You’ve had quite enough of running headlong through the woods with your faithful steed for one day, your legs and rear were aching and your horse was looking a bit run down too. You stabled your horse in a comfortable stall for the night, grabbed and threw on your costume and went to the center of the island to join in the festivities. Warm food and drink were aplenty to stave off the cutting chill of the ocean’s winds that blew over this place, piercing through your well-thought out and planned outfit for the occasion. You rested with friends new and old for awhile, when an announcement was made that it was last call for the trick or treat booth at the island’s manor. While laughing with your friends and thoughtfully planning for the next round up, you had totally forgotten about one of the best things about Halloween! Your group hurriedly threw away your trash from the meal and headed down the winding dirt path on foot to the manor, following dim lights and fun signs that pointed in the correct direction, some Halloween decorations rattling in the breeze. If it had not been for your friends, you might have been kind of creeped out. It was very quiet despite all of the noise and laughter at the center of the island, eerily quiet. Your friends were feeling it too, as a lull and hush had come over the group as you walked. The walk was not far thankfully; the lights from the large house ahead illuminating the lawn which was decorated with fun things like plastic tombstones and skeletons and zombies crawling up from under the earth. As your group approached the well lit front porch, you felt happy and at peace again.
There was a long table set up with a cover over it decorated in spiders and their webs, a very pretty young woman with short brown hair and lightning blue eyes, that twinkled in the lights with a vixen’s mischief. The young woman was dressed as a vampire, or a vampire’s victim perhaps, seeming unbothered by the chilly island and the quiet calm of the night, despite ghouls and specters roaming the Den not at all far from here. If you listened closely, you thought you could still here the banshee wailing of the horses, but you weren’t sure. Maybe your mind was just playing tricks on you now that the sun had long set and all was quiet.
“Welcome in, welcome! You’re the last group of the night, I was just about to close up shop and head to bed. Help yourselves, but remember, only take one.” She vaguely gestured to the large bowl sitting on the table in front of herself, still full to the brim with treats despite the sheer amount of riders that had come to Nightwing for this event.
