered across the yard. As you walk past a parked car there’s even a couple of skeletons in the driver and passenger seats. Movement catches the corner of your eye and you see one of the skulls on the front lawn rise into the air before making a beeline for one of the shallow graves with scattered bones. You approach to find a small puppy digging in the dirt, trying to bury a bone. The puppy looks displeased that you interrupted its digging, and after kicking a little bit of dirt onto your shoes it picks up the bone and walks off into the shadows of the yard to find another place to bury it.
The Werewolf House:Fittingly the werewolf house is placed across the street from the full moon house. Various decorations of canine, human, and combinations of the two decorate this yard. One of the decorations moves - transforming from a four-legged canine to a standing werewolf. The decoration throws its head back in a jerky motion and gives an electronic howl, which is then joined by a very real howl from behind you. Spinning around it takes you a moment to see a dark-colored puppy sitting on the walkway behind you. As soon as the puppy leaves the lit walkway you almost immediately lose it in the dark, but after a few uneasy moments you spot
their eyes reflecting from the lights of the full moon house across the street as they watch you from the bushes.
