To the left of the lodge sits an older looking coffee shop with windows that are mostly obscured by colorful advertisements. Through the gaps in the multicolored paper you catch glimpses of the cozy atmosphere, reflecting a welcoming light onto the hardened snow below. The snow makes a satisfying crunch under your boots, yet with each step taken you can't help but be reminded of how the cold has seeped through. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad to partake in a hot beverage while your snow gear dries off. The howling wind seems to pick up, echoing the sentiment and you decide not to waste another minute out in the frosty atmosphere.

Inside the bustling cafe, you're greeted by the two kalons behind the counter.

The shorter of the two nods at you and turns back to the
drink she was preparing while the taller one sets a silver
canister onto the counter, “Welcome to The Polar
Espresso, today's special is the Pirandello,” They pause,
looking you over as a smirk crosses their face,
“But maybe you’re looking for something else?”

“Sunil,” The other barista says in warning, she sets a pale
cup onto the counter, Suni rolls their eyes but takes the
cup without another word and ducks around the counter
through a side door. “Sorry about them, why don't you
take a minute to get your gear off and think about your
order?”

Welcome to Kalokairi Village's local coffee shop, the Polar Espresso!

This is a combination trivia/prompt booth that will open every other day, for a total of 7 openings.
Please be sure to read all the rules before posting, and check the schedule here to see when each opening is!

You also must be signed up to participate - if you aren't yet, sign up here!

Each day you will either be given a Daily Trivia prompt by Mirjam, or an Open Mic Night prompt by Suni.

Daily Trivia

- For Daily Trivia, Mirjam will give you 5 coffee themed trivia questions in the opening post - each correct answer will earn you 2 tokens, for a total of 10 each day
- Answers must be pmed to Pallis with the title Daily Trivia within 48 hours, or when the booth opens next.
- If you don't get any answers right, that's okay! You'll be given a token for participating.
- Answers will be posted at rollover on the next booth opening (before open mic.)
- Your message will not be responded to unless there is something wrong!
If your bank balance or items have not been updated at the time of the next trivia opening, or you have any concerns please message me!

Open Mic Night

- For Open Mic Night Suni will give one prompt that you have 48 hours to complete. Anything posted past the closing post will not be counted.
- Responses must be posted on the thread with the provided forum.
- Prompts will be judged as follows:
1. 10 tokens will be awarded for answering the given prompt with either a) 200 words minimum writing or b) a clean, recognizable sketch.
2. you may submit both art and writing if you wish, but no extra tokens will be awarded.

You take a second to look at the menu before deciding, then step up to the counter to place your order.
The shorter barista - Mirjam, from what you can make out of the messy scrawl on her nametag -
takes your drink order without comment. She doesn't seem in the mood to mess around, unlike her
apparently much more playful coworker.

She rings you up and hands you the receipt, but you notice that she's slid a small wooden pencil and a
slip of paper on top of it. Looking closer, you see written at the top The Polar Espresso's Daily Trivia!,
and the numbers 1 through 5 evenly spaced across the rest of the paper.

"Oh, it's just this thing we do," Mirjam explains, seeing your puzzled face. She points out a large
chalkboard, titled Today's Trivia. "If you answer all of today's questions right, you can redeem
that for a free drink or pastry. Just bring it up to me when you're done so I can check your answers."

You look back down at the paper - you've got some time to kill, why not give it a shot?

The familiar bell on the door rings as you enter The Polar Espresso for the second time,
the shop seems much emptier then yesterday, but no less inviting.
Neither barista seems to be behind the counter at the moment,
so you decide to have a quick look around.

"Hmm...Interesing choice, " A familiar voice startles you,
almost causing you to drop the book you'd picked off the shelf. Suni stands over your shoulder
and they toss you a wink before turning back to distribute the drinks on their tray.

Once you're ready to order you make your way up to the counter where Suni is
using a marker to draw eyebrows on the polar bear logo of one of the takeout cups,
they take your order with a smile and pass your drink over the counter
a few moments later.
"Mirjam wont let me near the trivia questions after last time,
but how about you answer something for me and i'll give you something on the house?"
Suni starts, they pause and tap their chin, wondering how to phrase the next part of their question.

"I certainly agree," she added. "I've experienced this myself. When I was younger, I always tried to make friends with everyone. And somehow, I did. ' It's funny, wearing a face. 'You should smile more,' and, 'are you feeling alright?' and 'do you feel ill?' are common questions I get, haha. I've certainly got 'resting tired face' myself, as you can probably see. I know I work the graveyard shift and all, but I always seem to look tired no matter how much rest I get.

And I do try to smile more, I know... but it's hard, some days. Not that I'm sad or anything, but just that it feels so... so disingenuous. To smile just because someone asks it of you, that's not a real smile. A real smile is when you overhear your coworker mutter something silly to themself and you can't help but smile a bit, even though you know it's wrong to eavesdrop. A smile is when your friends asks you something dumb, like 'what would you do if i got crushed by a boulder this very second?' and you have no idea how to answer because it's just so silly, but despite it you love them for living by the seat-of-their-pants that way. That's a real smile, even if the real you doesn't seem to smile all that much in the first place.

But even though it's true, you start to question it. Am I a downer? Do I make other people sad just by being myself? Do I need to change for others? ...No, none of it's like that. The you ya see in the mirror is not the same you that anyone else sees in passing, or in coversation, ya know? Only you know what feels right. And yea, we can't help but alter ourselves in the presence of others, whether it be for admiration or respect or trying to fit in or whatnot but... at the end of the day, you're not gonna be comfortable like that. You put on a show, a performance for other people, but even at the end of a play the actors need to take a break and return to themselves.

Ya know, just... do what makes you happy, haha. Truly happy, I mean. Being 'cool' is outdated anyway. Uh... keep the change. '

"Oh, so like you?" Adrienne responded genuinely, staring at her significant other. Solia's face flushed, and an immediate frown came upon it.

"No--Well...yeah, I guess in a way like how I used to be." Solia's frown turned into a face of sadness at the thought of that.

"It's alright! You're not like that anymore! At least I sure hope not," Adrienne giggled, putting her arm around Solia's shoulder. "Things would be preeettty awkward if that were still the case."

Solia nodded her head in agreement. Adrienne always knew how to cheer her up regardless of what it was.
"Anyways," she replied. "Yeah, it means that you can't hold your façade forever or you'll eventually get confused as to which one is you and which one is the façade. It's like a saying."

"Oh," Adrienne nodded. "I guess that makes sense. I still have no clue but I'm just gonna go with whatever you say!" Solia chuckled, then the two walked up to the counter to order their drinks.
